A pin on disc machine was used to investigate the tribological behavior of a diffusion bonded sintered steel, with and without surface treatments of steam oxidation and manganese phosphating, over a wide range of speed (0.2–4 m/s) and applied load (4–500 N) in conditions of dry sliding and starved lubrication by oil impregnation of the porous structure of the materials. Besides the calculated wear rates, the wear mechanisms were determined by examination of the components of the rubbing system (sintered pin, disc and generated debris). A transition from a mild to a severe wear regime was identified, denoted by sharp changes of the wear rate. A transient wear regime, interposed between the mild and severe wear regimes, was detected. The rubbing surface quality degradation was in terms of material displacement around the pin circumference due to a delamination wear mechanism. Such regime was detected for the base sintered steel in dry sliding at 1 m/s for the load range 60–80 N and for both surface treatments in oil impregnated sliding at 0.5 m/s for the load range 200–300 N. Oil impregnation of the base sintered steel expanded the mild wear regime towards higher loads throughout the whole sliding speed range compared to dry sliding. For the lower speeds of 0.2 and 0.5 m/s, manganese phosphated samples in dry sliding exhibited higher transition loads compared to the base sintered steel. The lower oil impregnability of the surface treated samples, due to the sealing of porosity by steam oxidation, led to slightly lower transition loads in oil impregnated sliding, compared to the base sintered steel.  相似文献

Evolution of friction and wear of 42CrAlMo7 steels with different nitriding processes was investigated during boundary-lubricated rolling–sliding tests. The wear behaviour of nitrided steel with a thin compound layer (produced by plasma nitriding and by gas nitriding followed by oxidation) was characterised by the early removal of the compound layer, and the wear resistance was thus, given by the underlying diffusion layer. In the case of the material with a thick compound layer (produced by gas nitriding) wear was restricted to the compound layer. In this material, at low applied load (300 N, i.e. 485 MPa of Hertzian pressure, in this work), after the removal of the external porous layer wear tended to be negligible. At high applied load (1000 N, 890 MPa), on the other hand, the wear rate became higher than that of the diffusion layer. The friction behaviour was followed by determining the λ-factor evolution during each test. For a given λ-factor, the friction coefficients at 300 N were lower than at 1000 N.  相似文献

H11 steel discs were tested by considering sliding/rolling friction under dry and lubricated conditions. The H11 discs were plasma nitrided at 500 °C and 550 °C for 9 h. Wear tests were conducted at different slip ratios of 1.79%, 10.53% and 22.22%. The test loads were 100 N, 150 N and 200 N. It was determined that plasma-nitrided H11 discs had a surface hardness of 1200–1400 HV0.1. Plasma nitriding produced wear performance much higher than those of the un-nitrided but hardened samples. The wear mechanism of the plasma-nitrided discs was a mixture of adhesive wear, abrasive wear and plastic yielding.  相似文献

Hardmetal coatings prepared by high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying represent an advanced solution for surface protection against wear. In the current systematic study the high-temperature oxidation and unidirectional sliding wear in dry and lubricated conditions were studied. Results for a series of experiments on self-mated pairs in dry conditions as part of that work are described in this paper. Coatings with nominal compositions WC-10%Co4%Cr, WC-(W,Cr)2C-7%Ni, Cr3C2-25%NiCr, (Ti,Mo)(C,N)-29%Ni and (Ti,Mo)(C,N)-29%Co were prepared with an ethylene-fuelled DJH 2700 HVOF spray gun. Electrolytic hard chromium (EHC) coatings and bulk (Ti,Mo)(C,N)-15%NiMo (TM10) hardmetal specimens were studied for comparison. The wear behaviour was investigated at room temperature, 400 and 600 °C. For the coatings sliding speeds were varied in the range 0.1–1 m/s for a wear distance of 5000 m and a normal force of 10 N. In some cases the WC- and (Ti,Mo)(C,N)-based coatings showed total wear rates (sum of wear rates of the rotating and stationary samples) of less than 10?6 mm3/Nm, i.e., comparable to values typically measured under mixed/boundary conditions. Coefficients of friction above 0.4 were found for all test conditions. The P × V values as an engineering parameter for coating application are discussed. The microstructures and the sliding wear behaviour of the (Ti,Mo)(C,N)-based coatings and the (Ti,Mo)(C,N)-15%NiMo hardmetal are compared.  相似文献

Plasma nitriding was performed on Ti–6Al–4V samples at 520 °C in two environments (pure nitrogen and a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen in the ratio of 3:1) for two different time periods (4 and 18 h). Fretting wear tests were conducted on unnitrided and nitrided samples for 50,000 cycles using alumina ball counterbody. Plasma nitriding reduced the tangential force coefficient of Ti–6Al–4V. The samples nitrided for 4 h exhibited higher hardness and lower tangential force coefficient compared to the specimens nitrided for 18 h. The samples nitrided in nitrogen–hydrogen mixture environment exhibited higher hardness and lower tangential force coefficient compared to the specimens nitrided in pure nitrogen. The samples plasma nitrided in nitrogen–hydrogen mixture for 4 h exhibited the highest hardness and the lowest tangential force coefficient. The wear volume and specific wear rate of the plasma nitrided samples were lower than those of the unnitrided samples. A consistent trend was not observed regarding which nitriding condition would result in lower wear volume and specific wear rate at different loads.  相似文献

In the present work, we report the processing and properties of WC–6 wt.% ZrO2 composites, densified using the pressureless sintering route. The densification of the WC–ZrO2 composites was carried out in the temperature range of 1500–1700 °C with varying time (1–3 h) in vacuum. The experimental results indicate that significantly high hardness of 22–23 GPa and moderate fracture toughness of ∼5 MPa m1/2 can be obtained with 2 mol% Y-stabilized ZrO2 sinter-additive, sintered at 1600 °C for 3 h. Furthermore, the friction and wear behavior of optimized WC–ZrO2 composite is investigated on a fretting mode I wear tester. The tribological results reveal that a moderate coefficient of friction in the range from 0.15 to 0.5 can be achieved with the optimised composite. An important observation is that a transition in friction and wear with load is noted. The dominant mechanisms of material removal appear to be tribochemical wear and spalling of tribolayer.  相似文献

In this research, the wear of electroless Ni–P and Ni–P–B4C composite coatings was reviewed. Auto catalytic reduction of Ni in nickel sulfate and sodium hypophosphate bath including suspended B4C particles with different concentration was used to create composite coatings with 12, 18, 25 and 33 vol.% of B4C particles. Coatings 35 μm thick were heat treated at 400 °C for one hour in an argon atmosphere and the wear resistance and friction coefficient of heat-treated samples were determined by block-on-ring tests. All wear tests were carried out at 24 °C, 35% moisture, 0.164 m/s sliding speed and about 1000 m sliding distance. Graphs show that an electroless Ni–P–B4C composite coating with 25 vol.% of B4C had the best wear resistance against a CK45 steel counterface.  相似文献

Resistance to wear is an important factor in design and selection of structural components in relative motion against a mating surface. The present work deals with studies on fretting wear behavior of in situ nano-Al3Ti reinforced Al–Ti–Si amorphous/nanocrystalline matrix composite, processed by high pressure (8 GPa) sintering at room temperature, 350, 400 or 450 °C. The wear experiments were carried out in gross slip fretting regime to investigate the performance of this composite against Al2O3 at ambient temperature (22–25 °C) and humidity (50–55%). The highest resistance to fretting wear has been observed in the composites sintered at 400 °C. The fretting wear involves oxidation of Al3Ti particles in the composite. A continuous, smooth and protective tribolayer is formed on the worn surface of the composite sintered at 400 °C, while fragmentation and spallation leads to a rougher surface and greater wear in the composite sintered at 450 °C.  相似文献

The variation in wear behaviour during limited debris retention sliding wear of Nimonic 80A versus Stellite 6 (counterface) between room temperature and 750 °C, at sliding speeds of 0.314, 0.654 and 0.905 m s−1, was investigated. At 0.314 m s−1, mild oxidational wear was observed at all temperatures, due to transfer and oxidation of Stellite 6-sourced debris to the Nimonic 80A and resultant separation of the Nimonic 80A and Stellite 6 wear surfaces. Between room temperature and 450 °C, this debris mostly remained in the form of loose particles (with only limited compaction), whilst between 510 and 750 °C, the particles were compacted and sintered together to form a wear protective ‘glaze’ layer.At 0.654 and 0.905 m s−1, mild oxidational wear due to transfer and oxidation of Stellite 6-sourced debris was only observed at room temperature and 270 °C (also 390 °C at 0.654 m s−1). At 390 °C (450 °C at 0.654 m s−1) and above, this oxide was completely absent and ‘metal-to-metal’ contact resulted in an intermediate temperature severe wear regime—losses in the form of ejected metallic debris were sourced almost completely from the Nimonic 80A. Oxide debris, this time sourced from the Nimonic 80A sample, did not reappear until 570 °C (630 °C at 0.654 m s−1), however, were insufficient to eliminate completely severe wear until 690 and 750 °C. At both 0.654 and 0.905 m s−1, the oxide now preventing severe wear at 690 and 750 °C tended not to form ‘glaze’ layers on the surface of the Nimonic 80A and instead supported continued high wear by abrasion. This abrasive action was attributed to the poor sintering characteristics of the Nimonic 80A-sourced oxide, in combination with the oxides’ increased mobility and decreased residency.The collected data were used to compose a simple wear map detailing the effects of sliding speed and temperature on the wear of Nimonic 80A slid against Stellite 6, at these speeds and temperatures of between room temperature and 750 °C.  相似文献

This article follows a previous study on friction and wear of 25CrMo4 steel [N. Khanafi-Benghalem, K. Loucif, E. Felder, F. Delamare, Influence de la température sur les mécanismes de frottement et d’usure des aciers X12NiCrMoSi25-20 et 25CrMo4 glissant sur du carbure de tungstène, Matériaux et techniques 93 (2005) 347–362]. The aim of our work is to study in more details the process of plastic deformation and the wear rate of this steel in lubricated sliding against cemented tungsten carbide, process observed in the previous work. The considered parameters are the temperature T (from 20 to 200 °C), the normal force P (from 500 to 1500 N), the steel structure (normalised HV 220 and quenched/tempered HV 480 states) and the sliding velocity v (from 0.05 to 0.3 m/s). We measured the friction coefficient and the sample total volume loss. A displacement sensor follows the volume loss evolution during the test; this follow-up is approximate because of the sample plastic flow which leads to the formation of peripheral burrs. All the tests conditions generate a significant plastic deformation of the sample steel, even in the quenched/tempered state: it produces a marked increase of the surface hardness, the work hardened layer being much finer for the quenched/tempered state (15 μm) than for the normalised state (40 μm at 20 °C). For temperatures T  100 °C in normalised state, the wear follows the Archard's law with an increasing rate with temperature. For T  120 °C, the wear rate decreases during the test, the global volume of wear being a decreasing function of T. For the quenched/tempered state, the wear rate decreases with the increase of the normal force, this decrease is less than 30% of the normalised state value. The material heating during the wear tests is well correlated with the friction dissipated power, but remains small, except in extreme cases (v maximum, great friction at high temperatures). These results suggest the existence of two wear mechanisms: abrasion by sample debris and burrs emission by plastic flow. The abrasion is probably the dominating mechanism for the tests carried out at the lowest temperatures. The plastic flow becomes a significant component at the highest temperatures. Using a contact model, we discuss to what extent the influence of the temperature and the strain rate on the steel hardness and ductility could explain the temperature and the sliding velocity effect on wear. Other phenomena are probably present: the influence of the steel microstructure and the lubricant on the size and/or the number of particles responsible for abrasion.  相似文献

The effect of Al2O3 content on the mechanical and tribological properties of Ni–Cr alloy was investigated from room temperature to 1000 °C. The results indicated that NiCr–40 wt% Al2O3 composite exhibited good wear resistance and its compressive strength remained 540 MPa even at 1000 °C. The values obtained for flexural strength and fracture toughness at room temperature were 771 MPa, 15.2 MPa m1/2, respectively. Between 800 °C and 1000 °C, the adhesive and plastic oxide layer on the worn surface of the composite was claimed to be responsible for low friction coefficient and wear rate.  相似文献

In this paper, wear characteristics of magnesium alloy, AZ31B, and its nano-composites, AZ31B/nano-Al2O3, processed by the disintegrated melt deposition technique are investigated. The experiments were carried out using a pin-on-disk configuration against a steel disk counterface under different sliding speeds of 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 m/s for 10 N normal load, and 1, 3 and 5 m/s for 30 N normal load. The worn samples and wear debris were then examined under a field emission scanning electron microscopy equipped with an energy dispersive spectrometer to reveal its wear features. The wear test results show that the wear rates of the composites are gradually reduced over the sliding speed range for both normal loads. The composite wear rates are higher than that of the alloy at low speeds and lower when sliding speed further increased. The coefficient of friction results of both the alloy and composites are in the range of 0.25–0.45 and reaches minimums at 5 m/s under 10 N and 3 m/s under 30 N load. Microstructural characterization results established different dominant mechanisms at different sliding speeds, namely, abrasion, delamination, oxidation, adhesion and thermal softening and melting. Wear behavior of the HVOF deposited Cr3C2–NiCr and WC–Co coatings on Fe-base steels were evaluated by the pin-on-disc mechanism. The constant normal load applied to the pin was 49 N and sliding distance was 4500 m with velocity of 1 m/s, at ambient temperature and humidity. The specific wear rate of WC–Co coating was 3 mm3/N m and Cr3C2–NiCr coating was 5.3 mm3/N m. SEM/EDAX and XRD techniques were used to analyze the worn out surface and wear debris. The Fe2O3 was identified as the major phase in the wear debris. The wear mechanism is mild adhesive wear in nature.  相似文献

Fine-grained TiB2 compacts have been hot pressed to 98–99% theoretical density at 1400 °C. The compacts were consolidated from sub-micron powders prepared by a high-energy ball milling technique. Titanium diboride (TiB2) powders were obtained from the milling of commercially synthesized TiB2 and also from the mechanical alloying (MA) of Ti and B precursors. The formation of TiB2 from Ti and B powders by mechanical alloying was found to reach completion after 3 h, and wear debris from steel mill vials and media introduced 0.8 to 1.5 wt% Fe in the sintered compacts. The dry erosion resistance of the highest density compacts was examined using an ASTM standard test with an abrasive jet of Al2O3 impinging at a normal angle of incidence. Steady-state erosion rates of 0.5 mm3/kg of erodent compare favorably with the measured value of 9 mm3/kg for commercial, fine-grained WC–Co cermets under identical conditions. Microstructures, fracture surfaces, and erosion craters were also examined by electron microscopy.  相似文献

Dry sliding tests were performed for 45, 4Cr5MoSiV1 steels and 3Cr3Mo2V cast steel at 200 and 400 °C. The wears at 200 and 400 °C are of oxidative wear characteristic due to tribo-oxides formed on worn surfaces. However, the wear at 200 °C presents different wear behaviors and characteristics from the one at 400 °C. The wear at 200 °C is a typical oxidative mild wear, but the wear at 400 °C is beyond oxidative mild wear, here called oxidative wear. The characteristics of oxidative mild wear and oxidative wear were clarified.  相似文献

The production of Ni3Al was performed under an uniaxial pressure of 150 MPa at 1050 °C for 1 h. The formation temperature of Ni3Al was determined to be 655 °C. The presence of Ni3Al was confirmed by XRD analysis. SEM analysis revealed that the Ni3Al phase has very low porosity. The relative density and microhardness of test materials were 97.8% and about 359±31 HV1.0, respectively. The specific wear rate of Ni3Al was 0.029 mm3/N m for 2 N, 0.017 mm3/N m for 5 N and 0.011 mm3/N m for 10 N, respectively. The distribution of alloying elements was determined by energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS).  相似文献

Past studies with PTFE nanocomposites showed up to 600× improvements in wear resistance over unfilled PTFE with the addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles. Irregular shaped nanoparticles are used in this study to increase the mechanical entanglement of PTFE fibrils with the filler. The tribological properties of 1, 2, 5 and 10 wt.% filled samples are evaluated under a normal pressure and sliding speed of 6.3 MPa and 50.8 mm/s, respectively. The wear resistance was found to improve 3000× over unfilled PTFE with the addition of 1 wt.% nanoparticles. The 5 wt.% sample had the lowest steady state wear rate of K = 1.3 × 10−7 mm3/N m and the lowest steady friction coefficient with μ = 0.21.  相似文献

In the present work, industrial-scale DC-pulsed plasma nitriding for 20 h at 673 K was used to improve the wear resistance of an AISI 410 martensitic stainless steel. The tribological behaviour was studied and compared to the behaviour of the same steel in as-received condition.Pin-on-disc dry tests, using an alumina ball as counter-body, were carried out to determine the evolution of the friction coefficient. The wear resistance was investigated using an Amsler-disc-machine, employing a dry combined contact of rolling–sliding with three different applied loads. The wear mechanisms involved during rolling–sliding of unnitrided and plasma nitrided steels were investigated by microscopic observation of the surfaces, the corresponding cross-sections and the produced wear debris.The combination of different wear mechanisms taking place in the wear process of unnitrided and nitrided materials were discussed and analyzed. In contrast to the unnitrided steel, DC-pulsed plasma nitrided samples presented an improvement in the friction coefficient and the wear rate.  相似文献

Titanium-containing diamond-like carbon (Ti-DLC) coatings were deposited on steel with a close-field unbalanced magnetron sputtering in a mixed argon/acetylene atmosphere. The morphology and structure of Ti-DLC coatings were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Nanoindentation, nanoscratch and unlubricated wear tests were carried out to evaluate the hardness, adhesive and tribological properties of Ti-DLC coatings. Electron microscopic observations demonstrated the presence of titanium-rich nanoscale regions surrounded by amorphous carbon structures in Ti-DLC coating. The Ti-DLC coatings exhibit friction coefficients of 0.12–0.25 and wear rates of 1.82 × 10?9 to 4.29 × 10?8 mm3/Nm, depending on the counterfaces, sliding speed and temperature. The Ti-DLC/alumina tribo-pair shows a lower friction coefficient than the Ti-DLC/steel tribo-pair under the identical wear conditions. Increasing the test temperature from room temperature to 200 °C reduces the coefficient of friction and, however, clearly increases the wear rate of Ti-DLC coatings. Different wear mechanisms, such as surface polishing, delamination and tribo-chemical reactions, were found in the tribo-contact areas, depending on different wear conditions.  相似文献

The non-lubricated, sliding friction and wear behavior of Ti3Si(Al)C2 and SiC-reinforced Ti3Si(Al)C2 composites against AISI 52100 bearing steel ball were investigated using a ball-on-flat, reciprocating tribometer at room temperature. The contact load was varied from 5 to 20 N. For monolithic Ti3Si(Al)C2, high friction coefficients between 0.61 and 0.90 and wear rates between 1.79 × 10−3 and 2.68 × 10−3 mm3 (N m)−1 were measured. With increasing SiC content in the composites, both the friction coefficients and the wear rates were significantly decreased. The friction coefficients reduced to a value between 0.38 and 0.50, and the wear rates to between 2.64 × 10−4 and 1.93 × 10−5 mm3 (N m)−1 when the SiC content ranged from 10 to 30 vol.%. The enhanced wear resistance of Ti3Si(Al)C2 is mainly attributed to the facts that the hard SiC particles inhibit the plastic deformation and fracture of the soft matrix, the oxide debris lubricate the counterpair, and the wear mode converts from adhesive wear to abrasive wear during dry sliding.  相似文献
