Critical automotive applications using heat-treatable alloys are designed for high impact toughness which can be improved using a specified heat treatment. The alloy toughness and fracture behavior are influenced by the alloy composition and the solidification conditions applied. The mechanical properties of alloys containing Cu and Mg can also be enhanced through heat treatment. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of Mg content, aging and cooling rate on the impact toughness and fractography of both non-modified and Sr-modified Al–Si–Cu–Mg base alloys. Castings were prepared from both experimental and industrial 319 alloy melts containing 0–0.6wt% Mg. Test bars were cast in two different cooling rate molds, a star-like permanent mold and an L-shaped permanent mold, with dendrite arm spacing (DAS) values of 24 and 50 μm, respectively. Test bars were aged at 180 °C and 220 °C for 2–48 h. Charpy Impact test was used to provide the impact energy. It was observed that high cooling rates improve the impact toughness whereas the presence of Cu significantly lowers the impact properties which are determined mainly by the Al2Cu phase and not by the eutectic Si particles. The addition of Mg and Sr were also seen to decrease the impact toughness. The crack initiation energy in these alloys is greater than the crack propagation energy, reflecting the high ductility of Al–Si–Cu–Mg base alloys.  相似文献

In this study, the tensile properties, high cycle fatigue behavior and plane-strain fracture toughness of the sand-cast Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr magnesium alloy were investigated, comparison to that of sand-cast plus T6 heat treated magnesium alloy which named after sand-cast-T6. The results showed that the tensile properties of the sand-cast alloy are greatly improved after T6 heat treatment, and the fatigue strength (at 107 cycles) of the sand-cast Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr magnesium alloy increases from 95 to 120 MPa after T6 heat treatment, i.e. the improvement of 26% in fatigue strength has been achieved. The plane-strain fracture toughnesses KIC of the sand-cast and sand-cast-T6 alloys are about 12.1 and 16.3 MPa m1/2, respectively. In addition, crack initiation, crack propagation and fracture behavior of the studied alloys after tensile test, high cycle fatigue test and plane-strain fracture toughness test were also investigated systematically.  相似文献

The impact toughness of M951 alloy is investigated in temperature range between 20 °C and 800 °C. The results show that the impact toughness of samples impacted at 600 °C shows highest impact toughness value, the impact toughness value drops sharply when the samples impacted at 760 °C. In addition samples impacted at 800 °C show the higher impact toughness than that of samples impact at 760 °C. The scanning electron microscope observations show that cracks initiate at carbides particles due to high stress concentration, which leads to low impact toughness value at 20 °C. The dimples which can absorb more energy are formed during the impact at 600 °C. The samples impacted at 760 °C show lowest impact toughness. Additionally, the dimples nucleation, growth and coalescence are the major fracture mechanism at elevated temperature.  相似文献

The plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of aluminum and magnesium alloys is carried out in electrolytes which contain the same reactants, but in fundamentally different concentrations. In this research the possibility of the PEO of aluminum and magnesium alloys in a universal electrolyte is studied. The two most commonly encountered alloys, namely, aluminum alloy 5052 and magnesium alloy AZ91D, are chosen. The oxide layers obtained are studied using SEM, EDX, XRD, and a microhardness tester. The corrosion properties are determined using a potentiostat. The effect of variation of the silicate concentration in the electrolyte on the growth kinetics of the coating and its qualitative characteristics is discussed. It is shown that at Na2SiO3·5H2O concentrations in the electrolyte ranging from 3.2 to 32 g l 1, the rate of growth of the oxide layer increases from 15 to 55 μm h 1 with significant variation of the phase composition of the coating. The greatest hardness of an oxide ceramic layer was obtained in the outer sublayer on the magnesium alloys (874.7 HV10) and in the inner sublayer on the aluminum alloys (1123 HV10). The most favorable combination of physical and chemical properties for both alloys is obtained in an electrolyte containing 12.72 g l 1 Na2SiO3·5H2O.  相似文献

A new family of resource-saving, low Cr and low Ni duplex stainless steels, with compositions of 15Cr–xAl–2Ni–yMn (x = 1.2–2.8, y = 8–12, wt.%) has been developed by examining the effect of Al and Mn on microstructure, mechanical property and corrosion property. The results show that 15Cr–1.2Al–2.0Ni–8Mn and 15Cr–2.0Al–2.0Ni–10Mn alloys have a balanced ferrite–austenite relation and that 15Cr–2.8Al–2.0Ni–12Mn alloy has a primary ferrite phase structure. The ferrite volume fraction increases with the solution treatment temperature and Al content while decreases with Mn content. No precipitate was found after solution-treated at 750 °C for 30 min. 15Cr–1.2Al–2.0Ni–8Mn alloy has a strong strain hardening effect, and 15Cr–2.0Al–2.0Ni–10Mn alloy has a good TRIP effect. Both of the 15Cr–1.2Al–2.0Ni–8Mn and 15Cr–2.0Al–2.0Ni–10Mn alloys have excellent impact toughness at low temperature with the impact energy higher than 125 J at −40 °C. The pitting corrosions always occur in austenite phase. Among the designed alloys, 15Cr–1.2Al–2.0Ni–8Mn and 15Cr–2.0Al–2.0Ni–10Mn are found to be excellent alloys with a proper phase proportion and a better combination of superior mechanical property and good pitting corrosion resistance.  相似文献

NbCr2 Laves phase alloyed with 0–7 wt.% Si was fabricated by mechanical alloying followed by hot pressing. The influence of silicon on the mechanical properties and oxidation behavior of NbCr2 were investigated. It was revealed that Si addition has a beneficial effect on the oxidation resistance and fracture toughness of NbCr2 alloy. The addition of Si partially occupies the Cr site in the Laves phase and partially forms the hard Nb5Si3 phase, which can yield an increase in the hardness of as-HPed NbCr2 alloys. When alloying with 5 wt.% silicon, the fracture toughness value of NbCr2 reaches the highest (6.45 MPa √m) which is about 13% more than that of unalloyed NbCr2 and is 4 times higher than that of cast materials (1.2 MPa √m). Addition of silicon also resulted in a substantial improvement in the oxidation resistance of the NbCr2 alloys exposed in air at 1373 K and 1473 K.  相似文献

Entangled steel wire (Q195F) with total porosity of 36.3 ± 1.3 to 61.8 ± 2.4% and pore sizes of 15–825 µm have been investigated in terms of the porous morphologies, impact deformation and failure behavior. The results reveal that the impact toughness increases with the decrease of the porosity. The sintered entangled steel wire materials with 61.8 ± 2.4% porosity exhibit an average of 11.8 J/cm2 impact toughness. With 36.3 ± 1.3% porosity, the sintered materials have an average of 45.5 J/cm2 impact toughness. Impact absorbing energy and impact toughness have been obtained by Charpy impact testing. Essential impact deformation and failure mechanisms such as pore edges (i.e. fibers) bending, bulking, rotating, yielding, densification and fracture, as well as break (or avulsion) of sintering points in the steel wire framework contribute to the excellent energy-absorbing characteristics under impact loading condition.  相似文献

The effects of antimony content on damping capacity of as cast Mg–8Zn–4A1–0.3Mn magnesium alloy were investigated by using optical microscopy and dynamic mechanical analyzer, etc. The results indicated that the damping capacity of Mg–8Zn–4A1–0.3Mn magnesium alloy was reduced at the low temperatures (<80 °C) after adding antimony, but its damping capacity was improved at the higher temperatures (>80 °C). There exists a damping peak in both modified and unmodified alloys with different temperature, adding antimony postpones the emergence temperature of damping peak. The damping capacities of the modified alloys were decreased gradually with the increase of antimony content. In the present work, the best damping capacity was obtained from the modified alloy containing 0.1 wt.% antimony at the high temperatures.  相似文献

Studies of an industrial low-carbon steel (B450NbRE) suggest that the impact toughness is unexpectedly low under its practical service, probably resulting from the unstable recovery of rare earths (RE) in steelmaking. The purpose of this work is to investigate the effect of RE on the impact toughness in low-carbon steel. The B450NbRE steels with content of 0.0012–0.0180 wt.% RE were produced by vacuum induction furnace. The impact toughness and microstructure were investigated after hot rolled. The Gleeble-1500 thermal simulator was used to validate the effect of RE on the microstructure. The results indicate that the microstructure of hot-rolled steels is characterized by polygonal ferrite, quasi-polygonal ferrite, bainite and pearlite. The impact toughness increases with RE contents reaching the peak with content of 0.0047 wt.% RE, such a change exhibits the same rule as the case of the ferrite amount. However, this improvement in impact toughness is not only due to an increase in ferrite amount, but also the fine grained structure and the cleaner grain boundaries. And content of 0.0180 wt.% RE is excessive. Such an addition of the RE resulted in the martensite precipitates at the grain boundaries, which are extremely detrimental to impact toughness.  相似文献

Zirconium alloys show attractive properties for astronautic applications where the most important factors are anti-irradiation, corrosion resistance, anti-oxidant, very good strength-to-weight ratio. The effects of Al content (2.2–6.9 wt%) on structure and mechanical properties of the hot-rolled ZrTiAlV alloy samples were investigated in this study. Each sample of the hot-rolled ZrTiAlV alloys with Al contents from 2.2 wt% to 5.6 wt% is composed of the α phase and β phase, meanwhile, the relative content of the α phase increased with the Al content. However, the (ZrTi)3Al intermetallic compound was observed as the Al content increased to 6.9 wt%. Changes of phase compositions and structure with Al content distinctly affected mechanical properties of ZrTiAlV alloys. Yield strength of the alloy with 2.2 wt% Al is below 200 MPa. As Al content increased to 5.6 wt%, the yield strength, tensile strength and elongation of the examined alloy are 1088 MPa, 1256 MPa and 8%, respectively. As Al content further increased to 6.9 wt%, a rapid decrease in ductility was observed as soon as the (ZrTi)3Al intermetallic compound precipitated. Results show that the ZrTiAlV alloys with Al contents between 3.3 wt% and 5.6 wt% have excellent mechanical properties.  相似文献

Nb–Si–Al–Ti quaternary phase diagram around three-phase region, which consists of niobium solid solution (Nbss), Nb3Al and Nb5Si3, is constructed in this study. The three-phase region exists up to titanium content of about 20 mol%. Based on the quaternary phase diagram, three-phase alloys containing Nbss from about 50 to 75% in volume are prepared to improve high temperature strength, room temperature fracture toughness and oxidation resistance simultaneously. When microstructure and composition are optimized (Nbss+Nb3Al+Nb5Si3) three-phase alloy with the addition of titanium exhibits higher compressive strength than nickel-based superalloys at room temperature to 1573 K. Fracture toughness at room temperature of (Nbss+Nb3Al+Nb5Si3) three-phase alloys is increased to over 12 MPa m1/2 by the addition of titanium without sacrificing high temperature strength. Oxidation resistance of (Nbss+Nb3Al+Nb5Si3) three-phase alloys is improved by the addition of titanium.  相似文献

To improve the wear performance of SiC coating for C/C composites at elevated temperatures, the grain was refined by adding small amounts of titanium, in the raw powders for preparing this coating. The related microstructure and mechanical characteristics were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy and nano-indention. The results show that the grain size of SiC coating decreased from ∼30 μm to ∼5 μm due to the addition of grain refiner. TiC formed by reacting titanium with graphite, can act as perfect heterogeneous nucleus for the nucleation and growth of β-SiC. The wear resistance and fracture toughness of SiC coating was improved by grain refinement. However, the increasing interfaces increased the friction resistance and resulted in the high friction coefficient of fine-grained coating at room temperature. As the temperature rose, oxides layer formed on the surface of fine-grained coating, which can reduce the adhesive wear and decrease the friction coefficient. The fine-grained coating exhibited relative low friction coefficient of ∼0.41 owing to a compact silica film formed on the worn surface at 600 °C, and the wear was dominated by plastic deformation and shear of silica film. The wear of coarse-grained coating was controlled by the fracture of SiC at high temperature.  相似文献

The microstructure and solidification behavior of Cu–Ni–Si alloys with four different Cu contents was studied systematically under near-equilibrium solidification conditions. The microstructures of these Cu–Ni–Si alloys were characterized by SEM and the phase composition was identified by XRD analysis. The phase transition during the solidification process was studied by DTA under an Ar atmosphere. The results show that the microstructure and solidification behavior is closely related to the composition of Cu–Ni–Si alloys. The microstructure of Cu–Ni–Si alloys with higher than 40% Cu content consists of primary phase α-Cu(Ni, Si) and eutectic phase (β1-Ni3Si + α-Cu(Ni,Si).When the Cu content is about 40%, only the eutectic phase (β1-Ni3Si + α-Cu(Ni,Si)) is present. DTA analysis shows there are three phase transitions during every cooling cycle of alloys with higher than 40% Cu content, but only one for 40% Cu content. Cu–Ni–Si alloy with 40% Cu solidifies by a eutectic reaction, but Cu–Ni–Si alloys with higher than 40% Cu content solidify as a hypoeutectic reaction.  相似文献

Fiber-Reinforced Aerated Concrete (FRAC) is a novel lightweight aerated concrete that includes internal reinforcement with short polymeric fibers. The autoclaving process is eliminated from the production of FRAC and curing is performed at room temperature. Several instrumented experiments were performed to characterize FRAC blocks for their physical and mechanical properties. This work includes the study of pore-structure at micro-scale and macro-scale; the variations of density and compressive strength within a block; compressive, flexural and tensile properties; impact resistance; and thermal conductivity. Furthermore, the effect of fiber content on the mechanical characteristics of FRAC was studied at three volume fractions and compared to plain Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC). The instrumented experimental results for the highest fiber content FRAC indicated compressive strength of approximately 3 MPa, flexural strength of 0.56 MPa, flexural toughness of more than 25 N m, and thermal conductivity of 0.15 W/K m.  相似文献

In this study, Sn-free Zr–1.5Nb–O–P alloys were manufactured and their mechanical properties were characterized. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of cold rolled Zr–1.5Nb–O–P alloy with 160 ppm phosphorous (680 MPa) were close to that of a commercially available Zr–1Nb–1Sn–0.1Fe alloy (720 MPa), achieving a good mechanical strength without the addition of Sn, an effective solution strengthening element. The UTS of recrystallized Zr–1.5Nb–O–P alloy with 160 ppm phosphorous (533 MPa) was far greater than that of a commercially available Zr–1Nb–O (323 MPa) because of the strengthening due to higher Nb and oxygen content combined with phosphorous strengthening. The activation volumes for the cold rolled Zr–1.5Nb–P alloys were not much different from those of annealed Zr–1.5Nb–P alloys despite the higher dislocation density in the cold rolled alloys. Insensitivity of the activation volume to the dislocation density and the decrease of the activation volume with the addition of phosphorous support the suggestion linking the activation volume with the activated bulge of dislocations limited by segregation of oxygen and phosphorous atoms.  相似文献

The stamping behavior of 6061 aluminum alloy with various conditions of early-aging is investigated in the present study. The relationship between the stamping performance, microstructure and mechanical property for this alloy is also discussed. Experimental results show that the 6061 aluminum alloy with a 10–30 min. early-aging at 160 °C will exhibit excellent stamping performance. The burnished surface of these treated alloys can reach a quite high value of 47%. Meanwhile, the mechanical strength and impact toughness have important effects on the stamping behavior of 6061 aluminum alloy. The moderate values of mechanical strength and toughness will exhibit an optimal stamping performance.  相似文献

Epoxy resins are important matrices for composites. Carboxylic nitrile-butadiene nano-rubber (NR) particles are employed to improve the tensile strength and fracture toughness at 77 K of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-F epoxy using diethyl toluene diamine as curing agent. It is shown that the cryogenic tensile strength and fracture toughness are simultaneously enhanced by the addition of NR. Also, the fracture toughness at room temperature (RT) is enhanced by the addition of NR. On the other hand, the tensile strength at RT first increases and then decreases with further increasing the NR content up to 5 phr. 5 phr NR is the proper content, which corresponds to the simultaneous enhancements in the tensile strength and fracture toughness at RT. Moreover, the comparison of mechanical properties between 77 K and room temperature indicates that the tensile strength, Young’s modulus and fracture toughness at 77 K are higher than those at RT but the failure strain shows the opposite results. The results are properly explained by the SEM observation.  相似文献

In order to fabricate continuous carbon fiber-reinforced aluminum alloy matrix composites, various infiltration methods such as gas pressure infiltration, CVD-infiltration, and ultrasonic infiltration methods have been developed. Among these methods, the ultrasonic infiltration method is the simplest. In this study, the effects of ultrasonic power, the diameter of the hole of the horn, fabricating speed, and magnesium content on the ease of infiltration are investigated. As the results, both an ultrasonic power of 200 W and the addition of more than 2.4 mass% Mg are indispensable to infiltrate molten aluminum alloy into a PAN-based M40J carbon fiber bundle, which has 6000 filaments. Contrariwise, the tensile strength and relative strength (ROM ratio) of the obtained composites decreased from 1100 MPa (0.7) at both 2.4 and 4.7 mass% Mg contents to 800 MPa (0.5) at 10 mass% Mg content. This was probably caused by an increase in the content of the Al3Mg2 intermetallic compound. Consequently, the addition of magnesium is effective in improving the infiltration; however, it causes the strength of the composites to decrease. It is found that in this process, the optimum magnesium content in aluminum from the viewpoints of ease of infiltration and strength was 4.7 mass%.  相似文献

Ultra-fine grained γ-Ni–xFe (x = 20, 50, and 64 (nominal)) dispersed Al2O3-matrix composites were fabricated by a mechano-chemical process plus hot-pressing, and their mechanical and magnetic properties were explored. The results indicated that all composites incorporated with different γ-Ni–xFe alloys possessed high densities (relative density D  98%) and sub-micrometer-sized matrix dispersed with γ-Ni–xFe particles of sizes below ∼500 nm. As compared to other two composite systems, γ-Ni–20Fe/Al2O3 had finer microstructures and displayed superior fracture toughness and strength. In high iron-contained γ-Ni–64Fe/Al2O3 composite undesired FeAl2O4 phase formed on the matrix grain boundaries, which is mainly responsible for its inferior mechanical properties. Although Young’s modulus and hardness of Ni–20Fe/Al2O3 composite system decreased, its fracture toughness increased monotonously with increasing the alloy content in the composition range investigated. Moreover, incorporation of ferromagnetic γ-Ni–xFe particles led all the composite systems to display ferromagnetism with their saturation magnetization increasing almost linearly with increasing alloy content. In addition, experiments showed that their ferromagnetism had high thermal stability (Tc = ∼580 °C), no obvious magnetism degradation and magnetic interactions of the alloys with the matrix being observed. The combination of good mechanical properties with excellent magnetic performance would make this material be very valuable in industry.  相似文献

Heat-treatment processes to obtain carbide-free upper bainite, low bainite and low-temperature bainite in the 34MnSiCrAlNiMo medium-carbon steel were explored. Results show that in the steel bainite transformation mainly goes through three stages: short incubation, explosive nucleation and slow growth. When transformation temperature, T > Ms + 75 °C, upper bainite consisted of catenary bainitic ferrite and blocky retained austenite is obtained in the steel. When Ms + 10 °C < T < Ms + 75 °C, lower bainite is the main morphology composed of lath-like bainitic ferrite and flake-like retained austenite. When T < Ms + 10 °C, the lower bainite, also known as low-temperature bainite, is obtained, which contains much thinner lath-like bainitic ferrite and film-like retained austenite. Mechanical testing results show that the lower the transformation temperature is, the better comprehensive performance is. The low-temperature bainite has the very high tensile strength and impact toughness simultaneously. The lower bainite has lower tensile strength and higher impact toughness. The upper bainite has higher tensile strength and lower impact toughness. The big difference of the mechanical performance between these kinds of bainite is mainly caused by interface morphology, size, and phase interface structure of the bainitic ferrite and the retained austenite. Additionally, when the bainite transformation temperature is decreased, the high-angle misorientation fraction in packets of bainite ferrite plates is increased. High-angle misorientation between phase interfaces can prevent crack propagation, and thus improves impact toughness.  相似文献
