The effective surface energy of brittle materials   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The effective surface energy of four brittle materials, alumina, poly(methylmethacrylate), glass, and graphite, is calculated from load/deflection curves of notched bars deformed in three-point bending. Two of the methods, which are commonly used in fracture mechanics studies,viz the modified Griffith treatment and the compliance analysis method, are concerned with the effective surface energy at the initiation of fracture, I . The third method, the work of fracture test, is concerned with the mean effective surface energy over the whole fracture process, F . The two estimates of I give consistent values, and there is no systematic variation of I with notch depth. Values of F decrease with increasing notch depth as the fracture process becomes more controlled. For alumina I F . For PMMA and glass I > F because of a multiplicity of crack sources during fracture initiation. For graphite I < F because of subsidiary cracking as fracture proceeds.  相似文献

The electrical resistivity (T) of V-rich V3Si single crystals (T c-11.4 K) was measured from 4.2 to 300 K along the directions of [1 0 0] and [1 1 1] before and after plastic deformation at 1573 K. Anisotropy of (T) was observed although V3Si has the cubic A15 structure. Plastic deformation does not affect the normal-state (T) behaviour but changes the normal-superconducting transition width Tc. At low temperatures (T c<T 40 K), (T) varies approximately as T n where n-2.5 and this behaviour does not contradict the (0)- phase-diagram plot proposed by Gurvitch, where is the electron-phonon coupling constant and (0) is the residual resistivity.  相似文献

The nature of the interface, the orientation relationship of -SiC whisker (-SiCw)-Al combination, and the misfit dislocation structures at the -SiCw-Al interfaces in a -SiCw-Al composite have been observed by a high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). It was shown that quite a good bonding between the whisker and the aluminium was achieved due largely to the lattice match between SiC and aluminium at the interfaces. The orientation relationship between the whisker and the aluminium was {002}SiC{111}Al; 110SiC110Al. The interface was clean, faceted and semicoherent. The misfit dislocation cores were located in the whisker side away from the -SiCw-Al interfaces.  相似文献

A potential heat-resistant ductile eutectic composite,/-, in the Ni-Al-Mo ternary system has been thermally cycled in the temperature range 200 to 1000° C for up to 1000 cycles in an attempt to examine dimensional as well as microstructural stability of the composite under thermal fatigue conditions. The composite examined has two types of initial microstructure; in one, blocky -Ni3Al encircles individual-Mo fibres (as-grown condition) whereas in the other, is in the form of fine cuboidal particles uniformly distributed in an Ni-rich fcc matrix (heat-treated condition). Dilatometric measurements upon temperature cycling show that the composite is stable against thermal ratchetting irrespective of initial microstructural conditions. However, the cycling induces microstructural change, which is characterized by segmentation of-Mo fibres or formation of a detrimental brittle phase identified as an intermetallic-NiMo that consumes-Mo fibres whether the fibres are encircled by or not. Post-cycling tensile tests at room temperature show that the fibre damage in the former has no fatal effect on tensile strength and ductility. A beneficial effect of the-encircling configuration is discussed on the basis of the recognition of a peritecto-eutectoid reaction:++ that has been disregarded.  相似文献

Magnetoconductance and excess conductance due to superconducting fluctuations in aluminum films are measured in order to study the temperature dependence of the pair-breaking parameter at temperatures nearT c . The parameter M is estimated from the relation =/8k B Tin, where in is the inelastic scattering time deduced from the analysis of the magnetoconductance. The parameter F is determined by fitting theories to data on the excess conductance at zero magnetic field. It is shown that: (1) For films with a wide range of the sheet resistanceR , 12R 200 /, the temperature dependence of M nearT c agrees well with the theory of Brenig et al. (2) For clean films withR 100 /, the value of F analyzed with theories including the correction term to the Maki-Thompson contribution shows almost the same temperature dependence as M . Conclusions The ground reflection factor can be determined in the range of 25–400 Mc from relative measurements of field strength in a vertical plane.In order to raise the accuracy of measurements it is necessary that the load impedance of the receiving dipole should be considerably larger than its input impedance and that its height should vary in the range of 0.5h22 (for h15=const).  相似文献

Magnetic properties of manganese ion spin systems in zeolite-Y have been measured. These ions act as almost free ions in the zeolite. Low frequency ac-susceptibility can be described with the Curie-Weiss law down to 50 mK. The susceptibility has a maximum around 30 mK showing a magnetic anomaly. Characteristic relaxation times deduced from frequency dependence of the maxima are studied. They diverge towardsT c = 0 K according to the following formula, = 0exp{(b/T)+1} where 0 = 3 x 10–10 sec, b = 0.28K, and = 0.4, respectively. It is expected from ESR measurements that the dominant interaction between the manganese ions is dipole-dipole like. This divergence is interpreted as that of a dipolar spin glass.  相似文献

Several 316 manual metal arc weld metals produced with commercial and experimental consumables were aged between 600 and 850 °C. This resulted in the dissolution of the -ferrite with the appearance of new austenite, M23C6, intermetallics , and phase. During transformation, the -ferrite becomes progressively enriched in Cr, Mo and Si and, depending on the local composition of the -ferrite, eventually transforms to intermetallic or phases. A transformation model has been developed which indicates that solute diffusion via the / interface is the controlling mechanism. This enrichment process has been found to be important in controlling the formation of intermetallics. In the weld metals containing controlled residual additions of Ti and Ti + B, ageing resulted in the a fine dispersion of MX phase in the austenitic matrix.  相似文献

Avenel and Varoquaux have proposed an experiment for observing pressure-induced Josephson flow oscillations across an orifice connecting two reservoirs of3He-B. The aim of the present work is to specify the conditions for the observability of this effect. First the six coupled Ginzburg-Landau (GL) equations for the order parameter components within the orifice are solved, subject to rigid boundary conditions at the ends (fixed phase difference between the bulk order parameters) and specular reflection boundary conditions at the walls. The longitudinal component is depressed and one of the transverse components is enhanced toward the middle of the orifice. From the order parameter functions the supercurrent through the orifice I(), and the GL energyF() are calculated for 0 2 and for different lengths and cross sections of the orifice. A new feature of the functionI() in comparison to the current-phase relationship for superconducting microbridges is its multivaluedness and the occurrence of two nontrivial zeros ofI(). The functionF() exhibits two local maxima besides the absolute maximum at =. The optimal length of the orifice for the observability of the ac Josephson effect turns out to be about seven GL coherence lengths . Then the frequency of the Josephson flow oscillations, which follow the sudden application of a force F on a diaphragm, depends on F in a way similar to that in which the frequency of the parallel ringing experiment in3He-A depends on the field step H.  相似文献

No Heading In presence of the Josephson vortex lattice in layered superconductors, small c-axis magnetic field penetrates in the form of vortex chains. In general, structure of a single chain is determined by the ratio of the London [] and Josephson [J] lengths, = /J. The chain is composed of tilted vortices at large s (tilted chain) and at small s it consists of crossing array of Josephson vortices and pancake-vortex stacks (crossing chain). We study chain structures at the intermediate s and found two types of phase transitions. For 0.6 the ground state is given by the crossing chain in a wide range of pancake separations a [2–3]J. However, due to attractive coupling between deformed pancake stacks, the equilibrium separation can not exceed some maximum value depending on the in-plane field and . The first phase transition takes place with decreasing pancake-stack separation a at a = [1 – 2]J, and rather wide range of the ratio , 0.4 0.65. With decreasing a, the crossing chain goes through intermediate strongly-deformed configurations and smoothly transforms into the tilted chain via the second-order phase transition. Another phase transition occurs at very small densities of pancake vortices, a [20 – 30]J, and only when exceeds a certain critical value 0.5. In this case small c-axis field penetrates in the form of kinks. However, at very small concentration of kinks, the kinked chains are replaced with strongly deformed crossing chains via the first-order phase transition. Thermoelasticity equations in stresses are derived in this paper for a Cosserat medium taking into account the finiteness of the heat propagation velocity. We have performed measurements of the complex magnetic ac susceptibility of superconducting compacted platinum powders at temperatures 0.1T10 mK with different ac excitation frequencies in the interval 5 Hz/210 kHz and with different excitation field amplitudes at 0.006bAC2 T. The dependence of the ac susceptibility on the excitation field amplitude permits to determine the intergranular critical current density jc whereas the frequency dependence reflects the flux dynamics. By comparing the experimental results with theoretical predictions we identify flux flow, flux pinning and flux creep effects in the regimes of intra- and intergranular superconductivity. The possible impact of these effects on the superconducting parameters like jc of the samples is discussed.  相似文献

We derive a general expression for the dynamic spin susceptibility of3He-B which is valid for all magnetic fields. The coupling of real and imaginary modes by particle-hole asymmetry is taken into account. Then we calculate the contribution of the mode at frequency =2 – 1/4 ( is the effective Larmor frequency) to the transverse susceptibility. The spectral weight of this mode in magnetic resonance absorption is proportional to (/)1/2 (–)2, where and are particle-hole asymmetry parameters. From the experimental coupling strength of the real squashing mode to sound we estimate (–)210–4. The dynamic susceptibility satisfies the sum rules of Leggett. Finally we point out the difficulties in calculating the transverse NMR frequency of3He-B. These difficulties arise from theS z =0 Cooper pairs and from the coupling ofJ z =±1 modes forJ=1 andJ=2.  相似文献

Mechanical properties of tensile strength, , upper yield stress, SU, lower yield stress, SL elongation, , area reduction, , Vickers hardness, H v, and impact absorbed energy, E, were examined using 50 specimens of S35C carbon steel, which were machined from two bars supplied from the same charged and heat-treated material. Distribution characteristics of these properties are discussed, and the correlation between each pair of them is investigated from a statistical viewpoint. The main conclusions obtained are summarized as follows; distribution characteristics of B, SL, , , H v and E are well approximated by a normal distribution, but those of asu are not approximated as well by this type of distribution. In the latter case, a Weibull distribution is preferable to represent the distribution pattern. No significant correlation was observed between each pair of the above mechanical properties. Consequently, individual properties have the inherent distribution characteristics independent of the other properties.  相似文献

The causes of a discrepancy in the results of measurements of He II viscosity below T 1.6 k obtained with different measurement methods are investigated. It is shown that to obtain correct results in oscillation experiments, the condition ph should obtain, where is the depth of viscous wave penetration and ph is the phonon free path length. Results of viscosity measurements at different ratios /ph (by a wire viscometer) are presented. It is shown that for the condition ph, the results obtained are in good agreement with the results of Andronikashvili (in which /ph > 100). If the mentioned relation is not satisfied, then, as the value of the ratio /ph is decreased, the value measured for the viscosity is increasingly lower than the results of Andronikashvili.  相似文献

The dielectric properties of chemically vapour-deposited (CVD) amorphous and crystalline Si3N4 were measured in the temperature range from room temperature to 800° C. The a.c. conductivity ( a.c.) of the amorphous CVD-Si3N4 was found to be less than that of the crystalline CVD-Si3N4 below 500° C, but became greater than that of the crystalline CVD-Si3N4 over 500° C due to the contribution of d.c. conductivity ( d.c.). The measured loss factor () and dielectric constant () of the amorphous CVD-Si3N4 are smaller than those of the crystalline CVD-Si3N4 in all of the temperature and frequency ranges examined. The relationships of n-1, (- ) n-1 and/(- ) = cot (n/2) (were observed for the amorphous and crystalline specimens, where is angular frequency andn is a constant. The values ofn of amorphous and crystalline CVD-Si3N4 were 0.8 to 0.9 and 0.6 to 0.8, respectively. These results may indicate that the a.c. conduction observed for both of the above specimens is caused by hopping carriers. The values of loss tangent (tan) increased with increasing temperature. The relationship of log (tan) T was observed. The value of tan for the amorphous CVD-Si3N4 was smaller than that of the crystalline CVD-Si3N4.  相似文献

We have studied the magnetic state from a viewpoint of crystallographic features of the 1-D chain compound Ca0.824CuO2. A possible spin-hole arrangement in the magnetically coexisting state was determined by analyzing the local structural distortion in the CuO2 chain by means of a modulated-crystal-structure analysis. The essential periodic sequence expected is (: up- and down-spin, : hole), which can be regarded as a kind of spin-1/2 ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic alternating Heisenberg chain.  相似文献

Some electrical properties of hot-pressed lithium sialons, Li x/8Si6–3x/4Al5x/8O x N8–x havingx<5 and an yttrium sialon were measured between 291 and 775 K; the former consisted essentially of a single crystalline phase whereas the latter contained 98% glassy phase. For lithium sialons, the charging and discharging current followed al(t) t –nlaw withn=0.8 at room temperature. The d.c. conductivities were about 10–13 ohm–1 cm–1 at 291 K and rose to 5×10–7 ohm–1 cm–1 at 775 K. At high temperatures electrode polarization effects were observed in d.c. measurements. The variation of the conductivity over the frequency range 200 Hz to 9.3 GHz followed the () n law. The data also fitted the Universal dielectric law,() n–1 well, and approximately fitted the Kramers-Kronig relation()/()– =cot (n/2) withn decreasing from 0.95 at 291 K to 0.4 at 775 K. The temperature variations of conductivities did not fit linearly in Arrhenius plots. Very similar behaviour was observed for yttrium sialon except that no electrode polarization was observed. The results have been compared with those obtained previously for pure sialon; the most striking feature revealed being that d.c. for lithium sialon can be at least 103 times higher than that of pure sialon. Interpretation of the data in terms of hopping conduction suggests that very similar processes are involved in all three classes of sialon.  相似文献
