Reports an error in "The specialty of neuropsychology" by Anne L. Hess and Robert P. Hart (Neuropsychology, 1990[Jan], Vol 4[1], 49-52). This article does not represent an attempt by the Division 40 Committee on Professional Affairs to define the specialty of clinical neuropsychology, and was not prepared at the request of the Division 40 Committee on Professional Affairs of the American Psychological Association. The publisher extends its apologies for any confusion this may have caused. (The following abstract of the original article appeared in record 1991-13156-001.) Presents an attempt by the Division 40 Committee on Professional Affairs of the American Psychological Association to define the specialty of clinical neuropsychology. The specialty should be defined for psychologists and consumers of psychological services (e.g., government agencies, insurance companies) so that all concerned can have a clearer sense of expectations of qualifications and standards of practice for this field. Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions: Paul Satz.

Announces that Paul Satz has received the APA's 1996 Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Knowledge. Satz is considered one of the top world authorities in the area of developmental neuropsychology. He was one of the early founders of the International Neuropsychological Society, he helped establish the American Psychological Association's Division 40, and he participated in the development and certification of neuropsychology as a diplomate specialty of the American Board of Professional Psychology. Discusses contributions made by Ronald E. Fox, recipient of the 1992 Distinguished Career Contributions to Education and Training in Psychology Award, and Charles G. Matthews, recipient of the 1992 Distinguished Contributions to Education and Training in Psychology Award given by the American Psychological Association. Fox is recognized for his contributions to the field of education in professional psychology, including his work in establishing the Association of Psychology Internship Centers and organizing the National Council of Schools of Professional Psychology. Matthews is recognized as one of the foremost clinical neuropsychologists in the world as evidenced by his serving as president of the International Neurological Society and of the American Psychological Association's Division 40. Educational backgrounds of clinical neuropsychologists in APA-approved internship sites.

Surveyed the educational backgrounds and related postdoctoral experiences of 122 current instructors of clinical neuropsychology in American Psychological Association (APA)-approved internship programs to determine how closely their training approximated the minimal standards for practitioners of clinical neuropsychology proposed by the International Neuropsychological Society (INS)/Division 40 of the APA. Overall, the training of internship instructors in clinical neuropsychology was better than that reported in a previous survey of predoctoral instructors. Findings suggest a need for further development of formal postdoctoral training experiences in clinical neuropsychology as a means of fulfilling the spirit of the INS training guidelines. Obituary: Alan O. Ross (1921-1993).

Memorializes A. O. Ross, who had an active and influential role in the development of clinical psychology and made many contributions to behavior therapy. Ross wrote books concerned with behavioral approaches to clinical psychology, a specialty area he helped formalize in the establishment of Section 1 of the Division of Clinical Psychology of the American Psychological Association (APA). Joint Division 22 and ACRM guidelines for postdoctoral training in rehabilitation psychology.

Presents the guidelines for postdoctoral training in Rehabilitation Psychology that were jointly developed by the American Psychological Association Rehabilitation Psychology Division and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM). The American Psychological Association 2010 APA/APAGS Award for Distinguished Graduate Student in Professional Psychology is awarded on an annual basis by the APA Board of Professional Affairs (BPA) and the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) to a graduate student who has demonstrated outstanding practice and application of psychology. Memorializes Jules Barron (1923–1991). Barron helped organize the American Academy of Psychotherapists and served as its president from 1964 to 1966. Edward S. Bordin (1913–1992): Obituary.

As teacher, scholar, research investigator, and mentor, Bordin defined research issues in psychology, and his 1st book pointed to the influence of developmental experience and self-perspective on life choices. Also, Bordin was an early investigator of psychotherapeutic processes. Bordin served as president of the Division of Counseling Psychology of the American Psychological Association in 1955, as chair of its Education and Training Board in 1956, and as a member of its Board of Professional Affairs in 1964.
