Geographical Information Systems or GIS are becoming useful tools in making strategic decisions in a variety of government and business activities in areas such as housing, healthcare, land use, natural resources, environmental monitoring, public health, transportation, retail, and routing. This usefulness emanates from the capability of GIS to present a large amount of data in a short period of time on a map, using a geographical coordinate system. In most cases, spatial datasets required for GIS mapping are already available free from many governmental agencies. GIS use more of computing technology than geographical concepts, however, the capabilities of GIS software did not reach the level of simplicity encountered in most software used on a daily basis. Most organizations perform GIS analysis on their data without getting involved with the mapping technology. A typical GIS analyst faces various challenges while incorporating non-spatial dataset to spatial dataset in order to present resulting dataset on a geographical map. In this paper, we present some data manipulation complexities that are encountered while using a GIS software to provide spatial twists to a large user dataset. We also provide ways to facilitate the data manipulation process through a practical example of asthma epidemiology. based on the analysis of water spectral signatures in Landsat\|8 OLI remotely sensed image covered Qinghai Lake and ENVI software,a new method referred to as the “IDLWI”(Interactive Data Language Water Index) was put forward to identify water body.The method is to amplify the digital number(DN) values between water and non water body by the difference operation between the squared green band(Band 3) and the squared near\|infrared band(Band 5),with the help of IDL language data conversion rules built in ENVI software.On the basis of water identification,an improved Canny operator was applied to automatically extract Qinghai Lake boundary in the format of vector.In this paper,Qinghai Lake boundary was extracted by means of MNDWI plus improved Canny operator,the law of spectrum relevance plus improved Canny operator and the squared\|difference method plus improved Canny operator respectively.The extracting results were verified by high spatial remotely sensed image and GIS spatial analysis,and it shows that there is an obvious improvement in accuracy and continuity compared to the methods of MNDWI plus improved Canny operator,and the law of spectrum relevance plus improved Canny operator.Besides,the method we proved did well in extracting the boundaries of water which is linked to overflow land and wetland. 相似文献

A land cover map of Jersey was created using remotely sensed images recorded by satellite. This map brought together a range of disparate techniques, developed in isolation and mostly applied experimentally, integrating multisensor, multitemporal, enhanced spatial resolution data within an object-oriented integrated Geographical Information System (GIS) for an applications-driven, operational programme. It was developed under the Classification of Environment with Vector- and Raster-Mapping (CLEVER-Mapping) project: this improved approach to operational land cover mapping used information on the subdivision of the landscape into land parcels to help classify remotely sensed images on a per-parcel basis. The object-oriented approach allowed the use of remotely sensed information which relates directly to ground features, and the application of improved knowledge-based corrections using a range of external data. Unlike a conventional map, the parcel-based approach produced a GIS database containing classified land parcels which could also be used as a storage framework and analysis tool for other datasets in later analyses. The GIS recorded 21 land cover types. Validation against reference land parcel data gave a correspondence of between 85% and 95% depending on the level of class aggregation. 相似文献
