Anionic and cationic N-halamine polyelectrolytes were synthesized, characterized and then immobilized onto melt-blown polypropylene fabrics having two different basis-weights. The coatings were rendered biocidal upon exposure to dilute sodium hypochlorite solution. The effect of single and multilayer deposition of the polyelectrolytes on the surfaces was investigated in terms of chlorine loadings, rechargeabilities, antimicrobial efficacies, and air permeabilities. It was found that all of the coatings provided remarkable biocidal efficacies with about six log reductions of bacteria within two min of contact time on filters having higher basis-weight, whereas slower inactivation was observed for lower-basis weight filters due to diminished surface areas and numbers of active halogen atoms. The antimicrobial coatings reduced the air permeabilities of the filters somewhat; however, the air permeabilities of the coated swatches were comparable to those of most protective textiles. 相似文献

Linseed oil fatty acids were epoxidized by peracetic acid, then reacted with diethanolamine to give epoxidized hydroxy ethyl linseed oil fatty acid amide ( I ). This amide was rejected with toluene diisocyanate to produce epoxidized polyurethane-amide ( II ). Component I was also reacted with phthalic anhydride to give epoxidized polyesteramide ( III ). Resins II and III were evaluated as coating materials. The results obtained were compared with commercial epoxy resin, and show that resins II and III may be suitable to use as petroleum pipeline coatings. 相似文献

The adsorption of viruses from aqueous solution is frequently performed to detect viruses. Charged filtration materials capture viruses via electrostatic interactions, but lack the specificity of biological virus-binding substances like heparin. Herein, we present three methods to immobilize heparin-mimicking, virus-binding polymers to a filter material. Two mussel-inspired approaches are used, based on dopamine or mussel-inspired dendritic polyglycerol, and post-functionalized with a block-copolymer consisting of linear polyglycerol sulfate and amino groups as anchor (lPGS-b-NH2). As third method, a polymer coating based on lPGS with benzophenone anchor groups is tested (lPGS-b-BPh). All three methods yield dense and stable coatings. A positively charged dye serves as a tool to quantitatively analyze the sulfate content on coated fleece. Especially lPGS-b-BPh is shown to be a dense polymer brush coating with about 0.1 polymer chains per nm2. Proteins adsorb to the lPGS coated materials depending on their charge, as shown for lysozyme and human serum albumin. Finally, herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) can be removed from solution upon incubation with coated fleece materials by about 90% and 45%, respectively. In summary, the presented techniques may be a useful tool to collect viruses from aqueous environments. 相似文献

The blends of polybutene-1 and polypropylene (PB-1/PP) prepared by mixing in xylene at 130 °C and then precipitating in cool methanol are subject to differential scanning calorimetry analysis. The melting temperatures of both components in the blends are determined. The melting temperature depressions of the blends at various compositions are reported and the method developed by Nishi and Wang is used to calculated the interaction parameterX in the blend. All theX values found are negative in the range -0.052 – -1.10, indicating that PP and PB-1 in the amorphous region are compatible. 相似文献

The toughening mechanism of polypropylene (PP) filled with calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanoparticles is described. In a previous study (Macromolecule 2008;41:9204), we observed that intensive ligament-stretching following debonding of nanoparticles was responsible for the significant improvement in the impact toughness of the annealed PP/CaCO3 nanocomposites. Furthermore, we hypothesized that strong ligaments, which have high fracture stresses, are needed to stabilize the crack-initiation process and to increase the energy dissipation in the crack-initiation stage. In this study, we used a high-molecular-weight PP to test this hypothesis because strong ligaments could be created from this high-molecular-weight PP. The notched Izod impact strength of the nanocomposites containing the high-molecular-weight PP and 20 wt% CaCO3 nanoparticles with a monolayer coating of stearic acid was measured to be about 370 J/m, whereas the impact strength of the unfilled PP was 50 J/m. The size of the plastic deformation zone was found to be dependent on the molecular weight of the PP matrix because the strong ligaments of the high-molecular-weight PP enabled the expansion of the plastic deformation zone, leading to a considerable increase in the impact strength. The synergic effect of the high-molecular-weight PP and the monolayer-coated nanoparticles produced nanocomposites with high impact strength, which is much greater than the inherent impact strength of the unfilled polymer. In addition, the effect of the high-molecular-weight PP on the dispersion of the nanoparticles was investigated. 相似文献

The dispersing of pigments in powder coatings is a difficult and complicated process. The incomplete dispersion under standard extrusion conditions can be attributed to a combination of poor pigment wetting and insufficient disruption of the pigment agglomerates, as a result of the rheological properties of the powder coating resin. The use of block copolymer dispersants for improving the pigment dispersion in powder coatings is studied in this project. Novel block copolymer dispersants from 2-vinylpyridine and ε-caprolactone have been synthesized and tested. These block copolymers show a high affinity for TiO2 pigments and are capable of improving the stability of a TiO2 dispersion in a polyester powder coating resin. 相似文献

The influence of stem conformation on the crystallization of i-PP is studied by growing α-form lamellae in melts of β-form lamellae at different temperatures. The melting of β-form lamellae and the crystallization of α-form lamellae is observed in situ at the interface of α- and β-form spherulites by AFM. The growth rate of α-form lamellae in the melt of β-form lamellae is much lower than that in the isotropic melt due to the stem conformation barrier, which originates from the difference in the α and β unit cell packing models. 相似文献

The formation of a crosshatched morphology during crystallization of an isotactic polypropylene with low crystallinity is studied in detail. Here, a lamella seems to grow through another nearly perpendicular lamella that was crystallized before. The crystallization was observed with in situ scanning force microscopy with a temporal resolution of 3 min per image. After crystallization the volume structure was imaged by nanotomography.
