Accurate prediction of moisture content (MC) is vital for effective control of on-farm, in-bin drying and storage of rough rice, especially for systems using recently introduced technology to automate fan run time. The study used simulations, laboratory, and field experiments to investigate the extent to which rewetting and drying, during in-bin drying and storage, affect accuracy of predicted MC—a critical parameter for automated fan control. Vapor sorption analysis (VSA) was used to generate MC prediction models for rough rice. Simulations of in-bin drying and storage, using in-field weather data, were performed while segregating effects resulting from rewetting and drying of the rough rice and the type of fan control strategy used. Predicted MC profiles of rough rice and drying durations were compared with those resulting from using standard constants in the literature for modeling. The root mean square error associated with predicting the MC by model constants developed using the VSA was 0.54% MC and 1.32% MC dry basis (d.b.), for desorption and adsorption, respectively. Deviation in MC logged by in-bin built, field sensors and that simulated by taking into account the influence of rewetting and drying were generally within 1.5% point difference. On-farm, in-bin drying of corn is weather dependent process that requires a careful selection of drying strategy in a locality to prevent reduction in the grain quality. This study simulated drying and storage of corn using different fan control methods and assessed the impact of infrared heat treatments to decontaminate corn of harmful molds spores. Fan operation considered included running the fan continuously, only at night (NANO), only during the day (NADO), at a set window of equilibrium moisture content of natural air, and when supplemented with heating of ambient air. The drying was investigated at various initial moisture contents (16 to 22%, wet basis), air flow rates (1.11 to 4.46?m3?min?1[air] t?1 [corn]) and corn harvesting start dates (August 15–November 15). To prevent aflatoxin contamination, freshly-harvested corn should be dried within 10 days to MC below 15% if prevailing relative humidity exceeds 86%.  相似文献

Intermittent drying of materials is an alternative operation that aims at reducing energy consumption, improve the preservation of dried products or decrease effective drying time. Intermittent drying supplies the system with time-varying input air properties that are opposite to traditional operations, where air properties are constant at the dryer inlet. The major objective of this study is to establish the most satisfactory patterns of air temperature and velocity modulation at the dryer entrance to reduce energy consumption. This optimization study was based on a heterogeneous model for the drying of grains in fixed bed validated with experimental data. Intermittent and conventional operation experiments were conducted using equal energy consumption, and the influence of air temperature and velocity modulation on the drying rates related to the percentage of evaporated water were assessed. Results indicated that higher drying rates can be achieved under intermittent operation, and the validated model based on these results could reasonably predict temperature and moisture content profiles. Simulations pointed out that the best modulation patterns of air properties is a function of a variety of system conditions such as initial temperature and moisture content of both soybean and drying air. However, a tendency to reduce energy consumption was observed when the system operation is initially at high temperature and constantly at low velocity.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of different microwave drying techniques on the drying kinetics and product quality of dried green soybean. Experiments were conducted using microwave vacuum drying (MVD), pulse-spouted vacuum microwave drying (PSMVD), pulse-spouted microwave drying (PSMD), and microwave freeze drying (MFD). Parameters of apparent density, color, processing temperature, expansion ratio, rehydration ratio, texture, and microstructure of the dried products were determined. The results showed that the MFD green soybean had a small change on bright color, compared with the fresh samples, but the drying time was the longest among the four methods. The bright color value of PSMVD/PSMD/MVD, respectively, was 79.77, 71.43, and 55.45, and drying time of them was slightly different. The PSMVD/PSMD showed advantages over MVD by improving the product quality.  相似文献

The content of nonhydratable phosphatides in soybean crude oil is increased by phospholipase D activity during the oil-making process. Enzyme inhibition would allow to minimize them. Recently harvested soybeans with high moisture levels require adequate drying to store safely. Simultaneous soybean drying and phospholipase D inactivation in a single operation when applying a thermal treatment by the fluidized-bed technique was evaluated. The process conditions for performing the drying and a complete enzyme inhibition on soybeans, with an initial moisture content between 7.4 and 20.6% wet basis, similar to that at the time of the harvest, were fluidizing and drying medium temperature between 110 and 140°C, and a drying time between 1 and 2 min. For the treated soybeans, the phosphorus content increased up to 223% in crude oil and decreased 17% in degummed crude oil with regard to the values of the control sample.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to examine the drying characteristics of blanched and unblanched sardine during indoor and open sun drying processes. Changes in temperature and relative humidity of the air during drying were recorded. The color, peroxide value (PV), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), free fatty acid (FFA) content, fatty acid composition, and sensory attributes of dried samples were also evaluated once a month for 5 months of storage. High drying rates were obtained in all samples at the start of drying and then decreased with increasing drying time. The highest drying rate and effective water diffusivity (Deff) were observed in blanched sardine during open sun drying. Blanching treatment slowed down the FFA progression during product storage but adversely affected the color, PV, and TBARS content as well as sensory properties. Although sardine dried for a longer time under indoor drying conditions, it attained a stable moisture ratio that was lower than in open sun-dried samples. Indoor drying produced a quality stable product with less lipid oxidation and the desired moisture content, higher polyunsaturated fatty acids and sensory properties. Blanching treatment negatively affected the fish quality and is therefore not recommended for commercial sardine drying.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The work is for the purpose of studying the influence of drying temperature and ultrasound on drying kinetics, antioxidant enzymes, and germination performance of pea seeds. The drying experiments were performed at air temperature of 30, 35, and 40°C without ultrasound and with three ultrasonic levels of 28?kHz?+?60?W, 28?kHz?+?100?W, and 40?kHz?+?60?W. The antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) and the toxic substances such as malondialdehyde (MDA) of the dried seeds were determined, and germination percentage (GP), germination index (GI), and mean germination time (MGT) were measured. The result showed that high temperature and ultrasound application had significant (P?<?0.05) enhancing of pea seed drying kinetics, which shortened the drying time and improved the diffusion coefficient from 3.528?×?10?11 to 5.668?×?10?11?m2/s. Page model can well describe the drying curves under different experiment conditions. Ultrasound application significantly (P?<?0.05) improved the activities of SOD, POD, and CAT and reduced the MDA content. In addition, high ultrasonic power contributed to the increase in GP and GI and the reduction of MGT of seeds.  相似文献

The effects of air-drying temperature and storage time on several characteristics of crude sunflower oil were evaluated in terms of FFA and PV. Long storage affected oil content to a greater extent than air-drying temperature. FFA and PV varied between 0.53 and 1.22% and between 10.7 and 23.3. meq O2/kg, respectively, when samples of uniform initial moisture content (approximately 28%) were dried at various temperatures between 25 and 90°C to approximately 7% moisture content, stored for 8 mon, and then analyzed. Both oil quality characteristics increased exponentially with air-drying temperature (T) and linearly with storage time (t). Mathematical functions of the form A·exp(B·T)+C·t (where A, B, and C are parameters adjusted from experimental data) most closely predicted the experimental loss of quality of sunflower oil in terms of FFA and PV with variations in T and t. Statistical analysis showed SE of the estimated parameters of 0.08 and 1.19 and coefficients of determination, R 2, of 0.922 and 0.939 for FFA and PV, respectively, which were significant at 95% confidence. High-oleic seeds from a similar experiment were used to validate the proposed equation. The results of applying the mathematical function proposed above showed a reasonable ability to predict the experimental values with SE of 0.037 and 0.808 and R 2 of 0.983 and 0.972 for FFA and PV, respectively, which were significant at 95% confidence. Plots of residuals showed random distribution. The results obtained suggested that the equation proposed could be used as a quality-loss model in sunflower drying simulations.  相似文献

Soybean seed hull peroxidase (SBP) is an inexpensive oxidoreductive enzyme and could potentially be used to oxidise/polymerise various organic pollutants present in the industrial and petrochemical wastes. SBP is able to retain its catalytic properties under wide ranges of pH and at elevated temperatures. In this study, a systematic evaluation of the biocatalytic properties of SBP was carried out. The optimal pH for SBP activity is pH 6.0 and significant activity was observed between 2.2 and 8.0. SBP also showed three times higher activity at an elevated temperature of 80°C and at pH 6.0 when compared to the activity at room temperature. The pH and temperature of the reaction mixture were found to significantly influence the SBP activity. SBP is fairly active in organic solvents. The enzyme exhibited highest activity in the presence of 16.67% (w/v) ethanol followed by acetone, methanol and acetonitrile. The enzyme activity was reduced with an increase in concentration of the organic solvent. SBP also showed maximum activity at different concentrations of acetone using a phosphate buffer, pH 6.0 than with the other pH buffers. Benzene/acetone mixture seems to be another better solvent system for SBP where it showed about 65% of its activity at 16.67% (w/v) concentration.  相似文献

The soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] industry is interested in cultivar and climate effects on seed composition. These factors may underlie the known geographic variation in seed protein and oil concentrations. Regression analyses were used to test hypotheses of the effect of temperature and cultivar on oil and protein concentrations of soybean seed using a large data set from the U.S.A. Soybean Uniform Tests. The data set included 20 cultivars representing 10 maturity groups across 60 locations (latitude 29.4 to 47.5° N) for a total of 1863 cultivar by location by year observations. Temperature was determined for each observation as the average daily mean temperature from predicted first pod (first pod at least 5 mm long), using the SOYGRO phenology model, to observed maturity. The mean temperature ranged from 14.6 to 28.7°C among the observations. Linear, quadratic, and linear plateau regression models of oil and protein concentrations vs. temperature were evaluated. The quadratic model gave the best-adjusted R 2 values for oil and protein with temperature, of 0.239 and 0.003, respectively. The analyses showed that the oil concentration increased with increasing temperature and approached a maximum at a mean temperature of 28°C. Unaccounted variation in the protein concentration may be from other factors such as photoperiod, water stress, or high temperatures during seed fill. Protein plus oil had a linear relationship with temperature (adjusted partial R 2=0.183). These data document the contribution of climate and cultivar to geographic variability of oil and protein concentrations in the United States.  相似文献

The purpose of the present work is to study the simultaneous heat and mass transfer between air and soybean seeds in a concurrent moving bed dryer, based on the application of a two-phase model to the drying process. The numerical solution of the model is obtained by using a computational code based on BDF methods (Backwards Differentials Formulas). The experimental data of air humidity and temperature and of seed moisture content and temperature at the dryer outlet are compared to the simulated values, showing a good agreement. This work also analyzes the effect of the main process variables (drying air temperature, air relative humidity, air velocity and solids flow rate) on the soybean seeds quality during drying. Empirical equations fitted to the experimental data are proposed for predicting the soybean seed quality (germination, vigor and fissures) as a function of the investigated variables.  相似文献

论述了国内外褐煤干燥提质技术的发展现状。针对传统热力干燥在褐煤电厂应用中存在的高能耗、高投资和低安全性等问题,开展了褐煤过热蒸汽干燥机理的试验研究和中试试验。结果表明:过热蒸汽的干燥效果优于常规热空气;中试试验系统能稳定、连续地对褐煤进行干燥,且干燥产品符合褐煤干燥实际工业应用的要求。最后提出了过热蒸汽预干燥低质煤提质洁净煤技术(SCU技术),对其在节能、安全等方面的技术先进性作了具体的对比分析,结果表明:SCU技术节能节水、安全性高,符合中国可持续发展战略和节能减排的要求。  相似文献

Organic aerogels were derived from acetic acid catalysed resorcinol and furfural and then dried directly in supercritical carbon dioxide without the use of a solvent exchange process. These aerogels were further carbonised in nitrogen and activated in CO2 in order to obtain their corresponding carbon aerogels. The carbon aerogels prepared by this method had a greater proportion of micropores in addition to a much shorter preparation time (on the order of days) than those prepared by other studies. The effect of different drying techniques on the microstructure of the wet gels was investigated by nitrogen adsorption at cryogenic liquid nitrogen temperature. Nitrogen adsorption at 77 K allowed the determination of surface areas and pore volumes, further analysed by the Dubinin-Radushkevich model and density functional theory model. The surface area and micropore volume of carbon aerogels prepared by this method increased by 19% and 12%, and accordingly, hydrogen uptake capacity was increased by 10% from 4.9 ± 0.2 wt.% to 5.4 ± 0.3 wt.% at 4.6 MPa and 77 K.  相似文献

Several researchers have developed studies to obtain a mathematical model able to describe grain drying kinetics. However, most of these studies neglect the effect of grain initial moisture content on drying curves. In this study, we assessed the dependence of drying curves and mass transfer coefficients on this initial moisture, air temperature, and its velocity by measuring grain mass losses within time on a tray dryer.
