Forage grass seeds have a high economical importance in the Brazilian bovine cattle breeding and seed drying is a fundamental stage of processing to guarantee their stability and allow their storage for long periods. In this context, the objective of this work was to develop a pilot-scale belt dryer, which operates also as a fixed and fluidized bed. Brachiaria brizantha seeds dehydration was analyzed under different air velocities and temperatures. Experimental data of moisture content variation along the drying time was successfully fit to a one-term exponential model. The experimental drying rate points were calculated by approximating the derivatives to finite differences. Its behavior was accomplished fitting curves of the drying rate versus water content and time. Finally, fissure, germination, and vigor rates were analyzed as a function of the drying conditions so that the experimental conditions combine the best process efficiency with the best physiological quality maintenance.  相似文献

An engineering application case study on a two‐fluid flow model for the control of industrial drying operations is reported. The mathematical model of this process was numerically solved by a computer code developed in FORTRAN language and was validated through data taken from PVC drying performed in an industrial continuous fluidized‐bed dryer. The predicted steady‐state outlet temperature and PVC moisture content values agree with the real data observed on the industrial plant. This model was also used to predict the temperature and concentration profiles inside the dryer as a function of time as a response to the disturbances and variations on the PVC water content at the dryer inlet.  相似文献

Experimental investigation on drying of ragi (Eleusine corocana) in a fluidized bed has been attempted covering the operating parameters such as temperature, flow rate of the drying medium, and solids holdup. The drying rate was found to increase significantly with increase in temperature and marginally with flow rate of the heating medium and to decrease with increase in solids holdup. The duration of constant rate period was found to be insignificant, considering the total duration of drying and the entire drying period was considered to follow falling rate period. The drying rate was compared with various simple exponential time decay models and the model parameters were evaluated. The Page model was found to match the experimental data very closely with the maximum root mean square of error (RMSE) less than 2.5%. The experimental data were also modeled using Fick's diffusion equation and the effective diffusivity coefficients were estimated. The effective diffusion coefficient was found to be within 5.7 to 14 × 10?11 m2/s for the range of experimental data covered in the present study with RMSE less than 5%.  相似文献

In this study, a model for a plug-flow fluidized bed dryer under steady-state conditions was presented. The model was based on differential equations; thus the bed of the dryer was divided horizontally and vertically into major and minor control volumes, respectively. Each control volume was composed of two thermodynamic systems: solid and gas. The mass and energy balances of the particles in the major control volume based on the axial dispersion were developed to derive the axial profiles of solid moisture content and temperature. To derive the variation of gas humidity and temperature along the bed height and hence the axial profiles of outlet gas humidity and temperature, the mass and energy balances in the gas over the minor control volume, considering the plug flow of gas through the bed, were developed. The model was validated by comparing the simulation results with the experimental data obtained by drying the long-grain rough rice under steady-state conditions in a laboratory-scale, plug-flow fluidized bed dryer. A very satisfactory agreement between the simulation and the experimental data of solid moisture content, solid temperature, and outlet gas humidity and temperature was achieved. Also, the effects of inlet gas temperature, weir height, and inlet dry solid mass flow rate on the simulated axial profiles of solid moisture content and temperature, humidity difference between inlet and outlet gas, and outlet gas temperature were investigated.  相似文献

This article presents experimental and modeled drying kinetics of turnip seeds as a function of the type of air-particle contact (fixed bed, pulsed fluidized bed), humidity of the air, and three levels of microwave irradiation. The effects of those factors on the drying time required to reach a moisture content of 0.1 kg/kg d.b. were determined with an experimental design of 12 experiments by using the software Statgraphics. It was found that in drying, a significant factor was the application of microwaves to a pulsed fluidized bed. The effect of the humidity of the air only became noticed when the moisture contents of the seeds was below 0.2 kg/kg d.b. The simplified variable diffusivity model (SVDM) gave the least deviations for the experimental data. The effective diffusivity values determined in this work are similar to those informed in the literature for experiments without microwave application. The application of microwaves in combination with pulsed fluidization of the turnip seeds resulted in a fourfold increase of the effective diffusivity.  相似文献

Abstract

The use of a fluidized bed dryer with a lateral air flow and mechanical agitation to the drying of sludge from a wastewater treatment plant was investigated. Experimental curves of moisture content vs. drying time, as well as heat transfer coefficients and the size characteristics of the products, were determined at temperatures between 80°C and 110°C, a stirring rate of 55 rpm and air velocity of 0.9 m/s for 3 kg sludge batches with initial moisture contents of 0.55 and 0.65 (d.b.). Experimental drying kinetics were compared with values derived from three models based on Fick's second law, namely: the constant diffusivity model, the simplified variable diffusivity model, and the modified quasi-stationary model.  相似文献

The drying behavior of moist spherical particles in a microwave-assisted fluidized bed dryer was simulated. The two-fluid Eulerian model incorporating the kinetic theory of granular flow was applied to simulate the gas–solid flow. The simulations were carried out using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package Fluent 6.3.26. The effects of different levels of microwave power densities as well as initial gas temperature on the prediction of solids moisture content, gas temperature, and gas absolute humidity were investigated. The effect of microwaves was incorporated into calculations using a concatenated user-defined function (UDF). The simulation results were compared with experimental data obtained from drying of soybeans in a pilot-scale microwave-assisted fluidized bed dryer and reasonable agreement was found. The mean relative deviation for prediction of solids moisture content, gas temperature, and gas absolute humidity were less than 3, 10, and 5%, respectively. Further work is needed to validate the proposed model for large-scale plants.  相似文献

In the present work an attempt has been made to study the dehydration of aonla (Indian gooseberry) fruits. Aonla fruits, being highly perishable, cannot be kept for long periods. Aonla contains a very high amount of vitamin C, which is highly volatile and susceptible to heat. Sun drying required the longest period of drying (660 min), while the shortest time of drying is with fluidized bed drying at 80°C with 115 m/min air velocity (120 min). The results indicate that there is great loss of most of the ascorbic acid in the aonla slices. This suggests that the drying exposure caused the loss of volatile biochemical compounds. The retention of ascorbic acid in the samples dried in fluidized bed drying is greater compared to those dried under sun and hot air tray.  相似文献

This article shows the results of heat and mass transfer coefficients estimation in a fluidized bed drying obtained through two independent metaheuristics, particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algorithms (GAs). Upon estimating parameters, we aimed to minimize errors between the experimental data provided by Vitor (Modeling of Biomass Drying in Fluidized Bed, D.Sc. Thesis, 2003) and those calculated through a three-phase drying differential-algebraic model. The computational results showed that the two metaheuristics chosen were suitable to estimate the drying parameters proposed here. When the two metaheuristics are compared, the PSO shows slightly better results in much shorter computational times. The coefficient of heat transfer estimated here is compared to results obtained from other experiments and proves to be quite adequate.  相似文献

Fluidized bed spray granulation is used to produce porous granular particles from suspensions, solutions, and melts. In this work, the drying of the spray and the drying of the particles in the fluidized bed are simulated using the Two Fluid Model (TFM) with the Eulerian-Eulerian approach. Using the wetted surfaces of the particle, the dust integration is implemented. The model is used to simulate the particle growth for a semi-batch fluidized bed spray granulation process.  相似文献

A series of vacuum fluidized bed drying experiments was carried out employing particles with distinct effective porosities. The experiments showed that decreasing the operating pressure as well as increasing the operating temperature produces higher drying rates in both drying periods. In all cases, the enhancement of the drying rates was found to be more significant in the case of particles with higher effective porosities. It is concluded that lower operating pressures as well as higher operating temperatures help to reduce the formation of air pockets in the pores and postpone the onset of the pendular state, enhancing the capillary action and the drying rates.  相似文献

Thermal behavior and stresses developed in a wood particle are predicted using a mathematical model formulated for drying in fluidized bed. Drying experiments have been carried out on 10 mm long and 30 mm diameter cylindrical disks at a bed temperature of 403 K (130°C). Drying time, mass reduction, and shrinkage during drying have been measured and used to validate the thermal model. The stress model is validated with an analytical solution available in literature. The drying time is experimentally found to be 630 s. The wood particle shrinks by 4.6% in the radial direction and by 1.0% in the longitudinal direction. The model indicates splitting failure at the circumference, which was also noticed during experiments.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to develop a mathematical model to estimate the batch drying curve of coriander seeds in an impingement dryer and to study the axial movement of a seed in a transparent prototype impingement dryer. The apparatus is a horizontal acrylic transparent cylinder with a slight slope to induce the axial and rotational movement of particles. Gas enters tangentially downwards through a narrow slot arranged all along the dryer, flows in a counterclockwise circular motion in the chamber—in crossflow with respect to the solids—and is discharged through an upper lengthwise expansion chamber. As a result of gas drag, the particles advance in a rotational-helicoidal motion between feed and discharge.

Velocity and temperature profiles for gas in 2D turbulent flow were simulated using commercial software from Fluent Inc.[ 1 Quispe , J.F. ; Canales , E.R. ; Bórquez , R.M. Simulation of turbulent flows in an impingement dryer by an extended κ-ε model . Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering 2000 , 190 , 625637 .[Crossref] [Google Scholar], 4 Soto , V. ; Bórquez , R.M. Simulation of superheated steam turbulence flows and heat transfer in an impingement dryer . Drying Technology 2003 , 21 ( 2 ), 311328 .[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar] ] Maximum velocities are shown to be located close the walls; most of the gas is recirculated, and the rest is exhausted. It is assumed that particle trajectories also follow a circular motion near the walls, as observed in the transparent reproduction of the dryer operating with ambient air for small batch of solids and/or a single particle. Air velocities along this trajectory are estimated from the simulated flow field. Particle motion, heating, and drying along this path are described by unsteady momentum, heat, and mass balances when subjected to gas drag and gravity forces.

With respect to the axial trajectory of a coriander seed, for an inlet air velocity of 20 m/s at the slot the average experimental time for a complete circular cycle is 0.18 s and the simulated time is 0.21 s, whereas average experimental residence time is 1.53 s and the simulated time is 0.94 s. Differences between experimental results and simulations are due to air instability, leading to nonhomogeneous air velocity profiles along the equipment. The mathematical model is based on the assumption that air velocity profiles are homogeneous. Experimental observations indicate that the particle does not move along the equipment but sometimes moves backward (or erratically) or spins out advancing, due to an uneven air speed profile, and impacts against the wall. Finally, the drying model gives results that adjust to the batch experimental data, taking into account the deviations found with respect to the axial trajectory from a seed. This is because the model was devised exactly to predict the conduct of the system in batch operation for a particle bed, obtaining results that show the macrocospic response of the equipment (velocity and average temperature of the air). As it happens in this type of phenomenon, the drying rate in the constant period is a function of the adimensional Reynolds number.  相似文献
