The objective of the study was to illuminate nursing staff's perception of changes after a course in patient transfer. The learning process took the form of self-experience focusing on the manner of supporting the patient to move independently. A total of 20 participants, who had answered a previously administered questionnaire, were chosen for interviews. The themes concerned the meaning of changing transfer habits. A phenomenological-hermeneutic analysis method showed that changes focused on the patient's body, the staff member's own body or cooperation with the patient. Awareness of one's own body and confidence in one's own ability seem to indicate differences in the manner of supporting the patient to move. The changes in transfer habits varied in content and meaning from person to person, depending on the focus during the transfer. These findings can contribute to an understanding of how change takes place after an educational intervention.  相似文献

The objective was to evaluate changes after a two half-day patient transfer course regarding nursing staff’s movement and body awareness, attitudes, reported behaviour, strain, disorder and sick leave. The course aimed at increasing staff’s self-awareness of movements and body, and their communication competence, with the intention to promote the patient’s independent mobility. Ninety-nine staff in an intervention group and 77 staff in two control groups answered a questionnaire before and after the intervention. After one year there was a significant increase in the number of instructions given and nursing staff’s movement awareness in the intervention group compared to the control group. Reported physical disorders decreased significantly in the intervention group compared with both control groups. Increased movement awareness and frequent use of instructions during transfers may encourage patients to move independently and thereby reduce the strain in nursing staff.  相似文献

Computer programming is considered an important competence for the development of higher-order thinking in addition to algorithmic problem solving skills. Its horizontal integration throughout all educational levels is considered worthwhile and attracts the attention of researchers. Towards this direction, an exploratory case study is presented concerning dimensions of problem solving using computer programming by 5–6 years old kindergarten children. After a short introductory experiential game the children were involved in solving a series of analogous computer programming problems, using a Logo-based environment on an Interactive White Board. The intervention was designed as a part of the structured learning activities of the kindergarten which are teacher-guided and are conducted in a whole-class social mode. The observation of the video recording of the intervention along with the analysis of teacher's interview and the researcher's notes allow for a realistic evaluation of the feasibility, the appropriateness and the learning value of integrating computer programming in such a context. The research evidence supports the view that children enjoyed the engaging learning activities and had opportunities to develop mathematical concepts, problem solving and social skills. Interesting results about children learning, difficulties, interactions, problem solving strategies and the teacher's role are reported. The study also provides proposals for the design of future research.  相似文献

The present study assessed the differences between clinician-authored and computer-generated personality assessments. The participants, 155 psychologists in independent practice, received one of four packets of client information which contained: a) Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory (MMPI)–2 profile; b) MMPI–2 profile and demographic information; c) MMPI–2 profile, demographics, and a computer based test interpretation report; or d) MMPI–2 profile, demographics, and a clinician-authored report. Participants were asked to assess a patient based on the information they received. These judgments were compared to symptom ratings made by staff where the patient was hospitalized. Results demonstrated that participants who received clinician-authored reports were most able to match hospital staff's ratings of patient symptomatology. Those who received computer-based test interpretation (CBTI) reports, however, were typically not able to make accurate assessments of the patients. In fact, participants who received a CBTI report of an ambiguous MMPI–2 profile (one which did not appear to match the patient's diagnosis) were actually less accurate at assessing symptomatology than were participants who received no report.  相似文献

This paper presents the theoretical framework and rationale for the ACTive intervention which proposes the use of video technology to facilitate patient and family participation in hospice interdisciplinary team meetings where plans of care are determined. It is surmised that patient and family involvement will improve communication and compliance in hospice care. An analysis of data from a pilot project of the ACTive intervention was conducted to explore active participation among family caregivers and the hospice team. Through the use of videophone technology caregivers participated in video‐recorded team meetings. The actual communication behaviors of caregivers and team members were analyzed for active participation. Findings revealed that team–prompted caregiver participation was most common, however, team use of supportive talk in this context was considerably less frequent. The study also found that the team's use of active participation behaviors elicits caregiver active participation behaviors. The results of this study suggest the intervention was an effective way to involve family caregivers as active participants in the designing of care for their loved one. Findings also suggest that hospice staff would benefit from education and training on best practices for communicating with caregivers in the team meeting setting.  相似文献

A prospective epidemiologic study was conducted in two units (140 beds and 57 nursing assistants) of a nursing home to demonstrate the efficacy of an ergonomic intervention strategy to reduce back stress to nursing personnel. The total programme involved the following: determining patient handling tasks perceived to be most stressful by the nursing assistants (NAs); performing an ergonomic evaluation of these tasks; and conducting a laboratory study to select patient transferring devices perceived to produce less physical stress than existing manual patient-handling methods. The intervention phase included training NAs in the use of these devices, modifying toilets and shower rooms, and applying techniques to patient care. Immediately after completing the intervention programme, a post-intervention analysis (which lasted eight months in unit 1 and four months in unit 2) was performed.

A biomechanical evaluation of the physical demands required to perform stressful patient-handling tasks showed that the mean compressive force on the L5/S1 disc, the mean hand force required to make a transfer, and the strength requirements (expressed as percentage female population capable) were 1964?N, 122?N, and 83% after intervention as compared to 4751?N, 312?N, and 41% before intervention. Subjectively, the mean rating of perceived exertion was less than ‘very light’ after intervention as compared to between ‘somewhat hard’ and ‘hard’ before intervention. Overall, the mean acceptability rates for the walking belt and the mechanical hoist were 81% and 87% for patient transfers. The incidence rate for back injuries prior to the intervention, 83 per 200 000 work-hours, decreased to 47 per 200 000 work-hours after the intervention. There were no injuries resulting in lost or restricted work days during the last four months of the post-intervention. It is concluded that an appropriate ergonomic intervention programme offers great promise in reducing physical stress and risk of low-back pain to nursing personnel. However, large-scale studies in different nursing homes are needed to confirm the above findings.  相似文献

This study uses the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) values of RFID to predict the position of picking staff for warehouse management. A proposed feature selection-based back-propagation (BP) neural network that uses an artificial immune system (AIS) (FSBP-AIS) to determine the connecting weights of a neural network learns the relationship between the RSSI values and the position of the picking staff. In addition, the proposed FSBP-AIS is able to determine the representative features, or inputs, during training. Once a picking staff's position is known, this information is used to plan the picking route for picking staff if a new order arrives. The computational results indicate that the proposed FSBP-AIS can provide better predictions than a traditional BP neural network, BP neural network with stepwise regression to determine the important inputs, and regression method.  相似文献

This paper analyses relations between leaders' and co-workers' competence, IT-levels and organizational aspects within ten small business enterprises in Sweden. Data from questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were used for statistical data analyses organized in four steps. A result is that IT-levels and change competence go together with higher levels of educational investment, and that companies with high levels on these aspects also tend to have a proneness for joining change programs. Another finding is that the higher the rate of IT in a company, the lower the incidence of musculoskeletal problems among employees. The study shows that an increase in leader change competence, a flat organization, a higher leader than co-worker change competence, and an ongoing program contribute significantly to profit per capita at the company level. The analysis model seems to give a good integration of the results, but underlying mechanisms must be dealt with in future research.  相似文献

Railway controllers play a pivotal role in service recovery of normal rail system operations when incidents and accidents occur. Those in this position must have sufficient competence to overcome task difficulties caused by accident uncertainties. This study adopts Taiwan's railway system as a case study to diagnose railway-controller-perceived competence when facing diverse tasks during incidents and accidents that are derived from a proposed conceptual model. Railway-controller-perceived competence is measured using the Rasch model. Analytical results indicate that working with an external rescue agency handling a rescue operation, explanations to the public, and communication with an external rescue agency are considered the most troublesome tasks. Additionally, railway-controller-perceived competence differs based on the work experience. This information will prove useful for rail system operators and government regulators when designing and regulating railway controller competence management systems.

Statement of Relevance: This study presents a systematic approach for examining the gap between railway-controller-perceived competence and task difficulties associated with incidents and accidents. The relevance of findings encompasses the effects of transportation ergonomics and railway issues on the problem-solving competence and decision-making skills of railway controllers, and the competence management system.  相似文献

In the present study, a 5-week tablet-based word reading efficiency game intervention (Reading Turbo) was integrated in a comprehensive phonics-based reading curriculum. The aims of the study were to examine whether the game would advance children's word reading efficiency, and to determine the extent to which pre-reading capacities and in-game mechanisms could explain individual variation in responsiveness to the game. To do so, word reading efficiency scores of first graders in an intervention group (n = 132) and a control group that continued with the usual reading curriculum (n = 118) were compared prior to, directly after, and 2 months after the 5-week intervention period. Individual variation in responsiveness was examined by relating reading precursors (i.e., phonological awareness, letter efficiency, rapid automatized naming (RAN), and verbal working memory) measured at the onset of the intervention, and in-game accuracy and efficiency to word reading efficiency outcomes in untrained words. Results indicated that playing the word reading game significantly enhanced first graders' word reading efficiency directly after the intervention, but the effect was no longer significant 2 months after the intervention. With respect to individual variation in game responsiveness, it was found that phonological awareness, letter efficiency, and verbal working memory predicted responsiveness to the game via in-game accuracy. In addition, phonological awareness and RAN predicted responsiveness to the game via in-game efficiency, and letter efficiency and verbal working memory were directly related to responsiveness. The effectiveness of the word reading game thus differentiated between children with higher and lower pre-reading capacities, and operated via in-game child affordances.  相似文献

This study aims to answer how rational task allocation between the nursing staff and the support service provider in the healthcare context can increase the positive outcome of the work system. The work system model is used as a theoretical framework, with resilience and cost as complementary concepts. This qualitative case study used action research and participatory design to develop the work system with the interplay of two parallel personnel groups in the healthcare environment. First, the case of an ongoing relationship between the target organization's nursing staff and in‐house logistics and material supply services was studied. The development process resulted in a variety of practical ideas to improve the cooperation between the personnel groups. In the second case, a prospective relationship between the nursing staff and an external logistics service provider was examined. This research's conceptual results identify the main characteristics of rational support services as comprehensive, resilient, reliable, and easily accessible.  相似文献

Abstract

High quality performance is an aspiration of all professions and processes of quality assurance are normally carefully defined. These include the design of educational programmes to ensure that graduates achieve a high standard of performance and are able to compete in the world market and meet consumers' needs; a method of evaluating the relevance and standard of that education; and a means of ensuring continuing competence in practice. The diversity of paths taken to become an ergonomist offers a challenge to ergonomics societies to define effective and equitable approaches to quality assurance. This paper advocates the definition of core ergonomics competencies as a linking resource for educational planning, accreditation processes and certification procedures. Such an approach could provide the basis for harmonization in the recognition of ergonomists with varying educational backgrounds, expertise and experience.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a transfer technique education programme (TT) alone or in combination with physical fitness training (TTPT) compared with a control group, who followed their usual routine. Eleven clinical hospital wards were cluster randomised to either intervention (six wards) or to control (five wards). The intervention cluster was individually randomised to TT (55 nurses) and TTPT (50 nurses), control (76 nurses). The transfer technique programme was a 4-d course of train-the-trainers to teach transfer technique to their colleagues. The physical training consisted of supervised physical fitness training 1 h twice per week for 8 weeks. Implementing transfer technique alone or in combination with physical fitness training among a hospital nursing staff did not, when compared to a control group, show any statistical differences according to self-reported low back pain (LBP), pain level, disability and sick leave at a 12-month follow-up. However, the individual randomised intervention subgroup (transfer technique/physical training) significantly improved the LBP-disability (p = 0.001). Although weakened by a high withdrawal rate, teaching transfer technique to nurses in a hospital setting needs to be thoroughly considered. Other priorities such as physical training may be taken into consideration. The current study supports the findings of other studies that introducing transfer technique alone has no effect in targeting LBP. However, physical training seems to have an influence in minimising the LBP consequences and may be important in the discussion of how to prevent LBP or the recurrence of LBP among nursing personnel.  相似文献

To study cognitive processes, such as computer program comprehension, researchers often use verbal protocols to collect a process trace. However, the difficulty of collecting and analysing verbal protocol data can discourage even the most resolute researcher. Therefore, alternatives to verbal protocols, such as responses to comprehension questions, are undeniably attractive. Unfortunately, there is little methodological research to justify the use of most alternative methods. The current study compares the use of verbal protocol data with responses to comprehension questions as measures of comprehension process. According to results from the protocol analysis data, programmers used significantly different comprehension processes to understand computer programs in two phases of an experiment. If previous research was correct, then programmers' responses to different types of comprehension questions should reflect the differences in comprehension process. Unfortunately, comprehension process was not reflected in the responses to the questions. Hence, this research confirms that process tracing methods, such as verbal protocols, are a more appropriate method by which to investigate program comprehension processes.  相似文献

This study examined the usefulness of a computerized developmental assessment tool, designed to provide investigative interviewers with knowledge about children's understanding of spatial, temporal, numerical, and color terms that may be relevant to the forensic setting. Specifically, the effect of the computer program (compared to a standard verbal and no assessment) was examined on 4- to 5-year-old children's recall of an independent event and their enjoyment of the interview process. In addition, children's performance on the computerized and verbal developmental assessment was compared with their performance when recalling the independent event. Overall, the children rated the assessment conducted on computer more favorably than the verbal assessment. Further, the verbal assessment elicited responses that were more consistent with their responses about the event than the computerized assessment. However, there was no difference in the accuracy and detail of children's responses about the independent event, irrespective of whether the children received the computerized or verbal assessment, or no assessment. Directions for future research are discussed.  相似文献

Many teachers have little opportunity to share and discuss their practice in the course of a normal school day beyond chance meetings in the staff room. Such a lack of opportunity can leave many teachers feeling isolated. However, online resources are continuously providing teachers with greater opportunities to engage with other teachers. This research studied early-adopting New Zealand science teachers' perceptions and integration of one such online resource, a wiki, for professional development. The wiki was developed to support teacher portfolios consisting of mediums called Content Representations (CoRes) and Pedagogical and Professional-experience Repertoires (PaP-eRs). Initial interviews were conducted with six teachers and were followed by case studies of three of these teachers. Data included pre/post interviews, field notes from feedback on observations, and teachers' use of the wiki. Findings discuss important factors organised around three themes in relation to teacher perceptions and engagement in knowledge sharing on a wiki: technology competence, technology utility, and technology resourcing.  相似文献
