The variation and fate of four endocrine‐disrupting compounds (EDCs) composed of 4‐n‐nonylphenol (4‐n‐NP), bisphenol A (BPA), 17β‐estradiol (E2) and 17α‐ethinylestradiol (EE2) were investigated along treatment units in a sewage treatment plant (STP), China with anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic activated sludge processes. The mean concentrations were 64.8 ng/L (E2), 115.3 ng/L (4‐n‐NP), 171.5 ng/L (EE2), and 920.7 ng/L (BPA) in the influents, and 22.8 ng/L (E2), 50.9 ng/L (4‐n‐NP), 49.9 ng/L (EE2), and 84.3 ng/L (BPA) in the effluents. The biological treatment was more effective in removing NP, BPA and E2 from the aqueous phase than the primary treatment, while the latter could effectively remove EE2. Their possible removal mechanisms during the biological treatment with activated sludge were further explored through spiked batch experiments under three oxygen‐supplying conditions (anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic). The batch experiments showed that 4‐n‐NP, E2 and BPA were removed from the aqueous phase through biodegradation. The combination of sludge sorption and biodegradation accounted for the removal of EE2. Anoxic activated sludge showed the most rapid degradation of 4‐n‐NP, while E2 could be removed most effectively by aerobic activated sludge, and sludge sorption had a remarkable effect on its removal within the initial 15 min of the experiments under three oxygen‐supplying conditions.  相似文献

The microbiological quality of water is currently assessed by search for fecal bacteria indicators. There is, however, a body of knowledge demonstrating that bacterial indicators are less resistant to environmental factors than human pathogenic viruses and therefore underestimate the viral risk. As river water is often used as a resource for drinking water production, it is particularly important to obtain a valid estimation of the health hazard, including specific viral risk. This work was conducted to compare the survival of infectious Poliovirus-1 used as a pathogenic virus model to the persistence of, on the one hand, thermotolerant coliforms commonly used as indicators and on the other hand, to somatic coliphages and Poliovirus-1 genome considered as potential indicators. We studied the behavior of infectious Poliovirus-1 and the three (potential) indicators of viral contamination in river water at three different temperatures (4 degrees C,18 degrees C and 25 degrees C). This experiment was performed twice with river water sampled at two different periods, once in winter and once in summer. Our results showed that the survival of thermotolerant coliforms can be 1.5-fold lower than infectious Poliovirus-1. In contrast, under all our experimental conditions, somatic coliphages and Poliovirus-1 genome persisted longer than infectious Poliovirus-1, surviving, respectively, 2-6-fold and about 2-fold longer than infectious Poliovirus-1. According to our results exclusively based on survival capacity, somatic coliphages and viral genome, unlike thermotolerant coliforms appear to be better indicators of viral contamination in river water. Moreover, the disappearance of viral genome is well-correlated to that one of infectious virus irrespective of the conditions tested.  相似文献

Enterobacteria disposed of in natural waters survive for a long time. Environmental engineers need to know their survival kinetics, for the determination of which there are at present various formulae. These, however, are of limited validity: experience has shown that the results of calculations of this type may lack predictive accuracy. A parameter, which has not been adequately taken into account up to now, is the effect of the dilution of sewage on bacterial survival kinetics. The investigation of the effect of dilution forms the object of the present research, with the aim of demonstrating the importance of this parameter to the accuracy of the results of the relevant calculations.  相似文献

Faecal coliform deposition rates with estuary type suspended solids have been examined in laboratory experiments. Faecal coliform deposition rates in estuary water increased proportionately with suspended solids concentration, whereas faecal coliform deposition rates in effluent/seawater mixture showed no correlation with suspended solids concentration.

Deposition of estuary water suspended solids showed correlation with time, whereas deposition of effluent suspended solids showed no correlation with time. The adsorption efficiency experiments suggested immediate adsorption of some of the faecal coliforms onto both types of suspended solids and no difference in adsorption potential.

Therefore, it appears that the contrasting effects on faecal coliform deposition can be attributed to the different deposition potential of each type of suspended solids and not to the adsorption process.  相似文献

A pre-coagulation and bio-filtration process for advanced treatment of sewage was developed and experimentally discussed with a pilot plant. The bio-filtration unit consists of a denitrification filter, a nitrification filter with side stream to the denitrification filter, and a polishing filter with anoxic and aerobic parts. Concentrations of SS, T-COD(Cr), T-carbonaceous BOD, T-N and T-P in the effluent were stably kept at less than 3, 20, 5mg/L, 2mg N/L and 0.2mg P/L, respectively, and transparency at higher than 100 cm, under total hydraulic retention time of 3.2h in the bio-filtration parts (filter-bed). ORP in an anoxic tank before a nitrification tank should be at a low level of less than -120 mV to keep remaining NO(-)(x) - N less than 1mg N/L, but must be maintained at a level higher than -150 mV. The maximum nitrogen-loading rate under a water temperature of 18 degrees C should be less than 0.25 kg N/(m(3)-filter-bed.d). Concentrations of microorganisms kept in the reactors were as high as 4000-5000 mg COD/L-filter-bed. Denitrification activity of 0.4 or 0.7 kg N/(m(3)-filter-bed.d), and nitrification activity of 0.3 kg N/(m(3)-filter-bed.d) were obtained, respectively, under a water temperature of about 18 degrees C. Backwashing in each tank as well as methanol addition and aeration in the polishing filter were operated successfully by the automatic control systems. These results proved that this process is applicable to advanced treatment of sewage with easy maintenance.  相似文献
