Microwaves are playing an ever-increasing role in the communications field. Over 30,000 route miles are already being used in the United States by communication companies, industrial and transportation concerns and the military agencies. Bell System microwave facilities alone provide more than 6,500,000 miles of telephone circuits and 48,000 miles of television channels. Thousands of miles of additional microwave facilities are either under construction or in the planning state. In addition to voice and television transmission, microwave systems are being used for services such as teletype, telemetering and remote control. The military agencies are installing an increasing amount of microwave equipment for national defense. With such expansion in the uses of microwave, those of us who are responsible for the design and installation of these systems must keep abreast of the art, in order that new systems may contain the latest advances, resulting in improved quality, greater dependability and lower cost.  相似文献

Computer games and virtual reality are radically altering the way the military prepares for war. Over the last three decades, sophisticated computer modeling and graphics, faster processor speeds, and advances in artificial intelligence have gone into building simulation technology that can create a reality that stops just short of war. In turn, the use of simulators has helped bring about a sea change in military training. Troops today practice exhaustively, taught by simulators not only how to use their ever more complex equipment, but also how to work in teams, move efficiently through a battlespace, and negotiate a wide range of conflicts, which may or may not involve military force. Simulation also gives military and political leaders insight into potential conflicts. Commanders can now recreate on computer the complex choreography of thousands of soldiers, weapons, vehicles, and aircraft moving across a battlefield that extends over thousands of square kilometers. In this way, military decision-makers can test strategic options before launching a campaign in earnest. They can also assess the performance of new weapons systems under consideration  相似文献

A computer simulation model, designed specifically for the analysis and evaluation of military mobile radio communication systems in the tactical environment is discussed. The algorithms and performance models used in the simulation model are briefly described, while statistical characteristics are derived analytically for a simplified scenario. Typical computer-generated histograms and distribution functions are presented for the more complex scenarios. The computer simulation model is shown to be an effective design tool for many different applications.  相似文献

The United States military has been an effective proponent of digital imaging and teleradiology. A digital imaging network that eliminates the use of X-ray film makes military medicine requirements simpler. X-ray film requirements include storage of new, unexposed films, storage and use of chemicals and water for processing, and disposal of chemicals. In some deployed situations, the chemical discharge needs to be collected and shipped out of the area. Therefore, the ability to implement electronic imaging and eliminate or greatly reduce the dependence on film, chemicals, and water are intrinsically important to military medicine. In December 1995, the United States government began deployment of 20,000 United States troops to Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of NATO's peacekeeping implementation force (IFOR) operation. A full complement of military medical support facilities was established in Bosnia. An army base in Hungary was the location from which the deployment was staged. The project to deploy telemedicine and teleradiology capabilities to the medical treatment facilities (MTF) in Bosnia and Hungary became known as PrimeTime III. This paper deals with the deployable teleradiology (DEPRAD) system that was installed by the Imaging Science and Information Systems (ISIS) Center, Department of Radiology, Georgetown Medical Center, Washington, DC, at a number of facilities to implement filmless radiology and teleradiology services in support of PrimeTime III  相似文献

The Department of Defense currently operates about 30 000 aircraft, the largest most varied single fleet of aircraft of those using the National Aviation System (NAS). For this and other important reasons discussed herein, military participation in evolving an efficient and effective NAS forces consideration of a number of important issues by the developers and operators of any future Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. These issues range from those critical aspects of national security and the sovereignty of our air space, through major economic factors in equipping military aircraft and facilities for operation in the NAS, to the necessity for optimizing safety and using efficiently the air space of the world. This paper discusses the roles of the military, both as a user and operator of ATC systems and as a developer of ATC related systems and equipments. The different areas of the NAS in which interfaces exist between the civil and military are defined. These areas include operations, organizational interfaces, and equipment and facility interfaces and in many cases are covered by formal agreements. By way of illustration, two typical military flights are used to show the combined interaction of a military aircraft with both civil and military ground facilities. Communications, navigation, and surveillance requirements are discussed with respect to the various phases of the example flights. An indication of the future ground systems (military and civil) with which military aircraft might interact emphasizes the heavy burden placed on the airborne electronics systems. The paper finally suggests possible approaches that can be considered to ensure that the airborne equipment will not only be compatible with the various military, FAA, and ICAO ground environments in which the aircraft will function, but will also provide some basis for standardization and for efficient spectrum utilization.  相似文献

军事专业知识在军事决策系统、军事智能教学系统、军事知识查询系统等高技术产品中具有重要的作用。知识库是机器智能的重要来源,所以有必要建立一个完善、协调、具有良好联通性的大型军事知识库,而大量实践证明计算机真正具有智能不仅需要大型知识库,而且更需要知识间广泛的联通。本文主要讨论军事概念联通。所谓概念联通是指通过关系链或属性或属性值将两个概念联系起来的过程。概念联通的目的之一就是通过概念联通帮助发现不同知识源的知识之间的不一致性,尽可能保证所获取知识的完备性和精确性,建立一个大型的军事专业知识库。  相似文献
