The technological advantages of reducing melts are readily apparent. Such melts can dissolve certain acidic oxides (Si, Mo,
W, Ti), and they reduce not only the oxides dissolved in the melt (ferrates, ferrites), but also those on the surface of the
steel. A reaction involving sodium hydride completely reduces oxides of iron, nickel, cobalt, and copper and partially reduces
oxides of chromium, manganese, vanadium, and titanium. Pickling schemes that have been developed reduce acid consumption and
metal loss during pickling and prevent over-pickling of the surface. The technology as a whole is particularly suited for
metallurgical plants that produce a wide range of steels.

Niobium, like titanium and vanadium, forms superhard MC carbides that remain relatively pure in technical alloys on account of their low solubility for other metallic alloying elements. However, because they have a greater hardness than the precipitated chromium carbides commonly used in wear‐resistant alloys, they are suitable as alternative hard phases. This contribution deals with new wear‐resistant steels and casting alloys containing niobium carbide. These include a secondary hardening hardfacing alloy, a composite casting alloy for wear applications at elevated temperatures, a white cast iron as well as two variants of a corrosion‐resistant cold‐work tool steel produced by melt metallurgy and by powder metallurgy. A heat‐resistant casting alloy is also discussed. Based on equilibrium calculations the microstructures developing during production of the alloys are analysed, and the results are discussed with respect to important properties such as abrasive wear and corrosion resistance. 相似文献

Rare earth-based AB5-type hydrogen storage alloys as catalysts of hydrogen-diffusion electrodes for hydrogen absorption and oxidation reactions in alkaline fuel cells were investigated. It is demonstrated that the metahydride hydrogen-diffusion electrodes could be charged by hydrogen gas and electrochemically discharged at the same time to retain a stable oxidation potential for a long period. The catalytic activities and stability are almost comparable with a Pt catalyst on the active carbon. Further improvement of performances is expected via reduction of catalyst size into nanometers. 相似文献
