Titanium/dicalcium silicate composite coatings with different ratios (weight ratios as Ca2SiO4: Ti = 3:7, 5:5, 7:3) were prepared by plasma spraying. Effects of titanium addition on coating properties, such as bonding strength, flexural modulus, and dissolution in simulated physiological environment, were studied. Results showed that the bonding strength between coating and Ti-6Al-4V substrate increased with increase of titanium content in the composite coatings. It was explained by the narrowed dissimilarity of thermal expansion coefficients between the coatings and substrates. Degradation of mechanical properties after immersion in simulated body fluid was also studied. The dissolution of dicalcium silicate in the composite coatings resulted in the decrease of flexural strength and flexural modulus of the coatings in the simulated physiological environment. The higher titanium content in the composite coatings, the stabler are the composite coatings in the physiological environment.  相似文献

In this study, hydroxyapatite (HA) based composite films were successfully syntheses on the β-type Ti29Nb13Ta4.6Zr (TNTZ). The solutionized TNTZ substrates coated with HA and HA/Titania (TiO2) bioactive composite coatings by sol-gel method under various sintering parameters related to sintering temperatures and heating ramp rates. Microstructural observations of the coatings revealed that apatite was formed on the substrates. The hardness values of the coatings increase with increasing both the sintering temperature and the TiO2 concentration in the coatings layer. However, it was found that the heating ramp rate of the sintering was not affecting the hardness values so much. Also, the hardness values of the HA/TiO2 composite coatings at all sintering temperatures were higher than only HA coated TNTZ samples due to the existence TiO2 phases in the HA matrix. Results indicating that the doping of HA with TiO2, improve the physical consistency between the coating layer and the substrates and provide a better inter-particle bonding due to the existence TiO2 phases in the HA.  相似文献

NiTi alloy is used as biomaterial due to its unique properties, but the high content of Ni (about 50 at.%) in biomedical NiTi is of concern. Hydroxyapatite/titania composite coating was directly electrodeposited on the surface of NiTi alloy. The coated samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, bonding strength test, polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Results showed that addition of TiO2 to the electrolyte changed the morphology of hydroxyapatite from thin flake-flower-like crystals to needle-flower-like crystals, and the coating was much denser. Besides, hydroxyapatite crystal grains in the coating were preferentially arranged in the [001] direction, which was perpendicular to the surface of NiTi alloy. The addition of TiO2 improved the bonding strength between the coating and the substrate. Corrosion resistance of NiTi in the simulated body fluid at 37 °C was significantly improved by more than 50 times by electrodeposition of the hydroxyapatite/titania composite coating.  相似文献

Hydroxyapatite coatings were plasma sprayed on the Ti6A14V substrate with and without an intermediate ZrO2 layer; meanwhile the temperatures of substrates were varied at 90, 140, and 200 °C. The coatings were subjected to the standard adhesion test per ASTM C633-79. The purpose of the investigation was to study the effects of those processing variables on the bonding strength and failure behavior of the system. It is found that the bonding strengths of HA/ZrO2 and HA coatings generally decrease with increasing substrate temperature, except for the HA/ZrO2 coating deposited at 200 °C. The rationale of the results is attributed to the residual stress reported in the literature. Introducing ZrO2 bond coat is found to significantly promote the bonding strength of HA coating. The possible strengthening mechanism is the rougher surface of ZrO2 bond coat and the higher toughness of ZrO2, which provide the mechanical strengthening effects. The slightly denser HA in 200 °C deposited HA coating cannot explain the high bonding strength of the HA/ZrO2 coating, nor the mechanical strengthening effect of ZrO2 intermediate layer should apply. It is believed that a stronger diffusion bonding is formed at the interface of HA and ZrO2, which increases the bonding between them chemically. The bonding strengths of HA/ZrO2 and HA coatings are correlated with the area fraction of adhesive failure of the coatings. The correlation explains the findings in this study.  相似文献

Hydroxyapatite coatings suffer from poor mechanical properties like fretting fatigue, toughness and abrasive wear resistance. These properties can be enhanced by incorporation of secondary ceramic and metallic reinforcements in HA. An attempt has been made to deposit HA and HA reinforced with 10 wt.% (80Al2O3-20TiO2) by plasma spray process on Ti6Al4V substrate. These coatings have been characterized using SEM/EDAX, XRD and FTIR spectroscopy. Corrosion studies have been done in SBF solution. Bio compatibility study is not included in this work. Reinforcement has enhanced the tensile strength. There is marginal improvement in microhardness and surface roughness with reinforcement. Both pure and reinforced coatings show superior resistance against corrosion in simulated body fluid.  相似文献

In this study, TiO2-based coatings containing Ca and P ions were prepared on titanium alloy surfaces by microarc oxidation (MAO). After soaking in aqueous NaOH solution and subsequent heat treatment at 700 and 800 °C, calcium titanate/titania bioceramic composite (CTBC) coatings were obtained. The results show that the outer layers (0–1.5 μm) of the CTBC coatings are mainly composed of Ca, Ti, O and Na constituents with a uniform distributions with increasing the depth near the surfaces. The surface phase compositions of the CTBC coating formed at 700 °C are anatase, rutile and CaTi21O38 phases, as well as a few CaTiO3, while those of the CTBC coating formed at 800 °C are anatase, rutile and CaTiO3. When incubated in a simulated body fluid (SBF), apatite was deposited on the CTBC coatings probably via formation of hydroxyl functionalized surface complexes on the CTBC coating surfaces by ionic exchanges between (Ca2+, Na+) ions of the CTBC coatings and H3O+ ions in the SBF. The CTBC coating formed at 800 °C seems to facilitate the deposition of Ca and P probably due to the good crystallographic match between perovskite CaTiO3 and HA on specific crystal planes.  相似文献

Titanium (Ti) and hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings have been prepared via air (APS) and vacuum plasma spraying (VPS), and then their composition, structure, bonding strength and bioactivity were examined. The results obtained reveal that in APS process many of Ti were oxidized, but in VPS the oxidization was avoided. VPS Ti coating possesses better bonding condition than APS Ti coating. As for HA coating, higher crystallinity has been obtained while the coating was deposited by VPS as compared with APS. The simulated body fluid (SBF) tests show that both of APS and VPS HA coatings possess good bioactivity. As compared with APS, VPS is recommended as a better method to deposit Ti and HA coatings that can be applied as hard tissue replacement implants.  相似文献

The use of strontium-containing hydroxyapatite (Sr-HA) as a biomaterial has been reported recently. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that Sr-HA promotes osteoblast response and stimulates new bone formation. In order to extend its usage to major load-bearing applications, such as artificial hip replacement, it has been proposed that the material could be used in the form of a coating on implant surfaces. This paper reports a preliminary study of biocompatibility of plasma sprayed Sr-HA coatings on a metallic substrate. Coatings of Sr-HA containing 10 mol% Sr2+ was produced on titanium alloy substrates. The coating exhibited good bonding with the substrate. The bioactivity of Sr-HA coating was evaluated in vitro by immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF). After immersion in SBF, Sr-HA coating exhibited great ability to induce apatite precipitation on its surface. The possible effects of cell-materials interactions of Sr-HA coating were examined by culturing osteoprecursor cells (OPC1) on coating surfaces. The effect of Sr-HA was also compared to a hydroxyapatite (HA) coating, which is widely used in orthopedics and dentistry. The results indicated that Sr-HA coating had good biocompatibility with human osteoblasts. OPC1 cells survived and proliferated well on the surface of coating. Sr-HA coating promoted OPC1 cells attachment, and more local contacts were produced on the surface. The presence of Sr stimulated OPC1 cell differentiation and ALP expression. No deleterious effect on ECM formation and mineralization was found with Sr-HA coating. The results indicated that Sr-HA coating had good mechanical properties and bioactivity in vitro.  相似文献

The main aim of this study is to evaluate corrosion and biocompatibility behavior of thermal spray hydroxyapatite (HA) and hydroxyapatite/titania bond (HA/TiO2)-coated 316L stainless steel (316L SS). In HA/TiO2 coatings, TiO2 was used as a bond coat between HA top coat and 316L SS substrate. The coatings were characterized by x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy, and corrosion resistance determined for the uncoated substrate and the two coatings. The biological behavior was investigated by the cell culture studies using osteosarcoma cell line KHOS-NP (R-970-5). The corrosion resistance of the steel was found to increase after the deposition of the HA and HA/TiO2 bond coatings. Both HA, as well as, HA/TiO2 coatings exhibit excellent bond strength of 49 and 47?MPa, respectively. The cell culture studies showed that HA-coated 316L SS specimens appeared more biocompatible than the uncoated and HA/TiO2-coated 316L SS specimens.  相似文献

Hydroxyapatite (HA)–titania (TiO2) composite coatings prepared on Ti6Al4V alloy surface can combine the excellent mechanical property of the alloy substrate and the good biocompatibility of the coating material. In this paper, HA–TiO2 composite coatings were deposited on Ti6Al4V substrates using suspension plasma spray (SPS). X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier infrared absorption spectrometry and friction tests were used to analyze the microstructure and tribological properties of the obtained coatings. The results showed that the spray distance had an important influence on coating microstructure and tribological performance. The amount of decomposition phases decreased as the spray distance increased. The increase in spray distance from 80 to 110 mm improved the crystalline HA content and decreased the wear performance of the SPS coatings. In addition, the spray distance had a big effect on the coating morphology due to different substrate temperature resulting from different spray distance. Furthermore, a significant presence of OH? and CO3 2? was observed, which was favorable for the biomedical applications.  相似文献

Nanostructured titania (TiO2) coatings were produced by high-velocity oxyfuel (HVOF) spraying. They were engineered as a possible candidate to replace hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings produced by thermal spray on implants. The HVOF sprayed nanostructured titania coatings exhibited mechanical properties, such as hardness and bond strength, much superior to those of HA thermal spray coatings. In addition to these characteristics, the surface of the nanostructured coatings exhibited regions with nanotextured features originating from the semimolten nanostructured feedstock particles. It is hypothesized that these regions may enhance osteoblast adhesion on the coating by creating a better interaction with adhesion proteins, such as fibronectin, which exhibit dimensions in the order of nanometers. Preliminary osteoblast cell culture demonstrated that this type of HVOF sprayed nanostructured titania coating supported osteoblast cell growth and did not negatively affect cell viability. Fluoridated hydroxyapatite (FHA) coatings were prepared on a Ti substrate using a suspension plasma spraying technique. The crystalline phases and chemical compositions of the coatings were characterized using x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The analysis confirmed that the coating consisted of an FHA phase. The corrosion behavior in simulated body fluid was studied using potentiodynamic polarization tests, and the results indicated that the FHA coating greatly enhanced the corrosion resistance of the Ti substrate. The chemical stability of the FHA coatings was assessed by evaluating the release of Ca2+ ions. The results indicated that the substitution of fluorine into the hydroxyapatite (HA) structure had a positive effect on the dissolution resistance of the HA. The antibacterial activity was investigated using a surface-plating method; the results revealed that the antibacterial activity of the FHA coating was greater than that of the pure HA coatings. During cell culture tests, the FHA coating did not exhibit cytotoxicity toward the osteoblast cell line, and the cell proliferation was comparable with that of the HA coatings. The antibacterial activity and cell culture results suggested that the plasma-sprayed FHA coating possesses good antibacterial qualities, but is biocompatible with osteoblasts. The promising features of the FHA coating render it suitable for orthopedic and dental applications.  相似文献

A novel electroplating method has been developed to produce nanocrystalline metal-matrix nano-structured composite coatings. A small amount of transparent TiO2 sol was added into the traditional electroplating Ni solution, leading to the formation of nanocrystalline Ni-TiO2 composite coatings. These coatings have a smooth surface. The Ni nodules changed from traditional pyramid-like shape to spherical shape. The grain size of Ni was also significantly reduced to the level of 50 nm. It was found that the amorphous anatase TiO2 nano-particles (∼ 10 nm) were highly dispersed in the coating matrix. The microhardness was significantly increased from 320 HV100 of the traditional Ni coating to 430 HV100 of the novel composite coating with 3.26 wt.% TiO2. Correspondingly, the wear resistance of the composite coating was improved by ∼ 50%.  相似文献

To obtain the composite with a function of corrosion resistance in seawater and microbial environment, we apply low toxic electrolyte which contained Cr3+ instead of Cr6+ as a chromium source to produce Ni-P-Cr/TiO2, Ni-P-Cr/ZrO2 nanocomposite coatings, and Ni-P-Cr/TiO2 microcomposite coating using direct current (DC) electrodeposits technique. The surface morphology, texture, and composition of the composite coatings are characterized by SEM, XRD, and EDX measurements, respectively. The corrosion behavior of the composite coatings is evaluated by polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results with more positive-shifting Ecorr, lowest icorr, and relatively high value of polarization resistance (Rp) proved that compared with other composite coatings, Ni-P-Cr/TiO2 nanocomposite coating with its better passive film and unique antibacterial activity caused by TiO2 nanoparticles incorporated, displayed excellent antibacterial and corrosion resistance property, consistent to the phenomenon that corrosion of this nanocomposite coating in SRB culture medium is not observed.  相似文献

Deposition of nanocrystalline TiO2 coating at low temperature is becoming more attractive due to the possibility for continuous roll production of the coating for assembly lines of dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) at a low cost. In this study, porous nano-TiO2 coating was deposited by vacuum cold spraying (VCS) at room temperature on a conducting glass substrate using commercial P25 nanocrystalline TiO2 powder. The microstructure of TiO2 coating was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and nitrogen adsorption test. A commercial dye (N719) was adsorbed on the surface of TiO2 particles within the coating to assemble a DSC. The cell performance was evaluated by employing simulated solar light at an intensity of 100 mW/cm2. The results showed that TiO2 coating was deposited by the agglomerates of nano-TiO2 powders. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) test of the as-sprayed TiO2 coating yielded a porosity of 49% and an average pore size of 17 nm. The assembled solar cell yielded a short-circuit current density of 7.3 mA/cm2 and an energy conversion efficiency of 2.4%. The test results indicate that VCS was a promising method to deposit nanocrystalline TiO2 coatings at low temperature applied to DSCs. Nano-TiO2 modified rare earth composite coatings are prepared on 2024 aluminum alloy by brush plating. The composite coating is composed of mainly Ce(OH)3, Ce(OH)4, CeO2 and TiO2, with less cracks and lower porosity. The addition of nano-TiO2 enhances the adhesive strength of the rare earth coating to Al substrate, results in refined coating grains and increases the micro-hardness of the coating. The nano-TiO2 modification obviously improves the corrosion resistance of the rare earth coating. For the composite coating containing 2% TiO2, both the corrosion current density and the impedance are reduced by more than one order of magnitude in contrast to the values for the pure rare earth coating. The higher barrier ability and increased Ce3+ content in the Ce oxides may explain the increase of the corrosion resistance.  相似文献

Functionally graded carbon nanotubes/hydroxyapatite (CNTs/HA) composite coatings have been fabricated by laser cladding technique using CNTs/HA composite powders. As the feedstock for laser deposition, CNTs/HA composite powders were prepared by ball-milling different weight ratios (1%, 3% and 5%) of CNTs with HA powders. CNTs/HA composite coatings were fabricated with CNTs/HA composite powders and functionally graded coating was fabricated by sequentially depositing different CNTs/HA composite coatings on pure titanium. The phase composition, microstructure, micro-hardness, bonding strength and in vitro cellular responses of the composite coatings and the functionally graded composite coating were studied. The results show that the crystallinity of CNTs/HA composite coatings increased with increasing amount of CNTs in the powder mixture. The CNTs were dispersed homogeneously in the coatings to form an interconnected web and the cylinder graphic structure of CNTs was not changed after laser irradiation. Compared with pure HA coating, the maximum increase of the micro-hardness of CNTs/HA composite coatings was 46.8% and the micro-hardness of the functionally graded coating increased gradually through the thickness of this coating. Furthermore, the bonding strength of the functionally graded coating was nearly twice higher than that of pure HA coating. The in vitro cellular biocompatibility tests reveal that the functionally graded composite coating has comparable in vitro bioactivity with pure HA coating.  相似文献
