The CAMAC instrumentation system developed by the ESONE Committee of European laboratories has been endorsed by the U. S. AEC NIM Committee as a dataway system complementary to the NIM (Nuclear Instrument Module) system. CAMAC is described in a general way in this introductory paper which is followed by papers that discuss the system in greater detail. This paper is an updated version of the introductory paper that appeared in the April 1971 IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science.  相似文献

The peculiar characteristics of an autonomous CAMAC system based on the use of an Intel 8080 microprocessor are described. The system memory for program store, scratch work and data acquisition is contained in the autonomous CAMAC controller. Memory can be accessed in DMA mode with 24-bit data utilizing three bytes with a unique address. Suitable 3-byte floating point mathematical subroutines have been developed for general use and in particular for the requirements of the system. Details on hardware and software of the system are illustrated together with a brief mention of the generalizations.  相似文献

This article reviews the different types of pulse height analysers and presents their main advantages and disadvantages. The new Camac module offers a solution for hardware problems related with interfacing ADC's to most of the mini-computers. It regulates and derandomises the data flow to the processor, provides a hand-shaking mode between ADC and Central Processor, undertakes a maximum of interface tasks, facilitates the introduction of routing bits and allows the correlation of a number of converters. The design, construction and advantages of this instrument are described and illustrated by examples.  相似文献

MINUS3 is a general, multi-tasked data acquisition package operating on the ModComp IV/25 computers at both the 88"-Cyclotron and SuperHILAC. It currently can acquire data via three different channels: interrupt; serial DMA link; and remote slave units for histogram type data. Two additional acquisition paths, CAMAC (with programmable differential branch drivers) and MODACS (for multiple CPU linkages and control) are scheduled to be added in the near future. The package operates in a prioritized, time-available mode which permits it to dynamically adapt to microscopic data rate structures due to beam characteristics at different accelerators. Special hardware has been added to the graphics system to provide enhanced high-speed interactive capability. The program framework is also designed as a parasitic environment in which users may, in parallel, attach their own specialized and independent code.  相似文献

A smart CAMAC Crate Controller has been designed for use in Fermilab experiment E-705. Its distinctive feature is a hardwired list processor performing block transfers by executing lists of pre-stored CAMAC instructions. Data collected from the crate are sent to an external port: controllers organized in serial or parallel channels, transmit their data to buffer memories. Processing of interactive CAMAC operations, downloading of CAMAC instruction lists and supervision are provided by a Motorola 6809 micro-processor linked to the controller via the STD bus and to a host computer via an RS-232 serial interface.  相似文献

This report describes a system of electronics to be used with a proportional wire chamber hodoscope. The system, which uses CAMAC packaging and data handling philosophy, consists of octo (8 channel) wire signal amplifiers, octo 4-bit per wire latch modules, gate fanout modules, crate controllers, and two types of data processor-interface units to the SDS 9300 computer. The software design of an executive which performs general purpose data acquisition, monitoring, and control is presented. The executive runs on a memory-based mini or micro-computer and communicates with a disk-based computer where data analysis and display are done. The executive design stresses reliability and versatility, and has yielded software which can provide control and monitoring for widely different hardware systems.
