Driven by the intensified demand for energy storage systems with high‐power density and safety, all‐solid‐state zinc–air batteries have drawn extensive attention. However, the electrocatalyst active sites and the underlying mechanisms occurring in zinc–air batteries remain confusing due to the lack of in situ analytical techniques. In this work, the in situ observations, including X‐ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, of a heteroatom‐doped carbon air cathode are reported, in which the chemisorption of oxygen molecules and oxygen‐containing intermediates on the carbon material can be facilitated by the electron deficiency caused by heteroatom doping, thus improving the oxygen reaction activity for zinc–air batteries. As expected, solid‐state zinc–air batteries equipped with such air cathodes exhibit superior reversibility and durability. This work thus provides a profound understanding of the reaction principles of heteroatom‐doped carbon materials in zinc–air batteries.  相似文献

Metal phosphides and heteroatom‐doped carbons have been regarded as promising candidates as bifunctional catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, both have suffered from stability issues during repeated ORR and OER operations in zinc–air batteries (ZABs). Herein, this study reports a versatile cobalt‐based hybrid catalyst with a 1D structure by integrating the metal‐organic framework‐derived conversion approach and an in situ crosslinking method. Among them, the 1D hybrid catalyst composed of ultrasmall cobalt phosphide nanoparticles supported by nitrogen‐, sulfur‐, phosphorus‐doped carbon matrix shows remarkable bifunctional activity close to that of the benchmark precious‐metal catalysts along with an excellent durability in the full potential range covering both the OER and ORR. The overall overpotential of the rechargeable ZABs can be greatly reduced with this bifunctional hybrid catalyst as an air‐electrode, and the cycling stability outperforms the commercial Pt/C catalyst. It is revealed that the cobalt phosphide nanoparticles are in situ converted to cobalt oxide under the accelerated conditions during OER (and/or ORR) of the ZABs and reduces the anodic current applied to the carbon. This contributes to the stability of the carbon material and in maintaining the high initial catalytic properties of the hybrid catalyst.  相似文献

The key in designing efficient direct liquid fuel cells (DLFCs), which can offer some solutions to society's grand challenges associated with sustainability and energy future, currently lies in the development of cost‐effective electrocatalysts. Among the many types of fuel cells, direct hydrazine fuel cells (DHFCs) are of particular interest, especially due to their high theoretical cell voltages and clean emission. However, DHFCs currently use noble‐metal‐based electrocatalysts, and the scarcity and high cost of noble metals are hindering these fuel cells from finding large‐scale practical applications. In order to replace noble‐metal‐based electrocatalysts with sustainable ones and help DHFCs become widely usable, great efforts are being made to develop stable heteroatom (e.g., B, N, O, P and S)‐doped carbon electrocatalysts, the activities of which are comparable to, or better than, those of noble metals. Here, the recent research progress and the advancements made on the development of heteroatom‐doped carbon materials, their general properties, their electrocatalytic activities toward the HzOR, and their dopant‐ and structure‐related electrocatalytic properties for the HzOR are summarized. Perspectives on the different directions that the research endeavors in this field need to take in the future and the challenges associated with DHFCs are included.  相似文献

Rational design of cost‐effective, nonprecious metal‐based catalysts with desirable oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance is extremely important for future fuel cell commercialization, etc. Herein, a new type of ORR catalyst of Co‐N‐doped mesoporous carbon hollow sphere (Co‐N‐mC) was developed by pyrolysis from elaborately fabricated polystyrene@polydopamine‐Co precursors. The obtained catalysts with active Co sites distributed in highly graphitized mesoporous N‐doped carbon hollow spheres exhibited outstanding ORR activity with an onset potential of 0.940 V, a half‐wave potential of 0.851 V, and a small Tafel slope of 45 mV decade?1 in 0.1 m KOH solution, which was comparable to that of the Pt/C catalyst (20%, Alfa). More importantly, they showed superior durability with little current decline (less than 4%) in the chronoamperometric evaluation over 60 000 s. These features make the Co‐N‐mC one of the best nonprecious‐metal catalysts to date for ORR in alkaline condition.  相似文献

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries have been intensively concerned to fulfill the urgent demands of high capacity energy storage. One of the major unsolved issues is the complex diffusion of lithium polysulfide intermediates, which in combination with the subsequent paradox reactions is known as the shuttle effect. Nanocarbon with homogeneous nonpolar surface served as scaffolding materials in sulfur cathode basically cannot afford a sufficient binding and confining effect to maintain lithium polysulfides within the cathode. Herein, a systematical density functional theory calculation of various heteroatoms‐doped nanocarbon materials is conducted to elaborate the mechanism and guide the future screening and rational design of Li–S cathode for better performance. It is proved that the chemical modification using N or O dopant significantly enhances the interaction between the carbon hosts and the polysulfide guests via dipole–dipole electrostatic interaction and thereby effectively prevents shuttle of polysulfides, allowing high capacity and high coulombic efficiency. By contrast, the introduction of B, F, S, P, and Cl monodopants into carbon matrix is unsatisfactory. To achieve the strong‐couple effect toward Li2Sx, the principles for rational design of doped carbon scaffolds in Li–S batteries to achieve a strong electrostatic dipole–dipole interaction are proposed. An implicit volcano plot is obtained to describe the dependence of binding energies on electronegativity of dopants. Moreover, the codoping strategy is predicted to achieve even stronger interfacial interaction to trap lithium polysulfides.  相似文献

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are cornerstone reactions for many renewable energy technologies. Developing cheap yet durable substitutes of precious‐metal catalysts, especially the bifunctional electrocatalysts with high activity for both ORR and OER reactions and their streamlined coupling process, are highly desirable to reduce the processing cost and complexity of renewable energy systems. Here, a facile strategy is reported for synthesizing double‐shelled hybrid nanocages with outer shells of Co‐N‐doped graphitic carbon (Co‐NGC) and inner shells of N‐doped microporous carbon (NC) by templating against core–shell metal–organic frameworks. The double‐shelled NC@Co‐NGC nanocages well integrate the high activity of Co‐NGC shells into the robust NC hollow framework with enhanced diffusion kinetics, exhibiting superior electrocatalytic properties to Pt and RuO2 as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for ORR and OER, and hold a promise as efficient air electrode catalysts in Zn–air batteries. First‐principles calculations reveal that the high catalytic activities of Co‐NGC shells are due to the synergistic electron transfer and redistribution between the Co nanoparticles, the graphitic carbon, and the doped N species. Strong yet favorable adsorption of an OOH* intermediate on the high density of uncoordinated hollow‐site C atoms with respect to the Co lattice in the Co‐NGC structure is a vital rate‐determining step to achieve excellent bifunctional electrocatalytic activity.  相似文献

Iron–nitrogen–carbon materials (Fe–N–C) are known for their excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance. Unfortunately, they generally show a laggard oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, which results in a lethargic charging performance in rechargeable Zn–air batteries. Here porous S‐doped Fe–N–C nanosheets are innovatively synthesized utilizing a scalable FeCl3‐encapsulated‐porphyra precursor pyrolysis strategy. The obtained electrocatalyst exhibits ultrahigh ORR activity (E1/2 = 0.84 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode) and impressive OER performance (Ej = 10 = 1.64 V). The potential gap (ΔE = Ej = 10 ? E1/2) is 0.80 V, outperforming that of most highly active bifunctional electrocatalysts reported to date. Furthermore, the key role of S involved in the atomically dispersed Fe–Nx species on the enhanced ORR and OER activities is expounded for the first time by ultrasound‐assisted extraction of the exclusive S source (taurine) from porphyra. Moreover, the assembled rechargeable Zn–air battery comprising this bifunctional electrocatalyst exhibits higher power density (225.1 mW cm?2) and lower charging–discharging overpotential (1.00 V, 100 mA cm?2 compared to Pt/C + RuO2 catalyst). The design strategy can expand the utilization of earth‐abundant biomaterial‐derived catalysts, and the mechanism investigations of S doping on the structure–activity relationship can inspire the progress of other functional electrocatalysts.  相似文献

Metal–organic framework (MOF) composites have recently been considered as promising precursors to derive advanced metal/carbon‐based materials for various energy‐related applications. Here, a dual‐MOF‐assisted pyrolysis approach is developed to synthesize Co–Fe alloy@N‐doped carbon hollow spheres. Novel core–shell architectures consisting of polystyrene cores and Co‐based MOF composite shells encapsulated with discrete Fe‐based MOF nanocrystallites are first synthesized, followed by a thermal treatment to prepare hollow composite materials composed of Co–Fe alloy nanoparticles homogeneously distributed in porous N‐doped carbon nanoshells. Benefitting from the unique structure and composition, the as‐derived Co–Fe alloy@N‐doped carbon hollow spheres exhibit enhanced electrocatalytic performance for oxygen reduction reaction. The present approach expands the toolbox for design and preparation of advanced MOF‐derived functional materials for diverse applications.  相似文献

Hierarchical porous carbons (HPCs) are highly efficient supports for various remarkable catalytic systems. However, templates are commonly utilized for the preparation of HPCs, and the postremoval of the templates is uneconomical, time‐consuming, and harmful for the environment in most cases. Herein, a new humidity‐induced nontemplating strategy is developed to prepare 1D HPC with rich topologies and interconnected cavities for catalysis and energy storage applications. Porous electrospun nanofibers as calcination precursors are prepared via a humidity‐induced phase separation strategy. A nitrogen‐doped hierarchical porous carbon nanofiber (HPCNF), loading Co/Co3O4 hetero‐nanoparticles as exemplary nonprecious‐metal active substance (Co/Co3O4@HPCNF), is fabricated through the subsequent hydrothermal and pyrolysis treatment. The internal mesopore and cavity structure can be simply controlled by varying environment humidity during the electrospinning process. Benefiting from the unique topology, Co/Co3O4@HPCNF exhibits superior bifunctional activity when being used as electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction/evolution reactions. Moreover, the hybrid catalyst also demonstrates a remarkable power density of 102.5 mW cm?2, a high capacity of 748.5 mAh gZn?1, and long cycle life in Zinc–air batteries. The developed approach offers a facile template‐free route for the preparation of HPCNF hybrid and can be extended to other members of the large polymer family for catalyst design and energy storage applications.  相似文献

The zinc–bromine flow battery (ZBFB) is one of the most promising technologies for large‐scale energy storage. Here, nitrogen‐doped carbon is synthesized and investigated as the positive electrode material in ZBFBs. The synthesis includes the carbonization of the glucose precursor and nitrogen doping by etching in ammonia gas. Physicochemical characterizations reveal that the resultant carbon exhibits high electronic conductivity, large specific surface area, and abundant heteroatom‐containing functional groups, which benefit the formation and exposure of the active sites toward the Br2/Br? redox couple. As a result, the assembled ZBFB achieves a voltage efficiency of 83.0% and an energy efficiency of 82.5% at a current density of 80 mA cm?2, which are among the top values in literature. Finally, the ZBFB does not yield any detectable degradation in performance after a 200‐cycle charging/discharging test, revealing its high stability. In summary, this work provides a highly efficient electrode material for the zinc–bromine flow battery.  相似文献

Although graphite materials have been applied as commercial anodes in lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs), there still remain abundant spaces in the development of carbon‐based anode materials for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, an electrospinning route is reported to fabricate nitrogen‐doped carbon nanofibers with interweaved nanochannels (NCNFs‐IWNC) that contain robust interconnected 1D porous channels, produced by removal of a Te nanowire template that is coelectrospun within carbon nanofibers during the electrospinning process. The NCNFs‐IWNC features favorable properties, including a conductive 1D interconnected porous structure, a large specific surface area, expanded interlayer graphite‐like spacing, enriched N‐doped defects and active sites, toward rapid access and transport of electrolyte and electron/sodium ions. Systematic electrochemical studies indicate that the NCNFs‐IWNC exhibits an impressively high rate capability, delivering a capacity of 148 mA h g?1 at current density of as high as 10 A g?1, and has an attractively stable performance over 5000 cycles. The practical application of the as‐designed NCNFs‐IWNC for a full SIBs cell is further verified by coupling the NCNFs‐IWNC anode with a FeFe(CN)6 cathode, which displays a desirable cycle performance, maintaining acapacity of 97 mA h g?1 over 100 cycles.  相似文献
