多媒体网络应用和互动电视是上海市的重点科技攻关项目。在2002年8月,上海电信与闸北区政府签订了推进闸北区多媒体网络建设合作协议,并铺设了直通多媒体谷的电视节目传输光缆。2004年6月,合作三方签署“上海互动电视”试运营合作协议,开始在闸北区用户试验。2005年年底,上海电信北区局已经在闸北区完成了3万户电话线路改造,绿色家园、东方明珠公寓、宁泰新苑、歌林春天等45个小区,已经具备了开通高质量互动电视的条件。2006年1月,上海大宁多媒体谷宽带网络发展有限公司和上海杨浦区信息化委员会签署互动电视示范项目合作协议。2006年1月26…  相似文献

智能电视存在高质量的网络多媒体应用多、计算资源少、更新周期长以及硬件平台多样化等问题。针对这些问题,提出一个面向智能电视高质量网络多媒体应用的多媒体软件平台(STVMP)。STVMP可以与嵌入式Linux内核整合形成面向智能电视的操作系统,利用硬件ASIC平台支持多样化的网络多媒体应用,同时保证服务质量。实验证明该平台支持例如IPTV、VOD和数据广播等目前主流的网络多媒体应用,跨平台性强,计算资源使用较少。  相似文献

IPTV is defined as multimedia services, such as TV, video, audio, text, graphics, and data, delivered over IP-based networks managed to support quality of service (QoS), quality of experience, security, interactivity, and reliability. Mobile IPTV extends those services to mobile networks. The authors discuss mobile IPTV standardization's status, related approaches in the field, and technical challenges to enhancing mobile IPTV services. Given the critical role of QoS in the technology's widespread adoption, the authors also propose an efficient signaling scheme to support QoS for seamless mobile IPTV services.  相似文献

This paper describes the development, implementation and evaluation of a SIP based IPTV architecture with a new dynamic QoS adaptation method and signaling structure. The implemented QoS adaptation method allows dynamic updates of session parameters, maximizing the QoE and turning the solution suitable for live multimedia streaming, independently of the cast mode (unicast or multicast). The new SIP signaling structure, for session and media control, was developed following an All-SIP approach and a hybrid SIP+RTSP approach, both suited for an IMS environment, in order to compare the system behavior and performance using either approach. The details of both the IPTV Application Server and the IPTV Client prototypical implementations are described, as well as the results of field tests carried out across different Fixed and Mobile access networks for each of the signaling structures. The proposed IPTV architecture revealed to be suitable for scalable converged networks, due to its flexible multimedia delivery of personalized streams over a variety of network infrastructures, namely, Mobile radio networks.  相似文献

IPTV, unlike Internet TV, delivers digital TV and multimedia services over IP-based networks with the required level of quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE). Linear programming channels in IPTV are delivered through multicast, which is highly scalable with the number of subscribers. Video-on-demand (VoD) content, on the other hand, is typically delivered using unicast, which places a heavy load on the VoD servers and all the network components leading to the end-user set-top boxes (STBs) as the demand increases. With the rapid growth of IPTV subscribers and the shift in video viewing habits, the need to efficiently disseminate large volumes of VoD content has prompted IPTV service providers to consider the use of STBs to assist in video content delivery. This paper describes our current research work on Zebroid, a potential VoD solution for fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) networks, which uses IPTV data on a recurring basis to determine how to select, stripe, and preposition popular content in selected STBs during idle hours. A STB requesting VoD content during the peak hours can then receive necessary stripes from participating STBs in the neighborhood. Recent VoD request access patterns, STB availability data, and capacity data on network components are taken into consideration in determining the parameters used in the striping algorithm of Zebroid. We show both by simulation and emulation on a realistic IPTV testbed that the VoD server load can be reduced by more than 70% during peak hours by allocating only 8 GB of storage on each STB. The savings achieved through Zebroid would also allow IPTV service providers to add more linear programming channels without expensive infrastructure upgrades.  相似文献

Heterogeneous communication devices are emerging and changing the way of communication. Innovative multimedia applications are now accessible through these embedded systems. The 3GPP IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) provides a basic architecture framework for the Next Generation Network (NGN) supporting the convergence platform for service provisioning in heterogeneous networks. ETSI TISPAN standardization effort focuses on delivering IPTV services on such platform. Nevertheless, IPTV on IMS standardization suffers from a lack of efficient user-centric network management mechanisms as the end-user may consume IPTV service from different access networks, on different mobile devices, at anytime. User’s Perceived Quality of Service (PQoS) or Quality of Experience (QoE) of IPTV service may also suffer from wireless access network impairments. This paper introduces new functionalities in IPTV over IMS architecture which optimize satisfaction of the end-user and resource utilization of the operator’s networks. A context-sensitive User Profile (UP) model is used to deliver IPTV streams adapted to the user’s environment. In order to optimize the operator network usage, the impact of spatiotemporal dynamics of the video content on the deduced perceptual quality is considered. A Multimedia Content Management System (MCMS) is proposed to perform dynamic cross-layer adaptation of the IPTV stream based on PQoS measurements at the end-user side.  相似文献

Internet protocol television (IPTV) generically designates a real-time distribution service for multimedia contents over an IP network, such as the Internet. There are many advantages of IPTV deployment over current digital or air broadcast TV signals: integration, the use of the switched internet protocol (IP), the possibility to build home networks that can be used to share multimedia contents over different devices, the easy implementation of video on demand services and the usage of better compression and encryption standards. In order to implement this kind of service, it is extremely useful to have a system that can efficiently classify multimedia contents and users and distribute them in a customized way. This paper proposes a novel IPTV service for the distribution of personalized multimedia contents over IP networks based on the concept of content-zapping, in contrast to traditional channel-zapping: each client system receives a multimedia streaming that is automatically composed by the system based on the user preferences and the user will only interact with the system by requesting a content change or marking a content as favorite. The paper will describe the general functionality of the service and will present the detailed architecture of the IPTV server, the key component of the service infrastructure. The server must maintain a list of media contents residing in other systems and must keep a dynamic classification of the multimedia contents that are stored in its database. This classification is built and gradually refined based on the interactions between clients and multimedia contents. Special attention is given in the paper to the classification model, describing the general ideas that are used to automatically suggest multimedia contents to a specific user (that is characterized by his complete profile). A specific content may be suggested to the user based on the knowledge of the user profile and/or based on specific and dynamic information, such as the user position, the local temperature, date and time. The availability of this information obviously depends on the specific user device that is being used. The proposed system allows any client device to connect, allowing a high level of interoperability. It is also possible to use all the device capabilities and sensors, like Global Positioning System (GPS), accelerometers, light sensors, noise sensors, etc., thus creating a context environment that helps classify each user profile. These context-awareness mechanisms applied to mobile devices with wireless network (802.11b/g/n, WiMAX, GSM, UMTS, etc.) capabilities allow a better user experience and more accurate multimedia suggestions, due to the deep knowledge about the user device, network and environment. The system also allows the users to suggest contents to other users in the same “group of friends”. Several performance tests were already conducted and the results obtained show that the proposed system is very stable and fast, even for high increases on the number of users.  相似文献

Due to recent developments in Over-The-Top (OTT) technologies, Pay-TV operators have begun a migration process of managed IP Television (IPTV) services to more appealing OTT approaches. In these scenarios, being able to predict when and what resources will be necessary at any given point is crucial to a high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective operation, especially when dealing with the dynamic and resource-intensive requirements of IPTV multimedia services. To evaluate the advantages of demand forecasting for efficient Catch-up TV delivery on OTT scenarios, this research work explores several classes of machine learning models regarding their accuracy, computational requirement trade-offs, and deployability. The training process relies on a dataset comprised of Catch-up TV usage logs acquired from an IPTV operator’s live production service containing over 1 million subscribers. A predictive and dynamic resource provisioning approach is proposed and evaluated in terms of bandwidth and storage savings. Results demonstrate that forecasting Catch-up TV demand is practical, suitable for integration in OTT solutions, and useful in improving efficiency, with benefits to operators and consumers. Significant savings in bandwidth and storage are shown to be achievable, enabling green and cost-effective resource usage.  相似文献

The move to IP Protocol Television (IPTV) has challenged the traditional television industry by opening the Internet to high quality real time television content delivery. Thus it has provided an enabling set of key technologies to understand and foster further innovations in the multimedia landscape and to create dynamics in the TV value chain. This editorial provides a brief overview of this special issue.
