BACKGROUND: The use of organic cultivation with manures does not avoid the risk of high nitrate concentrations if nutrient management is inefficient. So we studied the influence of three organic manures combined or not with additional chemical fertilisers on growth and yield of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.), and on the soil and plant N concentrations. RESULTS: After 3 years of organic cultivation, poultry manure caused the highest soil pollution. The evolution of nitrate and organic matter in soil showed a pattern close to that of plant growth. The addition of mineral fertiliser increased vegetative growth and yield, and a cumulative season effect was observed. In treatments with no additional mineral fertiliser N translocation from leaves to fruits happened. A cumulative effect of seasons on fruit quality and a reduction near to 30% was observed in the first fruit quality category after 3 years. The fruit vitamin C content was reduced by increasing N fertilisation. CONCLUSION: The effects of organic fertiliser on soil and plant growth and yield depended on the type of manure used, its rate, and consecutive crop seasons. Horse manure gave the best combination of agricultural and environmental characteristics and could be used without additional fertigation. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Several Opuntia cactus fruits of different pulp colours from Argentina were studied at their physiological mature states. Analyses of these fruits showed very variable total soluble solid values and ascorbic acid contents ranging from 0.26 to 0.48 mg/g. Total phenolic compounds contents were between 0.54 and 1.2 mg of gallic acid/g, respectively. Purple Opuntia spp., dark purple Opuntia ficus-indica and orange Opuntia megacantha presented the highest levels amongst the samples studied. The antioxidant activity of Opuntia fruits was very variable and presented vitamin C equivalent values (VCEAC) between 0.25 and 0.57 mg/g. Purple Opuntia ficus-indica showed the highest antiradical ability. Besides, the antioxidant activity, ascorbic acid and phenolic compound contents in yellow and orange Opuntia megacantha fruits were monitored in different stages during their ripening process. Concentration changes of betalains and chlorophylls comparing skin and pulp and other physicochemical parameters were also measured in these fruits.  相似文献

Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa, Duch.) represents a relevant source of micronutrients and phenolic substances, most of which are natural antioxidants and contribute to the high nutritional quality (NQ) of the fruit. Despite its proven health benefits, strawberries also contain allergenic compounds. In particular protein Fra a 1 is considered the main cause of allergic reactions after consumption of these fruits. However, there is a dearth of literature data on the genetic and seasonal influences on the Fra a 1 accumulation in strawberries, and on the quantitative variation of this allergen during fruit ripening.  相似文献
