The purpose of this study was to investigate the laterality of muscle fiber conduction velocity in biceps brachii for badminton players, who have stronger arm in the handedness side for long term training. The muscle fiber conduction velocity was calculated from the propagation time of the action potentials along the muscle fibers and the electrode separation using cross-correlation method. For badminton players, significant lateral differences (e.g. right side skillful) were observed in the upper arm girth (P < 0.01) and isokinetic peak torque at 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 rpm (P < 0.01). For control subjects, significant lateral differences were in upper arm girth (P < 0.05) and isokinetic peak torque at exactly 30 rpm (P < 0.05). As for muscle fiber conduction velocity, there were no statistically significant differences between right (4.16 +/- 0.34 m/sec) and left (4.08 +/- 0.34 m/sec) sides in badminton players, and the control group exhibited same tendency (right: 4.36 +/- 0.25 m/sec, left: 4.28 +/- 0.33 m/sec) as well. These results suggest no training-induced change in the muscle fiber conduction velocity.  相似文献

We developed an in vitro motility assay system, in which myosin-coated polystyrene beads were made to slide on actin filament arrays (actin cables) in giant algal cells and subjected to centrifugal forces, which were parallel to the direction of bead movement to serve as external loads on actin-myosin sliding (Oiwa et al. (1990) Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 87: 7893-7897), and succeeded in determining the steady-state force-velocity relation of ATP-dependent actin-myosin sliding. To give further information about the properties of actin-myosin sliding, we have applied centrifugal forces, in parallel with the plane of actin-myosin sliding but at right angles with the direction of bead movement, and have found that such "lateral" centrifugal forces reduced the velocity of bead movement. In addition, we have also found that the velocity of bead movement is reduced more markedly with lateral forces applied from the left side of the bead ("left" lateral forces) than those applied from the right side of the bead ("right" lateral forces). These results are discussed in connection with the direction of sliding force generated by the myosin heads on the bead which interact with the right-handed double helix of actin monomers constituting actin filaments.  相似文献

STUDY DESIGN: Investigation of the mean safe lateral-mass screw lengths in the Roy-Camille and Magerl screw techniques in cadaveric cervical specimens. OBJECTIVES: To report the mean screw path length and to evaluate the relation of the screw trajectory to the nerve root in the Roy-Camille and Magerl screw techniques. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Potential injury to the cervical nerve root caused by too long a screw remains a major concern. Few studies regarding proper screw length and its relation to the adjacent nerve root are available. METHODS: Fourteen cervical spines were used for this study. Each lateral mass from C3 to C7 was drilled according to the techniques described by Roy-Camille (right side) and Magerl (left side). The cervical spines were harvested from the cadavers, and the anterior aspect of the lateral mass and spinal nerve were exposed. The screw path length between the dorsal and ventral cortices of the lateral mass were measured. An additional measurement was taken from the ventral aspect of the lateral mass to the nerve root along the screw path. RESULTS: The mean screw path length in the Roy-Camille technique decreased consistently from C3 (15.7 +/- 1.7 mm) to C7 (11.3 +/- 0.8 mm). The mean distance from the ventral cortex to the nerve root ranged from 1.2 to 2.3 mm, and the smallest value was at C7. The mean screw path length in the Magerl technique also decreased from cephelad to caudal, with a range of 15-16 mm at C3-C6 and a mean value of 13.8 mm at C7. CONCLUSIONS: A safe screw length is 14-15 mm in the Roy-Camille technique and 15-16 mm in the Magerl technique at C3-C6. A short screw may be used at C7 if desired.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Variations in the morphology and vascular reactivity of the proximal and distal radial artery might influence its performance as a bypass conduit. METHODS: The morphologic and functional characteristics of the proximal and distal RAs were compared with those of the left and right internal mammary arteries by using histologic and in vitro organ bath techniques. RESULTS: Proximal RA had a significantly greater medial cross-sectional area compared with that of the distal RA (2.48+/-0.27 mm2 compared with 1.86+/-0.21 mm2, p< 0.05), which were both significantly greater than the left internal mammary artery (0.54+/-0.09 mm2) or the right internal mammary artery (0.67+/-0.03 mm2). Proximal RA had a significantly greater response to 90 mmol/L potassium chloride than that of distal RA (88.4+/-7.3 compared with 60.2+/-10.3 mN, p<0.05), and both contracted more than the left internal mammary artery (30.3+/-2.9 mN) and the right internal mammary artery (32.6+/-4.1 mN). There was no difference in the response to noradrenaline and adrenaline between proximal and distal RA, both of which contracted more than the left and right internal mammary arteries. CONCLUSIONS: When choosing a segment of RA for use as a bypass conduit, regional variations in biologic properties should be considered.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The development of pulsatile ventricular assist devices for children has been limited mainly by size constraints. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the MEDOS trileaflet-valved, pulsatile, pediatric right ventricular assist device (stroke volume = 9 mL) in a neonatal lamb model of acute right ventricular failure. METHODS: Right ventricular failure was induced in ten 3-week-old lambs (8.6 kg) by right ventriculotomy and disruption of the tricuspid valve. Control group 1 (n = 5) had no mechanical support whereas experimental group 2 (n = 5) had right ventricular assist device support for 6 hours. The following hemodynamic parameters were measured in all animals: heart rate and right atrial, pulmonary arterial, left atrial, and systemic arterial pressures. Cardiac output was measured by an electromagnetic flow probe placed on the pulmonary artery. RESULTS: All results are expressed as mean +/- standard deviation and analyzed by Student's t test. A p value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Base-line measurements were not significantly different between groups and included systemic arterial pressure, 80.6 +/- 12.7 mm Hg; right atrial pressure, 4.6 +/- 1.6 mm Hg; mean pulmonary arterial pressure, 15.6 +/- 4.2 mm Hg; left atrial pressure, 4.8 +/- 0.8 mm Hg; and cardiac output, 1.4 +/- 0.2 L/min. Right ventricular injury produced hemodynamics compatible with right ventricular failure in both groups: mean systemic arterial pressure, 38.8 +/- 10.4 mm Hg; right atrial pressure, 16.8 +/- 2.3 mm Hg; left atrial pressure, 1.4 +/- 0.5 mm Hg; and cardiac output, 0.6 +/- 0.1 L/min. All group 1 animals died at a mean of 71.4 +/- 9.4 minutes after the operation. All group 2 animals survived the duration of study. Hemodynamic parameters were recorded at 2, 4, and 6 hours on and off pump, and were significantly improved at all time points: mean systemic arterial pressure, 68.0 +/- 13.0 mm Hg; right atrial pressure, 8.2 +/- 2.3 mm Hg; left atrial pressure, 6.4 +/- 2.1 mm Hg; and cardiac output, 1.0 +/- 0.2 L/min. CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate the successful creation of a right ventricular failure model and its salvage by a miniaturized, pulsatile right ventricular assist device. The small size of this device makes its use possible even in small neonates.  相似文献

To investigate the role of the sympathetic nervous system in angiotensin II (AngII)-stimulated medial and neointimal smooth muscle cell (SMC) replication, we sympathectomized rats with 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) in which the left carotid artery was injured by a balloon catheter. Balloon injury is associated with a loss of specific [3H]-prazosin binding. AngII (250 ng/kg/min), infused 2 weeks after balloon injury of the rat left carotid artery, increased systolic blood pressure by approximately 70 mm Hg. There was no effect of 6-OHDA on this pressor response. AngII increased the cumulative 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) labeling fraction (LF) in the uninjured right carotid media and the injured left carotid neointima as compared to controls (5.7+/-1.6% vs. 0.4+/-0.1%, p<0.05; 10.6+/-0.9% vs. 5.0+/-0.8%, p<0.05, respectively). 6-OHDA decreased the AngII-induced increase in LF in the media of the uninjured right carotid artery (AngII/6-OHDA 0.9+/-0.2% vs. AngII 5.7+/-1.6%, p < 0.05). 6-OHDA did not decrease the AngII-induced increase in LF in both the injured left carotid media and neointima at 4 weeks after balloon injury. The effects of chemical sympathectomy were comparable with those obtained 12 weeks after balloon injury. Thus, the data show that the sympathetic nervous system mediates the AngII-induced increase in SMC DNA synthesis, but only in the uninjured carotid media. This indicates a differential regulation of AngII-induced SMC replication in injured and uninjured vessels.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on blood pressure (BP) and systolic left ventricular transmural pressure (LVPtm) during sleep in congestive heart failure (CHF) patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). In CHF patients with OSA, chronic nightly CPAP treatment abolishes OSA and improves left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction. We hypothesized that one mechanism whereby CPAP improves cardiac function in CHF patients with OSA is by lowering LV afterload during sleep. METHODS AND RESULTS: Eight pharmacologically treated CHF patients with OSA were studied during overnight polysomnography. BP and esophageal pressure (Pes) (ie, intrathoracic pressure) were recorded before the onset of sleep and during stage 2 non-rapid eye movement sleep before, during, and after CPAP application. OSA was associated with an increase in systolic BP (from 120.4+/-7.8 to 131.8+/-10.6 mm Hg, P<0.05) and systolic LVPtm (from 124.4+/-7.7 to 137.2+/-10.8 mm Hg, P<0.05) from wakefulness to stage 2 sleep. CPAP alleviated OSA, improved oxyhemoglobin saturation, and reduced systolic BP in stage 2 sleep to 115.4+/-8.5 mm Hg (P<0.01), systolic LVPtm to 117.4+/-8.5 mm Hg (P<0.01), heart rate, Pes amplitude, and respiratory rate. CONCLUSIONS: In CHF patients with OSA, LV afterload increases from wakefulness to stage 2 sleep. By alleviating OSA, CPAP reduces LV afterload and heart rate, unloads inspiratory muscles, and improves arterial oxygenation during stage 2 sleep. CPAP is a nonpharmacological means of further reducing afterload and heart rate during sleep in pharmacologically treated CHF patients with OSA.  相似文献

Analysis was made of the variables of heart size, body position and transducer angle affecting the reproducibility of left ventricular internal dimensions as measured with M mode echocardiography. Echocardiograms were recorded in 24 subjects as the thorax was incrementally rotated and tilted. Transducer angle was noted from a three plane level attached to the probe. Constants were the technician, transducer placement and the interpreter. Heart rates varied insignificantly; respirations were held. Groups A and B were defined by their initial left ventricular internal dimensions at end-diastole (LVIDd): 49 +/- 5.9 and 73 +/- 8.6 mm (group mean +/- standard deviation). With body position constant the measurement error between duplicate recordings of LVIDd was +/- 1.2 mm (coefficient of variation = 1.8 percent) in Group A and +/- 4.5 mm (coefficient of variation = 4.6 percent) in Group B (p less than 0.001). Transducer angle varied 12 degrees between duplicate recordings in both groups. As the position of the thorax changed, the transducer followed, maintaining approximately the same incline with the chest wall. In both groups errors for combined LVIDd recorded with rotation and tilt, respectively, were unchanged from the duplication error. Thus, when the spatial orientation between the transducer and heart is held constant, it is the size of the heart that determines the reproducibility of the measurement of left ventricular internal dimensions.  相似文献

One hundred skeletally mature healthy volunteers underwent standardized bilateral posteroanterior radiographs in unloaded (static) and loaded (dynamic) conditions to determine the symmetry of ulnar variance. The mean age was 32 +/- 9 years (range, 19-61 years), with 58 women and 42 men. Ulnar variance was measured to the closest 0.5 mm using the method of perpendiculars. Three separate measurements were made of each radiograph in a blinded fashion by the same investigator. An intraobserver standard deviation of 0.21 was used to calculate a 95% tolerance interval of 0.7 mm (rounded up to 1 mm) as a measure of significance. The average static ulnar variance was -0.13 +/- 1.5 mm on the left and -0.29 +/- 1.6 mm on the right. The average dynamic ulnar variance was 0.93 +/- 1.5 mm on the left and 0.82 +/- 1.5 mm on the right. When compared individually, there was a greater than or equal to 1 mm side to side difference in 37% of volunteers under static and 38% under dynamic conditions. There were no significant correlations between ulnar variance measurements and patient age, gender, race, or handedness. Use of the normal wrist radiograph as a baseline for static radial length measurements is valid in only 63% of cases.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Although cardiomyoplasty (CMP) is thought to improve ventricular systolic function, its effects on ventricular diastolic function are not clear. Especially the effects on right ventricular diastolic filling have not been fully investigated. Because pericardial influences are more pronounced in the right ventricle than in the left ventricle, CMP with its external constraint may substantially impair right ventricular diastolic filling. METHODS: Fourteen purebred adult beagles were used in this study. Seven underwent left posterior CMP, and 7 underwent a sham operation with a pericardiotomy and served as controls. Four weeks later, the hemodynamic effects of CMP were evaluated by heart catheterization before and after volume loading (central venous infusion of 10 mg/kg of 4.5% albumin solution for 5 minutes). RESULTS: In the CMP group, mean right atrial pressure and right ventricular end-diastolic pressure increased significantly from 3.1 +/- 1.2 mm Hg to 6.1 +/- 2.0 mm Hg (p < 0.001) and from 4.0 +/- 1.8 mm Hg to 9.6 +/- 2.5 mm Hg (p < 0.001), respectively. Volume loading in the control group did not significantly increase either variable. Right ventricular end-diastolic volume and stroke volume did not change significantly (from 53 +/- 9.3 mL to 60 +/- 9.0 mL and from 20 +/- 2.3 mL to 21 +/- 3.2 mL, respectively) in the CMP group. In the control group, however, right ventricular end-diastolic volume and stroke volume increased significantly from 45 +/- 7.7 mL to 63 +/- 14 mL (p < 0.05) and from 18 +/- 4.3 mL to 22 +/- 4.2 mL (p < 0.05), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that CMP may reduce right ventricular compliance and restrict right ventricular diastolic filling in response to rapid volume loading because of its external constraint.  相似文献

Relatively few clinical studies have investigated the role of MRI in the patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. To assess MR capabilities in defining the presence, distribution and severity of left ventricular hypertrophy, the prevalence and clinical correlations of right ventricular hypertrophy and the prevalence and clinical implications of structural myocardial abnormalities, MRI and echocardiography were performed on 37 unselected patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The two methods were in agreement in 100% of cases in diagnosing the disease and classifying left ventricular hypertrophy as asymmetric, concentric or apical, and in 92% of cases in assessing the topographic distribution of hypertrophy of ventricular segments. A statistically significant linear correlation was found between echocardiographic and MR measurements of interventricular septum (r = 0.69, p < 0.0001, SEE = 4) and left posterior wall of the left ventricle (r = 0.67, p < 0.0001, SEE = 2.4). Right ventricular hypertrophy (right anterior wall diastolic thickness > 5 mm) was demonstrated by MRI in 23 of 33 patients (70%). In this group, left posterior wall thickness and left atrial diameter were higher (15 +/- 4 vs 11 +/- 2, p < 0.01 and 45 +/- 9 vs 38 +/- 5 mm, p < 0.05, respectively). On T2-weighted sequences, areas of reduced signal intensity, probably due to myocardial fibrosis, were detected in 16 cases (43%). This group was characterized by higher max. septal thickness (25 +/- 7 vs 21 +/- 6 mm, p < 0.05) and max. left posterior wall thickness (15 +/- 9 vs 7 +/- 8 mm, p < 0.05). All the three cases with dilated and hypokinetic left ventricle showed this kind of tissue abnormality. In conclusion, MRI provided clear, accurate and exhaustive data on the presence and distribution of left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Right ventricular hypertrophy and structural abnormalities of ventricular myocardium can also be detected and quantified. Right ventricular involvement is associated with more severe hypertrophy of left ventricular posterior wall. Structural myocardial abnormalities, probably due to fibrosis, are related to the extent of left ventricular hypertrophy.  相似文献

Using magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, we examined volumetric measurements of total brain, hemispheres, lateral ventricles and the hippocampus/amygdala complex in male subjects (41 first-episode schizophrenics, 30 chronic schizophrenic patients and 32 healthy controls). We found significantly smaller total brain size in the chronic schizophrenic group, significantly larger lateral ventricles in both patient groups and hippocampal volume reduction bilaterally in first-episode patients (-13.2% left, -12.05% right) and chronic patients (-10.6% left, -10.5% right) compared to controls--irrespective of diagnostic subtype, family history for psychiatric diseases, psychopathology, duration of illness or age at onset.  相似文献

The role of cerebral hypoperfusion in the posterior circulation has not been clearly established in migraine. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of vertebral artery (VA) hypoplasia in the pathogenesis of migraine. We studied the extracranial part of VA in 59 migraine patients (17 with and 42 without aura) using color Doppler. In migraine with aura, 29% of patients had hypoplastic VA, and in migraine without aura 7%. In migraine with aura, mean diameter of the right VA was 2.7+/-0.7 mm, and of the left 3.3+/-0.7 mm; in migraine without aura mean diameter was 3.1+/-0.5 mm on the right, and 3.3+/-0.6 on the left. In migraine with aura, mean systolic blood flow velocity was 55+/-16 cm/s on the right, 60+/-17 cm/s on the left, in migraine without aura 57+/-18 cm/s on the right, 57+/-18 cm/s on the left. We observed higher frequency of hypoplastic VA in migraine with aura, suggesting that hypoplasia of VA may be an additional factor which can lead to hypoperfusion in the posterior circulation during the aura phase.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION: Catheter ablation may eliminate anterograde and retrograde accessory pathway conduction at closely adjacent but anatomically discrete sites. However, the mechanisms of this discrepancy, the electrophysiologic and anatomical characteristics, and information about systematic study from a large patient population are not available. The purpose of this study was to investigate the electrophysiologic characteristics and anatomical complexities of the accessory pathway in which anterograde and retrograde conduction was successfully ablated at different sites. METHODS AND RESULTS: Thirty-eight (10.9%) patients (19 men and 19 women; mean age 37 +/- 2.4 years) fulfilling the criteria of having separate ablation sites for anterograde and retrograde conduction were designated as group I, and the other 310 patients (215 men and 95 women; mean age 47 +/- 0.6 years) were designated as group II. The patients with right-sided free-wall pathways had the highest incidence (18.6%) of separate ablation sites. The anatomical distance between anterograde and retrograde directions (left anterior oblique view, 13 +/- 0.6 vs 8 +/- 0.9 mm, P < 0.01; right anterior oblique view, 17 +/- 0.6 vs 5 +/- 0.7 mm, P < 0.01), and incidence of conduction impairment in one direction after successful ablation of another direction (15% vs 78%, P < 0.05) differed significantly between left and right free-wall pathways. The mean distances obtained from left (7 +/- 0.4 vs 14 +/- 0.4 mm, P < 0.05) and right (7 +/- 1.1 vs 15 +/- 0.9 mm, P < 0.05) anterior oblique views were shorter in patients who had impairment of conduction properties than those in patients without impaired conduction after successful ablation of one direction. CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that anatomical and functional dissociation of the accessory pathway into anterograde and retrograde components was possible. Further study on the relation between electrophysiologic and pathologic characteristics would be helpful to confirm these findings.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate sonographically measured absolute and relative lengths of normal kidneys according to subject height, sex, and age. METHODS: Real-time sonography was performed on 202 subjects. Measurements of longitudinal renal diameter represented absolute renal length. Relative renal length was calculated using the kidney length: body height ratio (KBR). RESULTS: Statistical analyses were done on findings in 175 subjects without renal impairment (104 men and 71 women) whose ages ranged from 17 to 85 years (mean +/- SD, 46.3 +/- 17.1). The mean heights of the subjects were 176 +/- 7 cm for men and 167 +/- 6 cm for women. The left kidney was absolutely (mean +/-SD, 112 +/- 9 mm) and relatively (mean KBR +/- SD, 0.655 +/- 0.042) longer than the right kidney (absolute length, 110 +/- 8 mm; KBR, 0.641 +/- 0.038), regardless of sex (p < 0.01). The absolute renal length was significantly greater in men than in women for both kidneys (p < 0.01), but there was no significant difference between KBRs (p > 0.05). Renal length decreased with age, and the rate of decrease seemed to accelerate at 60 years and older. When height and age were included in the multivariate regression analysis, sex was not a significant predictor of kidney length. CONCLUSIONS: Relative renal length better represents kidney size than absolute renal length because it eliminates sex and height differences.  相似文献

The effectiveness of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitor therapy in attenuating ventricular remodeling when initiated immediately following myocardial damage is clearly established. Less information, however, is available on the impact of late therapy on the remodeling process, especially its influence on the cellular components of these structural changes. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of converting enzyme inhibitor therapy commenced 28 days following infarction in the rat on changes in cardiac myocyte dimension and the interstitium. At 28 days following infarction, myocyte cell length (153.9+/-7.3 v 131.1+/-5.9 micron, P=0.0002) and cell volume in the free wall of the left ventricle (38. 5+/-5.0 x 10(3) v31.4+/-3.1 x 10(3), P=0.009) had increased compared with sham-operated rats. Similar changes were noted in the septum and right ventricle. Captopril therapy administered between 28 and 56 days attenuated a further increase in cell length noted in an untreated group in the left ventricle (153.5+/-15.3 v 167.3+/-13.7 micron, P=0.02), right ventricle (153.8+/-20.5 v 173.8+/-2.3 micron, P=0.01) and septum (158.0+/-20.2 v 179.1+/-16.6 micron, P=0.004). There was an increase in hydroxyproline content in the right ventricle and a similar trend in the left ventricle in the untreated myocardial infarction groups. These changes were not altered by captopril therapy. In summary, even late therapy with captopril attenuates progressive myocyte remodeling, which may contribute to the ability of ACE-inhibitor therapy to slow progressive chamber enlargement following infarction.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: MR coronary angiography is most often performed using two-dimensional techniques. Although three-dimensional (3D) acquisitions do have important advantages, they take too long for a single breath-hold and are thus susceptible to respiratory motion artifacts. The purpose of this study was to investigate the accuracy of a unique respiratory-gated 3D MR angiographic technique in identifying the proximal coronary arteries in patients suspected of having coronary artery disease. In addition, we investigated the capability of this technique to detect proximal stenoses. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We performed a prospective blinded study in 20 patients who were referred for conventional coronary angiography. A cardiac-gated 3D gradient-echo sequence with fat suppression was used. Retrospective respiratory gating was performed using navigator echoes of the diaphragm position. Using multiplanar reformatting, two independent readers blindly analyzed the data sets for visualization of major coronary arteries, lengths of imaged segments, and detection of significant stenoses (> 50% occlusion of the luminal diameter by conventional angiography). RESULTS: Seventy-seven of 80 (96%) coronary arteries were positively identified. In one patient, an anomalous coronary anatomy was readily identified and confirmed by conventional angiography. The average lengths of the imaged segments of the right, left main, left anterior descending, and left circumflex coronary arteries were 58 +/- 13 mm, 9 +/- 5 mm, 59 +/- 16 mm, and 24 +/- 10 mm, respectively. Overall sensitivity for the detection of stenoses was low (38%), with a specificity of 95%. Interobserver agreement was 0.92, with a kappa value of 0.65. CONCLUSION: Respiratory-gated 3D MR angiography allows accurate identification of proximal coronary arteries and may be valuable for 3D imaging of coronary anomalies. Further technical improvements are required to enhance the value of the technique in detecting stenoses.  相似文献

Morphometric evaluation of 54 dry cervical spines from C3 to C7 (a total of 270 cervical vertebrae) was performed to determine the bony boundaries of the uncinate process for resection of the uncinate process for access to posterolateral osteophytes or herniated disks at the time of anterior cervical diskectomy. The uncinate processes were significantly higher (p < 0.01) at the C4-C6 levels (5.8 +/- 1.1 mm to 6.1 +/- 1.3 mm) than at the C3 or C7 levels. The distance between the medial and lateral margins of the base of the uncinate process was significantly smaller (p < 0.01) at the C3 level (4.9 +/- 0.7 mm) than at the C7 level (6.3 +/- 0.7 mm). The anteroposterior diameter of the medial margin of the uncinate process decreased gradually from the C5 (12.5 +/- 1.5 mm) to C7 levels (11.6 +/- 1.3 mm) (p < 0.05). The inter-uncinate distance widened from the C3 (19.2 +/- 1.5 mm) to the C7 (24.6 +/- 2.1 mm) levels (p < 0.01). The mid-anteroposterior diameter of vertebral body increased gradually from the C3 (14.7 +/- 1.1 mm) to the C7 levels (16.1 +/- 1.5 mm) (p < 0.01). The width of the vertebra increased gradually from C3 to C7 (from 19.2 +/- 1.8 mm at C3 to 25.6 +/- 2.0 mm at C7) (p < 0.01). Knowledge of all the aforementioned data may be helpful during anterolateral cervical uncosectomy or uncoforaminotomy.  相似文献

Compared on 3 scales the hypnotic susceptibility of 135 Ss who differed in direction of lateral conjugate movement of the eyes upon being asked a reflective question: (a) Harvard Group Scale of Hypnotic susceptibility, Form A; (b) right-induction scale-items were phrased in a highly active and intellectual style and called for focusing on external events; (c) left-induction scale-items were phrased in a passive and emotional style and called for focusing attention on internal subjective feelings and experiences. No significant main effects due to eye directionality or style of induction were found; however, a significant interaction was obtained. The left movers performed better than both right movers and bidirectionals on the left-induction scale; the right movers performed better than the left movers, but not better than the bidirectionals, on the right-induction scale. An unexpected finding was that left movers were more likely than right-movers and bidirectionals to prefer a female to a male E. AIMS: The accuracy of magnetic resonance angiography in detecting proximal coronary artery stenoses is unclear. We postulated that fast magnetic resonance angiography is capable of (1) imaging proximal coronary arteries, and (2) detecting stenoses of > or = 50% of their luminal diameter. METHODS AND RESULTS: Thirty-five patients, referred for analysis of angina pectoris, underwent both conventional angiography and magnetic resonance angiography of coronary arteries. A fast k-space segmented gradient-echo technique was used during breath-holds. Two observers, blinded to the results of conventional angiography, independently analysed the magnetic resonance studies for (1) length of visualized segments, and (2) presence of signal voids indicative of stenoses. From 140 proximal arteries, 15 (11%) were excluded because of incomplete imaging or degraded image quality. Mean length of the visualized segments was 9 +/- 4 mm for the left main, 62 +/- 16 mm for the left anterior descending, 21 +/- 9 mm for the left circumflex and 89 +/- 32 mm for the right coronary artery. Sensitivity for detecting > or = 50% luminal diameter stenoses was 0.00 for the left circumflex, 0.53 for the left anterior descending coronary artery, 0.71 for the RCA and 1.00 for the left main artery. Specificity varied from 0.73 for the left anterior descending coronary artery to 0.96 for the left circumflex. Inter-observer agreement was 0.90. CONCLUSION: Thus, segmented magnetic resonance angiography is capable of non-invasive imaging of proximal coronary anatomy. Its good accuracy in detecting left main coronary artery disease, intermediate accuracy in detecting right coronary artery and left anterior descending coronary artery stenoses, and low accuracy in detecting left circumflex lesions fit within a range of sensitivities and specificities found by others. Further technical advances are necessary to make the technique clinically robust.  相似文献
