In this paper, we propose a cross-layer design framework combining adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) with hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) based on rate-compatible low-density parity-check codes (RC-LDPC) in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) fading channels with estimation errors. First, we propose a new puncturing pattern for RC-LDPC codes and demonstrate that the new puncturing pattern performs similar to the random puncturing but is easier to apply. Then, we apply RC-LDPC codes with the new puncturing pattern to the cross-layer design combing AMC with ARQ over MIMO fading channels and derive the expressions for the throughput of the system. The effect of channel estimation errors on the system throughput is also investigated. Numerical results show that the joint design of AMC and ARQ based on RC-LDPC codes can achieve considerable spectral efficiency gain.  相似文献

针对大气激光通信中由大气湍流引起的系统性能下降问题,研究了基于物理层自适应调制编码(AMC)和数据链路层混合自动请求重传(HARQ)的大气激光通信跨层系统性能。在建立了大气湍流信道瞬时信噪比模型的基础上,建立了大气激光通信AMC-HARQ系统模型,并推导了系统误包率和频带利用率公式,最后在双伽马信道模型下进行了仿真分析。仿真结果表明,大气激光通信AMC-HARQ系统能够在保证一定误包性能的条件下,大大提高系统频带利用率,提高单一应用AMC时的系统误包性能。随着重传次数增加,误包率和频带利用率均提高,但频带利用率增幅随重传次数增加而减小。  相似文献

Various retransmission schemes for wireless communication systems have been used to improve performance such as reliability and throughput. Each retransmission scheme is designed to improve the performance according to characteristics of each layer of protocol stacks, such as delay components and error control. Especially, a cross-layered retransmission scheme has been proposed to maximize the spectral efficiency by combining a retransmission scheme and adaptive modulation and coding (AMC). However, the cross-layered retransmission scheme is designed for performance improvement at the wireless access networks. The end-to-end performance is not taken into account for modeling of the cross-layered retransmission schemes. It is difficult to design retransmission schemes for the end-to-end performance improvement. In this paper, we analyze the delay and the throughput at the transport layer for the end-to-end performance when a system uses a cross-layered retransmission scheme and the transmission control protocol as the reliable transmission protocols. We also propose a cross-layered retransmission strategy, AMC combined with automatic repeat request (ARQ) and hybrid ARQ (HARQ), to improve end-to-end throughput. From the evaluation results, it is shown that the proposed cross-layered retransmission strategy is suitable for delay insensitive services that require high throughput.  相似文献

In general, link-adaptive schemes, such as adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ), enhance system capacity in time-varying wireless channels. For these link-adaptive schemes to be applied, resources have to be adaptively and dynamically allocated every frame. Thus, the system needs control messages to send information to users about dynamic resource allocation. Such information includes user ID, resource position, level of modulation, and coding and automatic repeat request (ARQ) information. However, the transmission of these resource-allocation messages causes control overhead. In this paper, we introduce a scheme that applies AMC to the transmission of resource-allocation messages and analyze its performance in systems that support truncated ARQ, such as link-layer ARQ and HARQ. In addition, we show that using AMC to transmit control messages is a good way to reduce control overhead; in particular, it is very effective when the number of users per frame is large, as in voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services.   相似文献

In this paper, we propose a useful framework for the cross-layer design and analysis of wireless networks where ARQ (automatic repeat reQuest) and AMC (adaptive modulation and coding) schemes are employed. To capture the joint effect of the packet transmission error rate at the PHY layer and the packet loss probability at the MAC layer, we introduce the effective bandwidth function of the packet service process. Base on queueing analysis with this effective bandwidth function, our cross-layer design tries to satisfy the required packet loss probability by each user and minimize the average packet transmission error rate. Numerical examples are provided to show the usefulness and characteristics of our framework.  相似文献

In this paper, we present bandwidth efficient selective retransmission method in conjunction with adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme for OFDM waveform. In the proposed method, when a packet failure occurs, receiver requests retransmission of information symbols prone to error corresponding to the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) sub-carriers of OFDM modulation. The selective retransmission avoids unnecessary retransmission and AMC chooses a proper modulation and coding scheme with an objective to maximize the throughput. Our method achieves higher throughput as compared to conventional retransmission methods such as Chase combining hybrid automatic repeat reQuest (CC-HARQ) and incremental redundancy hybrid automatic repeat reQuest (IR-HARQ). We also provide the throughput and delay analysis of the proposed method for non-truncated ARQ. The simulation results demonstrate throughput gain without significant impact on delay as compared to the conventional retransmission approaches.  相似文献

Cross‐layer design is a generic designation for a set of efficient adaptive transmission schemes, across multiple layers of the protocol stack, that are aimed at enhancing the spectral efficiency and increasing the transmission reliability of wireless communication systems. In this paper, one such cross‐layer design scheme that combines physical layer adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) with link layer truncated automatic repeat request (T‐ARQ) is proposed for multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) systems employing orthogonal space‐‐time block coding (OSTBC). The performance of the proposed cross‐layer design is evaluated in terms of achievable average spectral efficiency (ASE), average packet loss rate (PLR) and outage probability, for which analytical expressions are derived, considering transmission over two types of MIMO fading channels, namely, spatially correlated Nakagami‐m fading channels and keyhole Nakagami‐m fading channels. Furthermore, the effects of the maximum number of ARQ retransmissions, numbers of transmit and receive antennas, Nakagami fading parameter and spatial correlation parameters, are studied and discussed based on numerical results and comparisons. To improve the robustness and reliability of wireless transmissions, two complementary link adaptation techniques are employed: adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) at the physical layer and hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) at the medium access control layer. Because of their effectiveness in combating errors induced by the wireless channel, AMC and HARQ are now integral components of most emerging broadband wireless system standards, for example, LTE and WiMAX. Spectral efficiency (SE) as measured in bit per second per Hertz is one important parameter used to characterize a wireless system for comparison between different systems or between different configurations of the same system. This work provides a holistic approach of cross‐layer optimizations with the intent of maximizing SE by combining AMC and HARQ. It formulates closed‐form equations for calculating the average SE for wireless systems with the Rayleigh fading channel model. A new online algorithm is developed to optimize SE for both Rayleigh and non‐Rayleigh fading channel. Simulations using proven LTE model are performed to compare SE obtained from closed‐form equations and the developed algorithm for different system configurations. With the developed algorithm to determine how many retransmissions required in addition to the initial transmission in advance depending on the current wireless channel condition, the latency can be reduced up to 24 ms when sending the initial transmission and all of its retransmissions sooner than waiting for retransmission requests as is done previously. In this paper, a simple and novel cross-layer adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme, which increases the energy efficiency of the wireless communication system is proposed. Traditionally, AMC has been used to improve MAC-layer performance in terms of coded bit error rate, packet error rate, and throughput. The modulation and coding scheme is switched according to signal-to-noise ratio thresholds at the PHY layer. We extend the approach, proposing a framework for energy-efficient cross-layer AMC that captures the impact of both MAC layer and PHY layer parameters on the AMC switching criteria. Cross-layer designs are naturally suited to software defined radio applications. Not only are they readily implemented in software, but also they are integral to the radio components. They can optimize performance of the radio either for a given configuration or adaptively. Through examples of WLAN physical layer and Frequency Domain Equalized systems, we demonstrate our AMC scheme and verify its effectiveness by simulation.  相似文献

为改善协作分集系统的频谱效率,提出一种改进的跨层设计方案,对协作通信系统物理层的自适应调制编码(AMC)技术和链路层的混合自动重传(HARQ)协议进行联合优化设计。该方案利用少量比特的反馈,使得仅当目的节点通过直接信道不能正确译码分组时或者当直接信道处于深度衰落时触发中继节点转发协作伙伴数据。给出了所提方案基于瑞利衰落信道、解码转发(DF)条件下频谱效率的表达式,然后搜索在任意信噪比条件下使频谱效率最大化的调制与编码方案。通过计算机仿真对理论分析进行了验证。理论分析和仿真表明该跨层设计在中低信噪比(SNR)可进一步提升协作通信系统的频谱效率。   相似文献

We treat the throughput analyses of parallel ARQ schemes over correlated MIMO channels with adaptive modulation and coding (AMC). To describe the packet transmission over multiple parallel logic channels, we extend the existing burst- error model for single channel to multiple parallel logic channels. Based on such a packet error model, we derive the throughput of different parallel ARQ protocols. Moreover, to describe the temporally correlated physical channel fading, we generalize the existing Markov model for single channel to multiple parallel channels for MIMO systems. Then we develop a method for calculating the packet-level model parameters from the parameters of the physical-layer model and the MIMO transceiver. Using the above hierarchical throughput analysis framework, we investigate the potential throughput gain or throughput loss of parallel ARQ over the conventional serial ARQ in MIMO systems. Our results reveal that as SNR increases, parallel ARQ can achieve higher throughput gain or less throughput loss compared to serial ARQ; parallel SW can achieve throughput gain in most of the MIMO scenarios but increasing the number of antennas does not always bring higher gain; parallel GBN with large number of antennas and independent buffers can achieve throughput gain; parallel SR incurs throughput loss.  相似文献

Cross-layer techniques represent efficient means to enhance throughput and increase the transmission reliability of wireless communication systems. In this paper, a cross-layer design of aggressive adaptive modulation and coding (A-AMC), truncated automatic repeat request (T-ARQ), and user scheduling is proposed for multiuser multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) maximal ratio combining (MRC) systems, where the impacts of feedback delay (FD) and limited feedback (LF) on channel state information (CSI) are also considered. The A-AMC and T-ARQ mechanism selects the appropriate modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) to achieve higher spectral efficiency while satisfying the service requirement on the packet loss rate (PLR), profiting from the feasibility of using different MCSs to retransmit a packet, which is destined to a scheduled user selected to exploit multiuser diversity and enhance the system's performance in terms of both transmission efficiency and fairness. The system's performance is evaluated in terms of the average PLR, average spectral efficiency (ASE), outage probability, and average packet delay, which are derived in closed form, considering transmissions over Rayleigh-fading channels. Numerical results and comparisons are provided and show that A-AMC combined with T-ARQ yields higher spectral efficiency than the conventional scheme based on adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), while keeping the achieved PLR closer to the system's requirement and reducing delay. Furthermore, the effects of the number of ARQ retransmissions, numbers of transmit and receive antennas, normalized FD, and cardinality of the beamforming weight vector codebook are studied and discussed.   相似文献

A novel hybrid ARQ (HARQ) scheme using a concatenated two-state trellis-coded modulation (CT-TCM) code is proposed for improving wireless TCP throughput. A distinguished feature of the proposed scheme is that the heavily punctured TCM codes are used for retransmissions of the corrupted data block, which are combined at the receiver with the previously received sequences of the same data block for decoding. By this method, significantly improved coding gain and efficient spectrum utilization can be achieved with very low complexity. A Markov model is developed to evaluate TCP throughput over the proposed HARQ in wireless link. By both analysis and simulation, we demonstrate that compared with other existing TCM-based ARQ schemes, significant improvement of TCP throughput over wireless links is achieved by the proposed CT-TCM HARQ while smaller buffer size is required at the access point.  相似文献

Hybrid ARQ, an extension of ARQ that incorporates forward error correction coding, is a retransmission scheme employed in current communications systems. The use of HARQ can contribute to efficient utilization of the available resources and the provision of reliable services in latest-generation systems. This article focuses on wireless systems using HARQ with emphasis on the multiple-input multiple-output paradigm. MIMO-HARQ offers new opportunities because of the additional degrees of freedom introduced by the multiple antennas at the transmitter and receiver. The architecture of MIMO transceivers that are based on bit-interleaved coded modulation and employ HARQ is described. In this paper, we investigate a hybrid network coding technique to be used at a wireless base station (BS) or access point (AP) to increase the throughput efficiency of single-hop wireless networks. Traditionally, to provide reliability, lost packets from different flows (applications) are retransmitted separately, leading to inefficient use of wireless bandwidth. Using the proposed hybrid network coding approach, the BS encodes these lost packets, possibly from different flows together before broadcasting them to all wireless users. In this way, multiple wireless receivers can recover their lost packets simultaneously with a single transmission from the BS. Furthermore, simulations and theoretical analysis showed that when used in conjunction with an appropriate channel coding technique under typical channel conditions, this approach can increase the throughput efficiency up to 3.5 times over the automatic repeat request (ARQ), and up to 1.5 times over the HARQ techniques.  相似文献

针对前向译码(DF)协作无线传感器网络的特点和要求,探讨基于分集合并和差错控制两种技术的实用跨层设计方案。首先,研究支持DF中继协议的协作传感器网络在目的节点采用等增益合并(EGC)的检测方案。通过和传统的最大比合并(MRC)方案以及最近提出的协作MRC方案综合比较,说明等增益合并是一个具有良好性能的实用方案。然后,把物理层的EGC和数据链路层的自动请求重传(ARQ)结合起来,再进行系统分析。最后,基于EGC和截断ARQ提出一种实用跨层设计方案。  相似文献

在无线网络中,采用现用机制(ARQ)带宽利用率并不是很高。针对这种情况,提出了一种将网络编码思想融入到重传机制中的方式———NC-ARQ,来提高单跳无线网络(例如WiMAX、WLAN等)的带宽利用率。此外,高误比特率下,在NC-ARQ基础上将网络编码与信道编码结合,即NC-HARQ,可以进一步改善无线网络的带宽利用率。分析了在传统反馈重传机制和信道编码中加入网络编码后,多播网络带宽利用率的增益。理论和仿真都证明了加入网络编码后,反馈重传机制的带宽利用率能得到较大改善。  相似文献
