Flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of water are experimentally studied in a circular minichannel with an inner diameter of 1500 μm. The fluid flows upwards and the test section, made of the nickel alloy Inconel 600, is directly electrically heated. Thus, the evaporation takes place under the defined boundary condition of constant heat flux. Mass fluxes between 50 and 100 kg/(m2 s) and heat fluxes from 10 to 115 kW/m2 at an inlet pressure of 3 bar are examined.Infrared thermography is applied to measure the outer wall temperatures of the minichannel. This experimental method permits the identification of different boiling regions, boiling mechanisms and the determination of local heat transfer coefficients. Measurements are carried out in single-phase flow, subcooled and saturated boiling regions. The experimental heat transfer coefficients in the region of saturated boiling are compared with correlations available in literature and with a physically founded model developed for convective boiling.  相似文献

This paper investigates flow boiling of water in microchannels with a hydraulic diameter of 227 μm possessing 7.5 μm wide reentrant cavities on the sidewalls. Average two-phase heat transfer coefficients and CHF conditions have been obtained over a range of effective heat fluxes (28–445 W/cm2) and mass velocities (41–302 kg/m2 s). High Boiling number and Reynolds number have been found to promote convective boiling, while Nucleate Boiling dominated at low Reynolds number and Boiling number. A criterion for the transition between nucleate and convective boiling has been provided. Existing correlations did not provide satisfactory agreement with the heat transfer coefficient but did predict CHF conditions well.  相似文献

Experiments on flow boiling heat transfer in high aspect ratio micro-channels with FC-72 were carried out. Three channels with different hydraulic diameters (571, 762 and 1454 μm) and aspect ratios (20, 20 and 10) were selected. The tested mass fluxes were 11.2, 22.4 and 44.8 kg m?2 s?1 and heat fluxes ranging from 0–18.6 kW m?2. In the present study, boiling curves with obvious temperature overshoots are presented. Average heat transfer coefficient and local heat transfer coefficient along stream-wise direction are measured as a function of heat flux and vapour quality respectively. Slug-annular flow and annular flow are the main flow regimes. Convective boiling is found to be the dominant heat transfer mechanism. Local heat transfer coefficient increases with decreasing hydraulic diameter. Moreover, the effect of hydraulic diameter is more significant when mass flux is higher. The unique channel geometry is considered as the decisive reason of the flow regimes as well as heat transfer mechanisms.  相似文献

HFO1234yf has been proposed for mobile air-conditioners due to its low global warming potential (GWP) and performance comparable to that of R134a. However, its performance is inferior to that of R410A. This makes it difficult to be applied to residential air-conditioners. In order to apply the low-GWP refrigerant to residential air-conditioners, refrigerant mixtures of HFO1234yf and R32 are proposed, and their flow boiling heat transfer performances were investigated at two mass fractions (80/20 and 50/50 by mass%) in a smooth horizontal tube with an inner diameter of 2 mm. The experiments were conducted under heat fluxes ranging from 6 to 24 kW/m2 and mass fluxes ranging from 100 to 400 kg/m2 s at the evaporation temperature of 15 °C. The measured heat transfer coefficients were compared with those of pure HFO1234yf and R32. The results showed that the heat transfer coefficients of the mixture with an R32 mass fraction of 20% were 10–30% less than those of pure HFO1234yf for various mass and heat fluxes. When the mass fraction of R32 increased to 50%, the heat transfer coefficients of the mixture were 10–20% greater than those of pure HFO1234yf under conditions of large mass and heat fluxes. Moreover, the heat transfer coefficients of the mixtures were about 20–50% less than that of pure R32. The performances of the mixtures were examined at different boiling numbers. For refrigerant mixture HFO1234yf and R32 (80/20 by mass%), the nucleate boiling heat transfer was noticeably suppressed at low vapor quality for small boiling numbers, whereas the forced convective heat transfer was significantly suppressed at high vapor quality for large boiling numbers. This indicates that the heat transfer is greatly influenced by the mass diffusion resistance and temperature glide of the mixture.  相似文献

Flow boiling of the perfluorinated dielectric fluid FC-77 in a silicon microchannel heat sink is investigated. The heat sink contains 60 parallel microchannels each of 100 μm width and 389 μm depth. Twenty-five evenly distributed temperature sensors in the substrate yield local heat transfer coefficients. The pressure drop across the channels is also measured. Experiments are conducted at five flow rates through the heat sink in the range of 20–80 ml/min with the inlet subcooling held at 26 K in all the tests. At each flow rate, the uniform heat input to the substrate is increased in steps so that the fluid experiences flow regimes from single-phase liquid flow to the occurrence of critical heat flux (CHF). In the upstream region of the channels, the flow develops from single-phase liquid flow at low heat fluxes to pulsating two-phase flow at high heat fluxes during flow instability that commences at a threshold heat flux in the range of 30.5–62.3 W/cm2 depending on the flow rate. In the downstream region, progressive flow patterns from bubbly flow, slug flow, elongated bubbles or annular flow, alternating wispy-annular and churn flow, and wall dryout at highest heat fluxes are observed. As a result, the heat transfer coefficients in the downstream region experience substantial variations over the entire heat flux range, based on which five distinct boiling regimes are identified. In contrast, the heat transfer coefficient midway along the channels remains relatively constant over the heat flux range tested. Due to changes in flow patterns during flow instability, the heat transfer is enhanced both in the downstream region (prior to extended wall dryout) and in the upstream region. A previous study by the authors found no effect of instabilities during flow boiling in a heat sink with larger microchannels (each 300 μm wide and 389 μm deep); it appears therefore that the effect of instabilities on heat transfer is amplified in smaller-sized channels. While CHF increases with increasing flow rate, the pressure drop across the channels has only a minimal dependence on flow rate once boiling is initiated in the microchannels, and varies almost linearly with increasing heat flux.  相似文献

Heat transfer with liquid–vapor phase change in microchannels can support very high heat fluxes for use in applications such as the thermal management of high-performance electronics. However, the effects of channel cross-sectional dimensions on the two-phase heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop have not been investigated extensively. In the present work, experiments are conducted to investigate the local flow boiling heat transfer of a dielectric fluid, Fluorinert FC-77, in microchannel heat sinks. Experiments are performed for mass fluxes ranging from 250 to 1600 kg/m2 s. Seven different test pieces made from silicon and consisting of parallel microchannels with nominal widths ranging from 100 to 5850 μm, all with a nominal depth of 400 μm, are considered. An array of temperature sensors on the substrate allows for resolution of local temperatures and heat transfer coefficients. The results of this study show that for microchannels of width 400 μm and greater, the heat transfer coefficients corresponding to a fixed wall heat flux as well as the boiling curves are independent of channel size. Also, heat transfer coefficients and boiling curves are independent of mass flux in the nucleate boiling region for a fixed channel size, but are affected by mass flux as convective boiling dominates. A strong dependence of pressure drop on both channel size and mass flux is observed. The experimental results are compared to predictions from a number of existing correlations for both pool boiling and flow boiling heat transfer.  相似文献

A new flow boiling heat transfer model and a new flow pattern map based on the flow boiling heat transfer mechanisms for horizontal tubes have been developed specifically for CO2. Firstly, a nucleate boiling heat transfer correlation incorporating the effects of reduced pressure and heat flux at low vapor qualities has been proposed for CO2. Secondly, a nucleate boiling heat transfer suppression factor correlation incorporating liquid film thickness and tube diameters has been proposed based on the flow boiling heat transfer mechanisms so as to capture the trends in the flow boiling heat transfer data. In addition, a dryout inception correlation has been developed. Accordingly, the heat transfer correlation in the dryout region has been modified. In the new flow pattern map, an intermittent flow to annular flow transition criterion and an annular flow to dryout region transition criterion have been proposed based on the changes in the flow boiling heat transfer trends. The flow boiling heat transfer model predicts 75.5% of all the CO2 database within ±30%. The flow boiling heat transfer model and the flow pattern map are applicable to a wide range of conditions: tube diameters (equivalent diameters for non-circular channels) from 0.8 to 10 mm, mass velocities from 170 to 570 kg/m2 s, heat fluxes from 5 to 32 kW/m2 and saturation temperatures from −28 to 25 °C (reduced pressures from 0.21 to 0.87).  相似文献

Flow boiling heat transfer experiments using R134a were carried out for jet impingement on smooth and enhanced surfaces. The enhanced surfaces were circular micro pin fins, hydrofoil micro pin fins, and square micro pin fins. The effects of saturation pressure, heat flux, Reynolds number, pin fin geometry, pin fin array configuration, and surface aging on flow boiling heat transfer characteristics were investigated. Flow boiling experiments were carried out for two different saturation pressures, 820 kPa and 1090 kPa. Four jet exit velocities ranging from 1.1–4.05 m/s were investigated. Flow boiling jet impingement on smooth surfaces was characterized by large temperature overshoots, exhibiting boiling hysteresis. Flow boiling jet impingement on micro pin fins displayed large heat transfer coefficients. Heat transfer coefficients as high as 150,000 W/m2 K were observed at a relatively low velocity of 2.2 m/s with the large (D = 125 μm) circular micro pin fins. Jet velocity, surface aging, and saturation pressure were found to have significant effects on the two-phase heat transfer characteristics. Subcooled nucleate boiling was found to be the dominant heat transfer mechanism.  相似文献

To investigate effects of the inflow rate on pool boiling heat transfer in a vertical annulus, the inflow area at its bottom has been changed from 0 to 1060.26 mm2. For the test, a heated tube of 16.5 mm diameter and water at atmospheric pressure has been used. To elucidate effects of the inflow area on heat transfer results of the annulus are compared to the data of a single unrestricted tube. The change in the inflow rate at the bottom of the annulus results in variation in heat transfer coefficients. When the inflow area is 176.71 mm2 the deterioration point of heat transfer coefficients gets moved up to the higher heat fluxes because of the convective flow at the bottom regions.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to investigate flow boiling in 200 μm × 253 μm parallel microchannels with structured reentrant cavities. Flow morphologies, boiling inceptions, heat transfer coefficients, and critical heat fluxes were obtained and studied for mass velocities ranging from G = 83 kg/m2 s to G = 303 kg/m2 s and heat fluxes up to 643 W/cm2. Comparisons of the performance of the enhanced and plain-wall microchannels were performed. The microchannels with reentrant cavities were shown to promote nucleation of bubbles and to support significantly better reproducibility and uniformity of bubble generation. The structured surface was also shown to significantly reduce the boiling inception and to enhance the critical heat flux.  相似文献

This study concerns water saturated flow boiling heat transfer in an array of staggered square micro-pin-fins having a 200 × 200 μm2 cross-section by a 670 μm height. Three inlet temperatures of 90, 60, and 30 °C, six mass velocities for each inlet temperature, ranging from 183 to 420 kg/m2 s, and outlet pressures between 1.03 and 1.08 bar were tested. Heat fluxes ranged from 23.7 to 248.5 W/cm2. Heat transfer coefficient was fairly constant at high quality, insensitive to both quality and mass velocity. Heat transfer was enhanced by inlet subcooling at low quality. Possible heat transfer mechanism was discussed.  相似文献

Flow boiling of refrigerant HFC-134a in a multi-microchannel copper cold plate evaporator is investigated. The heat transfer coefficient is measured locally for the entire range of vapor qualities starting from subcooled liquid to superheated vapor. The test piece contains 17 parallel, rectangular microchannels (0.762 mm wide) of hydraulic diameter 1.09 mm and aspect ratio 2.5. The design of the test facility is validated by a robust energy balance as well as a comparison of single-phase heat transfer coefficients with results from the literature. Results are presented for four different mass fluxes of 20.3, 40.5, 60.8, and 81.0 kg m?2 s?1, which correspond to refrigerant mass flow rates of 0.5–2.0 g s?1, and at three different pressures 400, 550 and 750 kPa corresponding to saturation temperatures of 8.9, 18.7, and 29 °C. The wall heat flux varies from 0 to 20 W/cm2 in the experiments. The heat transfer coefficient is found to vary significantly with refrigerant inlet quality and mass flow rate, but only slightly with saturation pressure for the range of values investigated. The peak heat transfer coefficient is observed for a vapor quality of approximately 20%.  相似文献

This experimental study aims to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of single-phase turbulent flow of R-134a refrigerant in a rectangular multi-micro channel heat sink having 27 channels where each channel has a hydraulic diameter of 421 μm. Experimental results were obtained for inlet temperatures ranging from 24 to 33 °C, mass fluxes from 1485 to 2784 kg m 2 s 1 and wall heat fluxes from 3 to 24 kW m 2. The results indicate that the heat transfer coefficients are found to be higher at lower inlet temperatures than those at higher ones. In addition, when equal amount of heat supplied to the heat sink, the heat transfer coefficients increase with increasing the mass flux of refrigerant. They were also compared with 12 well-known correlations and it was seen that 4 of 12 were in good agreement with each other with the average deviation < 10%. The findings demonstrate that well-known correlations in fundamental sources can be used to predict the heat transfer coefficient of R-134a during its single phase flow in a multiport microchannel heat sink under turbulent regime.  相似文献

A novel miniature porous heat sink system was presented for dissipating high heat fluxes of electronic device, and its operational principle and characteristics were analyzed. The flow and heat transfer of miniature porous heat sink was experimentally investigated at high heat fluxes. It was observed that the heat load of up to 280 W (heat flux of 140 W/cm2) was removed by the heat sink with the coolant pressure drop of about 34 kPa across the heat sink system and the heater junction temperature of 62.9 °C at the coolant flow rate of 6.2 cm3/s. Nu number of heat sink increased with the increase of Re number, and maximum value of 323 for Nu was achieved at highest Re of 518. The overall heat transfer coefficient of heat sink increased with the increase of coolant flow rate and heat load, and the maximal heat transfer coefficient was 36.8 kW(m2 °C)?1 in the experiment. The minimum value of 0.16 °C/W for the whole thermal resistance of heat sink was achieved at flow rate of 6.2 cm3/s, and increasing coolant flow rate and heat fluxes could lead to the decrease in thermal resistance. The micro heat sink has good performance for electronics cooling at high heat fluxes, and it can improve the reliability and lifetime of electronic device.  相似文献

The subcooled flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of a kerosene kind hydrocarbon fuel were investigated in an electrically heated horizontal tube with an inner diameter of 1.0 mm, in the range of heat flux: 20–1500 kW/m2, fluid temperature: 25–400 °C, mass flux: 1260–2160 kg/m2 s, and pressure: 0.25–2.5 MPa. It was proposed that nucleate boiling heat transfer mechanism is dominant, as the heat transfer performance is dependent on heat flux imposed on the channel, rather than the fuel flow rate. It was found that the wall temperatures along the test section kept constant during the fully developed subcooled boiling (FDSB) of the non-azeotropic hydrocarbon fuel. After the onset of nucleate boiling, the temperature differences between inner wall and bulk fluid begin to decrease with the increase of heat flux. Experimental results show that the complicated boiling heat transfer behavior of hydrocarbon fuel is profoundly affected by the pressure and heat flux, especially by fuel subcooling. A correlation of heat transfer coefficients varying with heat fluxes and fuel subcooling was curve fitted. Excellent agreement is obtained between the predicted values and the experimental data.  相似文献

Recent reviews of flow boiling heat transfer in small tubes and channels have highlighted the need for predictive correlations that are applicable over a wide range of parameters and across different studies. A composite correlation is developed in the present work which includes nucleate boiling and convective heat transfer terms while accounting for the effect of bubble confinement in small channels. The correlation is developed from a database of 3899 data points from 14 studies in the literature covering 12 different wetting and non-wetting fluids, hydraulic diameters ranging from 0.16 to 2.92 mm, and confinement numbers from 0.3 to 4.0. The mass fluxes included in the database range from 20 to 3000 kg m?2 s?1, the heat fluxes from 0.4 to 115 W cm?2, the vapor qualities from 0 to 1, and the saturation temperatures from ?194 to 97 °C. While some of the data sets show opposing trends with respect to some parameters, a mean absolute error of less than 30% is achieved with the proposed correlation.  相似文献

An experimental study on in-tube flow boiling heat transfer of R-134a/R-290/R-600a refrigerant mixture has been carried out under varied heat flux test conditions. The heat transfer coefficients are experimentally measured at temperatures between ?8 and 5 °C for mass flow rates of 3–5 g s?1. Acetone is used as a hot fluid which flows in the outer tube of diameter 28.57 mm while the refrigerant mixture flows in the inner tube of diameters 9.52 and 12.7 mm. By regulating the acetone flow conditions, the heat flux is maintained between 2 and 8 kW/m2 and the pressure of the refrigerant is maintained between 3.2 and 5 bar. The comparison of experimental results with the familiar correlations shows that the correlations over predict the heat transfer coefficients for this mixture when stratified and stratified-wavy flow prevail. Multiple regression technique is used to evolve and modify existing correlations to predict the heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant mixture. It is found that the modified version of Lavin–Young correlation (1965) predicts the heat transfer coefficient of the considered mixture within an average deviation of ±20.5 %.  相似文献

To identify effects of the bottom inflow area on pool boiling heat transfer in a vertical annulus, three tube diameters (16.5, 25.4, 34.0 mm) and the saturated water at atmospheric pressure has been tested. The inflow area has been changed from 0 to 1060.3 mm2. To clarify effects of the inflow area on heat transfer results of the annulus are compared to the data of a single unrestricted tube. The inflow area changes heat transfer coefficients much and moves the deterioration point of heat transfer coefficients to the higher heat fluxes. To quantify effects of the inflow area on heat transfer, a new empirical correlation has been developed in terms of the area ratio, inflow area, and the heat flux. The correlation predicts the heat transfer data of boiling within ±10%.  相似文献

This research article investigates the effect that hydrodynamic cavitation has on heat transfer. The fluid medium is refrigerant R-123 flowing through 227 μm hydraulic diameter microchannels. The cavitation is instigated by the inlet orifice. Adiabatic tests were conducted to study the two-phase cavitating flow morphologies and hydrodynamic characteristics of the flow. Diabatic experiments were performed resulting in surface temperatures under heat fluxes up to 213 W/cm2 and mass velocities from 622 kg/m2 s to 1368 kg/m2 s. Results were compared to non-cavitating flows at the same mass velocities. It was found that the cavitating flows can significantly enhance the heat transfer. The heat transfer coefficient of the cavitating flows was larger than the non-cavitating flows by as much as 84%. Single-phase and two-phase heat transfer coefficients have been elucidated and employed to deduce the heat transfer mechanism prevailing under boiling conditions with and without the presence of cavitation.  相似文献

The paper gives the basic results of experimental investigation of boiling heat transfer in heat-absorbing devices of the ITER thermonuclear reactor, which are subjected to one-side heating. The experimental data on heat transfer at nucleate and film boiling and on critical heat fluxes are obtained in the following range of parameters of water flow: pressure p = 0.7–2.0 MPa, mass flux G = 340–25 000 kg/(m2 s), and water temperature at the inlet Tin = 20–60 °C. A twisted tape is inserted in the circular channel in order to form swirling flow of water. The investigations are performed for tapes with different values of flow swirl coefficient, as well for test sections without a tape. Appropriate calculation formulas are derived, which reliably generalize the experimental data.  相似文献
