Although the distribution of gas hold-up in stirred tanks is a key factor to their design and operation, systematic experimental data on local gas hold-up of surface-aerated stirred tanks are not available in open literature. In this work, turbulent two-phase flow in a surface aeration stirred tank with a diameter of 0.380 m was investigated experimentally and numerically. The gas hold-up was measured with a conductance probe at various operating conditions. A surface baffle to improve the efficiency of surface aeration of a Rushton disk turbine was designed and tested. The experimental data suggest that the gas hold-up distribution in the surface aeration tank is very non-uniform, and the surface baffle improves the aeration rate particularly at a high agitation speed. A three-dimensional in-house computational fluid dynamic (CFD) two-fluid model with the standard k?Ap turbulence model was used to predict the gas-liquid flow, and the impeller region was handled using the improved inner-outer iterative procedure. Based on Kolmogoroff's theory of isotropic turbulence, a constitutive equation for surface aeration strength was proposed. The numerical prediction, in combination with the measurements, gives insight to the surface aeration performance of stirred tanks. It was found that the simulation reasonably predicted the gas hold-up distribution in the upper tank, but underestimated it in the region below the stirrer.  相似文献

The single-loop flow fields in Rushton turbine stirred tanks with clearance C=0.15T (T is tank diameter) were investigated by using particle image velocimetry (PIV) experiments and large eddy simulation (LES) methods. The velocity and turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) were carefully measured and resolved with high resolution camera. The regions with high TKE are affected by the movement of the trailing vortices generated behind the impeller blades. The effects of both geometrical configuration and Reynolds number were discussed. It is found that the Reynolds number has little effect on the mean flow for the configuration of impeller diameter D=T/3, C=0.15T. However, the single-loop flow pattern is changed into a double-loop one if D is increased from T/3 to T/2. The LES results were compared with the PIV experiments and the laser Doppler anemometry (LDA) data in the literature. The effect of the grid was validated, and the levels of local anisotropy of turbulence near the impeller discharge regions were investigated. Both the phase-averaged and phase-resolved LES results are in good agreement with the PIV experimental data, and are better than the predictions of the kε model. The agreement shows that the LES method can be used to simulate the complex flow fields in stirred tanks.  相似文献

This work presents a comprehensive study of different turbulence models, including the kε, SST, SSG–RSM and the SAS–SST models, for simulating turbulent flow in a baffled tank stirred with a Rushton turbine. All the turbulence models tested predict the mean axial and tangential velocities reasonably well, but under-predict the decay of mean radial velocity away from the impeller. The kε model predicts poorly the generation and dissipation of turbulence in the vicinity of the impeller. This contrasts with the SST model, which properly predicts the appearance of maxima in the turbulence kinetic energy and turbulence energy dissipation rate just off the impeller blades. Curvature correction improves the SST model by allowing a more accurate prediction of the magnitude and location of these maxima. However, neither the kε nor the SST model is able to properly capture the chaotic and three-dimensional nature of the trailing vortices that form downstream of the blades of the impeller. In this sense, the SAS–SST model produces more physical predictions. However, this model has some drawbacks for modelling stirred tanks, such as the large number of modelled revolutions required to obtain good statistical averaging for calculating turbulence quantities. Taking into consideration both accuracy and solution time, the SSG–RSM model is the least satisfactory model tested for predicting turbulent flow in a baffled stirred tank with a Rushton turbine.  相似文献

We consider scaling of flow within a stirred tank with increasing Reynolds number. Experimental results obtained from two different tanks of diameter 152.5 and 292.1 mm, with a Rushton turbine operating at a wide range of rotational speeds stirring the fluid, are considered. The Reynolds number ranges from 4000 to about 78,000. Phase-locked stereoscopic PIV measurements on three different vertical planes close to the impeller give phase-averaged mean flow on a cylindrical surface around the impeller. The scaling of θ- and plane-averaged radial, circumferential and axial mean velocity components is first explored. A theoretical model for the impeller-induced flow is used to extract the strength and size of the three dominant elements of the mean flow, namely the circumferential flow, the jet flow and the pairs of tip vortices. The scaling of these parameters with Reynolds number for the two different tanks is then obtained. The plane-averaged mean velocity scales with the blade tip velocity above a Reynolds number of about 15,000. However, parameters associated with the jet and tip vortices do not become Reynolds number independence until Re exceeds about 105. The results for the two tanks exhibit similar Reynolds number dependence, however, a perfect collapse is not observed, suggesting a sensitive dependence of the mean flow to the finer details of the impeller.  相似文献

In this work, mixing experiments and numerical simulations of flow and macro-mixing were carried out in a 0.24 m i.d. gas-liquid stirred tank agitated by a Rushton turbine. The conductivity technique was used to measure the mixing time. A two-phase CFD (computational fluid dynamics) model was developed to calculate the flow field, k and ε distributions and holdup. Comparison between the predictions and the reported experimental data [Lu, W.M., Ju, S.J., 1987. Local gas holdup, mean liquid velocity and turbulence in an aerated stirred tank using hot-film anemometry. Chemical Engineering Journal 35 (1), 9-17] of flow field and holdup at same conditions were investigated and good agreements have been got. As the complexity of gas-liquid systems, there was still no report on the prediction of mixing time through CFD models in a gas-liquid stirred tank. In this paper, the two-phase CFD model was extended for the prediction of the mixing time in the gas-liquid stirred tank for the first time. The effects of operating parameters such as impeller speed, gas flow rate and feed position on the mixing time were compared. Good agreements between the simulations and experimental values of the mixing time have also been achieved.  相似文献

The Speziale, Sarkar and Gatski Reynolds Stress Model (SSG RSM) is utilized to simulate the fluid dynamics in a full baffled stirred tank with a Rushton turbine impeller. Four levels of grid resolutions are chosen to determine an optimised number of grids for further simulations. CFD model data in terms of the flow field, trailing vortex, and the power number are compared with published experimental results. The comparison shows that the global fluid dynamics throughout the stirred tank and the local characteristics of trailing vortices near the blade tips can be captured by the SSG RSM. The predicted mean velocity components in axial, radial and tangential direction are also in good agreement with experiment data. The power number predicted is quite close to the designed value, which demonstrates that this model can accurately calculate the power number in the stirred tank. Therefore, the simulation by using a combination of SSG RSM and MRF impeller rotational model can accurately model turbulent fluid flow in the stirred tank, and it offers an alternative method for design and optimisation of stirred tanks.  相似文献

We consider the question of scaling of flow within a stirred tank with increasing Reynolds number. Experimental results obtained from two different tanks of diameter 15.25 and 29.21 cm with a Rushton turbine operating at a wide range of rotational speed is considered for the scaling analysis. The resulting Reynolds number of the flow ranges from 4000 to about 80,000. Phase locked stereoscopic PIV measurements have been performed in order to obtain all three components of velocity on three different vertical planes close to the impeller. The scaling of plane-averaged mean flow was explored in the companion part-I of the paper. The scaling of rms and skewness of fluctuation about the mean is investigated here. The fluctuation about the mean is explained in terms of time-dependent oscillation of the impeller-induced jet and tip vortex components of the flow. The spatial structure of the instantaneous fluctuation about the mean is investigated in terms of eigenmodes obtained using proper orthogonal decomposition with the method of snapshots. The scaling of energy content of the dominant eigenmodes with Re is investigated.  相似文献

In this work, simulations have been performed for three phase stirred dispersions using computational fluid dynamics model (CFD). The effects of tank diameter, impeller diameter, impeller design, impeller location, impeller speed, particle size, solid loading and superficial gas velocity have been investigated over a wide range. The Eulerian multi-fluid model has been employed along with the standard k-ε turbulence model to simulate the gas-liquid, solid-liquid and gas-liquid-solid flows in a stirred tank. A multiple reference frame (MRF) approach was used to model the impeller rotation and for this purpose a commercial CFD code, FLUENT 6.2. Prior to the simulation of three phase dispersions, simulations were performed for the two extreme cases of gas-liquid and solid-liquid dispersions and the predictions have been compared with the experimental velocity and hold-up profiles. The three phase CFD predictions have been compared with the experimental data of Chapman et al. [1983. Particle-gas-liquid mixing in stirred vessels, part III: three phase mixing. Although the standard k‐? model is most frequently used for turbulence modeling, it often leads to poor results for strongly swirling flows involved in stirred tanks and other processing devices. In this work, a swirling number, RS, is introduced to modify the standard k‐? model. A Eulerian‐Eulerian model is employed to describe the gas‐liquid, two‐phase flow in a baffled stirred tank with a Rushton impeller. The momentum and the continuity equations are discretized using the finite difference method and solved by the SIMPLE algorithm. The inner‐outer iterative algorithm is used to account for the interaction between the rotating impeller and the static baffles. The predictions, both with and without RS corrections, are compared with the literature data, which illustrates that the swirling modification could improve the numerical simulation of gas‐liquid turbulent flow in stirred tanks.  相似文献

A modified Rushton impeller with two circular covering-plates mounted on the upper and lower sides of the blades was designed. There are gaps between the plates and the blades. The turbulent hydrodynamics was analyzed by the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. Firstly, the reliability of the numerical model and simulation method was verified by comparing with the experimental results from literature. Subsequently, the power consumption, flow pattern, mean velocity and mixing time of the covering-plate Rushton impeller (RT-C) were studied and compared with the standard Rushton impeller (RT) operated under the same conditions. Results show that the power consumption can be decreased about 18%. Compared with the almost unchanged flow field in the lower stirred tank, the mean velocity was increased at the upper half of the stirred tank. And in the impeller region, the mean axial and radial velocities were increased, the mean tangential velocity was decreased. In addition, the average mixing time of RT-C was shortened about 4.14% than the counterpart of RT. The conclusions obtained here indicated that RT-C has a more effective mixing performance and it can be used as an alternative of RT in the process industries.  相似文献

分别用体三维速度测量技术(volumetric three-component velocimetry measurements,V3V)和大涡模拟(large eddy simulation,LES)方法对涡轮桨搅拌槽内流场进行研究,发现在完全湍流状态下,涡轮桨搅拌槽内流场的量纲1相平均速度及湍动能分布同Reynolds数无关。用V3V方法实现了Rushton桨叶附近三维流场的重构;探讨尾涡的三维结构及运动规律;分析了叶片后方30°截面轴向、径向和环向速度沿径向分布规律。用V3V实验结果对比了2D-PIV(particle image velocimetry)数据中的尾涡涡对位置和涡量,涡对位置吻合度较好,但2D-PIV中涡量较V3V小37.5%;通过大涡模拟得到完整的尾涡结构,发现在叶片上边缘后侧存在一个和尾涡形成方式相同但不成对出现的涡结构;将大涡模拟结果和2D-PIV及V3V实验结果对比发现,大涡模拟在速度分布及尾涡运动轨迹方面均同实验结果吻合较好,表明大涡模拟能较好地预测涡轮桨搅拌槽内流场。  相似文献

在旋转坐标系下 ,采用k-ε湍流模型模拟了两个时间瞬间六直叶涡轮搅拌槽内流体流动状态 ,模型成功地再现了六直叶涡轮搅拌槽内“双循环”流动形式 .模拟结果表明当桨叶离底距离C/T =0 .16 7时 ,槽体内流动从径向流动转化为轴向流动 .模拟计算搅拌功率准数及桨叶排出流量准数与实验结果相差很小 ,数值模拟速度分布与实验测量结果吻合较好 ,且预测速度数值明显优于“黑箱”模拟方法  相似文献

The velocity characteristics of the flows in a fully baffled vessel of diameter T = 290 mm stirred by a Rushton impeller of diameter D = T/3 were investigated by means of laser-Doppler anemometry measurements. The effects of clearance and rotational speed on the flow patterns in the vessel were studied. It was found that at impeller clearances from the bottom of the vessel (C) around 0.2 T the characteristic double-loop flow pattern undergoes a transition to a single-loop one with the impeller stream direction becoming partly axial and being inclined at around 25 to 30° to the horizontal. The impeller stream inclination varied with radial distance from the impeller, as well as with angular position between blades (blade angle). Impeller speed was found to have no effect on the flow pattern or the mean velocities and turbulence levels normalized by Vtip for C/T > 0.20 or C/T ≤ 0.15. The flow structure measured with C = 0.15T is described in detail and the implications of the data for fluid mixing in stirred vessels are discussed.  相似文献

The effects of impeller eccentricity and Reynolds number on the mixing performance were studied for Rushton turbine stirred tank systems operated in the laminar regime (Re < 10). A digital image analysis of an acid–base decolourization reaction was used to characterize the mixing efficiency. Results show that both parameters have remarkable effects on the destruction of the toroidal segregated regions surrounding the Rushton turbine in laminar flow. Criteria are given to prevent the formation of these segregated regions in a tank. It is also shown that shaft eccentricity does not impact on the impeller power consumption.  相似文献

The way in which the single phase flow of Newtonian liquids in the vicinity of the impeller in a Rushton turbine stirred tank goes through a laminar‐turbulent transition has been studied in detail experimentally (with Particle Image Velocimetry) as well as computationally. For Reynolds numbers equal to or higher than 6000, the average velocities and velocity fluctuation levels scale well with the impeller tip speed, that is, show Reynolds independent behavior. Surprising flow structures were measured—and confirmed through independent experimental repetitions—at Reynolds numbers around 1300. Upon reducing the Reynolds number from values in the fully turbulent regime, the trailing vortex system behind the impeller blades weakens with the upper vortex weakening much stronger than the lower vortex. Simulations with a variety of methods (direct numerical simulations, transitional turbulence modeling) and software implementations (ANSYS‐Fluent commercial software, lattice‐Boltzmann in‐house software) have only partial success in representing the experimentally observed laminar‐turbulent transition. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 3610–3623, 2017  相似文献

高黏度流体处于层流状态时,普遍存在的混合隔离区,降低了流体的混合效率。减小或消除隔离区,是实现流体高效混合的基本途径。采用实验研究与数值模拟相结合的方法,对刚性六直叶涡轮桨(刚性桨)和刚柔组合六直叶涡轮桨(组合桨)的流场结构进行研究,对比分析了两种桨叶在相同功耗(3 kW·m-3)时的轴向、径向和切向的速度矢量图、速度云图以及速度分布散点图。结果表明,刚性桨的能量集中在桨叶尖端部分,远离桨叶区域的流体速度很小甚至为0 m·s-1;而组合桨可将能量从桨叶尖端扩散至全槽,使槽内流体均具有一定的流速,提高了混合效率,且显色实验与数值模拟结果一致,组合桨体系的混合隔离区在短时间内就可消除,混合良好,而刚性桨体系的混合隔离区始终存在,混合效果不佳。  相似文献

A detached eddy simulation (DES), a large‐eddy simulation (LES), and a k‐ε‐based Reynolds averaged Navier‐Stokes (RANS) calculation on the single phase turbulent flow in a fully baffled stirred tank, agitated by a Rushton turbine is presented. The DES used here is based on the Spalart‐Allmaras turbulence model solved on a grid containing about a million control volumes. The standard k‐ε and LES were considered here for comparison purposes. Predictions of the impeller‐angle‐resolved and time‐averaged turbulent flow have been evaluated and compared with data from laser doppler anemometry measurements. The effects of the turbulence model on the predictions of the mean velocity components and the turbulent kinetic energy are most pronounced in the (highly anisotropic) trailing vortex core region, with specifically DES performing well. The LES—that was performed on the same grid as the DES—appears to lack resolution in the boundary layers on the surface of the impeller. The findings suggest that DES provides a more accurate prediction of the features of the turbulent flows in a stirred tank compared with RANS‐based models and at the same time alleviates resolution requirements of LES close to walls. © 2011 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 58: 3224–3241, 2012  相似文献

A characterisation of three commonly used impellers was made in this study by measuring local mean velocities and the fluctuations of these velocities with the LDV technique. The data was used to estimate volumetric flow, velocity fluctuations and turbulent intensity in the impeller region of the tank. The impellers investigated were a high flow impeller, a pitched blade turbine and a Rushton turbine. The cylindrical vessel used was made of Perspex, had a dished bottom (DIN 28013), was equipped with four baffles and had an inner diameter of 0.45 m. It was found that the bulk velocities could be scaled with the tip-speed of the impeller (ND). The flow rate at constant impeller speed increased in the order high flow impeller — Rushton turbine — pitched blade turbine. The corresponding order for the turbulence fluctuation is: high flow impeller — pitched blade turbine — Rushton turbine. The velocity profile of the flow out from the high flow impeller was furthermore, not as smooth as could be expected.  相似文献

为了减小搅拌阻力与功耗,本研究提出了疏水叶片搅拌桨的设想。首先采用数值模拟的方法,对非疏水Rushton桨搅拌容器内的流场进行了模拟,通过与文献中实验结果的对比,验证了数值模型和模拟方法的可靠性。随后研究了湍流状态下疏水Rushton搅拌桨的流体动力学性能,分析了不同疏水状态下的流场结构、剪应力和压力分布以及减阻效果和搅拌功耗,并与非疏水桨进行了对比。结果表明,疏水处理后Rushton桨搅拌容器内的流场没有明显变化,但流体的轴向泵送能力有所增强,高速度区域略有扩大,超疏水时效果更明显。疏水处理可降低Rushton桨的剪应力和桨叶前后表面间的压差,具有减阻效果,超疏水时减阻幅度高达39.56%。另外,疏水Rushton桨的搅拌功耗有所降低,与非疏水桨相比,超疏水桨的功率准数降低了8.53%,具有显著的节能效应。  相似文献

The nitrogen dilution effect on flame stability was experimentally investigated in a lifted non-premixed turbulent hydrogen jet with coaxial air. Hydrogen gas was used as the fuel and coaxial air was injected to initiate flame liftoff. Hydrogen was injected into an axisymmetric inner nozzle (dF = 3.65 mm) and coaxial air jetted from an axisymmetric outer nozzle (dA = 14.1 mm). The fuel jet and coaxial air velocities were fixed at uF = 200 m/s and uA = 16 m/s, while the mole fraction of the nitrogen diluent gas varied from 0.0 to 0.2 with a 0.1 step. For the analysis of the flame structure and the flame stabilization mechanism, the simultaneous measurement of PIV/OH PLIF was performed. The stabilization point was in the region of the flame base with the most upstream region and was defined as the point where the turbulent flame propagation velocity was found to be balanced with the axial component of the local flow velocity. The turbulent flame propagation velocity increased as the nitrogen mixture fraction decreased. The nitrogen dilution makes the flame structure more premixed. That is, the stabilization mechanism shifts from edge flame propagation based mechanism toward premixed flame propagation based mechanism. We concluded that the turbulent flame propagation velocity was expressed as a function of the turbulent intensity and the axial strain rate, even though the mole fraction of the nitrogen diluent varied.  相似文献
