Freedom of mobility is the latesttrend in the evolution of digital communicationsystems. In these systems bandwidth and powerconstraints limit the mobility of the users. TCM(trellis coded modulation) is a combined coding andmodulation scheme which increases the productivity ofa digital communication system without increasing thetransmitted power or the required bandwidth. A mobilecommunication channel is affected from noise andfading because of the multipath propagation. On aRayleigh fading channel, coding should be used withtechniques which uncorrelate the received energy ofeach consecutive coded symbol. Interleaving is one ofthese techniques and used to make burst errors intorandom errors which can be corrected by errorcorrecting codes. In this paper, the trellis codingsystem which combines a regular convolutional encoder, bit interleaver, coordinate interleaver, and anappropriate decoder is considered. The analytical biterror probability upper bounds are derived for the8-PSK TCM system whose diversity is increased by usinga regular 2/3 rate convolutional code followed bythree bit interleavers and a 8-PSK signal mapperfollowed by two coordinate interleavers. Theanalytical and simulation results show that toincrease the diversity of the trellis coded M-PSKsystems in Rayleigh fading channels is the primary keyfor reliable transmission of high quality voice anddigital data.  相似文献

Diversity combining methods for mobile satellite communication systems employing convolutional encoding and soft-decision Viterbi decoding are evaluated. Computer simulation clarifies that the pre-Viterbi-decoding maximal ratio combining method has better performance than other methods in Rician fading channels. The simulation results agree with the Pe (bit error probability) performance derived from the numerical analysis for slow fading using the approximate Pe performance of Viterbi decoding in AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) channels and the probability density function of Rician fading. Applying this diversity method to the multi-beam mobile satellite communication systems, a satellite beam diversity reception scheme is proposed. A computer simulation result shows that the proposed scheme decreases the packet error rate of the control signals to less than 1/100 around the satellite beam boundary  相似文献

A maximum-likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) receiver structure for constant-envelope quadrature pulse-overlapping modulated (QPOM) signals in fading channels is presented. QPOM is first decomposed into a liner encoder followed by a memoryless modulator. The trellis diagram representing this inherent nonredundant coding structure is then used to construct its MLSE receiver. The upper bounds on the average bit error probability in both AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels are derived. Computer simulations are also used to verify the analytical results. In fast-fading shadowed mobile satellite channels the scheme is shown to outperform conventional QPSK techniques. It maintains the low complexity of 4PSK, but its performance is comparable to that of four-state 8PSK TCM schemes. The constant envelope, compact spectrum, superior performance, and low complexity enable QPOM to meet the requirements of low cost, small size, and high power and bandwidth efficiencies for portable/mobile satellite systems  相似文献

We analyze the performance of space-time trellis codes over shadowed Rician fading channels. The shadowed Rician channel is a generalization of the Rician model, where the line-of-sight path is subjected to a lognormal transformation due to foliage attenuation, also referred to as shadowing. Using the moment generating function method, we derive an exact expression for the pairwise error probability (PEP) of space-time trellis coded systems operating over this channel. The asymptotic analysis of PEP shows that the design criteria of space-time trellis codes proposed for Rayleigh fading still hold when used over shadowed Rician channels. We also present simulation results for bit-error rate performance under various degrees of shadowing.  相似文献

Interleaved trellis-coded systems with full response continuous-phase modulation (CPM) are considered. Upper bounds on the bit-error rate performance are derived for coherent detection on the additive white Gaussian noise and flat Rayleigh fading channels by considering the trellis code, interleaver, and CPM modulator as a serially concatenated convolutional code. A coherent receiver that performs iterative demodulation and decoding is shown to provide good bit error performance. Finally, a noncoherent iterative receiver is proposed and is shown to perform close to the coherent iterative receiver  相似文献

The capture phenomenon and its consequences in nonbitsynchronous mobile packet radio networks for binary phase-shift-keying (BPSK) and differential phase-shift-keying modulation are investigated. Exact values of the bit error probability for given signal-to-noise ratios of colliding BPSK signals are derived. Packet error rates, which are needed for analysis of slotted random multiple access methods, are obtained by simulation. Two kinds of mobile radio channels are considered: the Rayleigh fading channel and the land mobile satellite channel. In the latter, because of shadowing, the probability that one of several colliding data packets is correctly received can be on the same order as the probability that a single packet that is not experiencing a collision is correctly received. The influence of Reed-Solomon codes on packet error probabilities is also studied. A slotted ALOHA system using the land mobile satellite channel is analyzed. It is found that with significant shadowing, the overall system throughput may reach the point-to-point throughput. Also, the code rate cannot be optimized in a straightforward manner by assuming one single transmission at a time  相似文献

The authors apply a general method of bounding the event error probability of TCM (trellis-coded modulation) schemes to fading channels and use the effective length and the minimum-squared-product distance to replace the minimum-free-squared-Euclidean distance as code design parameters for Rayleigh and Rician fading channels with a substantial multipath component. They present 8-PSK (phase-shift-keying) trellis codes specifically constructed for fading channels that outperform equivalent codes designed for the AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) channel when v⩾5. For quasiregular trellis codes there exists an efficient algorithm for evaluating event error probability, and numerical results which demonstrate the importance of the effective length as a code design parameter for fading channels with or without side information have been obtained. This is consistent with the case for binary signaling, where the Hamming distance remains the best code design parameter for fading channels. The authors show that the use of Reed-Solomon block codes with expanded signal sets becomes interesting only for large value of Es/N0, where they begin to outperform trellis codes  相似文献

In this letter, we analyze the error performance of a mobile communication system with microdiversity and macrodiversity reception in gamma‐shadowed Rician fading channels for a binary differential phase‐shift keying modulation scheme. Analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF) and moment‐generating function (MGF) are derived. The average bit error probability can be calculated by averaging the conditional bit error probability over the PDF or using the MGF‐based approach. Numerical results are graphically presented to show the effects of macrodiversity, correlation, number of diversity branches, and severity of both fading and shadowing.  相似文献

A code-matched interleaver design for turbo codes in which a particular interleaver is constructed to match the code weight distribution is proposed. The design method is based on the code distance spectrum. The low weight paths in the code trellis which give large contributions to the error probability in the signal-to-noise ratio region of interest for practical communication systems are eliminated so that they do not appear in the overall code trellis after interleaving. The proposed interleaver improves the code error performance at moderate to high signal-to-noise ratio and considerably increases the asymptotic slope of the error probability curves  相似文献

The Canadian mobile satellite (MSAT) channel has been modeled as the sum of lognormal and Rayleigh components to represent foliage attenuation and multipath fading, respectively. Several authors have applied trellis coded modulation (TCM) schemes to this channel, estimating the bit error performance via computer simulation. In the present paper, analytical expressions are derived for the pairwise error probability (PEP) of TCM schemes over this channel under ideal interleaving. The analysis is applied to three detection strategies: ideal coherent detection, pilot-tone aided detection, and differential detection. The results are substantiated by means of computer simulation. In addition, first-order statistics of absolute and differential phases of a shadowed Rician process are examined  相似文献

The selection of interleaver depth for the land-mobile satellite channel is investigated by analyzing the performance of convolutionally encoded BPSK and DPSK over a frequency-nonselective correlated Ricean fading channel. By extending previous analyses of partially interleaved convolutional codes over such channels, a new figure of merit-which is a function of the channel correlation function-is identified. Simulation results for the first-order Butterworth, Jakes (1974), and Divsalar (1991) fading spectra are presented which demonstrate the applicability of the figure of merit as an aid in interleaver design. The figure of merit also tracks the nonmonotonic, or quasi-oscillatory, behavior of the decoded bit error rate with increasing interleaver depths in those situations where this occurs  相似文献

Bit-error bounds for trellis-coded MPSK in mixed fading channels   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Bit-error probability (BEP) bounds of trellis-coded MPSK systems over two classes of mixed fading channels are studied. These two classes of channels have been proposed as candidate models for mobile satellite communications. The first class consists of slow and frequency-nonselective fading channels whose output field strengths follow a probability law characterized by a convex combination of Rician and Rayleigh/lognormal distributions. For the other class of fading channels, the received signal amplitude has a convex combination of Rician and Rician/lognormal distributions. We analyze performance bounds for trellis codes that belong to the class of either geometrically uniform codes (GUCs) or quasi-regular codes (QRCs). Receivers with either ideal channel state information (CSI) or no CSI at all are considered. We examine asymptotic behaviors of these codes and identify key design parameters. Numerical results are provided to illustrate and compare the BEP performances of various codes and to validate the usefulness of the asymptotic analysis  相似文献

Wireless communication systems are subject to short- and long-term fading of the channel. Instead of the commonly used Nakagami–lognormal model to account for the conditions existing in these shadowed fading channels, a compound probability density function (pdf) model is used to evaluate the performance of wireless systems. While the Nakagami–lognormal lacks a closed-form solution to the pdf of the received power in shadowed fading channels, the compound pdf has an analytical expression for the pdf of the received signal power. The synergy between these two models for the analysis of wireless systems is explored by calculating the bit error rate in a DPSK modem as well as the outage probability in a wireless system in a shadowed fading channel. This is followed by the computation of the outage probability in the general case where both the desired and cochannels are subject to shadowing and fading. The analyses were carried out for both fixed number of cochannels and random number of cochannels. Results demonstrate the usefulness of the compound pdf model for the performance analyses of wireless systems in shadowed fading channels.  相似文献

The authors present a new approach to search for the best code and best depth value of the interleaver process for fading channels using genetic algorithms. Traditionally, the optimization of communication systems is performed using an a priori evaluation function and Monte Carlo simulations. However, by the use of a posteriori evaluation functions and genetic algorithms, direct performance of the best codes and best interleaver for fading channels is achieved. The double checking performance associated with the a priori procedure is eliminated by a remarkable simplification of the design of mobile ratio and satellite communication systems. Performance and complexity are also evaluated. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Two continuous phase constant envelope modulation schemes are considered for use in digital mobile radio communication systems. These two schemes, duobinary coded minimum shift keying (MSK) and tamed frequency modulation (TFM), use partial response signaling to achieve efficient power spectrum. Therefore, they are suitable candidates for the application of digital data transmission via mobile radio where spectrum efficiency is an important consideration. The mobile communication channel is characterized by fast Rayleigh fading and cochannel interference resulting from the reuse of the channels. The error rate performance of duobinary coded MSK and TFM has been studied under these environments with noncoherent detection. A closed form expression for the probability of error of duobinary coded MSK with discriminator detection has been derived and evaluated for different cases of fast and slow fading and cochannel interference. The probability of error of duobinary coded MSK and TFM with differential detection has been calculated by numerical integrations for different cases of slow and fast fading and cochannel interference.  相似文献

In high-speed digital mobile radio communication, transmission performance is severely degraded by frequency-selective fading caused by the delay time spread of multipath propagation. Forward error correction (FEC) is one of the most effective techniques to improve transmission quality. The authors evaluate the effect of FEC on burst errors under frequency-selective fading. The FEC effect with diversity reception and interleaving is also investigated.<>  相似文献

We investigate the effect of time delay spread on trellis coded modulation (TCM) in a wireless radio environment where equalization is not employed to mitigate the effects of frequency selective fading when the time delay spread is small. Using a random variable decomposition technique and a Gaussian approximation of the intersymbol interference terms, we obtain explicit bounds for the pairwise error probability of TCM over multipath Rayleigh fading channels characterized by various power delay profiles. A method to calculate an upper bound of the bit error rate (BER) based on Jamali and LeNgoc (1995) bound is also presented. These bounds are used to evaluate TCM performance as well as investigate the delay spread tolerance limit of TCM, including I-Q TCM, over frequency selective fading channels  相似文献
