Different poly(methyl methacrylate/n‐butyl acrylate)/poly(n‐butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate) [P(BA/MMA)/P(MMA/BA)] and poly(n‐butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate)/polystyrene [P(BA/MMA)/PSt] core‐shell structured latexes were prepared by emulsifier‐free emulsion polymerization in the presence of hydrophilic monomer 3‐allyloxy‐2‐hydroxyl‐propanesulfonic salt (AHPS). The particle morphologies of the final latexes and dynamic mechanical properties of the copolymers from final latexes were investigated in detail. With the addition of AHPS, a latex of stable and high‐solid content (60 wt %) was prepared. The diameters of the latex particles are ~0.26 μm for the P(BA/MMA)/P(MMA/BA) system and 0.22–0.24 μm for the P(BA/MMA)/PSt system. All copolymers from the final latexes are two‐phase structure polymers, shown as two glass transition temperatures (Tgs) on dynamic mechanical analysis spectra. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Heterogeneous latexes were prepared by a semicontinuous seeded emulsion polymerization process under monomer starved conditions at 80 °C using potassium persulfate as the initiator and sodium dodecyl sulfate as the emulsifier. Poly(butyl acrylate) latexes were used as seeds. The second‐stage polymer was poly(styrene‐co‐methyl methacrylate). By varying the amounts of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the second‐stage copolymer, the polarity of the copolymer phase could be controlled. Phase separation towards the thermodynamic equilibrium morphology was accelerated either by ageing the composite latex at 80 °C or by adding a chain‐transfer agent during polymerization. The morphologies of the latex particles were examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The morphology distributions of latex particles were described by a statistical method. It was found that the latex particles displayed different equilibrium morphologies depending on the composition of the second‐stage copolymers. This series of equilibrium morphologies of [poly(butyl acrylate)/poly(styrene‐co‐methyl methacrylate)] (PBA/P(St‐co‐MMA)) system provides experimental verification for quantitative simulation. Under limiting conditions, the equilibrium morphologies of PBA/P(St‐co‐MMA) were predicted according to the minimum surface free energy change principle. The particle morphology observed by TEM was in good agreement with the predictions of the thermodynamic model. Therefore, the morphology theory for homopolymer/homopolymer composite systems was extended to homopolymer/copolymer systems. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

An ionic liquid 1‐methyl‐3‐[2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]imidazolium bis(trifluoromethane sulfonylimide) (MMEIm‐TFSI) was synthesized and polymerized. Composite polymer electrolytes based on polymeric MMEIm‐TFSI (PMMEIm‐TFSI) and poly[(methyl methacrylate)‐co‐(vinyl acetate)] (P(MMA‐VAc)) were prepared, with lithium bis(trifluoromethane sulfonylimide) (LiTFSI) as target ions (Li+). DSC/TGA analysis showed good flexibility and thermal stability of the composite electrolyte membranes. The AC impedance showed that the ionic conductivity of the electrolytes increased with PMMEIm‐TFSI up to a maximum value of 1.78 × 10?4 S cm?1 when the composition was 25 wt% P(MMA‐VAc)/75 wt% PMMEIm‐TFSI/30 wt% LiTFSI at 30 °C. The composite electrolyte membrane (transmittance ≥ 90%) can also be used as the ion‐conductive layer material for electrochromic devices, and revealed excellent colorization performance. A core–shell nanosilica (nano‐SiO2)/fluorinated acrylic copolymer latex, where nano‐SiO2 served as the core and a copolymer of butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and 2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl methacrylate (TFEMA) served as the shell, was synthesized in this study by seed emulsion polymerization. The compatibility between the core and shell was enhanced by the introduction of vinyl trimethoxysilane on the surface of nano‐SiO2. The morphology and particle size of the nano‐SiO2/poly(methyl methacrylate–butyl acrylate–2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl methacrylate) [P(MMA–BA–TFEMA)] core–shell latex were characterized by transmission electron microscopy. The properties and surface energy of films formed by the nano‐SiO2/P(MMA–BA–TFEMA) latex were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy/energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, and static contact angle measurement. The analyzed results indicate that the nano‐SiO2/P(MMA–BA–TFEMA) latex presented uniform spherical core–shell particles about 45 nm in diameter. Favorable characteristics in the latex film and the lowest surface energy were obtained with 30 wt % TFEMA; this was due to the optimal migration of fluorine to the surface during film formation. The mechanical properties of the films were significantly improved by 1.0–1.5 wt % modified nano‐SiO2. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

The phase behavior of blends of various polymethacrylates with poly(epichlorohydrin) (PECH); poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO); and a copolymer of epichlorohydrin and ethylene oxide [P(ECH/EO)], was examined using differential scanning calorimetery (DSC), dynamic mechanical properties, and optical indications of phase separation on heating, namely lower critical solution temperature (LCST) behavior. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), was shown to be miscible with PECH, PEO, and P(ECH/EO), while only PECH was found miscible with the higher polymethacrylates: poly(ethyl methacrylate), poly(n-propyl methacrylate), poly(n-butyl methacrylate), and poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate). However, even PECH was found to be only partially miscible with poly(isopropyl methacrylate). In many cases, unusually broad glass transitions were observed by DSC for blends which are believed to be the result of equilibrium composition fluctuations. All mixtures showed LCST behavior and based on this and excess volume measurements, to the extent possible, qualitative conclusions were made concerning the relative strength of the interactions among the various blend pairs. For PECH, it appears that the interaction with polymethacrylates decreases with increasing size of the alkyl pendant group, with poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate) being a possible exception. The interaction with PMMA is apparently about the same for PECH and PEO, but somewhat less for P(ECH/EO). The latter is consistent with an intrachain attraction of ECH and EO believed to exist. The reasons for similar interactions of PEO and PECH with PMMA are not understood; however, it is clear that the chlorine moiety of PECH is needed for miscibility with higher polymethacrylates.  相似文献

Microcapsules based on a phase changing paraffin core and modified titanium dioxide–poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐butyl acrylate) [P(MMA‐co‐BA)] hybrid shell were prepared via a Pickering emulsion method in this study. The microcapsules exhibit an irregularly spherical morphology with the size range of 3–24 µm. The addition of BA can enhance the toughness of the brittle polymer poly(methyl methacrylate) and improve the thermal reliability of the phase change microcapsules. The ratio of BA/MMA is in the range of 0.09–0.14, and the ratio of the monomer/paraffin is varied from 0.45 to 0.60. These microcapsules exhibit a well‐defined morphology and good thermal stability. The actual core content of the microcapsules reaches 36.09%, with an encapsulation efficiency of 73.07%. Furthermore, the prepared microcapsules present the high thermal reliability for latent‐heat storage and release after 2000 thermal cycles. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this study, we first synthesized transparent poly(methyl methacrylate–maleic anhydride) [P(MMA–MAH)] and poly(methyl methacrylate–maleic anhydride–N‐2‐methyl‐4‐nitrophenyl maleimide) [P(MMA–MAH–MI)] via free‐radical polymerization at different monomer ratios. The synthesized polymers were characterized by titration, viscometric, spectroscopy, and thermal analyses. Higher contents of maleic anhydride (MAH) resulted in increases in the viscosity, glass‐transition temperature (Tg), and transparency. The synthesized polymers were then blended with a commercial‐grade poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) used in aviation in the presence of CHCl3. According to the free volume theory, the incorporation of 5 wt % P(MMA–MAH)s or P(MMA–MAH–MI)s into the commercial PMMA resulted in a plasticizing impact on this thermoplastic, which was confirmed by the decrease in the Tg values of the blends with almost the same transparency as the initial PMMA. In fact, the higher the content of MAH was, the lower the Tg of the blends was. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2018 , 135, 46603.  相似文献

The thermal degradation of poly(n‐butyl methacrylate‐co‐alkyl acrylate) was compared with ultrasonic degradation. For this purpose, different compositions of poly (n‐butyl methacrylate‐co‐methyl acrylate) (PBMAMA) and a particular composition of poly(n‐butyl methacrylate‐co‐ethyl acrylate) (PBMAEA) and poly(n‐butyl methacrylate‐co‐butyl acrylate) (PBMABA) were synthesized and characterized. The thermal degradation of polymers shows that the poly(alkyl acrylates) degrade in a single stage by random chain scission and poly(n‐butyl methacrylate) degrades in two stages. The number of stages of thermal degradation of copolymers was same as the majority component of the copolymer. The activation energy corresponding to random chain scission increased and then decreased with an increase of n‐butyl methacrylate fraction in copolymer. The effect of methyl acrylate content, alkyl acrylate substituent, and solvents on the ultrasonic degradation of these copolymers was investigated. A continuous distribution kinetics model was used to determine the degradation rate coefficients. The degradation rate coefficient of PBMAMA varied nonlinearly with n‐butyl methacrylate content. The degradation of poly (n‐butyl methacrylate‐co‐alkyl acrylate) followed the order: PBMAMA < PBMAEA < PBMABA. The variation in the degradation rate constant with composition of the copolymer was discussed in relation to the competing effects of the stretching of the polymer in solution and the electron displacement in the main chain. In this study, an acrylate elastomer with light‐stable functional groups was synthesized by methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA), and a polymerizable UV stabilizer 2‐hydroxy‐4‐(3‐methacryloxy‐2‐hydroxylproroxy) benzophenone (BPMA) via emulsion polymerization, and the product was poly[methyl methacrylate‐co‐butyl acrylate‐co‐2‐hydroxy‐4‐(3‐methacryloxy‐2‐hydroxylproroxy) benzophenone] [poly(MMA‐co‐BA‐co‐BPMA)]. The composition and characteristics of poly (MMA‐co‐BA‐co‐BPMA) were determined by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR), and ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy (UV–vis). Further, the obtained poly(MMA‐co‐BA‐co‐BPMA) was blended with polyoxymethylene (POM) to modify its photostabilization, as well as the mechanical properties of POM composite were tested before and after UV irradiation. The result showed that poly(MMA‐co‐BA‐co‐BPMA) can be dispersed well in the POM matrix, which could play a role of improving compatibility with and toughening for POM, and its light‐stable functional groups could increase the UV resistance of POM composite. Mechanical properties of modified POM were kept well with higher impact strength and elongation at break than pure POM after UV irradiation. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. With monodispersed poly(methyl methacrylate/n‐butyl acrylate/acrylic acid) [P(MMA/BA/AA)] seeded latex with a particle size of 485 nm and a solid content of 50 wt % as a medium, a series of stable P(MMA/BA/AA)/poly(styrene/acrylic acid) composite latexes with a high solid content (70 wt %) and low viscosities (500–1000 mPa · s when the shear rate was 21 s?1) was prepared in situ via simple two‐step semicontinuous monomer adding technology. The coagulum ratio of polymerization was about 0.05 wt %. The particle size distribution of such latexes was bimodal, in which the large particle was about 589 nm and the small one was about 80 nm. The latexes combined good mechanical properties with good film‐forming properties. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that the corresponding latex film had a two‐phase structure. The morphology of the latex film was characterized with atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 1815–1825, 2007  相似文献

Two latices—the poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)/poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐butyl acrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid) system (PA latex) and the PDMS/poly(vinyl acetate‐co‐butyl acrylate) system (PB latex)—were prepared by seeded emulsion polymerization, and PA/PB complex latices were obtained through the interparticle complexation of the PA latex with the PB latex. In addition, for the further study of the interparticle complexation of the PA latex with the PB latex, copolymer latices [PDMS/methyl methacrylate‐co‐butyl acrylate‐co‐vinyl acetate‐co‐methacrylic acid) (PC)] were prepared according to the monomer recipe of the complex latices and the polymerization process of the component latices. The properties of the obtained polymer latices and complex latices were investigated with surface‐tension, contact‐angle, and viscosity measurements. The mechanical properties of the coatings obtained from the latices were investigated with tensile‐strength measurements. The results showed that, in comparison with the two component latices (PA latex and PB latex) and the corresponding copolymer latices (PC latices), the PA/PB complex latices had lower surface tension, lower viscosities, and better wettability to different substrates. The tensile strengths of the coatings obtained from the complex latices were higher than the tensile strengths of the coatings from the two component latices and copolymer latices. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Narrow‐distribution, well‐defined comb‐like amphiphilic copolymers are reported in this work. The copolymers are composed of poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (P(MMA‐co‐HEMA)) as the backbones and poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) as the grafted chains, with the copolymer backbones being synthesized via atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and the grafted chains by oxyanionic polymerization. The copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier‐transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The aggregation behavior in aqueous solutions of the comb‐like amphiphilic copolymers was also investigated. 1H NMR spectroscopic and surface tension measurements all indicated that the copolymers could form micelles in aqueous solutions and they possessed high surface activity. The results of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigations showed that the hydrodynamic diameters of the comb‐like amphiphilic copolymer aggregates increased with dilution. Because of the protonizable properties of the graft chains, the surface activity properties and micellar state can be easily modulated by variations in pH. The purpose of this study was to study the mechanical properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)‐based bone cement incorporated with hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles after surface modification by poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐γ‐methacryloxypropyl timethoxysilane) [P(MMA‐co‐MPS)]. PMMA and P(MMA‐co‐MPS) were synthesized via free‐radical polymerization. P(MMA‐co‐MPS)‐modified hydroxyapatite (m‐HA) was prepared via a dehydration process between silane and HA; the bone cement was then prepared via the in situ free‐radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of PMMA and P(MMA‐co‐MPS)–m‐HA. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, 1H‐NMR, and gel permeation chromatography were used to characterize the P(MMA‐co‐MPS). Thermogravimetric analysis and FTIR were used as quantitative analysis methods to measure the content of P(MMA‐co‐MPS) on the surface of HA. The effect of the proportion of m‐HA in the PMMA‐based bone cement on the mechanical properties was studied with a universal material testing machine. A 3‐(4,5‐dimethylthiazol‐2‐yl)‐2,5‐diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay was also carried out to determine the cytotoxicity of the composite bone cement. The results showed that the surface modification of HA greatly improved the interaction between the inorganic and organic interfaces; this enhanced the mechanical properties of bone cement for potential clinical applications. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Using a two‐stage emulsion polymerization method, a series of poly(methyl methacrylate‐acrylonitrile)/poly(ethyl acrylate‐n‐butyl acrylate) [P(MMA‐AN)/P(EA‐nBA)] latex interpenetrating polymer networks (LIPNs) were synthesized by varying AN content, ratio of network I/network II, crosslinker content, and introducing chain transfer agent. The damping properties of the LIPNs were investigated using a Rheovibron Viscoelastometer. The results indicates that a suitable content of AN can improve the damping properties of the LIPNs. Three kinds of fillers were incorporated into the LPINs, respectively, to measure the change in the damping properties. Mica and TiO2 both increased the damping properties of the LIPNs over the wide temperature range. For TiO2‐filled LIPNs, it was observed that the tan δ values exceeded 0.4 over 112.6°C temperature range from −50 to 72.6°C. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐butyl methacrylate) [P(MMA‐co‐BMA)] nanoparticles were synthesized via emulsion polymerization, and incorporated into natural rubber (NR) by latex compounding. Monodispersed, core‐shell P(MMA‐co‐BMA)/casein nanoparticles (abbreviated as PMBMA‐CA) were produced with casein (CA) as surfactant. The chemical structure of P(MMA‐co‐BMA) copolymers were confirmed by 1H‐NMR and FTIR analyses. Transmission electron microscopy demonstrated the core–shell structure of PMBMA‐CA, and PMBMA‐CA homogenously distributed around NR particles, indicating the interaction between PMBMA‐CA and NR. As a result, the tensile strength and modulus of NR/PMBMA‐CA films were significantly enhanced. The tensile strength was increased by 100% with 10% copolymer addition, when the molar ratio of MMA:BMA was 8:2. In addition, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy results presented that the NR/PMBMA‐CA films exhibited smooth surfaces with low roughness, and PMBMA‐CA was compatible with NR. FTIR‐ATR analyses also suggested fewer PMBMA‐CA nanoparticles migrated out of NR. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2016 , 133, 43843.  相似文献

The long‐afterglow phosphor SrAl2O4 : Eu2+, Dy3+ is liable to hydrolyze in water with deterioration of its luminescent properties. In this study, in situ emulsion polymerization was first used to prepare phosphor coated with poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐butyl acrylate) [P(MMA‐co‐BA)] to improve water resistance. Fourier transform infrared spectra suggested that the polymer attached to the phosphor by chemical bonding. Observation by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that a polymer layer formed on the surface of the phosphor. The resistance to water of the phosphor coated with the polymer layer was much better than that of the uncoated phosphor because the transparent polymer layer could suppress its hydrolysis process. Low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) plastics, doped with long‐afterglow phosphors, were manufactured with an extrusion technique. Through coating with P(MMA‐co‐BA), the compatibility of phosphor with the LDPE matrix was improved, as determined by SEM. The luminous LDPE plastics blended with the phosphor coated with polymer showed long and strong phosphorescence with little loss of persistence phosphorescence compared to the uncoated phosphor. The LDPE plastics still retained their mechanical properties through doping with 3% (mass fraction) of the phosphors. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

The self‐assembly behavior of amphiphilic block copolymers in selective solutions has many applications in environmentally responsive polymer materials. In this article, we report on a new amphiphilic, temperature and pH dual‐responsive poly[2‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate‐co‐(methyl methacrylate)]‐b‐poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate] [P(DMAEMA‐co‐MMA)‐b‐PPEGMA], which was synthesized via reversible addition–fragmentation chain‐transfer polymerization. The structure, self‐assembly behaviors, and process of organic dye adsorption were characterized by 1H‐NMR, ultraviolet–visible absorbance spectroscopy, and DLS measurements. P(DMAEMA‐co‐MMA)‐b‐PPEGMA was proven to be an outstanding adsorbent with excellent reversibility. Methyl red was released from the micelles as the pH value of the solution was adjusted to 4, and it could also be encapsulated again when the pH value was adjusted to 7.4 because of the sensitive pH‐responsive ability. It is promising that the triblock polymer had a positive effect on dye adsorption for environmental protection. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2018 , 135, 46626.  相似文献

Di‐t‐butyl perfumarate (DBPF) was found to induce the radical polymerizations of various vinyl monomers at 60°C in benzene, although the initiation activity was considerably lower than those of dimethyl 2,2′‐azobisisobutyrate and benzoyl peroxide. The polymerizations with DBPF showed a tendency of dead‐end polymerization. The polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with DBPF was kinetically studied in chlorobenzene. The initial polymerization rate (Rp) was given by Rp = k [DBPF]0.5 [MMA]1.1. The overall activation energy of the polymerization was 47 kJ/mol, a very low value. Use of this value and activation energies of propagation and termination for MMA gave an unexpectedly low activation energy (65 kJ/mol) to the decomposition of DBPF, a t‐butyl perester, in the polymerization system. An ESR study on the polymerization of di‐2‐ethylhexyl itaconate with DBPF revealed that the observed dead‐end tendency comes from the consumption of DBPF. These results suggest that the initiator efficiency of DBPF is considerably low in the present polymerization systems. Some solvent effect was observed on the polymerization of MMA with DBPF. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 75: 218–224, 2000  相似文献

The physicomechanical properties of functionally active poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐methyl methacrylate) [poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA)] are evaluated. It has been reported that the surface phosphorylated poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) is capable of eliciting direct bone bonding when implanted in vivo. Hence, it is important to examine the physicomechanical property of the copolymer as a function of surface modification. The properties assessed are differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), equilibrium swelling, compressive strength, and dynamic mechanical analysis. According to the DSC data, the glass transition temperature, Tg of poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) is not significantly altered by surface phosphorylation. The TGA results demonstrated that unmodified and surface phosphorylated copolymers have similar degradation profile. The differential thermal analysis further supports the data. The equilibrium swelling of functionalized poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) in phosphate buffer saline ascertained that surface phosphorylation significantly increased the hydrophilicity of the copolymer. The study further illustrated that the percentage of equilibrium swelling appreciably increases with increase in HEMA content in the copolymer and reached a plateau after 100 h. Both compressive strength and compressive modulus of poly (HEMA‐co‐MMA) decreased due to surface phosphorylation while dynamic storage modulus value was not altered. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
