A simulated textile effluent (STE) was generated for use in laboratory biotreatment studies; this effluent contained one reactive azo dye, PROCION Red H‐E7B (1.5 g dm−3); sizing agent, Tissalys 150 (1.9 g dm−3); sodium chloride (1.5 g dm−3) and acetic acid (0.53 g dm−3) together with nutrients and trace elements, giving a mean COD of 3480 mg dm−3. An inclined tubular anaerobic digester (ITD) was operated for 9 months on the STE and a UASB reactor for 3 months. For a 57 day period anaerobic effluent from two reactors, a UASB and an ITD, was mixed and treated in an aerobic stage. In days 77–247 68% of the true colour of PROCION Red H‐E7B was removed by anaerobic treatment with no colour removal aerobically and up to 37% COD was removed anaerobically, with a corresponding BOD removal of 71%. For combined anaerobic and aerobic treatment a mean COD removal of 57% and BOD removal of 86% was achieved. Operation of the ITD at a 2.8 day HRT (volumetric loading rate (B v) 1.24 g COD dm−3day−1) and the UASB at a 2 day HRT (B v 1.74 g COD dm−3day−1) gave comparable COD removals but the UASB gave better true colour removal. Effluent from the combined process operating on this simulated waste still contained an average 1500 mg COD dm−3, and further treatment would be required to meet consent standards. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The degradation of a non‐inhibitory substrate (sucrose) in upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactors with different superficial flow velocites (us) was performed to generate experimental data. Additionally, a kinetic model accounting for the mass fraction of methanogens (f) and granule size distribution in UASB reactors is also proposed. At the volumetric loadings of 2.65–21.16 g COD dm?3 day?1, both the COD removal efficiency and granule size of the UASB reactors increase with increasing us. The f values determined experimentally increase from 0.13–0.24 to 0.27–0.43 if the volumetric loading is increased from 2.65 to 5.29 g COD dm?3 day?1. With a further increase in volumetric loading, the f values decline because of the accumulation of volatile fatty acids (VFAs). The predicted residual concentrations of VFAs and COD are in fairly good agreement with the experimental data. From the calculated effectiveness‐factor values, the influence of mass transfer resistance of the substrate sucrose on the overall substrate removal rate should not be neglected. From parametric sensitivity analyses together with the simulated concentration profiles, methanogenesis is the rate‐limiting step. Copyright © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

An Intermittent Cycle Extended Aeration System (ICEAS) offers advantages for treating sewage; such as easy operation, process flexibility, and low capital cost. A laboratory‐scale study was made with synthetic‐domestic wastewater (COD = 300 mg dm−3; BOD = 210 mg dm−3) to investigate appropriate conditions for reduced operating cost. The results from this study indicated that the maximum hydraulic loading and organic loading were 3.5 m3 m−3 d−1 and 0.735 kg BOD m−3d−1 respectively. The BOD and COD of effluent were 15.5 mg dm−3 and 29.6 mg dm−3 for the cycle time and aeration time of 3.4 h and 2.65 h. It was not necessary to supply external artificial substrates in the reactor to deal with low wastewater flow that caused the starvation of sludge. Specific oxygen uptake rate (SOUR) was used as the index of microbial activity. The study indicated that the microbial activity could be restored (SOUR = 20.5 mg g−1 MLVSS h−1) after 5–6 days of cultivation when the sludge was deprived of substrate for 17 days. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The feasibility of the expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) system for the treatment of malting waste water under psychrophilic conditions was investigated by operating a pilot-scale 225·5 dm3 EGSB-reactor system in the temperature range from 13 to 20°C. The concentration of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in the malting waste water was between 282 and 1436 mg dm−3. The anaerobically biodegradable COD of the waste water was about 73%, as determined in the batch bioassays. During reactor operation at 16°C, the COD removal efficiencies averaged about 56%, at organic loading rates (OLR) ranging between 4·4 and 8·8 kg COD m−3 day−1 and a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of approximately 2·4 h. At 20°C, removal efficiencies were approximately 66% and 72%, respectively, at OLRs of 8·8 and 14·6 kg COD m−3 day−1, corresponding to HRTs of 2·4 and 1·5 h. The specific methanogenic activity with the sludge from the reactor, assessed on acetate and volatile fatty acids mixture as substrates, significantly increased (80%) in time, indicating an enrichment of methanogens and acetogens even at the low temperatures applied. These findings are of considerable practical importance because they indicate that anaerobic treatment of low strength waste waters at low temperature might become a feasible option. © 1997 SCI.  相似文献

The performance of the hydrolyzation film bed and biological aerated filter (HFB–BAF) combined system in pilot scale (with a daily treatment quantity of 600–1300 m3 d?1), operated for 234 days, for low‐strength domestic sewage was assessed using different amounts of aeration, reflux ratios and hydraulic loading rates (HLR). In steady state it was found that the average removal efficiency of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand at 5 days (BOD5) were 82.0% and 82.2% and the average effluent concentrations were 15.8 mg L?1 and 9.4 mg L?1 respectively as the HFB was running at an HLR of 1.25–1.77 m3 m?2 h?1 and the BAF was running at an HLR of 1.56–2.21 m3 m?2 h?1. In general, the removal efficiency of total nitrogen (TN) fluctuated with the HLR, gas–water ratio and reflux ratio, so the ratio of gas to water should be controlled from 2:1 to 3:1 and the reflux ratio should be as high as possible. The effluent concentration of TN was 10.4 mg L?1 and the TN removal averaged 34.3% when the gas–water ratio was greater than 3:1 and the reflux ratio was 0.5. The effluent concentration and removal efficiency of NH4+‐N averaged respectively 2.3 mg L?1 and 78.5%. The overall reduction of total phosphorus (TP) was 30% and the average effluent concentration was 0.95 mg L?1. The removal efficiency of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) reached 83.8% and the average effluent concentration was almost 0.9 mg L?1. The effluent concentration and removal efficiency of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were 0.0654 µ g L?1 and 37.05% respectively when the influent concentration was 0.1039 µ g L?1. The excess sludge containing water (volume 15 m3) was discharged once every 3 months. The power consumption of aeration was 0.06–0.09 kWh of sewage treated. The results show that the HFB–BAF combined technology is suitable for the treatment of low‐concentration municipal sewage in south China. Copyright © 2005 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

This work describes a comparative study of staged and non-staged anaerobic filters for treating a synthetic dairy waste under similar operating conditions. The effect of increasing the substrate concentration from 3 to 12 g COD dm−3 at a constant hydraulic residence time (HRT) of 2 days was evaluated with respect to overall reactor performance, biogas production, volatile fatty acids profiles along the height, methanogenic and acidogenic activity distribution, and hydrodynamic behaviour. The potential maximum specific methanogenic activity against acetate, hydrogen, propionate and butyrate and the lactose specific activity were determined for sludge sampled from three different points in each reactor, under two operating conditions (influent COD of 3 and 9 g COD dm−3). Although all trophic groups involved in the anaerobic process were found throughout the reactors, it was possible to identify different specific sludges at different heights in both reactors. Performances of the two configurations were very similar under the operating conditions tested and the plug flow behaviour of the staged reactor was clearly reduced when the influent concentration increased from 3 to 9 g COD dm−3. © 1998 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The continuous treatment of domestic wastewater by an activated sludge process and by an integrated biological–chemical (ozone) oxidation process were studied in this work. Chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), absorbance at 254 nm (UV254) and nitrogenous compound content were the parameters followed in order to evaluate the performance of the two processes. Experimental data showed that both UV254 and COD reductions are improved in the combined biological–chemical oxidation procedure. Thus, reductions of 59.1% and 37.2% corresponding to COD and UV254, respectively were observed after the biological process (hydraulic retention time = 5 h; mixed liquor volatile suspended solids concentration = 3142 g m−3) compared with 71.0% and 78.4% obtained when a post‐ozonation step ( D O3 = 41.7 g m−3) was included. During conventional activated sludge treatment, appropriate nitrification levels are only achieved with high hydraulic retention time and/or biomass concentration. Ozonation after the secondary treatment, however, allows improved nitrogen content reduction with total nitrite elimination. Post‐ozonation also leads to a higher biodegradability of the treated wastewater. Thus, the ultimate BOD/COD ratio goes from 0.16 after biological oxidation to 0.34 after post‐ozonation with 41.7 g O3 m−3. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Raw cheese whey originating from white cheese production results in a strong and complex wastewater excessively rich in organic matter (chemical oxygen demand, COD = 28–65 g L?1), fatty matter (14–24.5 g L?1) and acidity (3.9–6.1 g L?1). It was treated in a three‐stage configuration consisting of a pre‐acidification (PA) tank and sequential upflow anaerobic sludge bed reactors (UASBRs) at 2.8–7 g COD L?1 day?1 organic loading rates, during which the effects of effluent recycling at low rates and promoted SRB activity were investigated. Acidification, volatile fatty acids (VFA), COD and fatty matter removal and volatile solids were monitored throughout the system during the study. RESULTS: Recycling of the effluent promoted VFA and COD removal as well as pH stability in both stages of the UASBRs and the effluent where high alkalinity levels were recovered reducing alkali requirement to 0.05 g OH g?1 CODapplied. Higher removal rates of 71–100 and 50–92% for VFA and COD were obtained by use of recycling. Fatty matter was removed at 63–89% throughout the study. Volatile solids build‐up was significant in the inlet zones of the UASBRs. CONCLUSIONS: The system produced efficient acidification in the PA tank, balanced pH levels and an effluent high in alkalinity and BOD/COD ratio. Efficient VFA removal and solids immobilization was obtained in both stages up to the highest loading rate. Recycling improved the system performance under high fatty matter loading conditions. A major advantage of the sequential system was that the second stage UASBR compensated for reduced performance in the first stage. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The direct treatment of whey wastewater at various sludge ages (10–75 days) and high biomass concentration (above 50 g mixed liquor suspended solid (MLSS) dm?3) in a submerged membrane bioreactor (sMBR) is described. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) of raw whey varied in the range of 60 and 90 g dm?3. After feeding the sMBR with raw whey, effluent COD reduced to about 20 g dm?3. The effluent was free of suspended solids and total coliform bacteria. Total phosphorus (TP) and orthophosphate (Ortho‐P) in the influent varied between 204 and 880 mg dm?3 and between 180 and 620 mg dm?3, and effluent TP and Ortho‐P reduced to 113 and 109 mg dm?3, respectively. The ammonium and nitrate concentrations in the influent were in the ranges of 3.4 and 120 mg dm?3 and 10 and 503 mg dm?3, respectively. The effluent ammonium concentration varied between 17.6 and 198 mg dm?3 and nitrate concentrations varied between 0.9 and 69 mg dm?3. Effluent turbidity varied between 23 and 111 FAU (Formazin Attenuation Unit). The results show that sMBR is an effective pre‐treatment system for high‐strength agro‐wastewaters because of its ability to reduce the pollution load. Changes to microbial populations in a two‐phase anaerobic digestion system were studied over 34 weeks. Numbers of autofluorescent methanogenic and non‐methanogenic bacteria decreased significantly during start‐up, but did not change markedly either in the acid reactor or the upflow anaerobic filter for the remainder of the study. Although the proportion of autofluorescent methanogens increased in the acid reactor, the numbers of viable methanogens decreased 590‐fold. The numbers of viable methanogens increased 10‐fold in the port, decreased 10‐fold in the effluent and there was almost no change in the drain of the upflow anaerobic filter. The data indicated that bacterial attachment in the upflow anaerobic filter gave a 90% COD removal and a methane yield of 0.33 m3 CH4 kg−1 COD removed at an organic loading rate of 7 kg COD m−3day−1. Epifluorescence microscopy of the seed sludge revealed a diverse methanogenic population of equally dominant groups of medium rods and filaments with Methanococcus, short rods, long rods and Methanosarcina also present. The medium rod‐shaped species remained the most dominant group in the acid reactor. As the volatile fatty acid concentration increased in the acid reactor the number of Methanosarcina and filament species decreased, becoming the least dominant groups. At the end of the operation, Methanococcus species were the dominant group in the upflow anaerobic filter having been washed from the biofilm. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

BACKGROUND: This study considers batch treatment of saline wastewater in an upflow anaerobic packed bed reactor by salt tolerant anaerobic organisms Halanaerobium lacusrosei . RESULTS: The effects of initial chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration (COD0 = 1880–9570 mg L?1), salt concentration ([NaCl] = 30–100 g L?1) and liquid upflow velocity (Vup = 1.0–8.5 m h?1) on COD removal from salt (NaCl)‐containing synthetic wastewater were investigated. The results indicated that initial COD concentration significantly affects the effluent COD concentration and removal efficiency. COD removal was around 87% at about COD0 = 1880 mg L?1, and efficiency decreased to 43% on increasing COD0 to 9570 mg L?1 at 20 g L?1 salt concentration. COD removal was in the range 50–60% for [NaCl] = 30–60 g L?1 at COD0 = 5200 ± .100 mg L?1. However, removal efficiency dropped to 10% when salt concentration was increased to 100 g L?1. Increasing liquid upflow velocity from Vup = 1.0 m h?1 to 8.5 m h?1 provided a substantial improvement in COD removal. COD concentration decreased from 4343 mg L?1 to 321 mg L?1 at Vup = 8.5 m h?1, resulting in over 92% COD removal at 30 g L?1 salt‐containing synthetic wastewater. CONCLUSION: The experimental results showed that anaerobic treatment of saline wastewater is possible and could result in efficient COD removal by the utilization of halophilic anaerobic bacteria. A study of the effect of organic loading rate on the performance of anaerobic digestion of two‐phase olive mill solid residue (OMSR) was carried out in a laboratory‐scale completely stirred tank reactor. The reactor was operated at an influent substrate concentration of 162 g chemical oxygen demand (COD) dm?3. The organic loading rate (OLR) varied between 0.8 and 11.0 g COD dm?3 d?1. COD removal efficiency decreased from 97.0% to 82.6% when the OLR increased from 0.8 to 8.3 g COD dm?3 d?1. It was found that OLRs higher than 9.2 g COD dm?3 d?1 favoured process failure, decreasing pH, COD removal efficiency and methane production rates (QM). Empirical equations described the effect of OLR on the process stability and the effect of soluble organic matter concentration on the total volatile fatty acids (TVFA)/total alkalinity (TAlk) ratio (ρ). The results obtained demonstrated that rates of substrate uptake were correlated with concentration of biodegradable COD, through an equation of the Michaelis–Menten type. The kinetic equation obtained was used to simulate the anaerobic digestion process of this residue and to obtain the theoretical COD degradation rates in the reactor. The small deviations obtained (equal to or lower than 10%) between values calculated through the model and experimental values suggest that the proposed model predicts the behaviour of the reactor accurately. This study deals with the degradation of phenolic compounds in olive oil mill waste; a highly polluting material in olive oil‐producing countries because of its abundance and the toxicity of its phenolic compound content. This investigation confirms the ability of an isolated yeast, identified as Trichosporon cutaneum, to degrade phenolic compounds extracted from olive mill waste water (OMW). The yeast was adapted to the OMW by an enrichment culture. The results of this biotransformation were a decrease in the phenolic content and hence a reduction in the phytotoxic effects of the effluent after the yeast treatment. The kinetic growth of the isolated yeast on phenol over a range of concentrations (0.3–3.0 g dm?3) was studied. The ability of the strain to assimilate simple monomeric phenols and alkyl phenols, at a concentration of 1 g dm?3, in a synthetic liquid medium used as the sole carbon source was investigated in a batch culture. The aromatic ring cleavage pathway occurred in the yeast through catechol oxidation. Using various concentrations of ethyl acetate extract from OMW as the sole carbon source, the yeast exhibited growth on the substrate up to 7 g dm?3 equivalent of phenols. A significant reduction of COD after the treatment of the OMW extract by the yeast isolate was noticed. The removal of phenol and COD exceeded 80% of the original loading after 8 days of treatment, for extracts containing initial COD in the range 19 to 72 g dm?3. Aerobic degradation or polishing is an essential step in the combined anaerobic/aerobic treatment of wastewater. In this study, a type of porous glass beads was used for immobilization of microbial cells in a three‐phase aerobic fluidized bed reactor (AFBR) with an external liquid circulation. The effects of superficial gas and liquid velocities on bed expansion, solid and gas hold‐ups and specific oxygen mass transfer rate, kLa, were investigated. A tracer study showed that the mixing and flow pattern in the 8 dm3 reactor could be simulated by a non‐ideal model of two continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) in series. By treating an effluent from an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) digester, the distribution of suspended and immobilized biomass in the reactor as well as the kinetics of COD removal were determined. The specific oxygen mass transfer rate, kLa, at a superficial gas velocity of 0.7 cm s−1 dropped by about 30% from 32 h−1 in tap water to 22 h−1 after a carrier load of 15% (v/v) was added. The measured kLa further dropped by about 20% to 18 h−1 in the wastewater, a typical value of the bubbling fermenters with no stirring. Compared with the aerobic heterotrophs under optimum growth conditions, the microbes in this reactor which was fed with anaerobic effluent plus biomass behaved like oligotrophs and showed slow specific COD removal rates. This might be attributed to the presence of a significant amount of obligate anaerobes and facultative organisms in the aerobic reactor. This was confirmed by a relatively low intrinsic oxygen uptake rate of the microbial population in the reactor, 94 mg O2 dm−3 h−1 or 19 mg O2g VS−1 h−1. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Aerobic treatment of refinery wastewater was carried out in a 200 dm3 gas–liquid–solid three‐phase flow airlift loop bioreactor, in which a biological membrane replaced the activated sludge. The influences of temperature, pH, gas–liquid ratio and hydraulic residence time on the reductions in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and NH4‐N were investigated and discussed. The optimum operation conditions were obtained as temperature of 25–35 °C, pH value of 7.0–8.0, gas–liquid ratio of 50 and hydraulic residence time of 4 h. The radial and axial positions had little influence on the local profiles of COD and NH4‐N. Under the optimum operating conditions, the effluent COD and NH4‐N were less than 100 mg dm?3 and 15 mg dm?3 respectively for more than 40 days, satisfying the national primary discharge standard of China (GB 8978‐1996). Thermophilic anaerobic treatment of hot vegetable processing wastewaters was studied in laboratory-scale UASB reactors at 55°C. The high-strength wastewater streams, deriving from steam peeling and blanching of carrot, potato and swede were used. The reactors were inoculated with mesophilic granular sludge. Stable thermophilic methanogenesis with about 60% COD removal was reached within 28 days. During the 134 day study period the loading rate was increased up to 24 kg COD m−3 day−1. High treatment efficiency of more than 90% COD removal and concomitant methane production of 7·3 m3 CH4 m−3 day−1 were achieved. The anaerobic process performance was not affected by the changes in the wastewater due to the different processed vegetables. The results demonstrated the feasibility of thermophilic anaerobic treatment of vegetable processing wastewaters in UASB reactors. © 1997 SCI.  相似文献

In this study, two full‐scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors, namely TUASB and CUASB, at the wastewater treatment plants of the Tekirdaǧ Alcohol (Raki) and Canakkale Alcohol (Cognac) distilleries were investigated in terms of performance, acetoclastic methanogenic capacity and microbial composition. The results were compared with a previously studied other UASB reactor (IUASB) at the wastewater treatment plant of the Istanbul Alcohol (Raki) Distillery from which the two reactors (TUASB and CUASB) were seeded. The IUASB reactor performed well achieving COD removal efficiencies of no lower than 85% at organic logding rates (OLRs) in the range of 6–11 kg COD m−3 day−1 between 1996 and 2001. During the last one year of operation, between 2000 and 2001, performance of the CUASB reactor in terms of COD removal efficiency was 70–80% at OLRs in a range of 1–4.5 kg COD m−3 day−1 whereas it was 60–80% at OLRs in a range of 2.5–8.5 kg COD m−3 day−1 in the TUASB reactor. At the end of year 2000, specific methanogenic activity (SMA) tests were carried out to determine potential loading capacity and optimum operating conditions of the IUASB, CUASB and TUASB reactors. The potential methane production (PMP) rates of the CUASB, IUASB and TUASB reactors were measured as 230 cm3 CH4 gVSS−1 day−1, 350 cm3 CH4 gVSS−1 day−1 and 376 cm3 CH4 gVSS−1 day−1 respectively. When the PMP rates were compared with actual methane production (AMP) rates obtained from the three UASB reactors, AMP/PMP ratios were evaluated to be 0.18, 0.12 and 0.13 for CUASB, TUASB and IUASB reactors respectively. This showed that the CUASB, TUASB and IUASB reactors were using only 18%, 12% and 13% of their potential acetoclastic methanogenic capacity respectively. These results can be interpreted that the three UASB reactors were underloaded compared with their potential acetoclastic methanogenic capacities. It was, therefore, recommended that the three UASB reactors should be loaded at higher organic loading rates or sludge withdrawn in order to maintain an AMP/PMP ratio of 0.6–0.7, which can ensure desired reactor performance with safer operation. Results of epifluoresence microscopic examinations showed that the percentage of total autofluorescent methanogens was approximately 30% of the total population in sludges from the TUASB and IUASB reactors whereas it was 20% in sludge from the CUASB reactor. The two UASB reactors treating raki distillery wastewaters contained sludges having a higher percentage of autofluorescent methanogenic population and higher acetoclastic methanogenic activity. The fluidised bed cell of inert glass beads is an electrolytic reactor which is designed to provide higher ion‐transfer conditions during electrolysis, thus enabling metals to be removed efficiently from dilute solutions. The effectiveness of the method as a means of removing metals from effluent to meet discharge consent levels is studied for the in situ removal of tin from dilute solution (concentration range 0.25–1.00 gdm−3). The results show that the combination of high mass transport conditions and a moderately high electrode surface area per unit electrode volume provides a system for continuous removal of metal from dilute solutions. The effects of acid concentration, tin concentration, current density, fluidised bed agitation, electrode spacing, type of electrode and lead impurities on the removal of tin are reported and expressed in terms of the percentage removal of tin (αSn), the efficiency of tin deposition (ϕSn), and the energy consumption (WSn) for 1 kg of tin deposited. The results show that tin can, under optimised conditions, be removed from dilute solutions to a residual concentration of 0.001 gdm−3. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Biological systems for the treatment of wastewater have to provide optimum sludge retention to achieve high removal efficiencies. In the case of slow‐growing micro‐organisms, such as anaerobic ammonia‐oxidizing (Anammox) bacteria, episodes of flotation involving biomass wash‐out are especially critical. In this study a strategy based on the introduction of a mix period in the operational cycle of the Anammox Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) was tested for its effects on biomass retention and nitrite removal. Using this new cycle distribution the biomass retention inside the reactor improved as the solids concentration in the effluent of the SBR decreased from 20–45 to 5–10 mg VSS dm?3 and the biomass concentration inside the reactor increased from 1.30 to 2.53 g VSS dm?3 in a period of 25 days. A decrease of the sludge volume index (SVI) from 108 to 60 cm3 g VSS?1 was also observed. Complete depletion of nitrite was achieved in the reactor only with the new cycle distribution treating nitrogen loading rates (g N‐NO2? + g N‐NH4+ dm?3 d?1) up to 0.60 g N dm?3 d?1. The ozonation of wastewater supplied from a treatment plant (Samples A and B) and dye‐bath effluent (Sample C) from a dyeing and finishing mill and acid dye solutions in a semi‐batch reactor has been examined to explore the impact of ozone dose, pH, and initial dye concentration. Results revealed that the apparent rate constants were raised with increases in applied ozone dose and pH, and decreases in initial dye concentration. While the color removal efficiencies of both wastewater Samples A and C for 15 min ozonation at high ozone dosage were 95 and 97%, respectively, these were 81 and 87%, respectively at low ozone dosage. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) removal efficiencies at several ozone dose applications for a 15 min ozonation time were in the ranges of 15–46% and 10–20%, respectively for Sample A and 15–33% and 9–19% respectively for Sample C. Ozone consumption per unit color, COD and DOC removal at any time was found to be almost the same while the applied ozone dose was different. Ozonation could improve the BOD5 (biological oxygen demand) COD ratio of Sample A by 1.6 times with 300 mg dm?3 ozone consumption. Ozonation of acid dyes was a pseudo‐first order reaction with respect to dye. Increases in dye concentration increased specific ozone consumption. Specific ozone consumption for Acid Red 183 (AR‐183) dye solution with a concentration of 50 mg dm?3 rose from 0.32 to 0.72 mg‐O3 per mg dye decomposed as the dye concentration was increased to 500 mg dm?3. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
