Poly(p‐dioxanone)–poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(p‐dioxanone) ABA triblock copolymers (PEDO) were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization from p‐dioxanone using poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with different molecular weights as macroinitiators in N2 atmosphere. The copolymer was characterized by 1H NMR spectroscope. The thermal behavior, crystallization, and thermal stability of these copolymers were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric measurements. The water absorption of these copolymers was also measured. The results indicated that the content and length of PEG chain have a greater effect on the properties of copolymers. This kind of biodegradable copolymer will find a potential application in biomedical materials. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 102:1092–1097, 2006  相似文献

Two series of poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) triblock copolymers were prepared by the ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) and dibutylmagnesium in 1,4‐dioxane solution at 70°C. The triblock structure and molecular weight of the copolymers were analyzed and confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR, and gel permeation chromatography. The crystallization and thermal properties of the copolymers were investigated by wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results illustrated that the crystallization and melting behaviors of the copolymers were depended on the copolymer composition and the relative length of each block in copolymers. Crystallization exothermal peaks (Tc) and melting endothermic peaks (Tm) of PEG block were significantly influenced by the relative length of PCL blocks, due to the hindrance of the lateral PCL blocks. With increasing of the length of PCL blocks, the diffraction and the melting peak of PEG block disappeared gradually in the WAXD patterns and DSC curves, respectively. In contrast, the crystallization of PCL blocks was not suppressed by the middle PEG block. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Compared with linear diblock or triblock poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(L ‐lactic acid) copolymer (PEG‐b‐PLLA), star‐shaped PEG‐b‐PLLA (sPEG‐b‐PLLA) copolymers exhibit smaller hydrodynamic radius and lower viscosity and are expected to display peculiar morphologies, thermal properties, and degradation profiles. Compared with the synthesis routine of PEG‐b‐PLLA form lactide and PEG, the traditional synthesis routine from LA and PEG were suffered by the low reaction efficiency, low purity, lower molecular weight, and wide molecular weight distribution. In this article, multiarm sPEG‐b‐PLLA copolymer was prepared from multiarm sPEG and L ‐lactic acid (LLA using an improved method of melt polycondensation, in which two types of sPEG, that is, sPEG1 (four arm, Mn = 4300) and sPEG2 (three arm, Mn = 3200) were chosen as the core. It was found the molecular weight of sPEG‐b‐PLLA could be strongly affected by the purity of LLA and sPEGs, and the purification technology of vacuum dewater and vacuum distillation could help to remove most of the impurities in commercial available LLA. The polymers, including sPEG and sPEG‐b‐PLLA with varied core (sPEG1 and sPEG2) and LLA/sPEG feeding ratios, were characterized and confirmed by 1H‐NMR and 13C‐NMR spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) and gel permeation chromatography, which showed that the terminal hydroxyl group in each arm of sPEGs had reacted with LLA to form sPEG‐b‐PLLA copolymers with fairly narrow molecular weight distribution. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(butylene 2,6‐naphthalate) (PBN)/poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) copolymers were synthesized by the two‐step melt copolymerization process of dimethyl‐2,6‐naphthalenedicarboxylate (2,6‐NDC) with 1,4‐butanediol (BD) and PEG. The copolymers produced had different PEG molecular weights and contents. The structures, thermal properties, and hydrophilicities of these copolymers were studied by 1H NMR, DSC, TGA, and by contact angle and moisture content measurements. In particular, the intrinsic viscosities of PBN/PEG copolymers increased with increasing PEG molecular weights, but the melting temperatures (Tm), the cold crystallization temperatures (Tcc), and the heat of fusion (ΔHf) values of PBN/PEG copolymers decreased on increasing PEG contents or molecular weights. The thermal stabilities of the copolymers were unaffected by PEG content or molecular weight. Hydrophilicities as determined by contact angle and moisture content measurements were found to be significantly increased on increasing PEG contents and molecular weights. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(methyl methacrylate)‐poly(L ‐lactic acid)‐poly(methyl methacrylate) tri‐block copolymer was prepared using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The structure and properties of the copolymer were analyzed using infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR), thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The kinetic plot for the ATRP of methyl methacrylate using poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) as the initiator shows that the reaction time increases linearly with ln[M]0/[M]. The results indicate that it is possible to achieve grafted chains with well‐defined molecular weights, and block copolymers with narrowed molecular weight distributions. The thermal stability of PLLA is improved by copolymerization. A new wash‐extraction method for removing copper from the ATRP has also exhibits satisfactory results. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Atactic poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (a‐PHB) and block copolymers of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐b‐PEG) were synthesized through anionic polymerization and coordination polymerization, respectively. As demonstrated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) measurements, both chemosynthesized a‐PHB and biosynthesized isotactic PHB (i‐PHB) are miscible with the PEG segment phase of PCL‐b‐PEGs. However, there is no evidence showing miscibility between both PHBs and the PCL segment phase of the copolymer even though PCL has been block‐copolymerized with PEG. Based on these results, PCL‐b‐PEG was added, as a compatibilizer, to both the PCL/a‐PHB blends and the PCL i‐PHB blends. The blend films were obtained through the evaporation of chloroform solutions of mixed components. Excitingly, the improvement in mechanical properties of PCL/PHB blends was achieved as anticipated initially upon the addition of PCL‐b‐PEG. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(l ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) is a good biomedical polymer material with wide applications. The addition of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as a plasticizer and the formation of stereocomplex crystals (SCs) have been proved to be effective methods for improving the crystallization of PLLA, which will promote its heat resistance. In this work, the crystallization behavior of PEG and PLLA/poly(d ‐lactic acid) (PDLA) in PLLA/PDLA/PEG and PEG‐b‐PLLA/PEG‐b‐PDLA blends has been investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy and X‐ray diffraction. Both SCs and homocrystals (HCs) were observed in blends with asymmetric mass ratio of PLLA/PDLA, while exclusively SCs were observed in blends with approximately equal mass ratio of PLLA/PDLA. The crystallization of PEG was only observed for the symmetric blends of PLLA39k/PDLA35k/PEG2k, PLLA39k/PDLA35k/PEG5k, PLLA69k/PDLA96k/PEG5k and PEG‐b‐PLLA31k/PEG‐b‐PDLA27k, where the mass ratio of PLLA/PDLA was approximately 1/1. The results demonstrated that the formation of exclusively SCs would facilitate the crystallization of PEG, while the existence of both HCs and SCs could restrict the crystallization of PEG. The crystallization of PEG is related to the crystallinity of PLLA and PDLA, which will be promoted by the formation of SCs. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Biodegradable and photocurable multiblock copolymers of various compositions were synthesized by the high‐temperature solution polycondensation of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) diols of molecular weight (Mn) = 3000 and poly(ethylene glycol)s (PEG) of Mn = 3000 with a dichloride of 5‐cinnamoyloxyisophthalic acid (ICA) as a chain extender, followed by irradiation by a 400 W high‐pressure mercury lamp (λ > 280 nm) to form a network structure. The gel contents increased with photocuring time, reaching a level of over 90% after 10 min for all copolymers without a photoinitiator. The thermal and mechanical properties of the photocured copolymers were examined by DSC and tensile tests. In cyclic thermomechanical tensile tests, the photocured ICA/PCL/PEG copolymer films showed good shape‐memory properties at 37–60°C, with both shape fixity ratio and shape recovery ratio over 90% at a maximum tensile strain of 100–300%. The water absorption of these copolymers and their rate of degradation in a phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.0) at 37°C increased significantly with increasing PEG content. The novel photocured ICA/PCL/PEG multiblock copolymers are potentially useful in biomedical applications. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

A series of poly(?‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL‐b‐PEG) block copolymers with different molecular weights were synthesized with a salicylaldimine‐aluminum complex in the presence of monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol). The block copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, GPC, WAXD, and DSC. The 1H NMR and GPC results verify the block structure and narrow molecular weight distribution of the block copolymers. WAXD and DSC results show that crystallization behavior of the block copolymers varies with the composition. When the PCL block is extremely short, only the PEG block is crystallizable. With further increase in the length of the PCL block, both blocks can crystallize. The PCL crystallizes prior to the PEG block and has a stronger suppression effect on crystallization of the PEG block, while the PEG block only exerts a relatively weak adverse effect on crystallization of the PCL block. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermal degradation of poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate) [P(HB‐HV)] was studied using thermogravimetry (TG). In the thermal degradation of PHB, the temperature at the onset of weight loss (To) was derived by To = 0.97B + 259, where B represents the heating rate (°C/min). The temperature at which the weight loss rate was maximum (Tp) was Tp = 1.07B + 273, and the final temperature (Tf) at which degradation was completed was Tf = 1.10B + 280. The percentage of the weight loss at temperature Tp (Cp) was 69 ± 1% whereas the percentage of the weight loss at temperature Tf (Cf) was 96 ± 1%. In the thermal degradation of P(HB‐HV) (7:3), To = 0.98B + 262, Tp = 1.00B + 278, and Tf = 1.12B + 285. The values of Cp and Cf were 62 ± 7 and 93 ± 1%, respectively. The derivative thermogravimetric (DTG) curves of PHB confirmed only one weight loss step change because the polymer mainly consisted of the HB monomer only. The DTG curves of P(HB‐HV), however, suggested multiple weight loss step changes; this was probably due to the different evaporation rates of the two monomers. The incorporation of 10 and 30 mol % of the HV component into the polyester increased the various thermal temperatures (To, Tp, andTf) by 7–12°C (measured at B = 20°C/min). © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this study, synthesis, characterization, partial hydrolysis, and salt formation of poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate)‐co‐poly(4‐vinyl pyridine), (poly(HEMA)‐co‐poly‐(4‐VP)) copolymers were investigated. The copolymers were synthesized by free radical polymerization using K2S2O8 as an initiator. By varying the monomer/initiator ratio, chain lengths of the copolymers were changed. The copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), viscosity measurements, 1H and 13C NMR and FTIR spectroscopies, elemental analysis, and end group analysis methods. The copolymers were partially hydrolyzed by p‐toluene sulfonic acid monohydrate (PTSA·H2O) and washed with LiOH(aq) solution to prepare electrorheological (ER) active ionomers, poly(Li‐HEMA)‐co‐poly(4‐VP). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Various problems, including high crystallinity, high melting temperature, poor thermal stability, hydrophobicity and brittleness, have impeded many practical applications of poly[(3‐hydroxybutyrate)‐co‐(3‐hydroxyvalerate)] (PHBV) as an environmentally friendly material and biomedical material. In the work reported here, multi‐block copolymers containing PHBV and poly(ethylene glycol) (PHBV‐b‐PEG) were synthesized with telechelic hydroxylated PHBV as a hard and hydrophobic segment, PEG as a soft and hydrophilic segment and 1,6‐hexamethylene diisocyanate as a coupling reagent to solve the problems mentioned above. PHBV and PEG blocks in PHBV‐b‐PEG formed separate crystalline phases with lower crystallinity levels and lower melting temperatures than those of phases formed in the precursors. The crystallite dimensions of the two blocks in PHBV‐b‐PEG were smaller than those of the corresponding precursors. Compared to values for the original PHBV, the maximum decomposition temperature of the PHBV block in PHBV‐b‐PEG was 16.0 °C higher and the water contact angle was 9° lower. In addition, the elongation at break was 2.8% for a pure PHBV fiber but 20.9% for a PHBV/PHBV‐b‐PEG fiber with a PHBV‐b‐PEG content of 30%. PHBV‐b‐PEGs can overcome some of the disadvantages of pure PHBV; it is possible that PHBV might be a good candidate for the formulation of environmentally friendly materials and biomedical materials. The suitability of different types of telechelic poly(lactic acid) (PLA) copolymers for dilactide production and prepolymer products was evaluated. L ‐lactic acid (L ‐LA) was copolymerized with 1,4‐butanediol, pentaerythritol, adipic acid, or 1,2,3,4‐butanetetracarboxylic acid (1,2,3,4‐BTCA). The influence of branching, the choice of catalyst, and the type of terminal groups on the properties and the thermal stability of the end product was determined. Carboxyl‐termination of PLA was shown to lead to higher molar masses than hydroxyl‐termination. The observed differences in the molar masses were explained by the lower thermal stability of the hydroxyl‐terminated PLA, as evidenced by the faster depolymerization rate of the hydroxyl‐terminated polymers and their higher tendency to undergo racemization. Sn(Oct)2 was found to be a more effective copolymerization catalyst than Fe(OAc)2 in terms of the final molar masses obtained. It was additionally found that the amount of chains not attached to the comonomers decreased toward longer polymerization times and was typically higher for the hydroxyl‐terminated copolymers. The results suggest that predominant carboxyl‐termination would increase the thermal stability of PLA polymers, whereas hydroxyl‐termination could be utilized to increase the production speed and efficiency of dilactide. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. BACKGROUND: The aim of this work was to develop polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) for blood contact applications, and to study their self‐assembly behavior in aqueous solution when the PHAs are incorporated with hydrophilic segments. To do this, poly(ester‐urethane) (PU) multiblock copolymers were prepared from hydroxyl‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydroxylated poly[(R)‐3‐hydroxyalkanoate] (PHA‐diol) using 1,6‐hexamethylene diisocyanate as a coupling reagent. The PEG segment functions as a soft, hydrophilic and crystalline portion and the poly[(R)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate] segment behaves as a hard, hydrophobic and crystalline portion. In another series of PU multiblock copolymers, crystalline PEG and completely amorphous poly[((R)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate)‐co‐(4‐hydroxybutyrate)] behaved as hydrophobic and hydrophilic segments, respectively. RESULTS: The formation of a PU series of block copolymers was confirmed by NMR, gel permeation chromatography and infrared analyses. The thermal properties showed enhanced thermal stability with semi‐crystalline morphology via incorporation of PEG. Interestingly, the changes of the hydrophilic/hydrophobic ratio led to different formations in oil‐in‐water emulsion and surface patterning behavior when cast into films. Blood compatibility was also increased with increasing PEG content compared with PHA‐only polymers. CONCLUSION: For the first time, PHA‐based PU block copolymers have been investigated in terms of their blood compatibility and aggregation behavior in aqueous solution. Novel amphiphilic materials with good biocompatibility for possible blood contact applications with hydrogel properties were obtained. Copyright © 2008 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The crystallization kinetics of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), and their copolymers poly(1,4‐butylene‐co‐ethylene terephthalate) (PBET) containing 70/30, 65/35 and 60/40 molar ratios of 1,4‐butanediol/ethylene glycol were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at crystallization temperatures (Tc) which were 35–90 °C below equilibrium melting temperature . Although these copolymers contain both monomers in high proportion, DSC data revealed for copolymer crystallization behaviour. The reason for such copolymers being able to crystallize could be due to the similar chemical structures of 1,4‐butanediol and ethylene glycol. DSC results for isothermal crystallization revealed that random copolymers had a lower degree of crystallinity and lower crystallite growth rate than those of homopolymers. DSC heating scans, after completion of isothermal crystallization, showed triple melting endotherms for all these polyesters, similar to those of other polymers as reported in the literature. The crystallization isotherms followed the Avrami equation with an exponent n of 2–2.5 for PET and 2.5–3.0 for PBT and PBETs. Analyses of the Lauritzen–Hoffman equation for DSC isothermal crystallization data revealed that PBT and PET had higher growth rate constant Go, and nucleation constant Kg than those of PBET copolymers. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA), poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), and their films without or blended with 50 wt% poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were prepared by solution casting. Porous films were obtained by water‐extraction of PEG from solution‐cast phase‐separated PLLA‐blend‐PCL‐blend‐PEG films. The effects of PLLA/PCL ratio on the morphology of the porous films and the effects of PLLA/PCL ratio and pores on the physical properties and biodegradability of the films were investigated. The pore size of the blend films decreased with increasing PLLA/PCL ratio. Polymer blending and pore formation gave biodegradable PLLA‐blend‐PCL materials with a wide variety of tensile properties with Young's modulus in the range of 0.07–1.4 GPa and elongation at break in the range 3–380%. Pore formation markedly increased the PLLA crystallinity of porous films, except for low PLLA/PCL ratio. Polymer blending as well as pore formation enhanced the enzymatic degradation of biodegradable polyester blends. Copyright © 2006 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A new class of optically active poly(amide–imide–urethane)s (PAIUs) was synthesized via a two‐step diisocyanate route under microwave irradiation. In these reactions, 4,4′‐methylene‐bis(4‐phenylisocyanate) was reacted with bis(p‐amido benzoic acid)‐N‐trimellitylimido‐L ‐leucine and poly(ethylene glycol diol)s (PEGs), such as PEG‐400, PEG‐600, PEG‐1000, and PEG‐2000, to furnish a series of new PAIUs. The effects of different reaction conditions, such as the method of preparation (polyol or acid chain extension), the prepolymerization step (NCO‐terminated oligoamide or NCO‐terminated polyether polyol), the irradiation time and power, the reaction solvent, the soft‐segment length, and the presence or absence of reaction catalysts (e.g., triethylamine, pyridine, and dibutyltin dilaurate), on the properties of the copolymers, including the solubility, viscosity, and thermal behavior, were investigated. The resulting multiblock copolymers had inherent viscosities of 0.15–0.53 dL/g. These multiblock copolymers were optically active, thermally stable, and soluble in amide‐type solvents. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 98: 1781–1792, 2005  相似文献

Polystyrene terminated with benzyl alcohol units was employed as a macroinitiator for ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone and L ‐lactide to yield AB‐ and ABC‐type block copolymers. Even though there are many reports on the diblock copolymers of poly(styrene‐block‐lactide) and poly(styrene‐block‐lactone), this is the first report on the poly(styrene‐block‐lactone‐block‐lactide) triblock copolymer consisting of two semicrystalline and degradable segments. The triblock copolymers exhibited twin melting behavior in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis with thermal transitions corresponding to each of the lactone and lactide blocks. The block derived from ε‐caprolactone also showed crystallization transitions upon cooling from the melt. In the DSC analysis, one of the triblock copolymers showed an exothermic transition well above the melting temperature upon cooling. Thermogravimetric analysis of these block copolymers showed a two‐step degradation curve for the diblock copolymer and a three‐step degradation for the triblock copolymer with each of the degradation steps associated with each segment of the block copolymers. The present study shows that it is possible to make pure triblock copolymers with two semicrystalline segments which also consist of degradable blocks. CO2 sorption and diffusion in poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) and three poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate) copolymers were investigated gravimetrically at temperatures from 25° to 50°C and pressures up to 1 atm. The sorption behavior proved to be linear for all the copolymers studied. An additional set of measurements performed in a pressure decay apparatus at 35°C showed that the linearity could be extrapolated to pressures up to 25 atm. The sorption results obtained from both techniques were in good agreement. The poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate) sorption kinetics were increasingly non‐Fickian at the higher temperatures, thus preventing the calculation of diffusion coefficients above 35°C. Interestingly, this was not the case for poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate), and diffusion coefficients and permeabilities could be calculated at all of the investigated temperatures. The 35°C permeabilities were fairly low, which is attributed to the high degree of crystallinity of this polyester family. Finally, the poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) barrier properties against CO2 are successfully compared with those of some selected common thermoplastics. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of novel ABA‐type block copolymers were synthesized by polymerization of trans‐4‐hydroxy‐L ‐proline (HyP) in the presence of various molecular weight poly(ethylene glycol)s (PEGs), a bifunctional OH‐terminated PEG using stannous octoate as catalyst. The optimal reaction conditions for the synthesis of the copolymers were obtained with 5 wt % stannous octoate at 140°C under vacuum (20 mmHg) for 24 h. The synthesized copolymers were characterized by IR spectroohotometry, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, differential scanning calorimetry, and Ubbelohde viscometer. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the copolymers shifted to significantly higher temperature with increasing the number average degree of polymerization and HyP/PEO molar ratio. In contrast, the melting temperature (Tm) decreased with increasing the HyP/PEO molar ratio. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 81: 1581–1587, 2001  相似文献
