Knowledge of a machine tool axis to axis geometric location errors allows compensation and corrective actions to be taken to enhance its volumetric accuracy. Several procedures exist, involving either lengthy individual test for each geometric error or faster single tests to identify all errors at once.This study focuses on the closed kinematic chain method which uses a single setup test to identify the eight link errors of a five axis machine tool. The identification is based on volumetric error measurements for different poses with a non-contact Cartesian measuring instrument called CapBall, developed in house.In order to evaluate the uncertainty on each identified error, a multi-output Monte Carlo approach is implemented. Uncertainty sources in the measurement and identification chain – such as sensors output, machine drift and frame transformation uncertainties – can be included in the model and propagated to the identified errors. The estimated uncertainties are finally compared to experimental results to assess the method. It also reveals that the effect of the drift, a disturbance, must be simulated as a function of time in the Monte Carlo approach.Results shows that the machine drift is an important uncertainty source for the machine tested.  相似文献

To improve the accuracy of CNC machine tools, error sources and its effects on the overall position and orientation errors must be known. Most motional errors in the error model of five-axis machine tool can be measured with modern laser interferometer devices, but there are still some not measurable geometric errors. These not measurable errors include constant, inaccurate link errors of components such as rotary axes block, main spindle block and tool holder. After setting all measured errors in the error model, a reduced error model is defined, which describes the influence of each unknown and not measurable link error on the overall position errors of the five-axis machine tool. On the other hand, the newly developed probe-ball device can measure the overall position errors of five-axis machine tools directly. Based on the reduced model and the overall position errors, the link errors can be estimated very accurately with the least square estimation method. The error model is then fully known and can be used for advanced purposes such as error prediction and compensation.  相似文献

This paper presents a useful technique for assessing the volumetric errors in multiaxis machine tools using a kinematic double ball bar. This system has been developed based on a volumetric error model which describes the three-dimensional errors of machine tools. The developed system requires input of the measured radial data performed on the three orthogonal planes, and analyzes parametric errors such as positional, straightness, angular, squareness, and backlash errors. The developed system can also assess the dynamic performance of machine tools such as errors due to the servo gain mismatch. The developed system has been tested using an actual machine tool, showing high potential for error assessment of multiaxis machine tools.  相似文献

Volumetric positional accuracy constitutes a large portion of the total machine tool error during machining. In order to improve machine tool accuracy cost-effectively, machine tool geometric errors as well as thermally induced errors have to be characterized and predicted for error compensation. This paper presents the development of kinematic error models accounting for geometric and thermal errors in the Vertical Machining Center (VMC). The machine tool investigated is a Cincinnati Milacron Sabre 750 3 axes CNC Vertical Machining Center with open architecture controller. Using Rigid Body Kinematics and small angle approximation of the errors, each slide of the three axes vertical machining center is modeled using homogeneous coordinate transformation. By synthesizing the machine's parametric errors such as linear positioning errors, roll, pitch and yaw etc., an expression for the volumetric errors in the multi-axis machine tool is developed. The developed mathematical model is used to calculate and predict the resultant error vector at the tool–workpiece interface for error compensation.  相似文献

A novel capacitance–sensor based multi-degree-of-freedom (DOF) measurement system has been developed for measuring geometric errors of a miniaturized machine tool (mMT) overcoming the size limitations. In the present work five geometric error components of a three-axis mMT are measured simultaneously along each axis and the squareness errors are determined by the slopes of straightness error profiles. Least-squares fitting method is used to represent the analytical models of geometric errors. A kinematic chain consisting of various structural members of mMT is introduced to establish the positional relationships among its coordinate frames. Based on this kinematic chain a general volumetric error model has been developed to synthesize all geometric error components of a miniaturized machine tool. Then, a recursive compensation method is proposed to achieve error compensation efficiently. Test results show that the positioning accuracy of miniaturized machine tool has been improved with compensation.  相似文献

数控机床的误差建模是进行机床运动设计、精度分析和误差补偿的关键技术,也是保证机床加工精度的重要环节.本文利用多体系统理论来构建超精密数控机床的几何误差模型,该模型简便、明确,不受机床结构和运动复杂程度的限制,为计算机床误差、实现误差补偿和修正控制指令提供了理论依据.在机床实际应用中,可以利用由精密机床误差建模所推导出的几何位置误差来修正理想加工指令,控制机床的实际运动,从而实现几何误差补偿,提高机床加工精度.  相似文献

Many sources of errors exist in the manufacturing process of complex shapes. Some approximations occur at each step from the design geometry to the machined part.The aim of the paper is to present a method to evaluate the effect of high-speed and high dynamic load on volumetric errors at the tool center point.The interpolator output signals and the machine encoder signals are recorded and compared to evaluate the contouring errors resulting from each axis follow-up error. The machine encoder signals are also compared to the actual tool center point position as recorded with a non-contact measuring instrument called CapBall to evaluate the total geometric errors. The novelty of the work lies in the method that is proposed to decompose the geometric errors into two categories: the quasi-static geometric errors independent from the speed of the trajectory and the dynamic geometric errors, dependent on the programmed feed rate and resulting from the machine structure deflection during the acceleration of its axes.The evolution of the respective contributions for contouring errors, quasi-static geometric errors and dynamic geometric errors is experimentally evaluated and a relation between programmed feed rate and dynamic errors is highlighted.  相似文献

The total volumetric error within the workspace of a machine tool is induced by the propagation of both scalar and position dependent geometrical errors, as well as time-variant thermal errors. This paper presents a compact volumetric error model which can be used as a basis for a practical compensation scheme. The broad objective is to increase the achievable accuracy of an industrial five-axis CNC machine tool. In place of using Denavit-Hartenberg (D-H) transformations, the method used here directly considers the shape and joint transformations for inaccurate links and joints using small angle approximations and then finds the total volumetric error in the workspace as a function of all the possible errors.The development of the model shows that angular deviations are independent of translational errors. However, the tool point deviations are dependent on both translational and rotational errors. The model has been used for the design and testing of a compensation strategy. The simulation studies indicate that CNC compensation for errors in X, Y and Z axes is possible. However, the capability of the CNC compensation for pitch, roll and yaw errors is dependent on the positioning of the rotary axes on the machine tool. This is shown by an example using the compensation scheme developed.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study nonlinear geometric errors in multi-axis machine tools. A general mathematical model for guideway systems that can be applied to high-precision machine tools such as CNC lathes is introduced. Using this model, most nonlinear error sources in the guideway systems can be diagnosed by measuring the contouring error using a double-ball bar (DBB). Diagnostic software has been developed to identify system parameters based on the least-squares estimation method. Inputting two or three contouring errors pattern data into this software enables parameters to be identified quickly, based on the nonlinear model.  相似文献

Geometric and force errors compensation in a 3-axis CNC milling machine   总被引:5,自引:2,他引:5  
This paper proposes a new off line error compensation model by taking into accounting of geometric and cutting force induced errors in a 3-axis CNC milling machine. Geometric error of a 3-axis milling machine composes of 21 components, which can be measured by laser interferometer within the working volume. Geometric error estimation determined by back-propagation neural network is proposed and used separately in the geometric error compensation model. Likewise, cutting force induced error estimation by back-propagation neural network determined based on a flat end mill behavior observation is proposed and used separately in the cutting force induced error compensation model. Various experiments over a wide range of cutting conditions are carried out to investigate cutting force and machine error relation. Finally, the combination of geometric and cutting force induced errors is modeled by the combined back-propagation neural network. This unique model is used to compensate both geometric and cutting force induced errors simultaneously by a single model. Experimental tests have been carried out in order to validate the performance of geometric and cutting force induced errors compensation model.  相似文献

Aerostatic guideways are often used in machines requiring very high motion accuracy such as coordinate measuring machines. Currently, positioning error analysis for such machines focuses on the relationship between volumetric errors on one hand and axes’ motion errors and axes’ relative location errors on the other. The internal mechanisms causing motion errors are rarely considered. In order to gain a deeper understanding of aerostatic guideways, this paper investigates the relationship between the motion errors of the axis’ carriage and the guideways’ geometric errors both mathematically and experimentally. The analytical model uses bearings location and stiffness, guideway geometry and static equilibrium to produce a model in matrix form. Validation experiments are conducted on a machine axis moving on aerostatic guideways with and without preload.  相似文献

Geometric errors are clearly among the critical error sources in 5-axis machine tools and directly contribute to the machining inaccuracies. According to the definition of geometric errors of the rotary axis, different understandings have been exist in published studies. It is extremely dangerous as it makes the comprehension of the geometric errors ambiguous and may make the geometric error identification and compensation less effective. This phenomenon has not been noticed so far. In this paper, two different commonly used geometric error definition and modeling methods are firstly identified and analyzed, named as “Rotary axis component shift” and “Rotary axis line shift”. The features and relationships of these two error modeling methods are analyzed. After a detailed comparison, “Rotary axis component shift” is more suitable to definite the geometric errors of rotary axis. An experiment has been conducted on a 5-axis machine tool to show the correctness of our work. The results show that the identified geometric errors of rotary axis based on the two error models are greatly different and need to be concerned.  相似文献

Five-axis machine tools can be programmed to keep a constant nominal tool end point position while exercising all five axes simultaneously. This kinematic capability allows the use of a 3D proximity sensing head mounted at the spindle to track the position changes of a precision steel ball mounted on the machine table effectively measuring the 3D Cartesian volumetric errors of the machine. The new sensing head uses capacitive sensors to gather data on the fly during a synchronized five-axis motion which lasts less than 2 min. Because the measured volumetric errors are strongly affected by the link geometric errors, they can be used to estimate the link errors through an iterative procedure based on an identification Jacobian matrix. The paper presents the new sensor, the identification model and the experimental validation. The approach allows all eight link errors i.e. the three squarenesses of linear axes and the four orientations and center lines offset of the rotary axes to be estimated with the proposed single setup test. The estimation approach is performed on a horizontal five-axis machine tool. Then, using the estimated link errors, the volumetric errors are predicted for axes combinations different from those used for the identification process. The estimated machine model correctly predicts 52–84% of the volumetric errors for the tested trajectories.  相似文献

The geometric errors of rotary axes are the fundamental errors of a five-axis machine tool. They directly affect the machining accuracy, and require periodical measurement, identification and compensation. In this paper, a precise calibration and compensation method for the geometric errors of rotary axes on a five-axis machine tool is proposed. The automated measurement is realized by using an on-the-machine touch-trigger technology and an artifact. A calibration algorithm is proposed to calibrate geometric errors of rotary axes based on the relative displacement of the measured reference point. The geometric errors are individually separated and the coupling effect of the geometric errors of two rotary axes can be avoided. The geometry error of the artifact as well as its setup error has little influence on geometric error calibration results. Then a geometric error compensation algorithm is developed by modifying the numeric control (NC) source file. All the geometric errors of the rotary errors are compensated to improve the machining accuracy. The algorithm can be conveniently integrated into the post process. At last, an experiment on a five-axis machine tool with table A-axis and head B-axis structure validates the feasibility of the proposed method.  相似文献

This paper presents a new method for volumetric verification of machine tools. Beyond the consideration of a particular machine, a general verification methodology is presented based on the type of machine to verify the number and movement of axes and different techniques that can be used.A scheme and kinematic model with the inclusion of the measurement system depending on the kinematics of the machine are presented. The model describes the geometry and kinematics of a real milling machine based on a parametric synthetic data generator, which generates a test with known geometric errors and noise to enable a study of different optimisation techniques and models.Similarly, different errors identification techniques and volumetric verification models are presented and analysed.The paper shows the improvement that occurs in verification by considering optimisation phases, the appropriateness of using new techniques of feedback, and the influence of optimisation parameters. Chebyshev polynomials and its characteristics are presented, as well as a regression function for the new verification model. The new developed technique allows the characterisation of the different errors in the whole workspace of the machine and in less time than direct verification methods.  相似文献

Fixe-axis capabilities on machine tools are becoming increasingly common. However, the problem of modeling the propagation of errors of individual axes through the kinematic chain, and their effect on the position and orientation errors of the cutting tool in the machine's work space has not been addressed. To increase the accuracy capabilities of such machines it is crucial to be able to study this propagation and develop approaches to minimize their effects on the errors at the tool tip. This paper discusses an approach to model the effects of the positioning errors of a machine's axes on the accuracy (positioning and orientation) of the cutting tool in its work space. Computer programs are developed for implementing the models and generating error contours or maps showing the variation of the different components of a machine's volumetric errors in its work space. This is a useful tool that can be used in machine tool design for the budgeting of errors and for optimization of a machine's accuracy.  相似文献

In order to validate volumetric error compensation methods for five-axis machine tools, the machining of test parts has been proposed. For such tests, a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) or other external measurement, outside of the machine tool, is required to measure the accuracy of the machined part. In this paper, a series of machining tests are proposed to validate a compensation strategy and compare the machining accuracy before and after the compensation using only on-machine measurements. The basis of the tests is to machine slots, each completed using two different rotary axes indexations of the CNC machine tool. Using directional derivatives of the volumetric errors, it is possible to verify that a surface mismatch is produced between the two halves of the same slot in the presence of specific machine geometric errors. The mismatch at the both sides of the slot, which materializes the machine volumetric errors is measured using touch probing by the erroneous machine itself and with high accuracy since the measurement of both slot halves can be conducted using a single set of rotary axes indexation and in a volumetric region of a few millimetres. The effect of a compensation strategy is then validated by comparing the surface mismatch value for compensated and uncompensated slots.  相似文献

以某立式加工中心为研究载体,提出一种空间精度补偿技术。以旋量理论为基础,在充分考虑机床切削点空间位置的基础上,建立包含全部几何误差的立式加工中心空间精度模型,同时输出空间精度显示预测模型。针对传统空间精度补偿不充分的局限性,将空间精度补偿思路转换为NC代码最优化问题,基于遗传算法求解该最优化问题,通过实验验证优化结果的有效性。结果表明:基于旋量理论的机床空间精度建模包含21项几何误差,空间精度预测结果较为准确;基于NC代码最优化的空间精度补偿技术使得机床空间定位精度最大补偿率为90.94%,验证了所提方法的有效性。  相似文献

This paper presents a general and systematic approach for geometric error modeling of machine tools due to the geometric errors arising from manufacturing and assembly. The approach can be implemented in three steps: (1) development of a linear map between the pose error twist and source errors within machine tool kinematic chains using homogeneous transformation matrix method; (2) formulation of a linear map between the pose error twist and the error intensities of a machine tool; (3) combination of these two models for error separation. The merit of this approach lies in that it enables the source errors affecting the compensatable and uncompensatable pose accuracy of the machine tool to be explicitly separated, thereby providing designers and/or field engineers with an informative guideline for the accuracy improvement by suitable measures, i.e. component tolerancing in design, manufacturing and assembly processes, and error compensation. Two typical multi-axis machine tools are taken as examples to illustrate the generality and effectiveness of this approach.  相似文献

为提高某立式加工中心整机加工精度,借助旋量理论建立完备立式加工中心空间误差模型,在此基础上实现机床空间误差有效补偿.以旋量理论为基础推导并建立机床刀具运动链与工件运动链运动学正解,分析机床21项几何误差原理,在考虑21项几何误差的基础上建立该立式加工中心完备空间误差模型;利用九线法完成各项几何误差辨识;基于旋量运动学正解求解机床运动学逆解后得出运动轴实际运动路径,并通过体对角线实验对比补偿前后的效果.结果表明:所提补偿方法补偿效果显著,验证了机床空间误差模型的准确性,实现了提高机床加工精度的目的.  相似文献
