In recent years there has been increasing interest in interconnecting satellite and ATM networks, because both share common characteristics of the ability to provide bandwidth-on-demand and flexibility of integrating voice, video and data services. There are several new satellite constellation proposals that support multimedia service and transport ATM traffic. For a successful implementation of such systems it is essential to address the security requirements of users, satellite ATM network operators and multimedia service providers. In order to minimize delay and the cost of implementing security systems for satellite ATM networks, the network operator role (in security services) can be limited to the mutual authentication with satellite users during call set-up periods. In this paper a mutual authentication protocol between the user and the satellite network is presented using digital signature and public key systems. Also, another mutual authentication protocol between the user and the service provider is presented to provide end-to-end authentication and negotiation of security options such as selecting a secret key system and the key length. Finally, a detailed hardware implementation of ATM cell payload encryption is presented using the DES/TripleDES secret key system. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper presents a QoS (quality of service) aware routing and power control algorithm consuming low transmission power for multimedia service over mobile ad hoc network. Generally, multimedia services need stringent QoS over the network. However, it is not easy to guarantee the QoS over mobile ad hoc network since its network resources are very limited and time‐varying. Furthermore, only a limited amount of power is available at mobile nodes, which makes the problem more challenging. We propose an effective routing and power control algorithm for multimedia services that satisfies end‐to‐end delay constraint with low transmission power consumption. The proposed algorithm supports the required bandwidth by controlling each link channel quality over route in a tolerable range. In addition, a simple but effective route maintenance mechanism is implemented to avoid link failures that may significantly degrade streaming video quality. Finally, performance comparison with existing algorithms is presented in respect to traditional routing performance metrics, and an achievable video quality comparison is provided to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm for multimedia services over mobile ad hoc network. The convergence of wireless systems with multimedia services is the challengeof future generation wireless networks. The large variety of QoS requirementsof different media as well as the maintenance of synchronization of thedifferent streams to be presented at receiver, demand from the Data link layersome extra functionalities. In this paper, we present an enhanced approach forthe efficient management of multimedia applications in third-generationwireless networks. We advocate the use of multiple connections, one for eachtraffic component of the application, as the effective solution for thetransport of multimedia applications in future-generation wireless networks.The effectiveness of this scheme is guaranteed by providing a new link controltechnique that works on top of a PRMA-type access protocol which jointlymanages different streams of a multimedia application. For this purpose, wepropose a two-level priority mechanism (static and dynamic priorities)specified by higher protocol layers for link activation, channel access, andadmission control procedures specific to a multimedia application and foroptimizing the sharing of radio channel resources and management of thereservation queue at the base station. We expect this priority-based mechanismto perform well, especially during periods in which system traffic load ishigh, and to react well to the deterioration of multimedia service quality,in terms of both QoS parameters and the synchronization of its trafficcomponents.  相似文献

As mobile networking is moving towards the direction of providing high-speed multimedia services, the presence of connections that do not generate traffic at constant rate is becoming reality in wireless environment. For preliminary network design purposes analytical models are necessary that examine the performance or wireless networks with such connections. In this paper an analytical method is presented to calculate call-level system parameters of cellular networks with multimedia connections. The method is based on an approximate recursive calculation. The accuracy of the approximation is verified by computer simulations. The derivation of the distributions of user describing time variables and two simple admission control policies are also presented and investigated.  相似文献
