The aim of this study is to examine the effect of carbohydrate (CHO) ingestion during the first hour of treadmill running on endurance capacity. Eleven male subjects ran at 70% VO2max to exhaustion on three occasions one week apart. On two occasions two CHO-electrolyte solutions (a 5.5% (E) and a 6.9% (L) were ingested for the first hour of exercise; water was ingested until exhaustion. On the third occasion water (W) was ingested throughout the run. The order testing was randomly assigned. Exhaustion times for the W, E, and L trials were 109.6 +/- 9.6 min, 124.5 +/- 8.4 min, and 121.4 +/- 9.4 min, respectively. There was no difference between the two CHO trials, but time to exhaustion was longer only for the E trial (P < 0.05), compared with the W trial. Nevertheless the average performance times for the combined results of the two CHO trials were longer than the water trial. Carbohydrate ingestion resulted in higher blood glucose concentration (P < 0.01) at 20 min in the E trail only and lower (P < 0.05) serum growth hormone and plasma FFA and glycerol concentrations at 60 min but not at exhaustion in both E and L trials compared with the W trial. Blood lactate, plasma ammonia, electrolytes, catecholamines, and serum insulin and cortisol concentrations were not different in the three trials. In conclusion, CHO ingestion during the first hour of exercise improves endurance capacity go a greater extent compared with water alone.  相似文献

This study was designed to determine metabolic and physical performance responses to ingestion of pre-exercise meals with different macronutrient and fiber profiles. Twelve physically active subjects (6 males and 6 females) were used to investigate the metabolic and physical performance consequences of consuming pre-exercise meals consisting of oat, corn, or wheat cereals. A fasting trial served as the control, and all subjects received each treatment in a Latin-square design. Blood samples were drawn before and 85 min after meal ingestion, during 90 min of cycling exercise (60% VO2peak), after a 6.4 km performance ride, and during 60 min of recovery. Expired air samples were collected to determine nutrient utilization. Resting carbohydrate oxidation rates and plasma insulin concentrations after oat ingestion were less than after wheat, and corn and wheat ingestion, respectively (P < 0.05). During exercise, the change in plasma glucose from pre-exercise was greater after consuming wheat and corn compared with oat (P < 0.05), and it was inversely related to pre-exercise plasma insulin concentration (r = -0.55, P = 0.0001). Plasma free fatty acid concentrations were inversely related to plasma lactate concentrations (r = -0.58, P = 0.0001). Free fatty acid concentrations and fat oxidation were greater in fasting trials than all others, but performance ride times did not differ among treatments. Plasma branched-chain amino acid concentrations resembled their respective meal profiles throughout exercise, the performance ride, and recovery. These results indicate that pre-exercise meal composition can influence glucose homeostasis during early exercise and plasma branched-chain amino acid concentrations over a substantial range of metabolic demands.  相似文献

The effects of an oral glucose administration (1 g/kg) 30 min before exercise on endurance capacity and metabolic responses were studied in 21 type I diabetic patients [insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM)] and 23 normal controls (Con). Cycle ergometer exercise (55-60% of maximal O2 uptake) was performed until exhaustion. Glucose administration significantly increased endurance capacity in Con (112 +/- 7 vs. 125 +/- 6 min, P < 0.05) but only in IDDM patients whose blood glucose decreased during exercise (70.8 +/- 8.2 vs. 82.8 +/- 9.4 min, P < 0.05). Hyperglycemia was normalized at 15 min of exercise in Con (7.4 +/- 0.2 vs. 4.8 +/- 0.2 mM) but not in IDDM patients (12.4 +/- 0.7 vs. 15.6 +/- 0.9 mM). In Con, insulin and C-peptide levels were normalized during exercise. Glucose administration decreased growth hormone levels in both groups. In conclusion, oral glucose ingestion 30 min before exercise increases endurance capacity in Con and in some IDDM patients. In IDDM patients, in contrast with Con, exercise to exhaustion attenuates hyperglycemia but does not bring blood glucose levels to preglucose levels.  相似文献

This study examined the effect of increased blood glucose availability on glucose kinetics during exercise. Five trained men cycled for 40 min at 77 +/- 1% peak oxygen uptake on two occasions. During the second trial (Glu), glucose was infused at a rate equal to the average hepatic glucose production (HGP) measured during exercise in the control trial (Con). Glucose kinetics were measured by a primed continuous infusion of D-[3-3H]glucose. Plasma glucose increased during exercise in both trials and was significantly higher in Glu. HGP was similar at rest (Con, 11.4 +/- 1.2; Glu, 10.6 +/- 0.6 micromol . kg-1 . min-1). After 40 min of exercise, HGP reached a peak of 40.2 +/- 5.5 micromol . kg-1 . min-1 in Con; however, in Glu, there was complete inhibition of the increase in HGP during exercise that never rose above the preexercise level. The rate of glucose disappearance was greater (P < 0.05) during the last 15 min of exercise in Glu. These results indicate that an increase in glucose availability inhibits the rise in HGP during exercise, suggesting that metabolic feedback signals can override feed-forward activation of HGP during strenuous exercise.  相似文献

In this study the effects of acute caffeine ingestion on exercise performance, hormonal (epinephrine, norepinephrine, insulin), and metabolic (free fatty acids, glycerol, glucose, lactate, expired gases) parameters during short-term withdrawal from dietary caffeine were investigated. Recreational athletes who were habitual caffeine users (n = 6) (maximum oxygen uptake 54.5 +/- 3.3 ml x kg-1 x min-1 and daily caffeine intake 761.3 +/- 11.8 mg/day) were tested under conditions of no withdrawal and 2-day and 4-day withdrawal from dietary caffeine. There were seven trials in total with a minimum of 10 days between trials. On the day of the exercise trial, subjects ingested either dextrose placebo or 6 mg/kg caffeine in capsule form 1 h before cycle ergometry to exhaustion at 80-85% of maximum oxygen uptake. Test substances were assigned in a random, double-blind manner. A final placebo control trial completed the experiment. There was no significant difference in any measured parameters among days of withdrawal after ingestion of placebo. At exhaustion in the 2- and 4-day withdrawal trials, there were significant increases in plasma norepinephrine in response to caffeine ingestion. Caffeine-induced increases in serum free fatty acids occurred after 4 days and only at rest. Subjects responded to caffeine with increases in plasma epinephrine (P < 0.05) at exhaustion and prolonged exercise time in all caffeine trials compared with placebo, regardless of withdrawal from caffeine. It is concluded that increased endurance is unrelated to hormonal or metabolic changes and that it is not related to prior caffeine habituation in recreational athletes.  相似文献

The present paper reviews the literature on breakfast to consider reported association between breakfast and nutritional, physiological and biochemical variables. The contribution of breakfast to achieving nutrition targets for fat, carbohydrate and dietary fibre intakes is also examined as are the potential effects of fortified breakfast cereals on intakes of micronutrients and nutritional status. Breakfast consumption, particularly if the meal includes a breakfast cereal, is associated with lower intakes of fat and higher intakes of carbohydrate, dietary fibre and certain micronutrients. These findings may be relevant to population groups which could be at risk from low intakes of certain micronutrients, but further clarification of benefit is needed from studies of nutritional status. Associations between breakfast consumption and lower cholesterol levels have been reported, while lower body weights have been seen amongst breakfast eaters. It is concluded that breakfast consumption is a marker for an appropriate dietary pattern in terms of both macro- and micronutrients, particularly if breakfast cereals are included in the meal.  相似文献

To evaluate the extent to which decreased plasma free fatty acid (FFA) concentration contributes to the relatively low rates of fat oxidation during high-intensity exercise, we studied FFA metabolism in six endurance-trained cyclists during 20-30 min of exercise [85% of maximal O2 uptake (VO2max)]. They were studied on two occasions: once during a control trial when plasma FFA concentration is normally low and again when plasma FFA concentration was maintained between 1 and 2 mM by intravenous infusion of lipid (Intralipid) and heparin. During the 20-30 min of exercise, fat and carbohydrate oxidation were measured by indirect calorimetry, and the rates of appearance (Ra) of plasma FFA and glucose were determined by the constant infusion of [6,6-2H2]glucose and [2H2]palmitate. Lipid-heparin infusion did not influence the Ra or rate of disappearance of glucose. During exercise in the control trial, Ra FFA failed to increase above resting levels (11.0 +/- 1.2 and 12.4 +/- 1.7 mumol.kg-1.min-1 for rest and exercise, respectively) and plasma FFA concentration dropped from a resting value of 0.53 +/- 0.08 to 0.29 +/- 0.02 mM. The restoration of plasma FFA concentration resulted in a 27% increase in total fat oxidation (26.7 +/- 2.6 vs. 34.0 +/- 4.4 mumol.kg-1.min-1, P < 0.05) with a concomitant reduction in carbohydrate oxidation, apparently due to a 15% (P < 0.05) reduction in muscle glycogen utilization. However, the elevation of plasma FFA concentration during exercise at 85% VO2max only partially restored fat oxidation compared with the levels observed during exercise at 65% VO2max. These findings indicate that fat oxidation is normally impaired during exercise at 85% VO2max because of the failure of FFA mobilization to increase above resting levels, but this explains only part of the decline in fat oxidation when exercise intensity is increased from 65 to 85% VO2max.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess whether exercise performed in continuous and discontinuous formats reduced postprandial lipemia to a similar degree. METHODS: Fifteen normolipidemic and three borderline hyperlipidemic healthy males (ages 30.6 +/- 9.0 (mean +/- SD) yr, BMI 23.1 +/- 1.4 kg.m-2) participated in three trials, each conducted over 2 d. Subjects refrained from exercise for the 2 d preceding each trial. On day one, subjects rested (control trial), or ran at 60% of maximal oxygen uptake in either one 90-min session (continuous exercise trial), or three 30-min sessions (intermittent exercise trial). On day two, subjects ingested a high-fat test breakfast (1.2 g fat, 1.2 g carbohydrate, 70 kJ energy per kilogram body mass). Blood samples were obtained in the fasted state and at intervals for 6 h postprandially. RESULTS: Fasting plasma triacylglycerol (TAG) concentrations did not differ between trials. Areas under the TAG versus time curves were 18.1 +/- 6.7% (mean +/- SEM) and 17.7 +/- 7.6% (both P < 0.05) lower than control in the continuous exercise and intermittent exercise trials, respectively. Plasma glucose responses to the test meal did not differ between trials, but the serum insulin response was lower in the intermittent exercise trial compared with that in the control. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that both intermittent and continuous exercise can reduce postprandial lipemia.  相似文献

We studied the effects of the glycemic index (GI) of preexercise meals on metabolism and performance when carbohydrate (CHO) was ingested throughout exercise. Six well-trained cyclists performed three counterbalanced trials of 2-h cycling at approximately 70% of maximal oxygen uptake, followed by a performance ride of 300 kJ. Meals consumed 2 h before exercise consisted of 2 g CHO/kg body mass of either high-GI potato (HGI trial) or low-GI pasta (LGI trial), or of a low-energy jelly (Con trial). Immediately before and throughout exercise, subjects ingested a 10 g/100 ml [U-14C]glucose solution for a total of 24 ml/kg body mass. Despite differences in preexercise glucose, insulin, and free fatty acids concentrations among trials, both total CHO oxidation for HGI, LGI, and Con trials, respectively, during steady-state exercise [403 +/- 16, 376 +/- 29, and 373 +/- 24 (SE) g/2 h] and oxidation of the ingested CHO (65 +/- 6, 57 +/- 6, and 63 +/- 5 g/2 h) were similar. There was no difference in time to complete the subsequent performance ride (946 +/- 23, 954 +/- 35, and 970 +/- 26 s for HGI, LGI, and Con trials, respectively). When CHO is ingested during exercise in amounts presently recommended by sports nutrition guidelines, preexercise CHO intake has little effect on metabolism or on subsequent performance during prolonged cycling (approximately 2.5 h).  相似文献

This study examined whether combining a pre-exercise carbohydrate meal with the ingestion of a carbohydrate-electrolyte solution during exercise is better in improving endurance running capacity than a carbohydrate-electrolyte solution alone. Ten men completed three treadmill runs at 70% VO2max to exhaustion. They consumed 1.) a carbohydrate meal three hours before exercise and a carbohydrate-electrolyte solution during exercise (M + C), or 2.) a liquid placebo three hours before exercise and the carbohydrate-electrolyte solution during exercise (P + C), or 3.) a placebo three hours before exercise and placebo during exercise (P + P). When the meal was consumed (M + C) serum insulin concentrations were higher at the start of exercise, and carbohydrate oxidation rates were higher during the first 60 min of exercise compared with the values found in the P + C and P + P trials (p < 0.01). Exercise time was longer in the M + C (147.4+/-9.6 min) compared with the P + C (125.3+/-7 min) (p < 0.01). Also, exercise time was longer in M + C and P + C compared with the P + P (115.1+/-7.6 min) (p < 0.01 and p < 0.05 respectively). These results indicate that the combination of a pre-exercise carbohydrate meal and a carbohydrate-electrolyte solution further improves endurance running capacity than the carbohydrate-electrolyte solution alone.  相似文献

In this study we examined the effect of a dopamine (DA) precursor (L-DOPA) or a serotonin (5-HT) antagonist (Ritanserin) on time to exhaustion. The study had a double-blind, randomised, placebo controlled and cross-over design. Seven moderately trained men performed three tests to exhaustion at 65% Wattmax. Each test was separated by two weeks to allow washout of the drugs (dose: 4 mg/kg Sinemet, and 0.3 mg/kg Ritanserin). Blood lactate, hematocrit, glucose, ammonia, free fatty acids (FFA), growth hormone (GH) and catecholamines were determined before and after exercise. Time to exhaustion did not differ between the three trials. Most of the parameters measured in this study responded as predicted during cycling to exhaustion in man. DA agonism significantly increased heart rate, lactate, and plasma DA values at rest, while other parameters such as FFA, lactate, plasma noradrenaline (NA) and adrenaline (A), and plasma GH showed the highest absolute levels at exhaustion. Ritanserin did not influence basal glucose and heart rate at rest, but this group showed a much lower increase in plasma catecholamine levels. We conclude that under the present conditions, neither a metabolic precursor of DA nor a specific centrally acting 5-HT2A/2C antagonist, when given in two single doses 24 h and immediately before the experiments, influences the time to exhaustion on a bicycle trial at 65% Wattmax.  相似文献

Controversy still exists concerning the potential ergogenic benefit of caffeine (CAF) for exercise performance. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of CAF ingestion on endurance performance during exercise on a bicycle ergometer at two different intensities, i.e., approximately 10% below and 10% above the anaerobic threshold (AT). Eight untrained males, non-regular consumers of CAF, participated in this study. AT, defined as the intensity (watts) corresponding to a lactate concentration of 4 mM, was determined during an incremental exercise test from rest to exhaustion on an electrically braked cycle ergometer. On the basis of these measurements, the subjects were asked to cycle until exhaustion at two different intensities, i.e., approximately 10% below and 10% above AT. Each intensity was performed twice in a double-blind randomized order by ingesting either CAF (5 mg/kg) or a placebo (PLA) 60 min prior to the test. Venous blood was analyzed for free fatty acid, glucose, and lactate, before, during, and immediately after exercise. Rating of perceived exertion and time to exhaustion were also measured during each trial. There were no differences in free fatty acids or lactate levels between CAF and PLA during and immediately after exercise for either intensity. Immediately after exercise glucose increased in the CAF trial at both intensities. Rating of perceived exertion was significantly lower (CAF = 14.1 +/- 2.5 vs PLA = 16.6 +/- 2.4) and time to exhaustion was significantly higher (CAF = 46.54 +/- 8.05) min vs PLA = 32.42 +/- 14.81 min) during exercise below AT with CAF. However, there was no effect of CAF treatment on rating of perceived exertion (CAF = 18.0 +/- 2.7 vs PLA = 17.6 +/- 2.3) and time to exhaustion (CAF = 18.45 +/- 7.28 min vs PLA = 19.17 +/- 4.37 min) during exercise above AT. We conclude that in untrained subjects caffeine can improve endurance performance during prolonged exercise performed below AT and that the decrease of perceived exertion can be involved in this process.  相似文献

Increasing plasma free fatty acids decreased the degree of glycogen depletion, and increased the citrate concentration, in slow-red (soleus) and fast-red (deep portion of vastus lateralis) muscle during exercise (approx. 50% depletion of glycogen, as against 75% in control animals). There was no effect in fast-white muscle (superficial portion of vastus lateralis). Glycogen concentration in the liver decreased by 83% in controls, but only by 23% in animals with increased free fatty acids during exercise. The decreased glycogen depletion may be partly explained by the findings that (a) plasma-insulin concentration was two- to three-fold higher in animals with increased plasma free fatty acids and (b) the exercise-induced increase in plasma glucagon was lessened by increased free fatty acids. Blood glucose was higher in the animals with increased free fatty acids after the exercise. The rats with increased plasma free fatty acids utilized approx. 50% as much carbohydrate as did the controls during the exercise.  相似文献

To test the hypothesis that an elevation in circulating epinephrine increases intramuscular glycogen utilization, six endurance-trained men performed two 40-min cycling trials at 71 +/- 2% of peak oxygen uptake in 20-22 degrees C conditions. On the first occasion, subjects were infused with saline throughout exercise (Con). One week later, after determination of plasma epinephrine levels in Con, subjects performed the second trial (Epi) with an epinephrine infusion, which resulted in a twofold higher (P < 0.01) plasma epinephrine concentration in Epi compared with Con. Although oxygen uptake was not different when the two trials were compared, respiratory exchange ratio was higher throughout exercise in Epi compared with Con (0.93 +/- 0.01 vs. 0.89 +/- 0.01; P < 0.05). Muscle glycogen concentration was not different when the trials were compared preexercise, but the postexercise value was lower (P < 0.01) in Epi compared with Con. Thus net muscle glycogen utilization was greater during exercise with epinephrine infusion (224 +/- 37 vs. 303 +/- 30 mmol/kg for Con and Epi, respectively; P < 0.01). In addition, both muscle and plasma lactate and plasma glucose concentrations were higher (P < 0.05) in Epi compared with Con. These data indicate that intramuscular glycogen utilization, glycolysis, and carbohydrate oxidation are augmented by elevated epinephrine during submaximal exercise in trained men.  相似文献

In the first part of this study, the effect of four isocaloric mixed breakfast meals on the blood glucose and urinary glucose losses was tested in nine adult diabetics and in three healthy subjects, ages 60 to 75. Three of the test meals consisted of a base diet supplemented with applesauce sweetened with sucrose, fructose, or sorbitol. In the fourth test meal, the starch was increased together with saccharine. In the second part of the study, analyses for free glucose and sucrose in several timed food preparations, ordinary as well as food preparations specially designed for diabetics, were performed. The amount of sucrose equivalents (S(eg)) in one ordinary serving of the various products was estimated. No significant differences among sucrose, fructose, and sorbitol-containing meals with respect to the effect on the blood glucose level or on glucosuria were found. The saccharine-containing meal gave a significantly greater blood glucose increase at 60 min only. The amount of sucrose in ordinary marinated foods, such as herring, cucumber, and common beet was negligible. Water-packed fruits supplied one half of the amount of S(eq) or less, compared with fruits packed in sorbitol-sweetened syrup. The amount of S(eq) in the latter products as well as in fruits packed in unsweetened juice equalled that of the fleshy substance of ordinary sucrose-sweetened products. It was concluded that fructose or sorbitol has no advantages over sucrose, as regards the effect on blood glucose in well-regulated adult diabetics, and that it seems unnecessary to have specially sweetened foods designed for diabetics.  相似文献

Effects of a serotonin re-uptake inhibitor and oral amino acid supplementations on physical and mental performance as well as neuroendocrine variables were investigated. 10 male subjects cycled in four trials until exhaustion. Participants ingested a placebo in trial (T) I, 20 mg paroxetine in T II, 21 g branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) in T III and 20g tyrosine (TYR) in T IV. Heart rate, capillary lactate, plasma insulin, free fatty acids, glucose, serotonin and beta-endorphin did not differ in trials. Plasma ammonia increments during exercise were higher in T III. Plasma BCAA in T III and plasma TYR in T IV were increased after 30 min of exercise according to the supplemented substances. In contrast to all other trials, the ratio of plasma free TRP/BCAA did not increase in T III. Plasma TYR/BCAA was augmented in T IV and decreased in T III after 30 min of exercise, whereas it did not change in T I and II. Plasma prolactin (PRL), growth hormone, cortisol, adrenocorticotropic hormone, norepinephrine and epinephrine increased during all trials. Plasma PRL increments were higher in T IV. Exhaustion was reached earlier in T II. No significant differences were found between other trials. Drive during psychometric testing subsequent to exercise was improved in T III and IV. The results indicate that fatigue during endurance exercise was increased by pharmacological augmentation of the brain serotonergic activity. However, a reduction of 5-HT synthesis via BCAA supplementation did not affect physical fatigue. TYR administration did not alter physical performance either although plasma PRL increments suggest that changes in the monoaminergic system were induced. Precaution is necessary before assuming an ergogenic value of amino acids.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that adenosine is involved in regulating substrate metabolism during exercise. Seven trained cyclists were studied during 30 minutes of exercise at approximately 75% maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). Lipid metabolism was evaluated by infusing [2H5]glycerol and [1-13C]palmitate, and glucose kinetics were evaluated by infusing [6,6-2H]glucose. Fat and carbohydrate oxidation were also measured by indirect calorimetry. The same subjects performed two identical exercise tests, but in one trial theophylline, a potent adenosine receptor antagonist, was infused for 1 hour before and throughout exercise. Theophylline did not increase whole-body lipolysis (glycerol rate of appearance [Ra]) or free fatty acid (FFA) release during exercise, but fat oxidation was lower than control values (9.5 +/- 3.0 v 18.0 +/- 4.2 micromol x min(-1) x kg(-1), P < .01). Glucose Ra was not affected by theophylline infusion, but glucose uptake was lower (31.6 +/- 4.1 v 40.4 +/- 5.0 micromol x min(-1) x kg(-1), P < .05) and glucose concentration was higher (6.4 +/- 0.6 v 5.8 +/- 0.4 mmol/L, P < .05) than in the control trial. Total carbohydrate oxidation (302.3 +/- 26.2 v 265.5 +/- 11.7 micromol x min(-1) x kg(-1), P < .06), estimated muscle glycogenolysis (270.7 +/- 23.1 v 225.1 +/- 9.7 micromol x min(-1) x kg(-1), P < .05), and plasma lactate concentration (7.9 +/- 1.6 v 5.9 +/- 1.1 mmol/L, P < .001) were also higher during the theophylline trial. These data suggest that adenosine may play a role in stimulating glucose uptake and restraining glycogenolysis but not in limiting lipolysis during exercise.  相似文献

Complete spinal cord lesion leads to profound metabolic abnormalities and striking changes in muscle morphology. Here we assess the effects of electrically stimulated leg cycling (ESLC) on whole body insulin sensitivity, skeletal muscle glucose metabolism, and muscle fiber morphology in five tetraplegic subjects with complete C5-C7 lesions. Physical training (seven ESLC sessions/wk for 8 wk) increased whole body insulin-stimulated glucose uptake by 33+/-13%, concomitant with a 2.1-fold increase in insulin-stimulated (100 microU/ml) 3-O-methylglucose transport in isolated vastus lateralis muscle. Physical training led to a marked increase in protein expression of GLUT4 (378+/-85%), glycogen synthase (526+/-146%), and hexokinase II (204+/-47%) in vastus lateralis muscle, whereas phosphofructokinase expression (282+/-97%) was not significantly changed. Hexokinase II activity was significantly increased, whereas activity of phosphofructokinase, glycogen synthase, and citrate synthase was not changed after training. Muscle fiber type distribution and fiber area were markedly altered compared to able-bodied subjects before ESLC training, with no change noted in either parameter after ECSL training. In conclusion, muscle contraction improves insulin action on whole body and cellular glucose uptake in cervical cord-injured persons through a major increase in protein expression of key genes involved in the regulation of glucose metabolism. Furthermore, improvements in insulin action on glucose metabolism are independent of changes in muscle fiber type distribution.  相似文献

We determined the effect of the timing of glucose supplementation on fractional muscle protein synthetic rate (FSR), urinary urea excretion, and whole body and myofibrillar protein degradation after resistance exercise. Eight healthy men performed unilateral knee extensor exercise (8 sets/approximately 10 repetitions/approximately 85% of 1 single maximal repetition). They received a carbohydrate (CHO) supplement (1 g/kg) or placebo (Pl) immediately (t = 0 h) and 1 h (t = +1 h) postexercise. FSR was determined for exercised (Ex) and control (Con) limbs by incremental L-[1-13C]leucine enrichment into the vastus lateralis over approximately 10 h postexercise. Insulin was greater (P < 0.01) at 0.5, 0.75, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, and 2 h, and glucose was greater (P < 0.05) at 0.5 and 0.75 h for CHO compared with Pl condition. FSR was 36.1% greater in the CHO/Ex leg than in the CHO/Con leg (P = not significant) and 6.3% greater in the Pl/Ex leg than in the Pl/Con leg (P = not significant). 3-Methylhistidine excretion was lower in the CHO (110.43 +/- 3.62 mumol/g creatinine) than P1 condition (120.14 +/- 5.82, P < 0.05) as was urinary urea nitrogen (8.60 +/- 0.66 vs. 12.28 +/- 1.84 g/g creatinine, P < 0.05). This suggests that CHO supplementation (1 g/kg) immediately and 1 h after resistance exercise can decrease myofibrillar protein breakdown and urinary urea excretion, resulting in a more positive body protein balance.  相似文献

At rest and during exercise, chronic hyperglycemia, high free fatty acid (FFA) oxidation, and insulin deficiency in diabetes are well known to impair glucose clearance (metabolic clearance rate [MCR]). The effect of acute restoration of glycemia per se on MCR has been less well characterized. We therefore studied normal and alloxan-diabetic dogs both at rest and during exercise, as diabetic hyperglycemic or after acutely induced euglycemia (<160 min) generated by infusion of either insulin or phlorizin. Glucose uptake was similar under hyperglycemic and normoglycemic conditions both at rest and during exercise, indicating a precise balance between the mass effect of glucose and decreased MCR. Rest and exercise MCR was fourfold lower under conditions of hyperglycemia, but insulin-independent restoration of euglycemia improved basal MCR threefold and normalized MCR during exercise. High FFA turnover did not affect glucose uptake but was correlated with plasma lactate concentrations (r = 0.72, P < 0.001), suggesting that muscle fuel requirements are controlled by glucose oxidation and not uptake. We conclude that in alloxan-diabetic dogs, the impaired MCR may be an adaptive phenomenon because correction of hyperglycemia corrects MCR despite partial insulin deficiency and high FFA turnover. We speculate that constant glucose uptake despite hyperglycemia in diabetes may protect the muscle from excessive exposure to glucose.  相似文献
