A wide operating bandwidth for a single-layer coaxially fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna can be obtained by cutting a U-shaped slot on the patch. This antenna structure has recently been found experimentally to provide impedance bandwidths of 10%-40%, even with nonair substrates. However, design rules for this antenna have not yet been presented. This paper develops principle design procedures through examination of the structure's multiple resonant frequencies as well as the radiation and impedance properties of different antenna geometries. The approximate design rules are derived by analysis of former experiments, method of moments (MoM) simulations, and measurement results. Simulations and measurements of several antennas designed using these new rules are presented and directions for further study are discussed. 相似文献

A method for the analysis of the coaxial collinear antenna made of transposed coaxial sections of arbitrary length is presented. The excitation terms of the integral equation for the current distribution of this antenna are expressed by using a known impressed voltage, and these are computed recursively by computer. Calculated values of current distributions and input impedances are found to agree with measured results, and the validity of the presented method is confirmed. 针对双频段低剖面椭圆波束天线的需求,该文提出了一种新型混合结构椭圆波束天线的设计技术。该混合结构由主、副反射面内环部分构成的椭圆波束环焦天线和外环部分构成的椭圆波束卡塞格伦天线组成。该文描述了椭圆波束天线的设计思路、设计步骤和赋形计算公式,给出一个600 mm×1200 mm椭圆波束天线的设计实例,并进行了容差分析,该天线的工作频率覆盖了Ku/Ka双频段,效率达到56%以上,电压驻波比(VSWR)低于1.27,俯仰面第1旁瓣低于–12.2 dB,方位面第1旁瓣低于–14.6 dB。商业软件Grasp和CST全波仿真的结果吻合很好,证明了该新颖结构和设计方法的有效性。 相似文献

The narrow bandwidth of a microstrip antenna is one of the important features that restrict its wide usage. A simple and practical method for the design of broad-band microstrip antennas is presented in this paper. Utilizing this design technique, several two-layer microstrip antennas have been proposed. To confirm the applicability of the method for the designs of antennas at L-band, experiments have been carried out. The measured results show that the proposed antennas have a bandwidth of up to 25.7%. A study on the analysis and design of active integrated antennas based on active quasi-circulators is reported in this paper. The antenna consists of a novel hybrid active circulator and a short-circuited quarter-wavelength microstrip antenna, which combine to form an active antenna with transmit and receive action at the same frequency. A full-wave model of the configuration using the extended finite-difference time-domain method is devised to analyze its operation, to study parasitic electromagnetic coupling effects, and to derive design guidelines. A new quasi-planar leaky-wave antenna is presented. It consists of microstrip line on one side of the substrate and uniplanar circuit on the other side placed in a partially opened waveguide. The leakage is produced by the excitation of the first higher order (odd) microstrip mode coupled electromagnetically through a slotline on the opposite side of the substrate. Theoretic results based on rigorous Green's impedance integral equation method show that the new microstrip-slotline-coupled leaky-wave antenna has a broadband tuning range via structure parameters and is insensitive to the microstrip line width variation. Measured relative power absorbed (RPA) results indicate that the useful frequency bandwidth agrees with that predicted by rigorous field theory. The measured antenna radiation patterns also agree very well with the approximate theoretic computations. The theory and experiments show that the proposed leaky-wave antenna can interface to feeding structure easily and directly. A cavity-backed slot antenna is thought to be one of the most suitable elements for the wireless transmission of microwave energy. A design technique is developed for the cavity-backed slot antenna using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The technique is effective in characterizing antenna performance such as the input impedance and the far-field pattern since it takes into account the geometry of the feeder as well as the cavity. We present a method that overcomes difficulties when the FDTD method is used to design the antenna. Moreover, we discuss how to determine the calculation parameters used in the FDTD analysis. Several numerical results are presented, along with measured data, which demonstrate the validity, efficiency, and capability of the techniques. The paper proposes a new prediction method for the frequency characteristics of the cavity-backed slot antenna, which applies computational windows to time-sequence data. It is emphasized that windowing the slow decaying signal enables the extraction of accurate antenna characteristics. The analysis and design of a circularly polarized frequency-scanning grating-reflector antenna is presented. The antenna is intended for a multibeam satellite communication system, covering 3.1° north-south and 7.2° east-west with 25 spot beams. Frequency scanning is used for the north-south coverage, while the east-west coverage is obtained by the use of a cluster feed. The grating reflector consists of a planar frequency-scanned reflection grating with a quasi-periodic lattice geometry. The frequency-scanned grating reflects the incident field into a diffracted field composed of the first-order diffracted grating lobe. A focus-feed position for the diffracted field is obtained by a proper design of the quasi-periodic lattice geometry. Design principles for the planar grating-reflector antenna are presented together with an analysis method for predicting copolar and cross-polar radiation patterns. The characteristics of a dual-frequency compact antenna, which uses a rectangular microstrip patch with a shorting pin, are studied. Compared with the conventional rectangular patch antenna, this antenna can achieve both a significant reduction of antenna size and a dual-frequency operation with a single feed. A detailed parameter study is performed. The theoretical analysis is based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The FDTD codes are developed and validated by measurement results. One antenna has been designed and fabricated, and the comparisons between the measured results and the calculated results are provided. The effects of several antenna parameters on two resonant frequencies, frequency ratio, and radiation pattern characteristics of the antenna have been analyzed and compared. The results of the return loss are also presented. It is shown that various frequency ratios (2.82-4.23) can be obtained by varying the design parameters of this antenna. The design of coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed bow-tie antenna for the 2.4-GHz ISM band is described. A coplanar waveguide-to-coplanar strips (CPW-to-CPS) balun is used to obtain the balanced feed line for the printed bow-tie. An analysis method based on the mixed potential integral equation method is used to characterize the input characteristics of the bow-tie antenna. The numerical results obtained are in good agreement with the experimental data. Through experiments with bow-tie antennas of various extended angles, the bow-tie antenna with a 90° extended angle exhibits the widest bandwidth in the desired frequency band which has a bandwidth of 17% for a VSWR <1.5:1 相似文献

A new design for a coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed slot antenna is presented. The impedance matching and the radiation characteristics of this structure were studied using the method of moment technique. This antenna has an impedance bandwidth (for a VSWR<2) of 49% and a radiation bandwidth of 42% about its 4.8 GHz centre frequency, compared to the 12-20% impedance bandwidth of the standard CPW fed slot antenna. The cross-polarisation in both the principle planes is at least 20 dB below co-polarisation across the entire bandwidth. Simulated and measured results of the antenna are presented. A radial line slot antenna (RLSA) is a high-gain and high-efficiency planar antenna. A linearly polarized RLSA (LP-RLSA) is attractive for applications of various subscriber radio systems. However, the slot arrangement for linear polarization gives rise to serious reflection from slots, which disturbs the normal antenna operation. A new LP-RLSA slot design is presented where reflection canceling slots are added to the conventional ones; four slots form one slot set as a unit radiator of linear polarization. The experiments confirm the design: the antenna return-loss is improved from -2 to -10 dB. Antenna efficiencies of 48 and 54% are measured for 400 and 600-mmφ antennas, respectively. A general formulation is presented which treats with accuracy the perfectly conducting antenna, the uniformly resistive antenna, the tapered resistive antenna, and the multiple impedance loaded antenna. The current distribution is obtained in analytic form that is easily used to obtain the effective length and radiated field. The presented theory has application in traveling-wave antenna design. Traveling-wave antennas are of interest for broadband and directional communication. Extensive numerical results are obtained, and comparisons are made with experimental data.
