We examined the effect of diet, age (4.5, 13 and 23 months), and sex on plasma levels of retinol, tocopherol, ascorbate, cholesterol, glucose and glycohemoglobin in male and female Emory mice which were fed control (C) and 50% calorie restricted (R) diets. Results showed that C fed animals tended to have higher levels of plasma ascorbate (50-71%), cholesterol (23-71%), glucose (38-81%) and glycohemoglobin (50%). However, these diet differences varied with the age and sex of the animals. Plasma retinol levels were lower only in R males vs. C males (50%). Novel sex-related differences in levels of plasma retinol (2-fold higher in C male mice than in C or R female mice) are described. Aging was associated with trends towards lower levels of plasma ascorbate (14-25%), glucose (34-36%) and glycohemoglobin (47-57%) from 4.5 to 23 months of age. However, these age differences depended upon the diet and sex of the animals. These data suggest that lower plasma levels of glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin and cholesterol may be causally related to the life extension noted in R animals since elevated levels of these moieties have been related to aging. Since oxidative stress is thought to be causally related to aging it appears unlikely that retinol, tocopherol and ascorbate are causally related to R-induced life-extension.  相似文献

A decline in plasma concentration of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) has been hypothesized to contribute to a decrease in tissue protein synthesis and function in aging animals and man. In this study, the effects of aging and long-term caloric restriction on growth hormone receptor signal transduction were assessed in hepatic tissue to determine whether alterations in tissue responsiveness to growth hormone contribute to the decline in IGF-1 gene expression. Liver slices from female C57/BL mice (10, 17, and 31 months) were prepared in media and stimulated with growth hormone (2 nM). An increase in growth hormone receptor binding was observed in 31-month ad libitum-fed animals (p < .01) compared to 10- or 17-month-old animals), and this effect was partially attenuated by moderate caloric restriction. However, growth hormone (2 nM)-induced IGF-1 gene expression was significantly lower in old ad libitum-fed animals (p < .05 compared to 10-month-old ad libitum and 31-month-old caloric-restricted animals). Further analysis revealed that growth hormone receptor and JAK2 kinase phosphorylation as well as mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase activity were significantly lower in old animals compared to the adult or middle-age groups (p < .05). Old caloric-restricted animals demonstrated a significant increase in growth hormone receptor and JAK2 kinase phosphorylation and MAP kinase activity in response to growth hormone. The results demonstrate that growth hormone increases growth hormone receptor and JAK2 kinase phosphorylation as well as MAP kinase activity in liver. These responses decrease with age and are attenuated by moderate, long-term caloric restriction.  相似文献

We administered clenbuterol as a dietary admixture (4 mg/kg diet) to three groups of male Wistar rats (n = 8) housed individually in metabolism cages and fed for 15 d at 110, 160, and 235% (ad libitum) of the estimated requirement for energy maintenance. Untreated groups at each level of energy intake and a baseline group were also included. In the diet-restricted rats, clenbuterol induced greater and more persistent increases in nitrogen balance, biological value, and net protein utilization than it did in the ad libitum-fed rats. Energy balance was increased by clenbuterol treatment in the diet-restricted rats, with no significant changes occurring in the ad libitum fed rats. Compared with untreated rats, clenbuterol reduced blood glucose in all diet groups and serum insulin in the ad libitum and the moderately restricted (160%) rats. Serum IGF-I was increased in the highly restricted (110%) rats. Corticosterone levels were increased by clenbuterol treatment in all diet groups. These results are consistent with previous results showing that clenbuterol can help improve growth, but they also show that clenbuterol can offset the effects of food restriction on protein and energy metabolism.  相似文献

To clarify the changes of mineral levels in different tissues of riboflavin-deficient rats, Wistar rats were separated into three groups. One group was fed a diet ad libitum that was deficient in riboflavin. The other two were fed either the complete diet that was weight-matched to the riboflavin-deficient group or fed a complete diet ad libitum. In riboflavin-deficient rats, the hemoglobin concentration and riboflavin contents of blood, liver, and kidney were significantly decreased, compared with weight-matched and ad libitum-fed controls. The mineral concentrations of tissues are summarized as follows: The iron (Fe) concentration in the heart, liver, and spleen was decreased in the riboflavin-deficient group compared with the other groups. Calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) concentrations in tibia were decreased in the riboflavin-deficient group compared with the other two groups. Copper (Cu) concentration was increased in the heart and liver, when the riboflavin-deficient group was compared with the other groups. Zinc (Zn) concentration was increased in tibia when the riboflavin-deficient group was compared with the other groups.  相似文献

This study examined the effects of aging and dietary restriction on metabotropic type 1 (met1; high quisqualate affinity) and type 2 (met2; low quisqualate affinity) binding sites for glutamate and the relationship between these binding sites and spatial memory. Quantitative autoradiography was performed on 3-, 10-, and 26-month-old mice. Ten- and 26-month-old mice were fed ad libitum or fed restricted diets. Met1 binding sites were not notably affected by age or diet. Binding to met2 sites was maintained during aging in the ad libitum-fed mice, but there were decreases in binding in the diet-restricted mice as compared to 3-month-old mice. Binding to met1 and met2 sites did not correlate significantly with performance in the Morris water maze. These results suggest that dietary restriction induces a decrease in one or more of the functions associated with met2 binding sites during the aging process.  相似文献

The effects of long-term monotherapy with cilazapril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, on blood pressure, glucose tolerance, and serum lipid profiles were prospectively investigated in 66 patients with hypertension: 23 with normal glucose tolerance and 43 with glucose intolerance (including 9 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus). The levels of plasma glucose, serum insulin, serum lipids, glycated hemoglobin A(lc) (Hb A(lc)), and fructosamine were determined before and during long-term (mean +/- SD, 26.2 +/- 1.2 weeks) therapy with cilazapril. A 75-g oral glucose tolerance test was performed before and during treatment. Significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressures in both patient groups were maintained during the study. Neither fasting nor post-glucose load venous plasma glucose levels were altered in either group of patients, and no patient with normal glucose tolerance developed diabetes mellitus during the study. There was no significant change in the insulinogenic index (delta serum insulin/delta venous plasma glucose at 30 minutes post-glucose load) in either group, and glucose intolerance was slightly improved with significant reductions (P < 0.01) in Hb A(lc) and fructosamine in the patient group with impaired glucose tolerance. Serum total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were significantly (P < 0.01) decreased and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels increased in patients with hypercholesterolemia (TC levels > or = 5.69 mmol/L). These results suggest that long-term cilazapril therapy may improve glucose and lipid metabolism in hypertensive patients with impaired glucose tolerance. Cilazapril also appears to be useful as an antihypertensive agent for hypertensive patients with either impaired glucose tolerance or hypercholesterolemia.  相似文献

We previously demonstrated that chronic dietary treatment with acarbose, an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, improves glucose homeostasis in the streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rat. In this study we evaluated the effects of 4 weeks of acarbose treatment on glucose homeostasis in STZ-diabetic rats for both meal-fed (three times daily) and ad libitum feeding conditions. Sprague Dawley male rats (n = 58) were started on a daily meal-feeding paradigm consisting of three 2-h feeding periods: 0700 to 0900 hours, 1300 to 1500 hours, and 1900 to 2100 hours. Following 2 weeks of adaptation, half of the animals were switched to ad libitum feeding. The feeding paradigm itself (meal fed versus ad lib.) affected neither body weight nor daily food intake. Twenty animals from each feeding group then received STZ (60 mg/kg i.v.), whereas control animals received vehicle injections only. Two days later, the diet of 10 STZ-treated animals from each paradigm was supplemented with acarbose (40 mg of BAY G 5421/100-g diet), and the groups were treated for 4 weeks. Untreated diabetic rats had lower body weight than vehicle-injected control rats at all time points after STZ treatment. Acarbose treatment delayed this effect on body weight. STZ treatment induced hyperphagia regardless of feeding paradigm, which was significantly attenuated by acarbose only for the first week of treatment. Untreated diabetic rats had fasting blood glucose values 4 times those of vehicle-injected controls in both the meal-fed and ad libitum-fed conditions. Acarbose significantly lowered fasting blood glucose in the treated STZ groups. Blood glucose was also assessed 0, 90, and 180 min following the start of a meal. The postprandial rise in blood glucose was significantly reduced in acarbose-treated meal-fed diabetic rats, to values not significantly different from those of vehicle-injected control rats. During the fourth week of treatment glycated hemoglobin levels were significantly higher in untreated diabetic groups compared to vehicle-injected control groups. Acarbose treatment significantly reduced this rise, regardless of the feeding paradigm. Collectively, the results demonstrate that acarbose reduces diabetes-induced increases of blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin and that the glycemic effects of acarbose are most apparent during the absorptive period. Feeding paradigm (ad lib. versus meal fed) has little or no influence on acarbose's metabolic effects, indicating that large meals are not required to realize the beneficial effects of the drug. The meal-fed STZ-diabetic rat may be a good model with which to test meal-based diabetes treatments.  相似文献

C57B1/6 mice aged 3, 10, and 26 months were tested for spatial learning in the Morris water maze. Ten and 26 month old mice were ad libitum-fed or diet restricted (60% of ad libitum-fed calories). Diet restriction significantly improved memory performance among the 10 and 26 month olds. In age/diet group comparisons, aged ad libitum-fed mice had significantly higher average proximity scores, indicating poorer performance, in probe trials for place learning than the 3 month olds and diet restricted 10 month olds. Diet restricted 26 month olds did not differ significantly from 3 month olds or any other groups in probe trial measures. The group means for average proximity scores were significantly correlated with binding densities for the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) subtype of glutamate receptors in the frontal cortex and CA1 region of the hippocampus. Alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazoleproprionate (AMPA) binding correlated with group proximity scores in frontal and parietal cortices and within the CA1 and CA3 regions of the hippocampus. Kainate and metabotropic binding sites showed no significant correlations with behavior. These results suggest that there is a sparing of spatial memory with diet restriction in aging C57B1/6 mice and that the effects of aging on NMDA and AMPA receptors may be associated with age-related declines in spatial learning.  相似文献

We examined a dataset derived from a battery of hematology and blood chemistry tests to identify candidate biomarkers of aging in a sample of 33 male rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) ranging in age from 4-27 years. About half this sample comprised an experimental group subjected to 30% calorie restriction for six to seven years compared to the control group fed the same nutritionally fortified diet to approximate ad lib levels. Variables that met the following criteria were selected: (1) longitudinal change within the cohorts of control monkeys; (2) cross-sectional correlation with age across the adult lifespan in the control group; (3) stability of individual differences within all groups; and (4) no obvious redundancy with other selected variables. Five variables emerged from this step-wise selection, including the percentage lymphocytes, and serum levels of alkaline phosphatase, albumin, creatinine, and calcium. These variables were then submitted to a principal component analysis, which yielded a single component accounting for about 58% of the total variance. Based on this marked degree of covariance, these candidate biomarkers of aging could be combined into a biological age score (BAS) for the control and experimental groups. When chronological age was regressed onto BAS, the slopes of the control and experimental groups could be compared. Although a trend toward a slower aging rate in calorie-restricted monkeys was apparent, this analysis did not detect a statistically significant difference in the rate of aging between these groups estimated by this index. Despite this result, a logical strategy was confirmed for expanding the search for candidate biomarkers of aging to apply to this and to other studies assessing interventions that purport to affect the rate of aging in long-lived species.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To study effects of variation in carbohydrate content of diet on glycemia and plasma lipoproteins in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). DESIGN: A four-center randomized crossover trial. SETTING: Outpatient and inpatient evaluation in metabolic units. PATIENTS: Forty-two NIDDM patients receiving glipizide therapy. INTERVENTIONS: A high-carbohydrate diet containing 55% of the total energy as carbohydrates and 30% as fats was compared with a high-monounsaturated-fat diet containing 40% carbohydrates and 45% fats. The amounts of saturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, cholesterol, sucrose, and protein were similar. The study diets, prepared in metabolic kitchens, were provided as the sole nutrients to subjects for 6 weeks each. To assess longer-term effects, a subgroup of 21 patients continued the diet they received second for an additional 8 weeks. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Fasting plasma glucose, insulin, lipoproteins, and glycosylated hemoglobin concentrations. Twenty-four-hour profiles of glucose, insulin, and triglyceride levels. RESULTS: The site of study as well as the diet order did not affect the results. Compared with the high-monounsaturated-fat diet, the high-carbohydrate diet increased fasting plasma triglyceride levels and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels by 24% (P < .0001) and 23% (P = .0001), respectively, and increased daylong plasma triglyceride, glucose, and insulin values by 10% (P = .03), 12% (P < .0001), and 9% (P = .02), respectively. Plasma total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels remained unchanged. The effects of both diets on plasma glucose, insulin, and triglyceride levels persisted for 14 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: In NIDDM patients, high-carbohydrate diets compared with high-monounsaturated-fat diets caused persistent deterioration of glycemic control and accentuation of hyperinsulinemia, as well as increased plasma triglyceride and very-low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, which may not be desirable.  相似文献

Continuous (4 days) intracerebroventricular leptin infusion (12 microg/day) was performed in lean rats, and its hormonometabolic effects were determined. Intracerebroventricular leptin administration did not result in leakage of the hormone into the peripheral circulation. Thus, its effects were elicited by its presence within the central nervous system. Intracerebroventricular leptin infusion produced marked decreases in food intake and body weight gain relative to vehicle-infused fed ad libitum rats. Because decreases in food intake alter hormonometabolic homeostasis, additional control rats pair-fed to the amount of food consumed by leptin-infused ones were included in the study. Intracerebroventricular leptin-infused and vehicle-infused pair-fed rats were characterized, relative to vehicle-infused ad libitum-fed animals, by decreases in body weight and insulinemia and by increases in insulin-stimulated overall glucose utilization and muscle and brown adipose tissue glucose utilization index. Brown adipose tissue uncoupling protein (UCP)1, UCP2, and UCP3 mRNA levels were markedly decreased in pair-fed animals relative to those of fed ad libitum control animals, as were liver and white adipose tissue UCP2 and muscle UCP3 mRNA levels. In marked contrast, intracerebroventricular leptin administration was accompanied by the maintenance of high UCP1, UCP2, and UCP3 expression in all these tissues. Thus, despite analogies between leptin's effects and those of pair-feeding with regard to glucose handling, their respective underlying mechanisms differ. While leptin maintains or favors energy-dissipating mechanisms (UCP1, UCP2, and UCP3), the latter are markedly depressed in pair-fed rats. This effect of leptin may prevent subsequent excessive storage processes, thereby maintaining normal body homeostasis.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: No one has previously examined the relation of serum total cholesterol, serum triglycerides and fasting plasma glucose to colorectal carcinoma in situ. METHODS: A case-control study was performed with 129 cases of colorectal carcinoma in situ and 258 matched controls among examinees undergoing a health check-up in Tokyo from January 1991 to March 1993. RESULTS: There was a significant, positive association between serum total cholesterol levels and the risk of colorectal carcinoma in situ after adjustment for age, sex, body mass index, smoking status and alcohol consumption. Serum triglyceride levels were significantly and positively associated with colorectal carcinoma in situ risk regardless of adjustment for the above covariates. Although there was no clear relation between colorectal carcinoma in situ and fasting plasma glucose levels, a modest increase of colorectal carcinoma in situ risk was observed in the highest category (> or =116 mg/dl) of fasting plasma glucose levels. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest a positive association between serum total cholesterol levels and the risk of colorectal cancer, rather than an inverse relation. The strong association with serum triglyceride levels and the weak association with fasting plasma glucose levels support the hypothesis that hyperinsulinaemia may play an important role in colorectal carcinogenesis.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: A cohort study was performed of 8 people sealed inside Biosphere 2 to evaluate the effects of dietary restriction in humans on lipid and lipoprotein levels and the relationship of these levels to energy, fat, and protein content of the diet, and body weight, weight change, and energy expenditure. METHODS: Eight healthy people aged 27 to 67 years, 4 women and 4 men, were sealed inside Biosphere 2 from September 26, 1991, to September 26, 1993, the longest sustained period in an "isolated confined environment" on record. They were studied throughout confinement and for more than 2 years after their exit and return to an ad libitum diet. Food available was severely restricted during most of the 2-year period inside Biosphere 2. High work output was maintained and food quality remained high, resulting in prolonged restriction of energy intake without malnutrition. RESULTS: Fasting plasma cholesterol, triglyceride, and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels; HDL subfraction distribution; dietary energy, fat, and protein content intake; and height, weight, weight change, and energy expenditure were measured. Total plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels decreased 30% and 45%, respectively. The HDL and low-density lipoprotein levels also decreased and, in some participants, levels of HDL2 subfractions were increased. Multivariate analysis showed that the major cause of these changes was energy restriction. CONCLUSIONS: Energy restriction was the major factor leading to low lipid and lipoprotein levels. Energy restriction with adequate nutrition of young and middle-aged people may substantially reduce risk for atherosclerosis and consequent coronary artery and cerebrovascular disease.  相似文献

Insulin resistance is a common syndrome that often precedes the development of noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Both diet and genetic factors are associated with insulin resistance. BTBR and C57BL/6J (B6) mice have normal insulin responsiveness and normal fasting plasma insulin levels. However, a cross between these two strains yielded male offspring with severe insulin resistance. Surprisingly, on a basal diet (6.5% fat), the insulin resistance was not associated with fasting hyperinsulinemia. However, a 15% fat diet produced significant hyperinsulinemia in the male mice (twofold at 10 weeks; P < .05). At 10 weeks of age, visceral fat contributed approximately 4.3% of the total body weight in the males versus 1.8% in females. In the males, levels of plasma triacylglycerol and total cholesterol increased 40% and 30%, respectively, compared to females. Plasma free fatty acid concentrations were unchanged. Oral glucose tolerance tests revealed significant levels of hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia 15 to 90 minutes after oral glucose administration in the male mice. This was particularly dramatic in males on a 15% fat diet. Glucose transport was examined in skeletal muscles in (BTBR x B6)F1 mice. In the nonhyperinsulinemic animals (females), insulin stimulated 2-deoxyglucose transport 3.5-fold in the soleus and 2.8-fold in the extensor digitorum longus muscles. By contrast, glucose transport was not stimulated in the hyperinsulinemic male mice. Hypoxia stimulates glucose transport through an insulin-independent mechanism. This is known to involve the translocation of GLUT4 from an intracellular pool to the plasma membrane. In the insulin-resistant male mice, hypoxia induced glucose transport as effectively as it did in the insulin-responsive mice. Thus, defective glucose transport in the (BTBR x B6)F1 mice is specific for insulin-stimulated glucose transport. This is similar to what has been observed in muscles taken from obese NIDDM patients. These animals represent an excellent genetic model for studying insulin resistance and investigating the transition from insulin resistance in the absence of hyperinsulinemia to insulin resistance with hyperinsulinemia.  相似文献

The cholesterolaemic effect of 2 hypercholesterolaemic diets was tested in 12 rat inbred strains. Diet I is a commercial diet supplemented with 2.0% (w/w) cholesterol and 5.0% (w/w) olive oil; diet II is identical to diet I with addition of 0.5% (w/w) sodium cholate. Strains with the highest plasma cholesterol response after diet I (BN and LEW) also had the highest cholesterol response after diet II (hyperresponders, mean response > 3.5 mmol/l). In the strains DA, SHR, BC, WAG, LOU, PVG and BUF the strain mean cholesterol response remained below 1.3 mmol/l after both diets (hyporesponders). Strains F344 and OM had an intermediate cholesterol response after both diets (normoresponders, mean response between 1.3 and 3.5 mmol/l). Only in the strains LOU, PVG and SHR there appeared to be a significant higher cholesterol response after diet II when compared with the cholesterol response after diet I. In the strain WKY this difference was of a borderline significance (P = 0.052) and this strain turned from a normoresponder after diet I into a hyperresponder after diet II. Liver cholesterol levels as measured after feeding diet II for two weeks also appeared to be strain-specific. No correlation was found between the plasma cholesterol response after diet II and the liver cholesterol levels. Changes in plasma phospholipid and triglyceride levels have been measured for both diet I and diet II. For group means a correlation between the cholesterol response and the change in phospholipid levels was found (r = 0.86 for diet I, P < 0.001 and r = 0.76 for diet II, P < 0.01). No such correlation was found for triglyceride levels.  相似文献

Many, but not all, adult rhesus monkeys spontaneously develop significant increases in body fat mass, and many, but not all, progress to develop overt adult-onset type II diabetes. The purpose of this study was to determine whether both an increase in body fat and onset of diabetes could be simultaneously prevented through long-term maintenance of stable normal adult body weight by caloric titration. Eight adult male monkeys were provided a complete normal chow diet, but with daily amounts restricted and titrated on a weekly basis to maintain a constant body weight (weight-stabilized group). This regimen has been continued for 5-9 yr (mean +/- SD of 7 +/- 0.5 yr) with monkeys attaining the age of 17.9 +/- 0.6 yr and with maintenance of normal body fat (17.7 +/- 1.8%). The age-matched ad libitum fed group (18.1 +/- 0.2 yr of age) consisted of 19 monkeys maintained under identical laboratory conditions and diet, but with food available ad libitum. Results showed weight-stabilized monkeys weighed significantly less than ad libitum fed monkeys (10.4 +/- 0.2 vs. 16.1 +/- 0.7 kg, respectively, P < 0.05) and had significantly better glucose tolerance as measured by Kglucose (glucose disappearance rate) (3.9 +/- 0.3 vs. 2.4 +/- 0.2, P +/- 0.05). Of the 19 ad libitum fed age-matched monkeys, 4 were overtly diabetic, and 6 others had significantly reduced glucose tolerance. Hyperinsulinemia did not develop in the weight-stabilized group, and beta-cell response to glucose remained normal; both were significantly different from the exaggerated levels of the ad libitum fed group (P < 0.05).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The present study was designed to determine whether the memory sparing effects of dietary restriction during aging could be through an effect on ionotropic glutamate receptors. Quantitative autoradiography was performed on 3, 10, and 26 month old mice to examine the density changes of NMDA, AMPA and kainate binding sites in aging animals. Spatial memory performance was also tested in these mice with the use of the Morris water maze. The 10 and 26 month olds were either ad libitum-fed or diet-restricted (60% of ad libitum-fed calories). Ad libitum-fed, 26 month old mice had significant decreases in NMDA-displaceable [3H]glutamate in all ten cortical, two out of seven hippocampal, and two out of four subcortical regions, as compared to 3 month olds. Diet-restricted, 26 month old mice only differed significantly from young in three cortical and two subcortical regions. The aged ad libitum-fed mice exhibited significantly poorer performance in the spatial memory task than all other groups. The diet-restricted 26 month olds only performed significantly worse than 3 month olds and diet-restricted 10 month olds. These results suggest that some of the memory sparing effects of dietary restriction on aged animals may be due to an influence on NMDA receptors.  相似文献

To investigate whether dietary fat source and energy restriction interactively influence plasma leptin levels and its association of leptin with insulin action, rats were fed diets containing either fish, safflower oil, or beef tallow (20% wt/wt) for 10 weeks. Groups of rats consumed each diet ad libitum or at 85% or 70% of ad libitum energy intake in a design that held fat intake constant. Graded levels of energy restriction caused body weight to decrease (P < 0.001) differently according to the dietary fat provided. Plasma leptin concentrations were 60% higher (P < 0.05) in the groups fed fish oil and safflower oil ad libitum compared with those in the beef tallow group, despite smaller perirenal fat mass and fat cell size in the fish oil-fed animals. Energy restriction resulted in a 62% decrease (P < 0.05) in leptin levels in fish oil- and safflower oil-fed rats, whereas no changes were observed in beef tallow-fed animals. Plasma insulin levels were lower (P < 0.05) in the fish oil group fed ad libitum compared with those in the two other diet groups. These data demonstrate a hyperleptinemic effect in animals consuming diets rich in polyunsaturated fatty acid, which can be normalized to the level of saturated fat consumption by mild energy restriction. Thus, dietary fatty acid composition, independent of adipose tissue mass, is an important determinant of circulating leptin level in diet-induced obesity.  相似文献
