In this study, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were fabricated using nanocrystalline titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles as photoanode. Photoanode thin films were prepared by doctor blading method with 420 kg/cm2 of mechanical compression process and heat treatment in the air at 500°C for 30 min. The optimal thickness of the TiO2 NP photoanode is 26.6 μm with an efficiency of 9.01% under AM 1.5G illumination at 100 mW/cm2. The efficiency is around two times higher than that of conventional DSSCs with an uncompressed photoanode. The open-circuit voltage of DSSCs decreases as the thickness increases. One DSSC (sample D) has the highest conversion efficiency while it has the maximum short-circuit current density. The results indicate that the short-circuit current density is a compromise between two conflict factors: enlargement of the surface area by increasing photoanode thickness and extension of the electron diffusion length to the electrode as the thickness increases.  相似文献

For high solar conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells [DSSCs], TiO2 nanofiber [TN] and Ag-doped TiO2 nanofiber [ATN] have been extended to be included in TiO2 films to increase the amount of dye loading for a higher short-circuit current. The ATN was used on affected DSSCs to increase the open circuit voltage. This process had enhanced the exit in dye molecules which were rapidly split into electrons, and the DSSCs with ATN stop the recombination of the electronic process. The conversion efficiency of TiO2 photoelectrode-based DSSCs was 4.74%; it was increased to 6.13% after adding 5 wt.% ATN into TiO2 films. The electron lifetime of DSSCs with ATN increased from 0.29 to 0.34 s and that electron recombination was reduced.  相似文献

High performance is expected in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) that utilize one-dimensional (1-D) TiO2 nanostructures owing to the effective electron transport. However, due to the low dye adsorption, mainly because of their smooth surfaces, 1-D TiO2 DSSCs show relatively lower efficiencies than nanoparticle-based ones. Herein, we demonstrate a very simple approach using thick TiO2 electrospun nanofiber films as photoanodes to obtain high conversion efficiency. To improve the performance of the DSCCs, anatase-rutile mixed-phase TiO2 nanofibers are achieved by increasing sintering temperature above 500°C, and very thin ZnO films are deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) method as blocking layers. With approximately 40-μm-thick mixed-phase (approximately 15.6?wt.% rutile) TiO2 nanofiber as photoanode and 15-nm-thick compact ZnO film as a blocking layer in DSSC, the photoelectric conversion efficiency and short-circuit current are measured as 8.01% and 17.3?mA?cm?2, respectively. Intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy and intensity-modulated photovoltage spectroscopy measurements reveal that extremely large electron diffusion length is the key point to support the usage of thick TiO2 nanofibers as photoanodes with very thin ZnO blocking layers to obtain high photocurrents and high conversion efficiencies.  相似文献

In this study, the P25 titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticle (NP) thin film was coated on the fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate by a doctor blade method. The film then compressed mechanically to be the photoanode of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Various compression pressures on TiO2 NP film were tested to optimize the performance of DSSCs. The mechanical compression reduces TiO2 inter-particle distance improving the electron transport efficiency. The UV–vis spectrophotometer and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were employed to quantify the light-harvesting efficiency and the charge transport impedance at various interfaces in DSSC, respectively. The incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency was also monitored. The results show that when the DSSC fabricated by the TiO2 NP thin film compressed at pressure of 279 kg/cm2, the minimum resistance of 9.38 Ω at dye/TiO2 NP/electrolyte interfaces, the maximum short-circuit photocurrent density of 15.11 mA/cm2, and the photoelectric conversion efficiency of 5.94% were observed. Compared to the DSSC fabricated by the non-compression of TiO2 NP thin film, the overall conversion efficiency is improved over 19.5%. The study proves that under suitable compression pressure the performance of DSSC can be optimized.  相似文献

We prepared highly ordered titanium dioxide nanotube arrays (TNAs) by anodizing Ti foils in F containing electrolyte. The thickness and dye loading amount of TNAs were 26 μm and 1.06 × 10−7 mol cm−2, respectively. TiO2 nanoparticles (TNPs) were electrophoretically deposited on the inner wall of nanotube to produce coated nanotube arrays (TNAP). The dye loading was increased to 1.56 × 10−7 mol cm−2, and the electron transport rate improved. TNAs and TNAP were sensitized with ruthenium dye N3 to yield dye-sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells. The power conversion efficiency of TNA-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was 4.28%, whereas the efficiency of TNAP-based DSSCs increased to 6.28% when illuminated from the counter electrode. The increase of power conversion efficiency of TNAP-based DSSCs is ascribed to the increased surface area of TNAs and the faster electron transport rate.  相似文献

TiO2/modified natural bentonite clay semiconductor, as a potential electrode of dye-sensitized solar cell, having a Ti:Si molar ratio of 85:15 was, for the first time, compared with pure TiO2 (commercial P25) electrode in terms of solar cell efficiency and characteristics. 4-Chloro-2,5-difluorobenzoic acid and 4-(chloromethyl)benzoyl chloride were added to the electrodes to increase light harvesting ability of natural dyes extracted from red cabbage, rosella, and blue pea. The results showed that the TiO2/clay semiconductor provided a higher surface area but a slightly lower efficiency than the pure TiO2. The best natural sensitizer was found to be the dye extracted from red cabbage. Besides, the 4-(chloromethyl)benzoyl chloride provided a higher short circuit current for the TiO2/clay semiconductor.  相似文献

An alkoxy-substituted ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) trimer is designed and synthesized which has shown a low oxidation potential of 0.50 V versus saturated calomel electrode (SCE). In situ polymerization of the trimer in a thin layer electrolytic cell using organic dye adsorbed on TiO2 as the working electrode yielded alkoxy-substituted poly(ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). With D149 as the dye sensitizer and the in situ polymerized polymer as hole-transporting material (HTM), dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were fabricated to show a typical power conversion efficiency of 3.97% under AM 1.5 G (100 mW cm−2) illumination. The results show good promise of in situ polymerized conjugated polymers as HTM for iodine/iodide redox-free DSSC applications.  相似文献

Here, we report a novel double‐layer structure photoanode with TiO2 nanotube (TNT) layer and TiO2 nanoparticle (TP) layer via a two‐step method of electrochemical anodization and screen printing for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The results indicate that DSSCs with this double‐layer structure have significant advantages of large surface area, long electron lifetime, superior electron recombination restraint characteristics, and high light scattering. The layer thickness of nanotubes and nanoparticles is also investigated and finally an optimized double‐layer structure with excellent performance is prepared. With such a double‐layer structure photoanode, DSSC with a relative high conversion efficiency of 6.43% and a short‐circuit photocurrent density of 16.40 mA·cm?2 is obtained.  相似文献

The dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) using Ti foil supporting substrate for fabricating nanocrystalline TiO2 flexible film electrodes were developed, intending to improve the photoelectrochemical properties of flexible substrate-based DSSCs. The obtained cells were characterized by electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS), open circuit voltage decay (OCVD) measurement and Tafel plots. The experimental results indicate that the most important advantage of a Ti foil-based TiO2 flexible electrode over a FTO glass-based electrode lies in its reduced sheet resistance, electron traps, and the retarded back reaction of electrons with tri-iodine ions in DSSCs. All above characteristics for the Ti substrate TiO2 films are beneficial for decreasing the charge recombination in the TiO2 electrode and prolonging the electron lifetimes for the DSSCs, as well as improvement of the overall solar conversion efficiency. The photocurrent of the cell fabricated with the Ti foil-based flexible electrode increased significantly, leading to a much higher overall solar conversion efficiency of 5.45% at 100 mW/cm2 than the cell made with FTO glass-based TiO2 electrodes. Above results demonstrate that Ti foil is a potential alternative to the conventional FTO glass substrate for the DSSCs.  相似文献

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are fabricated based on double-layered composite films of TiO2 nanoparticles and hollow spheres. The photoelectric conversion performances of DSSCs based on nanoparticles/nanoparticles (PP), hollow spheres/hollow spheres (HH), hollow spheres/nanoparticles (HP), and nanoparticles/hollow spheres (PH) double-layered films are investigated, and their photo-electric conversion efficiencies are 4.33, 4.72, 4.93 and 5.28%, respectively. The enhanced performance of TiO2 nanoparticles/hollow spheres double-layered composite film solar cells can be attributed to the combined effect of following factors. The light scattering of overlayer hollow spheres enhances harvesting light of the DSSCs and the underlayer TiO2 nanoparticle layer ensures good electronic contact between film electrode and the F-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate. Furthermore, the high surface areas and pore volume of TiO2 hollow spheres are respectively beneficial to adsorption of dye molecules and transfer of electrolyte solution.  相似文献

Mesoporous TiO2 microspheres were successfully synthesized by a facile hydrothermal process and the obtained product was sintered at 450 °C. The sintered TiO2 powder was characterised by powder X-ray diffraction pattern and the result shows pure anatase phase with good crystalline nature. The morphological image of field emission scanning electron microscopy and high resolution transmission electron microscopy shows spherical shape and size of the particles is around 100 to 300 nm. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area of synthesized TiO2 material was 56.32 m2 g?1 and average pore width of synthesized materials was 7.1 and 9.3 nm. Bimodal pore structure of TiO2 microspheres has been very effective for electrolyte diffusion into photoanode in dye sensitized solar cells. The synthesized anatase TiO2 microsphere based dye sensitized solar cells have high surface area with light scattering effect to enhance the photocurrent and conversion efficiency than the commercial P25 photoanode material. The power conversion efficiency of synthesized mesoporous TiO2 microspheres and commercial P25 material is 4.2 and 2.7 % respectively. Therefore bimodal mesoporous anatase TiO2 microsphere appears to be a promising and potential candidate for dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) application.  相似文献

The plasmonic effects of infiltrated silver (Ag) nanoparticles, with different contents, inside a nanostructured TiO2 film on the photovoltaic performance of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are explored. The synthesized Ag nanoparticles are immobilized onto deposited TiO2 nanoparticles by a new strategy using 3‐mercaptopropionic acid (MPA), a bifunctional linker molecule. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) images show that monodispersed Ag and polydispersed TiO2 nanoparticles have an average diameter of 12 ± 3 nm and 5 ± 1 nm, respectively. Moreover, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis reveals that Ag nanoparticles were successfully functionalized and capped with MPA. Optical studies on the MPA‐capped Ag nanoparticles inside TiO2 film show an increase in the total absorbance of the electrode. Moreover, EIS measurements confirm that MPA‐capped Ag nanoparticles inhibit the charge recombination and improve the stability of nanoparticles in I3?/I? electrolyte. The DSSC assembled with optimal content of MPA‐capped Ag nanoparticles demonstrated an enhanced power conversion efficiency (8.82% ± 0.07%) compared with the pure TiO2 (7.30% ± 0.05%). The increase in cell efficiency was attributed to the enhanced dye light absorption in strength and spectral range due to the surface plasmon resonance of MPA‐capped Ag nanoparticles in the photoanode.  相似文献

Quasi solid state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been fabricated with organic sol or TiCl4 modified TiO2 and porous TiO2 photoanode and a triphenylamine-based dye (TPAR3) used as photosensitizer. Dark current measurements suggested that both modified TiO2 photoelectrodes had significantly reduced the recombination rate of photoelectrons due to the reduced bare FTO surface in comparison to porous photoelectrode. The DSSC based on modified TiO2 photoelectrodes showed improved photovoltaic parameters compared to the porous TiO2 photoelectrode. The overall power conversion efficiency (PCE) is 3.27%, 4.73% and 6.8% for porous, TiCl4 modified and sol modified TiO2 photoelectrodes, respectively. The improved PCE with modified TiO2 electrodes was attributed to the formation of a compact layer. This effectively improves adherence of TiO2 to FTO surface, providing a larger TiO2/FTO contact area and reducing the electron recombination by blocking the direct contact between redox electrolyte and the conductive FTO surface and enhances the electron collection efficiency.  相似文献

The synthesis of new organic hole transporting materials (HTMs) based on 3,6‐disubstituted 9H‐carbazole‐3,6‐diamine,N,N,N′,N′‐tetraphenyl‐9‐(4‐methoxyphenyl) derivatives and their applications in solid state dye sensitizer solar cells (DSSCs) are described. The effect of the methoxy group localized on the para position of the diphenylamine moieties on the thermal, electronic and electrochemical properties and photovoltaic performance is discussed. In solid state DSSCs, utilization of the aforementioned HTMs in combination with the dye D102 (TiO2/D102/HTM/Au) shows a positive influence of the methoxy group on the photovoltaic conversion efficiency compared with unsubstituted diphenylamine grafted groups. A study on the concentration of the HTM is also carried out and shows an optimal concentration around 200 mg mL?1. Without further optimization, the best device gives a power conversion efficiency of 1.75% under AM 1.5 solar irradiation (100 mW cm?2).  相似文献

The photoelectrochemical properties of a high molar extinction coefficient charge transfer organic dye containing thienylfluorene segment called FL, and the effect of incorporating TiO2 nanotube (TiNT) in TiO2 nanoparticle film along with the above dye on the photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were investigated. The influence of soaking time of the TiO2 electrode in dye solution and the effect of varying its concentration, on the solar cell efficiency was also studied. Cyclic voltammetric (CV) analysis revealed the linear relationship between the anodic peak current and the scan rate, indicating a surface-confined diffusion process. The surface morphology of TiNT was characterized using SEM, TEM and XRD. The open-circuit voltage (VOC) of the DSSC increased with the increase in the wt% of TiNT and shows optimal value at about 5 wt%, which is correlated with the suppression of the electron recombination as found out from the electron lifetime studies. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique was employed to quantify the charge transport resistance (Rct) and electron lifetime under different ratios of the TiNT/nanoparticle. The electron lifetimes of the DSSCs based on FL and N3 dye were very close to one another and the DSSC based on the FL showed respectable photovoltaic performance of ca. 7.8% under the light intensity of 100 mW cm−2 (AM 1.5G).  相似文献

A visible light active binary SnO2-TiO2 composite was successfully prepared by a sol-gel method and deposited on Ti sheet as a photoanode to degrade orange II dye. Titanium and SnO2 can promote the development of rutile phase of TiO2 and inhibit the formation of anatase phase of TiO2. Formation of SnO2 crystalline is insignificant even when the calcination temperature increases to 700 °C. Heterogenized interface between SnO2 and TiO2 inhibits growth of TiO2 linkage and leads to the particle-filled surface morphology of SnO2-containing films. The carbonaceous, Ti-O-C bonds and Ti3+ species are likely to account for the photoabsorption and photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) activity under visible light illumination. The electrode with 30% SnO2 exhibits higher photocurrent when compared with those in the region of 0-50%. The 600 °C-calcined SnO2-TiO2 electrode indicates higher activity when compared with those at 400, 500, 700 and 800 °C. PEC degradation of orange II follows the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model and takes place much effectively in a solution of pH 3.0 than those in pH 7.0 and pH 11.0.  相似文献

This paper reports the effects of the seed layers prepared by spin-coating and dip-coating methods on the morphology and density of ZnO nanowire arrays, thus on the performance of ZnO nanowire-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The nanowire films with the thick ZnO buffer layer (~0.8–1 μm thick) can improve the open circuit voltage of the DSSCs through suppressing carrier recombination, however, and cause the decrease of dye loading absorbed on ZnO nanowires. In order to further investigate the effect of TiO2 buffer layer on the performance of ZnO nanowire-based DSSCs, compared with the ZnO nanowire-based DSSCs without a compact TiO2 buffer layer, the photovoltaic conversion efficiency and open circuit voltage of the ZnO DSSCs with the compact TiO2 layer (~50 nm thick) were improved by 3.9–12.5 and 2.4–41.7%, respectively. This can be attributed to the introduction of the compact TiO2 layer prepared by sputtering method, which effectively suppressed carrier recombination occurring across both the film–electrolyte interface and the substrate–electrolyte interface.  相似文献

Negative-charged polystyrene (PS) microspheres were prepared through a soap-free emulsion polymerization method using potassium persulfate as initiator. Three-dimensionally ordered macroporous TiO2 films were fabricated using the high-quality PS colloidal crystals templates obtained via a horizontal deposition method. The as-prepared macroporous TiO2 films were applied as the photoanodes in dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). The microstructure of the products were characterized by X-ray diffractometer, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption–desorption analyzer. The results showed that the macroporous TiO2 films replicated well the 3D ordered structure derived from PS colloidal crystal templates and revealed a relatively large specific surface area (69.99 m2/g), which could increase the capacity of TiO2 film anode for absorbing dyes and scattering light. The photocurrent–voltage (IV) characteristics of DSSC were measured by a digital source meter under simulated solar light. The results indicated that the introduction of an ordered macroporous TiO2 interfacial layer increased the photovoltaic conversion efficiency, which was improved by 68 % from 3.61 to 6.08 %, as compared to a device using a bare P25 TiO2 photoanode. Our results showed that the hierarchically ordered macroporous TiO2 bilayer films photoanode for DSSC could be helpful to improve the photovoltaic conversion efficiency.  相似文献

ClO4-poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/TiO2/FTO (ClO4-PEDOT/TiO2/FTO) counter electrode (CE) in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is fabricated by using an electrochemical deposition method. Comparing with the DSSCs with ClO4-PEDOT/FTO counter electrode, the photocurrent-voltage (I-V) measurement reveals that the photocurrent conversion efficiency (η), fill factor (FF) and short-circuit current density (JSC) of DSSCs with a ClO4-PEDOT/TiO2/FTO CE increase. The enhanced performances of the DSSCs are attributed to the higher JSC arising from the increase of active surface area of ClO4-PEDOT/TiO2/FTO CE. Electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) also indicate that the charge-transfer resistance on the ClO4-PEDOT/electrolyte interface decreases. Cyclic voltammetry results indicate that the ClO4-PEDOT/TiO2/FTO electrode shows higher activity towards I3/I redox reaction than that of ClO4-PEDOT/FTO electrode.  相似文献

Nanostructural TiO2 films with large surface areas were prepared by the combined process of graft polymerization and sol–gel for use in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The surface of the TiO2 nanoparticles was first graft polymerized with photodegradable poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), after which the particles were deposited onto a conducting glass. The PMMA chains were removed from the TiO2 films by UV irradiation to generate secondary pores, into which titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) was infiltrated. The TTIP was then converted into small TiO2 particles by calcination at 450 °C, as characterized by energy-filtering transmission electron microscopy (EF-TEM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The nanostructural TiO2 films were used as a photoelectrode in solid-state DSSCs; the energy conversion efficiency was 5.1% at 100 mW/cm2, which was higher than the values achieved by the pristine TiO2 (3.8%) and nongrafted TiO2/TTIP photoelectrodes (3.3%). This performance enhancement is primarily due to the increased surface area and pore volume of TiO2 films, as revealed by the N2 adsorption–desorption isotherm.  相似文献
