This study considers a single machine group scheduling problem with deteriorating jobs and resource allocation (controllable processing times). The objective is to have the resource availability limited within a given range, and to minimize the maximum completion time (i.e. the makespan). For two special cases, it is proved that the problem can be solved in polynomial time. For the general case, an heuristic algorithm and a branch-and-bound algorithm are proposed. Computational results show that the proposed heuristic algorithm is generally effective.  相似文献

This article considers the parallel machine scheduling problem with step-deteriorating jobs and sequence-dependent setup times. The objective is to minimize the total tardiness by determining the allocation and sequence of jobs on identical parallel machines. In this problem, the processing time of each job is a step function dependent upon its starting time. An individual extended time is penalized when the starting time of a job is later than a specific deterioration date. The possibility of deterioration of a job makes the parallel machine scheduling problem more challenging than ordinary ones. A mixed integer programming model for the optimal solution is derived. Due to its NP-hard nature, a hybrid discrete cuckoo search algorithm is proposed to solve this problem. In order to generate a good initial swarm, a modified Biskup–Hermann–Gupta (BHG) heuristic called MBHG is incorporated into the population initialization. Several discrete operators are proposed in the random walk of Lévy flights and the crossover search. Moreover, a local search procedure based on variable neighbourhood descent is integrated into the algorithm as a hybrid strategy in order to improve the quality of elite solutions. Computational experiments are executed on two sets of randomly generated test instances. The results show that the proposed hybrid algorithm can yield better solutions in comparison with the commercial solver CPLEX® with a one hour time limit, the discrete cuckoo search algorithm and the existing variable neighbourhood search algorithm.  相似文献

Bilevel scheduling problems constitute a hardly studied area of scheduling theory. In this paper, we summarise the basic concepts of bilevel optimisation, and discuss two problem classes for which we establish various complexity and algorithmic results. The first one is the bilevel total weighted completion time problem in which the leader assigns the jobs to parallel machines and the follower sequences the jobs assigned to each machine. Both the leader and the follower aims to minimise the total weighted completion time objective, but with different job weights. When the leader’s weights are arbitrary, the problem is NP-hard. However, when all the jobs are of unit weight for the leader, we provide a heuristic algorithm based on iterative LP-rounding along with computational results, and provide a sufficient condition when the LP-solution is integral. In addition, if the follower weights induce a monotone (increasing or decreasing) processing time order in any optimal solution, the problem becomes polynomially solvable. As a by-product, we characterise a new polynomially solvable special case of the MAX m-CUT problem, and provide a new linear programming formulation for the P||?j Cj{P||\sum_j C_j} problem. Finally, we present some results on the bilevel order acceptance problem, where the leader decides on the acceptance of orders and the follower sequences the jobs. Each job has a deadline and if a job is accepted, it cannot be late. The leader’s objective is to maximise the total weight of accepted jobs, whereas the follower aims at minimising the total weighted job completion times. For this problem, we generalise some known single-level machine scheduling algorithms.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of minimising makespan on a single batch processing machine with flexible periodic preventive maintenance. This problem combines two sub-problems, scheduling on a batch processing machine with jobs’ release dates considered and arranging the preventive maintenance activities on a batch processing machine. The preventive maintenance activities are flexible but the maximum continuous working time of the machine, which is allowed, is determined. A mathematical model for integrating flexible periodic preventive maintenance into batch processing machine problem is proposed, in which the grouping of jobs with incompatible job families, the starting time of batches and the preventive maintenance activities are optimised simultaneously. A method combining rules with the genetic algorithm is proposed to solve this model, in which a batching rule is proposed to group jobs with incompatible job families into batches and a modified genetic algorithm is proposed to schedule batches and arrange preventive maintenance activities. The computational results indicate the method is effective under practical problem sizes. In addition, the influences of jobs’ parameters on the performance of the method are analyzed, such as the number of jobs, the number of job families, jobs’ processing time and jobs’ release time.  相似文献

The scheduling of parallel machines is a well-known problem in many companies. Nevertheless, not always all the jobs can be manufactured in any machine and the eligibility appears. Based on a real-life problem, we present a model which has m parallel machines with different level of quality from the highest level for the first machine till the lowest level for the last machine. The set of jobs to be scheduled on these m parallel machines are also distributed among these m levels: one job from a level can be manufactured in a machine of the same or higher level but a penalty, depending on the level, appears when a job is manufactured in a machine different from the highest level i.e. different from the first machine. Besides, there are release dates and delivery times associated to each job. The tackled problem is bi-objective with the criteria: minimisation of the final date – i.e. the maximum for all the jobs of their completion time plus the delivery time – and the minimisation of the total penalty generated by the jobs. In a first step, we analyse the sub-problem of minimisation of the final date on a single machine for jobs with release dates and delivery times. Four heuristics and an improvement algorithm are proposed and compared on didactic examples and on a large set of instances. In a second step an algorithm is proposed to approximate the set of efficient solutions and the Pareto front of the bi-objective problem. This algorithm contains two phases: the first is a depth search phase and the second is a backtracking phase. The procedure is illustrated in detail on an instance with 20 jobs and 3 machines. Then extensive numerical experiments are realised on two different sets of instances, with 20, 30 and 50 jobs, 3 or 4 machines and various values of penalties. Except for the case of 50 jobs, the results are compared with the exact Pareto front.  相似文献

The burn-in test scheduling problem (BTSP) is a variation of the complex batch processing machine scheduling problem, which is also a generalisation of the liquid crystal injection scheduling problem with incompatible product families and classical identical parallel machine problem. In the case we investigated on the BTSP, the jobs are clustered by their product families. The product families can be clustered by different product groups. In the same product group, jobs with different product families can be processed as a batch. The batch processing time is dependent on the longest processing time of those jobs in that batch. Setup times between two consecutive batches of different product groups on the same batch machine are sequentially dependent. In addition, the unequal ready times are considered in the BTSP which involves the decisions of batch formation and batch scheduling in order to minimise the total machine workload without violating due dates and the limited machine capacity restrictions. Since the BTSP involves constraints on unequal ready time, batch dependent processing time, and sequence dependent setup times, it is more difficult to solve than the classical parallel batch processing machine scheduling problem with compatible product families or incompatible product families. These restrictions mean that the existing methods cannot be applied into real-world factories directly. Consequently, this paper proposes a mixed integer programming model to solve the BTSP exactly. In addition, two efficient solution procedures which solve the BTSP are also presented.  相似文献

This paper considers the parallel batch processing machine scheduling problem which involves the constraints of unequal ready times, non-identical job sizes, and batch dependent processing times in order to sequence batches on identical parallel batch processing machines with capacity restrictions. This scheduling problem is a practical generalisation of the classical parallel batch processing machine scheduling problem, which has many real-world applications, particularly, in the aging test operation of the module assembly stage in the manufacture of thin film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCD). The objective of this paper is to seek a schedule with a minimum total completion time for the parallel batch processing machine scheduling problem. A mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model is proposed to optimise the scheduling problem. In addition, to solve the MILP model more efficiently, an effective compound algorithm is proposed to determine the number of batches and to apply this number as one parameter in the MILP model in order to reduce the complexity of the problem. Finally, three efficient heuristic algorithms for solving the large-scale parallel batch processing machine scheduling problem are also provided.  相似文献

The paper considers the problem of scheduling nindependent and simultaneously available jobs on a single machine, where the job processing times are compressible as a linear cost function. The objective is to find an optimal permutation of the jobs, an optimal due date and the optimal processing times which jointly minimize a cost function consisting of the earliness, tardiness, completion time and compressing costs. It shows that the problem can be solved as an assignment problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of scheduling a set of jobs on two parallel machines with set-up times. The set-up has to be performed by a single server. The objective is to minimise the forced idle time. The problem of minimising the forced idle time (interference problem) is known to be unary NP-hard for the case of two machines and equal set-up and arbitrary processing times. We propose a mixed integer linear programming model, which describes a special class of schedules where the jobs from a list are scheduled alternatively on the machines, and a heuristic algorithm is tested on instances with up to 100,000 jobs. The computational results indicate that the algorithm has an excellent performance even for very large instances, where mostly an optimal solution is obtained within a very small computational time.  相似文献

The paper addresses minimizing makespan by a genetic algorithm (GA) for scheduling jobs with non-identical sizes on a single-batch-processing machine. A batch-processing machine can process up to B jobs simultaneously. The processing time of a batch is equal to the longest processing time among all jobs in the batch. Two different GAs are proposed based on different encoding schemes. The first is a sequence-based GA (SGA) that generates random sequences of jobs using GA operators and applies the batch first fit heuristic to group the jobs. The second is a batch-based hybrid GA (BHGA) that generates random batches of jobs using GA operators and ensures feasibility by using knowledge of the problem based on a heuristic procedure. A greedy local search heuristic based on the problem characteristics is hybridized with a BHGA that has the ability of steering efficiently the search toward the optimal or near-optimal schedules. The performance of proposed GAs is compared with a simulated annealing (SA) approach proposed by Melouk et al. (Melouk, S., Damodaran, P. and Chang, P.Y., Minimizing makespan for single machine batch processing with non-identical job sizes using simulated annealing. Int. J. Prod. Econ., 2004, 87, 141–147) and also against a modified lower bound proposed for the problem. Computational results show that BHGA performs considerably well compared with the modified lower bound and significantly outperforms the SGA and SA in terms of both quality of solutions and required runtimes.  相似文献

In scheduling environments with processing time uncertainty, system performance is determined by both the sequence in which jobs are ordered and the actual processing times of jobs. For these situations, the risk of achieving substandard system performance can be an important measure of scheduling effectiveness. To hedge this risk requires an explicit consideration of both the mean and the variance of system performance associated with alternative schedules, and motivates a β-robustness objective to capture the likelihood that a schedule yields actual performance no worse than a given target level. In this paper we focus on β-robust scheduling issues in single-stage production environments with uncertain processing times. We define a general β-robust scheduling objective, formulate the β-robust scheduling problem that results when job processing times are independent random variables and the performance measure of interest is the total flow time across all jobs, establish problem complexity, and develop exact and heuristic solution approaches. We then extend the 0-robust scheduling model to consider situations where the uncertainty associated with individual job processing times can be selectively controlled through resource allocation. Computational results are reported to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the solution procedures.  相似文献

In this paper, an extension of the graph colouring problem is introduced to model a parallel machine scheduling problem with job incompatibility. To get closer to real-world applications, where the number of machines is limited and jobs have different processing times, each vertex of the graph requires multiple colours and the number of vertices with the same colour is bounded. In addition, several objectives related to scheduling are considered: makespan, number of pre-emptions and summation over the jobs’ throughput times. Different solution methods are proposed, namely, two greedy heuristics, two tabu search methods and an adaptive memory algorithm. The latter uses multiple recombination operators, each one being designed for optimising a subset of objectives. The most appropriate operator is selected dynamically at each iteration, depending on its past performance. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm is effective and robust, while providing high-quality solutions on benchmark instances for the graph multi-colouring problem, a simplification of the considered problem.  相似文献

This paper investigates an integrated bi-objective optimisation problem with non-resumable jobs for production scheduling and preventive maintenance in a two-stage hybrid flow shop with one machine on the first stage and m identical parallel machines on the second stage. Sequence-dependent set-up times and preventive maintenance (PM) on the first stage machine are considered. The scheduling objectives are to minimise the unavailability of the first stage machine and to minimise the makespan simultaneously. To solve this integrated problem, three decisions have to be made: determine the processing sequence of jobs on the first stage machine, determine whether or not to perform PM activity just after each job, and specify the processing machine of each job on the second stage. Due to the complexity of the problem, a multi-objective tabu search (MOTS) method is adapted with the implementation details. The method generates non-dominated solutions with several parallel tabu lists and Pareto dominance concept. The performance of the method is compared with that of a well-known multi-objective genetic algorithm, in terms of standard multi-objective metrics. Computational results show that the proposed MOTS yields a better approximation.  相似文献

Single machine batch scheduling with sequential job processing   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The problem of scheduling n jobs on a single machine in batches to minimize some regular cost functions is studied. Jobs within each batch are processed sequentially so that the processing time of a batch is equal to the sum of the processing times of the jobs contained in it. Jobs in the same batch are completed at the same time when the last job of the batch has finished its processing. A constant set-up time precedes the processing of each batch. The number of jobs in each batch is bounded by some value b. If b < n, then the problem is called bounded. Otherwise, it is unbounded. For both the bounded and unbounded problems, dynamic programming algorithms are presented for minimizing the maximum lateness, the number of late jobs, the total tardiness, the total weighted completion time, and the total weighted tardiness when all due dates are equal, which are polynomial if there is a fixed number of distinct due dates or processing times. More efficient algorithms are derived for some special cases of both the bounded and unbounded problems in which all due dates and/or processing times are equal. Several special cases of the bounded problem are shown to be NP-hard. Thus, a comprehensive classification of the computational complexities of the special cases is provided.  相似文献

This paper proposes an algorithm for hoist scheduling problems in a flexible PCB electroplating line where there is no buffer among workstations. Due to its chemical process nature, the processing times have to be controlled within a specified range (i.e. between a maximum processing time and a minimum processing time). The product will become defective if this constant is violated. The objective is to maximize throughput with no defective product. The proposed algorithm schedules jobs entering the system based on the specified range of processing time. A simulation study shows that the proposed algorithm outperforms the basic algorithm that schedules jobs based on the minimum processing times.  相似文献

Batch process industries are characterized by complex precedence relationships between operations, which renders the estimation of an acceptable workload very difficult. A detailed schedule based model can be used for this purpose, but for large problems this may require a prohibitive large amount of computation time. We propose a regression based model to estimate the makespan of a set of jobs. We extend earlier work based on deterministic processing times by considering Erlang-distributed processing times in our model. This regression-based model is used to support customer order acceptance. Three order acceptance policies are compared by means of simulation experiments: a scheduling policy, a workload policy and a regression policy. The results indicate that the performance of the regression policy can compete with the performance of the scheduling policy in situations with high variety in the job mix and high uncertainty in the processing times. In the stochastic online scheduling environment, jobs with unknown release times and weights arrive over time. Upon arrival, the information on the weight of the job is revealed but the processing requirement remains unknown until the job is finished. In this paper we consider the objective of minimizing the total weighted completion time. With the assumptions that job weights are bounded, machine capacity is adequate, and processing requirements are bounded and identical and independently distributed across the machines and jobs, we show that any nondelay algorithm is asymptotically optimal for the stochastic online single machine problem, flow shop problem, and uniform parallel machine problem. Our simulation studies of these stochastic online scheduling problems show that two generic nondelay algorithms perform very well as long as the number of jobs is larger than 100.  相似文献

This paper investigates a coordinated scheduling problem in a two stage supply chain where parallel-batching machine, deteriorating jobs and transportation coordination are considered simultaneously. During the production stage, jobs are processed by suppliers and there exists one parallel-batching machine in each supplier. The actual processing time of a job depends on its starting time and normal processing time. The normal processing time of a batch is equal to the largest normal processing time among all jobs in its batch. During the transportation stage, the jobs are then delivered to the manufacturer. Since suppliers are distributed in different locations, the transportation time between each supplier and the manufacturer is different. Based on some structural properties of the studied problem, an optimal algorithm for minimising makespan on a single supplier is presented. This supply chain scheduling problem is proved to be NP-hard, and a hybrid VNS-HS algorithm combining variable neighbourhood search (VNS) with harmony search (HS) is proposed to find a good solution in reasonable time. Finally, some computational experiments are conducted and the results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed VNS-HS.  相似文献

In this study, we consider the operational fixed job scheduling problem on identical parallel machines. We assume that the jobs have fixed ready times and deadlines, and spread time constraints are imposed on machines. Our objective is to select a set of jobs for processing so as to maximise the total weight. We show that the problem is strongly NP-hard, and we investigate several special polynomially solvable cases. We propose a branch and bound algorithm that employs size reduction mechanisms, dominance conditions, and powerful lower and upper bounds. The computational results reveal that the branch and bound algorithm returns optimal solutions for problem instances with up to 100 jobs in reasonable solution times.  相似文献
