In mobile networks, the location of a mobile user needs to be traced for successful and efficient call delivery. In existing cellular networks, as a mobile user changes his/her location area (LA), a location registration request is sent to the home location register (HLR) to update the user profile to point to the new LA. With a large number of mobile subscribers, this conventional registration strategy will incur a high volume of signaling traffic. We propose a new location registration strategy, called Group Registration (GR), which efficiently reduces the location registration cost by reporting location changes to the HLR for multiple mobile terminals (MTs) in a single location update request message. Specifically, the IDs of the MTs newly moving into an LA are buffered and sent to the HLR for location update in the route response message of the next incoming call to any MT in the LA. An analytic model is developed and numerical results are presented. It is shown that the proposed GR strategy can achieve significant cost reductions compared to the conventional strategy and the local anchor strategy over a wide range of system parameters. Moreover, the GR strategy results in a much smaller call delivery latency than the local anchor strategy.  相似文献

Owing to the increasing population of mobile subscribers, the rapidly expanding signaling traffic has become a challenge to the mobility management in PCS networks. Multiple database schemes to reduce signal traffic and to solve the bottleneck problem of the single home location register (HLR) architecture have been proposed by many researchers. However, in most of the multiple location databases or HLR systems, extra signaling is required for the multiple database updates. We propose a batch‐update strategy, instead of the immediate update method, for the location‐tracking schemes with replication to reduce the signaling overhead. In this paper, we first introduce a distributed HLRs architecture in which each HLR is associated with a localized set of VLRs and the location registrations and queries are processed locally. Then we propose our batch‐update strategy and present two pointing schemes for inter‐HLR call deliveries. The numerical result shows that our approach can effectively decrease the signaling cost of location registration and call delivery compared with the IS‐41 standard. The architecture of the CDMA mobile system (CMS) is developed based on three function groups - service resource, service control, and service management groups. In this paper, the CMS architecture is discussed from the point of view of implementing these functions. The variable length packets are used for transmission. The synchronization clock signals are derived from the GPS receiver. The open loop and closed loop techniques are used for the power control. The internationally accepted signaling and network protocols are employed. The call control for the primary services is designed to provide efficient mobile telecommunication services. The softer handoff is implemented in one card. The mobile assisted handoff and the network assisted handoff are employed in the soft and hard handoffs. The authentication is based on the secret data which includes random numbers. The management functions, which include the location management, resource management, cell boundary management and OAM management, are implemented to warrant the system efficiency, maximum capacity and high reliability. The architecture ensures that the CMS is flexible and expandable to provide subscribers with economic and efficient system configuration. The dynamic power control, adaptive channel allocation, and dynamic cell boundary management are recommended for future work.  相似文献

Current cellular subscribers have a geographic phone number (e.g., in AMPS and US digital cellular systems) or a number which contains the network provider's identity (e.g., in GSM), and whenever subscribers register or receive (and possibly, originate) a call, a home location register (HLR) database has to be queried. The wired infrastructure supports a function called global title translation (GTT) that converts the subscriber's number to an HLR database address. A special feature of next generation wireless access service will be to support personal communication services (PCS) and wireless subscribers with portable personal numbers, or nongeographic phone numbers (NGPNs), that do not indicate the service provider or HLR database serving the user. In addition, the GTT function may not be available when the wired backbone is an ATM network. Thus a key function required in future wireless access systems with wired ATM backbones will be the ability to translate an NGPN to the identity of the HLR which serves the subscriber, a process we call NGPN translation. We discuss the requirements of NGPN translation and some alternative schemes. We propose two schemes for fast, efficient, scalable and flexible NGPN translation which use ideas of dynamic hashing, caching, and indirection. The schemes use a hash function in the visiting location registers (VLRs) (or serving SCP) and a set of distributed translation servers which store the NGPN-to-HLR mapping. We discuss how the operations required to maintain the translation information can be performed. 位置管理或移动性管理是移动计算研究领域的一个具有挑战性的问题.我国及其他国家目前正在使用的个人通信网络如GSM、IS-41中,用两层数据库HLR/VLR支持位置管理.在这些网络中,每当移动台从一个位置区LA(Location area)移动到另一个位置区,其基本的位置管理策略(简称"基本策略")不管是否必要均立即进行位置更新操作,因而造成系统资源的极大浪费,降低了系统的性能.本文给出一种带门槛的环形搜索策略(简称"门槛环形策略")——将位置区分成环,设定一个门槛(整数),当移动台越过的位置区的环数没有达到门槛时,系统不进行位置更新操作,以减少位置管理的费用.在假定移动台的呼入是一个泊松过程,移动台在各个位置区的逗留时间是符合一般概率分布的随机变量的条件下,推导出在两次呼入之间移动台处于各位置区环的概率及移动台所越过的位置区环数公式,给出了"门槛环形策略"的位置管理费用小于"基本策略"的条件.  相似文献

cdma2000lx无线接入安全基于对称密钥技术,为用户提供匿名服务、基于质询/应答的认证服务、语音保密、控制信令加密和用户数据加密,采用CAVE、专用长码掩码、ORYX和E-CMEA四种安全算法。安全协议依赖于主密钥(A-Key)和移动台的电子序列号(ESN),A-Key仅对移动台和归属位置寄存器,认证中心是可知的。不直接参与认证和保密,而是用于产生共享秘密数据(SSD),再由SSD生成子密钥用于语音、信令和用户数据的保密。本研究上述安全机制,分析其安全漏洞。  相似文献

Many protocols have been proposed for solving the user authentication in portable communication system. One of the schemes is based on the delegation concept. Home Location Register (HLR) delegates Mobile Station (MS) to be authenticated by Visitor Location Register (VLR). The main drawback of the scheme is that the HLR is required during the online authentication phase between VLR and MS. In this paper, a double delegation-based authentication and key agreement protocol is proposed. The main advantage of our protocol is that this scheme requires only MS and VLR online. This protocol will thoroughly utilize the proxy signature features to facilitate the operation of this protocol while only requires two members (MS, VLR) to be online at the same time.  相似文献

In this letter, an integrated location information management strategy is proposed for mobile networks, where local anchor and replica are deployed to efficiently manage the location information of a mobile terminal (MT) based on its call and mobility characteristics. As an MT's user is roaming within the local signal transfer point (LSTP) region serving the user's home or workplace, the MT's location change is reported to a local anchor (LA)-the visitor location register (VLR) associated with the user's home or workplace. Meanwhile, the LA's location is replicated at several switches (called the replicas) originating relatively high call rates to the MT. As a result, the MT's home location register (HLR) needs to be accessed only when the MT changes its LSTP region or an incoming call for the MT is generated by a nonreplica originating switch. 鉴权管理是移动通信移动管理中非常重要的技术,其策略的选择将直接影响网络中各网元的信令负荷。本文主要讨论移动通信系统前向指针位置管理策略中的鉴权管理。当用户在远离其HLR的不同VLR对应覆盖区域移动时,系统通过向其原VLR索取剩余鉴权数据或向其HLR申请新鉴权数据来实现用户的鉴权管理。通过鉴权开销及被呼处理时延等指标的分析,本文提出的鉴权管理算法较适合于CMR较小的MS鉴权管理;当MS的CMR增大时,本文提出的鉴权管理算法与二层管理策略如GSM或IS-41移动系统的开销及时延等指标逐渐接近。  相似文献

One of the challenging tasks in Personal Communication Services (PCS) is to efficiently maintain the location of PCS subscribers who move from one region to another (hereafter called mobile users). When a mobile user receives a call, the network has to quickly determine its current location. The existing location management scheme suffers from high signaling traffic in locating the mobile users. Two-level forwarding pointer scheme has been proposed from per-user forwarding pointer scheme to reduce the cost of signaling traffic. In this paper, we enhance the two-level forwarding pointer scheme. When a mobile user moves from its current Registered Area (RA), which is served by Mobile Switching Center (MSC), to another RA the local switch that acts as a parent of those two MSCs maintains this movement in its memory (hereafter called cache entry). A cache entry is used to locate rapidly the mobile user instead of querying the Home Location Register (HLR) and waiting for its reply. HLR is centralized in the network and far away from the mobile users so that the signaling traffic crossing it is expensive. Sometimes the cache entry may be failed to reach the mobile user then a two-level forwarding pointers will be created from the corresponding Visitor Location Register (VLR), attached to its MSC, through a correct path to locate the mobile user. Thus, there is a saving in cost of querying the underlying HLR. The analytical results indicate that such proposal efficiently reduces the signaling traffic cost for all values of Call to Mobility Ratio (CMR), this is especially considerable when CMR ≥1, without any increase in the call setup delay. The CDMA Mobile System (CMS) has been developed by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and fieldtested for commercial ser- vice deployment in Korea. The project was started in 1989 and completed in 1995 with the CMS commercial test. During the course of development, there had been active technical cooperation with Qualcomm, Inc. and Korean manufacturers. The CMS adopted the basic CDMA concepts conforming to Korean CDMA system which was derived from IS-95. The CMS functions are allocated to subsystems by considering efficiency and expandability. The CMS consists of mobile stations and the infrastructure which is composed of base stations, mobile exchanges and home location register/authentication center. The commercial field tests performed both in Taejon and Seoul have indicated that the CMS capacity is 10 to 15 times larger than that of AMPS. This paper overviews the development history, system characteristics, architecture and test results.  相似文献

The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is widely recognized as the modern digital mobile network architecture. Increasing market demands point toward the relevancy of securityrelated issues in communications. The security requirements of mobile communications for the mobile users include: (1) the authentication of the mobile user and Visitor Location Register/Home Location Register; (2) the data confidentiality between mobile station and Visitor Location Register, and the data confidentiality between Visitor Location Register and Visitor Location Register/Home Location Register (VLR/HLR); (3) the location privacy of mobile user. However, GSM does not provide enough security functions to meet these requirements. We propose three improved methods to enhance the security, to reduce the storage space, to eliminate the sensitive information stored in VLR, and consequently to improve the performance of the system. Proposed methods include an improved authentication protocol for the mobile station, a data confidentiality protocol, and a location privacy protocol. The merit of the proposed methods is to improve but not to alter the existing architecture of the system. Furthermore, this study also performs computational and capacity analyses to evaluate the original GSM system and proposed approaches on a comparative basis.  相似文献

In personal communication services (PCS), the complete location information and subscribers' profiles are kept in a database called the home location register (HLR). Another database, the visitor location register (VLR), is used to store partial location information. When a mobile user is called, the system queries the HLR to determine the location of the called party. Distributed databases have been introduced to improve the efficiency of querying the HLR. This paper presents an alternative means of constructing a distributed database. The proposed database design employs fixed pointers to link distributed data. Each database contains a portion of the system's information as well as several pointers. The pointers identify the location of real data, enabling the system to obtain the required information efficiently. The database of the proposed design is markedly smaller than the fully distributed databases since each database of the proposed design stores only partial information. Subscriber information is stored only in one database, thus allowing a single database, rather than multiple databases, to be updated. The single update presented herein notably reduces the signal traffic load. If the caller is in the registration area of some HLR, which holds the called party's information, the response time is significantly decreased since the transactions are served only by the local database. This phenomenon is referred to as the calling locality. The proposed method effectively shares the database and the network loading that originates from several databases' tracking mobile users in a PCS system. According to the results presented, this method is highly effective for systems with a heavy load and high calling locality. The single update feature of the proposed design reduces the traffic in the signaling link and the processing load of a database. However, the proposed method includes no fault tolerance and therein differs from the fully distributed design  相似文献

The mobility feature of mobile stations (MSs) imposes a large burden on network traffic control as a result of location management. Design issues of location management include MS registration (updating) and call setup (paging). Previous approaches introduced several network topologies for updating and paging procedures, but most of them focused on a single problem: either updating optimization or paging optimization. In this paper, we design and integrate two mechanisms, distributed temporary location caches (TLCs) and distributed home location registers (HLRs), to reduce database access delay and to decrease network signaling traffic in both updating and paging for low power, low tier micro cellular systems. By using TLCs, our approach can improve the performance of updating and paging in comparison with previous approaches. Experimental results based on our analytic model show that our location management procedures have lower HLR access rate, lower registration cost, and lower call setup cost than other approaches.  相似文献

It is envisaged that next generation wireless networks (NGWN) will be heterogeneous, consisting of multiple radio access technologies (RATs) coexisting in the same geographical area. In these heterogeneous wireless networks, mobile terminals of different capabilities (heterogeneous terminals) will be used by subscribers to access network services. We investigate the effect of using heterogeneous mobile terminals (e.g. single-mode, dual-mode, triple-mode, etc.) on call blocking and call dropping probabilities in cooperative heterogeneous wireless networks. We develop analytical models for heterogeneous mobile terminals and joint radio resource management in heterogeneous wireless networks. Using a two-class three-RAT heterogeneous wireless network as an example, the effect of using heterogeneous terminals in the network is evaluated. Results show the overall call blocking/dropping probability experienced by subscribers in heterogeneous wireless networks depends on the capabilities of mobile terminals used by the subscribers. In the worst case scenario, when all subscribers use single-mode mobile terminals, each subscriber is confined to a single RAT and consequently, joint radio resource management in heterogeneous wireless network has no improvement on new call blocking and handoff call dropping probabilities. However, in the best case scenario, when all subscribers use three-mode terminals, new class-1 call blocking probability decreases from 0.37 (for 100% single-mode terminals) to 0.05, at the arrival rate of 6 calls per minute. New class-2 call blocking probability also decreases from 0.8 to 0.52. Similarly, handoff class-1 call dropping probability decreases from 0.14 to 0.003, and handoff class-2 call dropping probability decreases from 0.44 to 0.09.  相似文献

The cache scheme has been proposed to reduce the location tracking overhead of a personal communications services (PCS) network. In the previous papers, we studied the cache scheme under the assumptions that the home location register (HLR) access time is constant and the portable residence times have an exponential distribution. This paper compares the cache scheme with a basic scheme (such as IS-41). We generalize the previous models by considering the queueing effect of the HLR (i.e., we model the HLR by an M/G/1 queue) and by considering an arbitrary distribution for the portable residence times. Our study shows that the cache scheme is likely to outperform the basic scheme when (1) the net traffic to the HLR in the basic scheme saturates and the hit ratio in the cache scheme is larger than zero, (2) the portable mobility is low with respect to the call arrival rate, and (3) the variance of the HLR service time distribution is large (for a fixed mean service time). We also indicate an intuitive result that the cache hit ratio is high for a high call arrival rate and low portable mobility. For a fixed mean portable residence time, we show that a higher cache hit ratio is expected for a portable residence distribution with larger variance  相似文献

In typical mobile communication systems, mobile station (MS) location information is updated when the MS crosses the location area boundary or the registration timer is expired. When a call attempt occurs, sequential paging rather than blanket paging is used to reduce the paging cost. We propose a new location update scheme in which to increase the paging accuracy, timer-based location update is performed within a location area. In this work, the optimum timer value of the area and timer-based location registration scheme with intelligent paging is derived. In case of a fixed location area, the optimum registration timer value depends on the speed and call arrival rate of the MS. If the speed or call arrival rate of the MS is high, location registration based on timer value should be performed frequently. Otherwise, location registration based on the crossing of location area is sufficient  相似文献
