Abstract

The synergistic effects of zinc oxide (ZnO) with intumescent flame retardant (IFR; based on phosphorus acid, melamine and pentaerythritol) in silicone rubber (SR) composites have been studied using limiting oxygen index, UL-94, cone calorimeter test and digital photographs. The results showed that 2·0 wt-% loading ZnO in the flame retardant SR composites could greatly reduce the peak values of heat release rate and smoke production rate, and form a compact char layer on the surface of the sample. Thus, a suitable amount of ZnO plays a synergistic effect with IFR in flame retardant SR composites system.  相似文献

Abstract

Flame retardant ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) composites were prepared based on different contents of hollow glass beads (HGBs) and aluminium hydroxide (ATH) in this paper, and the flame retardant properties were studied using limiting oxygen index, UL-94 test and cone calorimeter test respectively. The results showed that EVA-4 with 1·0 wt-%HGBs has the lowest heat release rate, total heat release and smoke production rate among all samples, and HGBs could promote to form a compact char layer on the surface of the sample. It indicates that there is an obvious synergistic flame retardant effect between HGBs and ATH in this composite.  相似文献

The effects of hydroxy silicone oil as a synergistic agent on the flame retardancy of intumescent flame retardant polypropylene composites (IFR-PP) were studied, and the IFR system mainly consisted of the ammonium polyphosphate (APP), melamine (MEL) and pentaerythritol (PER). The UL 94 rating, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), cone calorimeter (CONE) and digital photograph were used to evaluate the synergistic effects of hydroxy silicone oil (HSO). It has been found that the PP composite containing only APP, MEL and PER does not show good flame retardancy at 30% additive level. The cone calorimeter results show that the heat release rate, mass loss rate, mass, total heat release, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide of PP/APP/MEL/PER/HSO composites decrease in comparison with the PP/APP/MEL/PER composite. The digital photographs demonstrated that HSO could promote to form the homogenous and compact intumescent char layer. Thus, a suitable amount of HSO plays a synergistic effect in the flame retardancy.  相似文献

A novel flame‐retardant (SPDH) containing phosphorus was synthesized through the reaction of 10‐(2,5‐dihydroxyphenyl)‐9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide and synthesized intermediate product 3,9‐dichloro‐2,4,8,10‐tetraoxa‐3,9‐diphosphaspiro[5.5] undecane‐3,9‐dioxide, which was used for optimizing the flame retardancy of ethylene‐vinyl acetate copolymer (EVM) rubber/aluminum hydroxide (ATH) composites. The microstructure of SPDH was characterized and determined by Fourier transform infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that SPDH had good charring effect at high temperature (600°C). The flame retardancy of the optimized EVM/ATH composites by SPDH was investigated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimeter, and UL‐94 vertical burning tests. A higher LOI value (29.8%) and better UL‐94 rating (V‐0) can be achieved for the optimized EVM/ATH composite (EVM‐7) than EVM/ATH composite without SPDH (EVM‐3) with the total loading of additives. The heat release rate decreased and residual mass increased gradually as the loading of SPDH increased for the optimized EVM/ATH composites. 以甲基膦酸二甲酯(DMMP)、10-(2,5-二羟基甲苯)-10-氢-9-氧杂-10-磷酰杂菲-10-氧化物(DOPO-HQ)、可膨胀石墨(EG)和氢氧化铝(ATH)构建了四元阻燃复合体系,并通过热失重分析仪(TG)、锥形量热仪、极限氧指数分析仪等研究了其在硬质聚氨酯泡沫(RPUF)中的阻燃行为。结果表明,四元阻燃体系能够在较宽温度区间内发挥逐级释放的协同阻燃效应;DOPO-HQ能够与EG/DMMP/ATH三元阻燃体系形成加合阻燃效应,使得RPUF复合材料的极限氧指数(LOI)提升至30.8%;与采用EG/DMMP/ATH三元阻燃体系的RPUF复合材料相比,采用加入DOPO-HQ的四元阻燃体系的RPUF复合材料的热释放速率峰值(PHRR)、总热释放量(THR)、总烟释放量(TSR)均有所下降,残炭率得到了进一步提升,说明DOPO-HQ与EG/DMMP/ATH所构建的四元阻燃体系在成炭性方面具有协同效应;此外,通过扫描电子显微镜(SEM)对残炭进行表征,验证了四元阻燃体系在凝聚相中能够发挥优异的成炭阻隔效应,并能够在燃烧的初期、中期和末期发挥逐级释放阻燃效应。  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the fire retardancy properties of glass fibre–reinforced polyester (GFRP) composites with bisphenol‐A vinylester and isophthalic polyester as matrices and low electrical conductivity E‐glass fibres as reinforcement. The fire protection systems tested were alumina trihydrate (ATH), decabromodiphenyl ether (DBDE), and antimony trioxide (Sb2O3). A mass loss cone calorimeter was used to obtain the properties of heat release rate (HRR), peak HRR, total heat released, total mass loss, time to ignition, and time of combustion. Moreover, limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL‐94, and glow‐wire tests were also performed. The fire tests were carried out in order to investigate if the combination of ATH and DBDE could have “additive,” “antagonistic,” or “synergistic” effects on the flame retardant properties of the GFRP studied in this work. In addition, the influence of the ATH content variation on flame retardant properties was also evaluated. The results indicate that the sole addition of ATH at 47.7 phr could lead to the complete inhibition of the composites ignition, while the materials containing DBDE exhibit ignition and flame propagation in the cone calorimeter test.  相似文献

A series of novel aluminum phosphate ester (APEA) flame retardants were synthesized by the salification of cyclic phosphate ester acid (PEA) with different mass ratios of aluminum hydroxide (ATH) and thoroughly characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The PEA and APEAs were thoroughly mixed with melamine formaldehyde resin to produce five kinds of transparent fire-retardant coatings. The synergistic effects of ATH on the thermal stability, flame retardancy, and smoke suppression properties of the coatings were investigated by different analytical instruments. The results show that the incorporation of ATH greatly decreases the weight loss, char index, flame spread rating, heat release rate, total heat release, smoke production rate, total smoke release and specific optical density in the coatings applied to plywood boards, which is ascribed to a more compact and intumescent char formed during burning, as determined from digital photographs and scanning electron microscopy images. The synergistic effects of ATH in the coatings depend on the content of ATH, and an excessive amount of ATH diminishes the synergistic effects on the flame retardancy and smoke suppression properties based on fire protection tests and cone calorimeter test. Thermo-gravimetric analysis reveals that the thermal stability and char-forming ability of the coatings gradually improve with increasing loading of ATH. FTIR analysis demonstrates that the incorporation of ATH forms a more phosphorus-rich crosslinked char and aromatic char during burning, thus effectively reducing the mass loss, heat release, and smoke production and exhibiting excellent synergistic flame retardant and smoke suppression effects in the coatings.  相似文献

A novel flame‐retardant poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composite foam was prepared successfully through thermal processing, which was filled with high content of flame retardant, based on aluminum hydroxide (ATH) and aluminum phosphinate (AlPi) and using water as plasticizer and blowing agent. The flame‐retardant property and mechanism of the prepared foam matrix were studied by vertical burning test, limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimeter, scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The experimental results showed that the PVA/ATH/AlPi (1/1.2/0.05) composite achieved LOI value of 41% and UL94 V‐0 (3.2 mm) rate. The addition of ATH and AlPi into PVA matrix significantly decreased flammability of the composites, because a more compact and continuous char layer of the PVA/ATH/AlPi composite could be formed, due to the involvement of AlPi in the char‐forming reaction. Compared with the pure PVA sample, the peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) of PVA/ATH/AlPi (1/1.2/0.05) composite were reduced by 76.5% and 58.2%, respectively. Built upon this PVA‐based foam matrix with good flame retardancy, the flame‐retardant PVA‐based foam was successfully prepared through thermal extrusion. A synergistic effect on flame retardancy was found when hydroxy silicone oil (HSO) was incorporated into ethylene vinyl acetate/aluminum hydroxide (EVA/ATH) composite. The fire performance of EVA and EVA composites was studied by using limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL 94, and cone calorimeter test (CCT). Compared with the EVA/ATH binary composite, the LOI values of the EVA/ATH/HSO ternary composites at the same additive loading are all decreased. The CCT data indicated that the addition of HSO in EVA/ATH system not only reduces the heat release rate, but also prolonged the ignition time of the composite. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that ATH accelerated the loss of acetic acid, but hydroxy silicone oil assisted to reduce ATH's accelerating effect.  相似文献

通过溶胶?凝胶法制备了硅凝胶微胶囊化聚磷酸铵(MAPP),并通过红外光谱仪(FTIR)、热重分析仪(TG)对MAPP进行了表征;采用熔融共混技术将氢氧化铝(ATH)和MAPP加入到热塑性聚氨酯弹性体(TPU)中,制备出系列阻燃热塑性聚氨酯弹性体(TPU/FR)复合材料,并通过TG、微型量热计(MCC)研究了TPU/FR的热稳定性和燃烧行为。结果表明,在ATH与MAPP总含量为20 %(质量分数,下同)的情况下,相对于TPU/FR1(20 % ATH)复合材料,ATH与MAPP含量分别为5 %、15 %,10 %、10 %和15 %、5 %的TPU/FR复合材料在700 oC下的残炭量分别由16.7 %提高到29.7 %、25.1 %和20.9 %;热释放容量(HRC)分别从327.1 J/(g·K)降低到154.2、164.2和170.1 J/(g·K);对比TPU/FR2(20 % MAPP)复合材料,TPU/FR4(15 % ATH,5 % MAPP)炭渣的致密性和石墨化程度显著提高,表明ATH与MAPP复合具有显著的阻燃协同作用。  相似文献

The flammability and synergistic flame‐retardant effects of fumed silica (SiO2) in ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/aluminum hydroxide (ATH) blends were studied with limiting oxygen index measurements, UL 94 testing, cone calorimeter testing (CONE), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results show that the addition of a given amount of fumed SiO2 can apparently improve UL 94 rating. The CONE data indicated that the addition of fumed SiO2 greatly reduced the heat release rate. The TGA data showed that this synergistic flame‐retardant mechanism of fumed SiO2 in the EVA/ATH materials was mainly due to the physical process. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Wheat straw (WS) has numerous advantages compared with traditional bioadditives such as starch and lignin. So in this work, based on WS and silica microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate, flame retardant polypropylene/wheat straw (WSP) composites were prepared by melted blend method. Flame retardant and thermal properties of WSP composites have been investigated. The results of cone calorimeter show that peaks of heat release rate and total heat release of the flame retardant WSP composite decrease substantially compared with those of pure polypropylene. The peak of heat release rate value of the flame retardant WSP composite decreases from 1290.5 to 247.9 kW/m2, and the total heat release value decreases from 119.4 to 46.3 MJ/m2. Meanwhile, thermal degradation and gas products of the flame retardant WSP composite were monitored by thermogravimetric analysis and thermogravimetric analysis‐infrared spectrometry. The result of thermal analysis shows that the flame retardant WSP composite has a high thermal stability and has a 30.0 wt% residual char at 600°C. From this work, we hope to provide a method to prepare flame retardant polymer composites with a biodegradable natural material‐WS.  相似文献

采用熔融法制备包括可膨胀石墨(EG)、红磷(RP)、氢氧化铝(ATH)体系的阻燃高抗冲聚苯乙烯(HIPS)复合材料;采用锥形量热仪、氧指数、垂直燃烧法研究其对HIPS的阻燃性能的影响。结果表明:HIPS/EG/RP-ATH复合材料的热释放速率及其峰值。质量损失速率等燃烧性能参数继续降低,且火灾性能指数和氧指数大幅提高,UL 94垂直燃烧可以达到FV-0级;结合复合材料燃烧残余物形态,发现EG和RP之间具有明显的协同阻燃效应。  相似文献

The composites based on ethylene–propylene–diene monomer rubber (EPDM) with aluminum hydroxide (ATH), nanoclay, vulcanizing agent, and curing accelerator were prepared by conventional mill compounding method. The thermal stability and the flame retardant properties were evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL‐94 test, cone calorimeter, and smoke density chamber tests. The results indicated that the substitution of the nanoclay in the EPDM/ATH composites increased the 50% weight loss temperature and the LOI value, and reduced the peak heat release rate (pk‐HRR), the extinction coefficient (Ext Coef), the maximal smoke density (Dm), and the whole smoke at the first 4 min (VOF4) of the test specimens. The synergistic flame retardancy of the nanoclay with ATH in EPDM matrix could imply that the formation of a reinforced char/nanoclay layer during combustion prevents the diffusion of the oxygen and the decomposed organic volatiles in the flame. The mechanical properties of the composites have been increased by replacing more of the nanoclays into the EPDM/ATH blends. The best loading of the nanoclay in EPDM/ATH composites is 3 wt %, which keeps LOI in the enough value, the V‐0 rating in the UL‐94 test, and the improved mechanical properties with better dispersion and exfoliation of the nanoclays shown by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 采用动态熔融法分别制备高冲击强度聚苯乙烯/有机蒙脱土(HIPS/OMMT)复合材料和高冲击强度聚苯乙烯/钠基蒙脱土(HIPS/Na+-MMT)复合材料,利用锥形量热仪测试复合材料的阻燃性能,结果表明:HIPS/OMMT复合材料的热释放速率(HRR)、生烟速率(SPR)、质量损失速率(MLR)等燃烧性能参数均明显降低,表现出较好的阻燃性和抑烟性;Na+-MMT阻燃HIPS与OMMT阻燃HIPS复合材料比较,HIPS/OMMT复合材料的阻燃性明显优于HIPS/Na+-MMT。通过研究复合材料的阻燃性能,结合燃烧残余物的微观结构和宏观形貌分析,探讨了复合材料的阻燃机理。  相似文献

研究了有机蛭石(O–VMT)和二乙基次磷酸铝(ADP)对玻纤(GF)增强聚对苯二甲酸丁二酯(PBT)(PBT/GF)的阻燃作用,对复合材料的极限氧指数(LOI)和UL94阻燃等级进行测试,并用热失重和锥形量热仪进行分析。结果发现,ADP可以很好阻燃PBT/GF,加入19%的ADP,复合材料的LOI为33.5%,阻燃达到UL941.6 mm V–0级,相对PBT/GF,其点燃时间、火灾性能指数(FPI)有所提高,热释放速率峰值(PHRR)、平均热释放速率(AHRR)、总热释放量(THR)及总生烟量(TSR)有所降低。同时加入15%的ADP和2%的O–VMT,复合材料的PHRR,AHRR,THR和TSR相对单独添加17%ADP的材料,分别降低12.8%,9.5%,4.5%和15.9%,FPI提高15.4%,LOI和UL94阻燃也对应提高,O–VMT和ADP在PBT/GF中有协同阻燃作用。  相似文献

The halogen‐free flame‐retardant polystyrene (PS) composites containing expandable graphite (EG) and melamine phosphate (MP) were prepared successfully, and the thermal degradation behavior and fire performance were investigated by various measurements. The experimental results show that EG and MP have a synergistic effect on flame‐retardant PS, which can catalyze the char formation from PS. PS/MP/EG(1:2) composite achieves limited oxygen index value of 28.0% and UL‐94V‐0 (1.6 mm) rate. The mass retention at high temperature (800 °C) under air atmosphere of PS composites have a large increase by the introduction of EG and MP. Microscale combustion calorimeter (MCC) and cone calorimetric analysis indicate that the heat release rate and total heat release of PS/MP/EG(1:2) composite are reduced significantly, because the formed thick char layer has a notable barrier property. The study on the char residue of PS/MP/EG(1:2) composite by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirms the formation of the stable structures containing P? O? C. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of PS composites were also investigated; compared with neat PS, the addition of flame retardants leads to the decrease of tensile strength and flexural strength, but the impact strength of PS/MP/EG(1:2) has increased by 44.2%. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (VAPP) with poly(vinyl alcohol)- melamine-formaldehyde (VMF) shell was introduced in ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) to improve its flame retardancy. Due to the presence of VMF shell, VAPP shows better compatibility, flame retardancy and water resistance compared with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) in EVA. The flammability of EVA and its flame-retarded composites was studied by LOI, UL-94 and cone calorimeter. The composite containing 40 wt% VAPP can pass V-0 in UL-94 test, and hot water treatment shows few effects on its LOI value and UL-94 rating. The cone results indicated that the use of VAPP in EVA can significantly decrease heat release rate and total heat release compared with APP. To understand the mechanism of action of VAPP, dynamic FTIR experiments were carried out on EVA and EVA/VAPP composites. Based on above studies, the flame retardant mechanism of VAPP in EVA composite is discussed.  相似文献

将氢氧化铝(ATH)作为阻燃剂与聚乳酸(PLA)、竹粉(BF)共混,得到PLA/BF/ATH阻燃复合材料,并对该复合材料的性能进行了测试与表征。结果表明:随着ATH用量的增加,PLA/BF/ATH阻燃复合材料的力学性能有所降低,但复合材料的热稳定性和残炭率相对提高,而且ATH的引入对复合材料燃烧过程中热量和烟气的释放产生了一定的抑制作用;另外,当ATH用量为25 phr时,复合材料具有最佳综合性能。  相似文献
