Experimental Study of Coexistence Issues Between IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.15.4 Wireless Networks

Coexistence issues between IEEE 802.11b wireless communication networks and IEEE 802.15.4 wireless sensor networks, operating over the 2.4-GHz industrial, scientific, and medical band, are assessed. In particular, meaningful experiments that are performed through a suitable testbed are presented. Such experiments involve both the physical layer, through measurements of channel power and the SIR, and the network/transport layer, by means of packet loss ratio estimations. Different configurations of the testbed are considered; major characteristics, such as the packet rate, the packet size, the SIR, and the network topology, are varied. The purpose of this paper is to gain helpful information and hints to efficiently face coexistence problems between such networks and optimize their setup in some real-life conditions. Details concerning the testbed, the measurement procedure, and the performed experiments are provided.      

Specification for common IEEE styles

Our premise is that a researcher should be able to use his or her time doing research, and not fighting with a text formatter. Modern formatters have macro capability. If the proper macros are written, the text formatting for all IEEE publications may be accomplished automatically. We propose that proponents of various text-processing systems write macro packages for their own systems. The scientific community would benefit greatly. One example is provided for users of the LATEX2_ϵ system. It is available at http://www-isl.stanford.edu/ieee/ or at the ftp site ftp://isl.stanford.edu/pub/ieee/. A similar macro package is being developed for users of Microsoft Word, and can be found at the world-wide-web addresses given in the Conclusion     

Special Section on the 2007 IEEE AUTOTESTCON

The nine papers in this special section were originally presented at the 2007 IEEE AUTOTESTCON, held in Baltimore, MD. The papers are organized into three general categories: test and diagnosis technology; prognostics and health management; and synthetic instrumentation for automatic test.
