AI is supposed to be a scientific research program for developing and analyzing computer-based systems that mimic natural psychological processes. I argue that this is a mere fiction, a convenient myth. In reality, AI is a technology for reorganizing the relations of production in workplaces, and specifically for increasing management control. The appeal of the AI myth thus serves as ideological justification for increasing managerial domination. By focusing on the AI myth, critics of AI are diverting themselves from the very important task of preventing this increasingly dangerous threat to deskill and dehumanize large sectors of the workforce. Personal history Edward S. Reed was educated in Philosophy of Science at Boston University, and in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. He directed the project in Cognition and Action at the University of Minnesota, Center for Research in Human Learning, 1980–1982. At present he is an assistant Professor of Philosophy at Drexel University, and a Research Consultant for the Drucker Brain Injury Center of Moss Rehabilitation Hospital, both in Philadelphia. This study investigated the relationships between workers’ compliance with health and safety (H&S) routines and instructions adopted in the company (dependent variable) and psychological demands, decision authority, social support, management support, unionization and H&S management system (independent variables). A cross-sectional questionnaire study was performed among 1051 workers and the managers of 102 small- and medium-sized motor vehicle repair garages. Multilevel modeling was performed to account for the hierarchical structure of the data. At the worker level, high compliance with H&S routines correlated significantly with both social support and H&S-related management support. At the garage level, mean management support and a well-developed H&S management system correlated significantly with high workers’ compliance. Changing both the individual and contextual factors in the work environment may thus increase workers’ participation in H&S activities.  相似文献

Muscle fatigue is a significant cause of musculoskeletal injury and can easily induce unsafe behaviour. Push-type work is a common type of physical work, and if not designed appropriately, may lead to muscle fatigue. Previous studies on muscle fatigue mainly focus on investigating continuous force exertion, and in most of them, a constant muscle force is assumed, thereby ignoring the fluctuations present in exertion. In this study, bolt hole drilling was chosen to represent typical push-type work, and the muscle fatigue from this work was examined. The experimental system designed in this study monitored the muscle force in real time. In the experiments, different thrust angles (15°, 45°, and 75°), different relative force values (20% MVC, 40% MVC, and 60% MVC; MVC: maximum voluntary contraction) and different working time intervals (0 s, 30 s, 60 s, and 90 s) were considered. The results demonstrate that there is a significant positive correlation between the rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and muscle force attenuation (r = 0.786, p = 0). The cubic regression model (Y = − 0.00071x3 − 0.024x2 − 0.334x + 1.146, R2 = 0.639) fits the data most closely. Therefore, force attenuation can be used as a real-time indicator of muscle fatigue. In addition, the relative force value and thrust angle have a significant impact on the RPE score, whereas the working time interval has no major effect on it. This study provides a new method for evaluating muscle fatigue and a basis for the design of push-type work to reduce fatigue-induced accidents and musculoskeletal injuries.  相似文献

1 引言例外常常是指数据集中远远偏离其它对象的那些小比例对象,在大多数研究中作为噪声被遗弃。但是在一些应用中,例外的检测能为我们提供比较重要的信息,使我们发现一些真实而又出乎预料的知识,具有很高的实用价值,如文挖掘了时序数据中的例外,从而在存储容量相同的情况下,可以获得对原始序列更精确的表示。目前例外挖掘方法可以广义地分为3类:基于分布的方法、基于深度的方法及基于距离的方法。基于深度的方法避免了基于分布的方法中的分布适应性问题,扩展了例外挖掘的应用,但已有的基于深度的方法只有在数据维数k≤2时,效果才被人们接受。基于距离的方法不受数据维数的限制,超越了数据空间,它仅仅依赖于米制距离函数的距离值计算。  相似文献
