Among other conceptualizations, smart cities have been defined as functional urban areas articulated by the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and modern infrastructures to face city problems in efficient and sustainable ways. Within ICT, recommender systems are strong tools that filter relevant information, upgrading the relations between stakeholders in the polity and civil society, and assisting in decision making tasks through technological platforms. There are scientific articles covering recommendation approaches in smart city applications, and there are recommendation solutions implemented in real world smart city initiatives. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is not a comprehensive review of the state of the art on recommender systems for smart cities. For this reason, in this paper we present a taxonomy of smart city features, dimensions, actions and goals, and, according to these variables, we survey the existing literature on recommender systems. As a result of our survey, we do not only identify and analyze main research trends, but also show current opportunities and challenges where personalized recommendations could be exploited as solutions for citizens, firms and public administrations.  相似文献

This special issue discusses Dutch research on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education. In this introduction, four broad research lines are distinguished: Policy-oriented research, research on learning technologies, research on computer-based instructional design tools, and research on the pedagogical use of ICT. The focus of this special issue is on the last type of research. The main research questions, findings and conclusions of the six contributions are discussed. It is concluded that the most important directions for future research deal with the added value of ICT for information problem solving in resource-based learning, for collaboration using external representations and tools that provoke critical discussion and reflection, and for simulation in learning environments for competence based learning and discovery learning.  相似文献

Cloud Computing can be seen as one of the latest major evolution in computing offering unlimited possibility to use ICT in various domains: business, smart cities, medicine, environmental computing, mobile systems, design and implementation of cyber-infrastructures. The recent expansion of Cloud Systems has led to adapting resource management solutions for large number of wide distributed and heterogeneous datacenters. The adaptive methods used in this context are oriented on: self-stabilizing, self-organizing and autonomic systems; dynamic, adaptive and machine learning based distributed algorithms; fault tolerance, reliability, availability of distributed systems. The pay-per-use economic model of Cloud Computing comes with a new challenge: maximizing the profit for service providers, minimizing the total cost for customers and being friendly with the environment. This special issue presents advances in virtual machine assignment and placement, multi-objective and multi-constraints job scheduling, resource management in federated Clouds and in heterogeneous environments, dynamic topology for data distribution, workflow performance improvement, energy efficiency techniques and assurance of Service Level Agreements.  相似文献

The rapid booming of advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) has promoted an encouraging smart, connected product (SCP) market that further triggers the development of manufacturing towards the servitization proposition, viz. smart product-service systems (PSS). Smart PSS aims to provide a solution (product-service) with high satisfaction and less environmental influence by leveraging SCP as the media tool. Its solution design should not just focus on the physical world nor only be enabled by the cloud side, while the cyber world and the edge side must be included in the Industry 4.0. However, only few current researches investigate about the smart PSS, let alone an overall cyber-physical and edge-cloud discussion to support its solution design. In order to fill this gap, this work proposes an edge-cloud orchestration driven solution design based on the cyber-physical systems (CPS) and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). To make our ideas concrete, a real-life milling process was conducted as an illustrative example. It is hoped that this study can furnish industrial enterprises with meaningful sights in the process of servitization and value co-creation.  相似文献

A smart Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enables a synchronized interplay of different key factors, aligning infrastructures, consumers, and governmental policy-making needs. In the harbor’s logistics context, smart ICT has been driving a multi-year wave of growth. Although there is a standalone value in the technological innovation of a task, the impact of a new smart technology is unknown without quantitative analysis methods on the end-to-end process. In this paper, we first present a review of the smart ICT for marine container terminals, and then we propose to evaluate the impact of such smart ICT via business process model and notation (BPMN) modeling and simulation. The proposed approach is discussed in a real-world modeling and simulation analysis, made on a pilot terminal of the Port of Leghorn (Italy).  相似文献

Business networking relies on application-specific quantity and quality of information in order to support social infrastructures in, e.g., energy allocation coordinated by smart grids, healthcare services with electronic health records, traffic management with personal sensors, RFID in retail and logistics, or integration of individuals’ social network information into good, services, and rescue operations. Due to the increasing reliance of networking applications on sharing ICT services, dependencies threaten privacy, security, and reliability of information and, thus, innovative business applications in smart societies. Resilience is becoming a new security approach, since it takes dependencies into account and aims at achieving equilibriums in case of opposite requirements. This special issue on 'Security and Privacy in Business Networking' contributes to the journal 'Electronic Markets' by introducing a different view on achieving acceptable secure business networking applications in spite of threats due to covert channels. This view is on adapting resilience to enforcement of IT security in business networking applications. Our analysis shows that privacy is an evidence to measure and improve trustworthy relationships and reliable interactions between participants of business processes and their IT systems. The articles of this special issue, which have been accepted after a double-blind peer review, contribute to this view on interdisciplinary security engineering in regard to the stages of security and privacy requirements analysis, enforcement of resulting security requirements for an information exchange, testing with a privacy-preserving detection of policy violations, and knowledge management for the purpose of keeping business processes resilient.  相似文献

Digital interactions among businesses and consumers through powerful information systems and omnipresent connected devices establish today’s networked society. In this light, Service Science continues to take root as a research discipline that focuses on the integration of (digital) resources by service providers and service customers for value co-creation in service systems. Rapid advances in information technology allow for designing novel information systems that enable entirely new configurations of service systems. In turn, Service Science also leaves its mark on the design, adoption, and use of information systems and technology. With this special issue, we compile a set of timely papers that investigate selected facets of the complex interplay between information technology, information systems, and Service Science to design innovative IT artifacts for smart service. This editorial opens this special issue by elaborating on our understanding of smart service.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A thriving information and communication technology (ICT) economy is an aspiration for developing countries. This research identifies the factors that can motivate or inhibit ICT opportunities in a developing country to grow a sustainable economy. We build an ICT4D decision framework that provides a three-dimensional view based on (1) key factors (e.g. infrastructure, policies), (2) the ICT supply chain, and (3) stakeholders (e.g. industry, government, academia). The framework is applied to the case of Palestine. We use secondary and primary data to understand how both controllable and non-controllable country characteristics have contributed to or inhibited the growth and development of an ICT sector. Results from extensive secondary data sources demonstrate the usability of the framework to analyze the current setting of the ICT sector, in addition to help investigate a range of possible opportunities for action. Then, via a targeted set of interviews with academic, industrial, and governmental sources who are experts in the Palestinian ICT arena, we perform an exploratory study that focuses on key controls and impacts for future development of the ICT economy. The outcomes of this research have the ability to frame and inform economic development decisions that could define the future of the Palestinian state.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to bring forth the issue of integrating the services provided by intelligent artifacts in Ambient Intelligence applications. Specifically, we propose a Distributed Constraint Optimization procedure for achieving a functional integration of intelligent artifacts in a smart home. To this end, we employ Adopt-N , a state-of-the-art algorithm for solving Distributed Constraint Optimization Problems (DCOP). This article attempts to state the smart home coordination problem in general terms, and provides the details of a DCOP-based approach by describing a case study taken from the RoboCare project. More specifically, we show how (1) DCOP is a convenient metaphor for casting smart home coordination problems, and (2) the specific features which distinguish Adopt-N from other algorithms for DCOP represent a strong asset in the smart home domain.

The rigorous application of design science in information and communications technology (ICT) research is growing rapidly and producing exciting results. The five papers published in this special issue reflect some of the most recent ideas and research projects in ICT design science research (DSR). This introduction begins with concise summaries of the published papers. We then reflect on three key design science issues, using the published papers to illustrate our views. The three issues are: (1) the nature of the artifacts/problems studied in DSR in ICT disciplines; (2) the research approaches that are used; and (3) the nature of the research contributions that are made. We explain why we believe that these issues are interdependent and why thinking about these three issues as a whole can support an improved understanding of the goals and processes of design science research.  相似文献

Nowadays, industrial companies are facing ever-increasing challenges to generate new value-in-use and maintain their high competitiveness in the market. With the rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), IT is embedded in the products themselves, i.e. smart, connected products (SCPs) to generate values. Hence, an emerging value proposition paradigm, smart product-service system (Smart PSS) was introduced, by leveraging both SCPs and its generated services as a solution bundle to meet individual customer needs. Unlike other types of PSS, in Smart PSS, massive user-generated data and product-sensed data are collected during the usage phase, where potential requirements can be elicited readily in a value co-creation manner with context-awareness. Nevertheless, only few scholars discuss any systematic manner to support requirement elicitation in such context. To fill the gaps, this research proposes a novel data-driven graph-based requirement elicitation framework in the Smart PSS, so as to assist engineering/designers make better design improvement or new design concept generation in a closed-loop manner. It underlines the informatics-based approach by integrating heterogeneous data sources into a holistic consideration. Moreover, by leveraging graph-based approach, context-product-service information can be linked by the edges and nodes in-between them to derive reliable requirements. To validate its feasibility and advantages, an illustrative example of smart bicycle design improvement is further adopted. As an explorative study, it is hoped that this work provides useful insights for the requirement elicitation process in today’s smart connected environment.  相似文献

The smart grid (SG) integrates the power grid and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with the aim of achieving more reliable and safe power transmission and distribution to the customers. Integrating the power grid with the ICT exposes the SG to systems security threats and vulnerabilities that could be compromised by malicious users and attackers. This paper presents a SG systems threats analysis and integrated SG Systems Security Threat Model (SSTM). The reference architecture of the SG, with its components and communication interfaces used to exchange the energy-related information, is integrated with the results of SG systems security threat analysis to produce a comprehensive, integrated SG SSTM. The SG SSTM in this paper helps better depict and understand the vulnerabilities exploited by attackers to compromise the components and communication links of the SG. The SG SSTM provides a reference of the systems security threats for industrial security practitioners, and can be used for design and implementation of SG systems security controls and countermeasures.  相似文献
