An experimental study has been carried out on the heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop characteristics in presence of twisted tape inserts, during flow boiling of R-134a, inside a horizontal evaporator. The test-evaporator was an electrically heated 1260 mm long copper tube with 7.5 mm inside diameter. The experiments were performed for plain flow and four tubes with twisted tapes of 6, 9, 12 and 15 twist ratios and four refrigerant mass velocities of 54, 85, 114 and 136 kg/s m2 for each tape. It has been found that the twisted tape inserts enhance the heat transfer coefficient on relatively higher pressure drop penalty, in comparison to that for the plain flow.  相似文献

New enhanced boiling tubes from Wolverine Tube Inc. (Turbo-B5) and Wieland-Werke AG (Gewa-B5) were investigated using R-134a and R-236fa as test fluids. The tests were done at saturation temperatures of 5 and 15 °C, mass flow rates from 4 to 35 kg m−2 s−1 and heat fluxes from 15 to 70 kW m−2. A new prediction method based on a theoretical analysis of thin film evaporation was used to propose a new correlating parameter. A large new database of local heat transfer coefficients was obtained and utilized to generate an improved prediction method for bundle boiling and the onset of dryout. Onset of dryout and the simultaneous reduction in heat transfer performance occurred at very high vapour quality on these enhanced tubes in convective bundle boiling. Furthermore, a direct comparison was made between the tubes operating in falling film and convective bundle boiling modes.  相似文献

Convective boiling heat transfer experiments were performed in horizontal minichannels with binary mixture refrigerant, R-410A. The test section is made of stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm and with lengths of 1500 mm and 3000 mm, respectively, and is uniformly heated by applying electric current directly to the tubes. Local heat transfer coefficients were obtained for a heat flux range of 10–30 kW m−2, a mass flux range of 300–600 kg m−2 s−1, and quality ranges of up to 1.0. The experimental results were mapped on Wang et al.'s (C.C. Wang, C.S. Chiang, D.C. Lu, Visual observation of two-phase flow pattern of R-22, R-134a, and R-407C in a 6.5-mm smooth tube, Experimental, Thermal and Fluid Science 15 (1997) 395–405) and Wojtan et al.'s (L. Wojtan, T. Ursenbacher, J.R. Thome, Investigation of flow boiling in horizontal tubes: part I – a new diabatic two-phase flow pattern map, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer 48 (2005) 2955–2969) flow pattern maps to observe the flow regimes. Laminar flow appears in flow with minichannels. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for R-410A was developed with 11.20% mean deviation; it showed a good agreement between the measured data and the calculated heat transfer coefficients.  相似文献

This article reports the condensing flow heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop results of propane (R290) flowing through a square section horizontal multiport mini-channel tube made of aluminium having an internal diameter of 1.16 mm and a condensing length of 259 mm. Pressure drop and two phase flow experiments were performed at saturation temperatures of 30, 40 and 50 °C. Heat flux was varied from 15.76 to 32.25 kWm−2 and mass velocity varied from 175 to 350 kg m−2 s−1. The results show that the two-phase friction pressure gradient increases with the increase of mass velocity and vapour quality and with the decrease of saturation temperature. The heat transfer coefficients showed to increase with increases of vapour quality and mass velocity while increases of saturation temperature were observed to reduce heat transfer coefficient. The two phase frictional pressure drop correlations of Sun and Mishima and Agarwal and Garimella, and the two-phase flow heat transfer correlations of Koyama et al. and Wang et al. predicted well the experimental results.  相似文献

Condensation heat transfer and pressure drop of R170 were studied experimentally in a horizontal tube with inner diameter of 4 mm. The tests were conducted at saturation pressures from 1 MPa to 2.5 MPa, mass fluxes from 100 kg (m2∙s)−1 to 250 kg (m2∙s)−1 and average heat fluxes from 55.3 kW m−2 to 96.3 kW m−2 over the entire vapor quality range. The effects of vapor quality, mass flux and saturation pressure on condensation heat transfer and pressure drop were examined and analyzed. The experimental data were compared with various well-known correlations of condensation heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. The comparison results showed that Koyama et al. correlation agreed with the experimental heat transfer coefficient with a mean absolute relative deviation less than 25%, and the Yan and Lin correlation can accurately predict the experimental pressure drop with a mean absolute relative deviation less than 18%.  相似文献

The flow boiling heat transfer coefficient of the low-GWP (global warming potential) refrigerant HFO-1234yf inside a smooth small-diameter horizontal tube (inner diameter: 2 mm) was experimentally investigated. The local heat transfer coefficient was measured at heat fluxes of 6-24 kW m−2, mass fluxes of 100-400 kg m−2 s−1, an evaporating temperature of 288.15 K, and an inlet vapor quality of 0-0.25. The results show that the effect of heat flux on the heat transfer was large at low vapor quality, while the effect of mass flux was large at high vapor quality. The heat transfer coefficient of HFO-1234yf was almost the same as that of R-134a. The heat transfer coefficients calculated based on correlations with Saitoh et al. agreed well with the measured values compared to other correlations. The measured pressure drop agreed well with that predicted by the Lockhart-Martinelli correlation.  相似文献

In this study, nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of HFO1234yf HFC134a are measured on a flat plain, Turbo-B, Turbo-C, and Thermoexcel-E surfaces. All data are taken at the liquid pool temperature of 7 °C on small flat horizontal square copper plates (9.53 mm × 9.53 mm) at heat fluxes from 10 kW m−2 to 200 kW m−2 with an interval of 10 kW m−2. Test results show that nucleate boiling HTCs of HFO1234yf on all four surfaces are similar to those of HFC134a at all heat fluxes tested in this study. At heat fluxes below 150 kW m−2, Thermoexcel-E surface shows the highest heat transfer performance and hence is the best surface for the manufacture of the evaporators in refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment. On the other hand, at high heat fluxes above 150 kW m−2, Turbo-B and Turbo-C show better heat transfer performance than Thermoexcel-E and hence are good for electronic cooling applications. Overall, HFO1234yf is a good long term candidate with excellent environmental properties to replace successfully HFC134a from the view point of pool boiling heat transfer. Hence HFO1234yf can be readily applied to the conventional evaporators designed for HFC134a.  相似文献

Flow boiling heat transfer coefficient, pressure drop, and flow pattern are investigated in the horizontal smooth tube of 6.1 mm inner diameter for CO2, R410A, and R22. Flow boiling heat transfer coefficients are measured at the constant wall temperature conditions, while pressure drop measurement and flow visualization are carried out at adiabatic conditions. This research is performed at evaporation temperatures of −15 and −30 °C, mass flux from 100 to 400 kg m−2 s−1, and heat flux from 5 to 15 kW m−2 for vapor qualities ranging from 0.1 to 0.8. The measured R410A heat transfer coefficients are compared to other published data. The comparison of heat transfer coefficients for CO2, R410A, and R22 is presented at various heat fluxes, mass fluxes, and evaporation temperatures. The difference of coefficients for each refrigerant is explained with the Gungor and Winterton [K.E. Gungor, R.H.S. Winterton, A general correlation for flow boiling in tubes and annuli, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 29 (1986) 351–358] correlation based on the thermophysical properties of refrigerants. The Wattelet et al. [J.P. Wattelet, J.C. Chato, B.R. Christoffersen, J.A. Gaibel, M. Ponchner, P.J. Kenny, R.L. Shimon, T.C. Villaneuva, N.L. Rhines, K.A. Sweeney, D.G. Allen, T.T. Heshberger, Heat Transfer Flow Regimes of Refrigerants in a Horizontal-tube Evaporator, ACRC TR-55, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1994], and Gungor and Winterton [K.E. Gungor, R.H.S. Winterton, A general correlation for flow boiling in tubes and annuli, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 29 (1986) 351–358] correlations give the best agreement with the measured heat transfer coefficients for CO2 and R410A. Pressure drop for CO2, R410A, and R22 at various mass fluxes, evaporation temperatures and qualities is presented in this paper. The Müller-Steinhagen and Heck [H. Müller-Steinhagen, K. Heck, A simple friction pressure drop correlation for two-phase flow in pipes, Chem. Eng. Process. 20 (1986) 297–308], and Friedel [L. Friedel, Improved friction pressure correlations for horizontal and vertical two-phase pipe flow, in: The European Two-Phase Flow Group Meeting, Ispra, Italy, 1979 (paper E2)] correlation can predict most of the measured pressure drop within the range of ±30%. The relation between pressure drop and properties for each refrigerant is described by applying the Müller-Steinhagen and Heck correlation. The observed two-phase flow patterns for CO2 and R410A are presented and compared with flow pattern maps. Most of the flow patterns can be determined by the Weisman et al. [J. Weisman, D. Duncan, J. Gibson, T. Crawford, Effect of fluid properties and pipe diameter on two-phase flow patterns in horizontal lines, Int. J. Multiphase Flow 5 (1979) 437–462] flow pattern map.  相似文献

An updated version of the Kattan–Thome–Favrat flow pattern based, flow boiling heat transfer model for horizontal tubes has been developed specifically for CO2. Because CO2 has a low critical temperature and hence high evaporating pressures compared to our previous database, it was found necessary to first correct the nucleate pool boiling correlation to better describe CO2 at high reduced pressures and secondly to include a boiling suppression factor on the nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficient to capture the trends in the flow boiling data. The new method predicts 73% of the CO2 database (404 data points) to within ±20% and 86% to within ±30% over the vapor quality range of 2–91%. The database covers five tube diameters from 0.79 to 10.06 mm, mass velocities from 85 to 1440 kg m−2 s−1, heat fluxes from 5 to 36 kW m−2, saturation temperatures from −25 °C to +25 °C and saturation pressures from 1.7 to 6.4 MPa (reduced pressures up to 0.87).  相似文献

A methodology was developed to characterise the heat exchangers' performance decrease due to two-phase flow maldistribution. It consists in measuring the spatial distribution of the local heat transfer coefficients with a rapid, non-invasive and fluid independent method. The method is based on the infrared (IR) thermography measurement of the temperature response to an oscillating heat flux. The amplitude of the measured temperatures is compared to the solution of an analytical model. The problem is solved iteratively to obtain the heat transfer coefficients. This method has been applied to evaluate the uneven phase distribution of an air–water mixture in a compact heat exchanger. The exchanger is composed of seven multiport flat tubes, a vertical downward header and horizontal channels. Experiments were performed for mass flux from 29 kg m−2 s−1 to 116 kg m−2 s−1 and for quality from 0.10 to 0.70.  相似文献

R1234ze(E) has a GWP<1 and a normal boiling temperature approximately 7.3 °C lower than that of R134a; it represents an interesting candidate for its replacement as working fluid in refrigerating machines. The refrigerant charge minimization in refrigerating and air conditioning equipment is a key issue for the new environmental challenges. Mini microfin tubes represent an optimal solution for both heat transfer enhancement and charge minimization tasks. This paper presents an experimental study of R1234ze(E) flow boiling inside a mini microfin tube with internal diameter at the fin tip of 3.4 mm. The experimental measurements were carried out at constant saturation temperature of 30 °C, by varying the refrigerant mass velocity between 190 kg m−2 s−1 and 940 kg m−2 s−1, the vapour quality from 0.2 to 0.99 at three different heat fluxes: 10, 25, and 50 kW m−2. The experimental results are then compared with those obtained for the more traditional R134a.  相似文献

Experiments were performed on the convective boiling heat transfer in horizontal minichannels with CO2. The test section is made of stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 1.5 and 3.0 mm and with lengths of 2000 and 3000 mm, respectively, and it is uniformly heated by applying an electric current directly to the tubes. Local heat transfer coefficients were obtained for a heat flux range of 20–40 kW m−2, a mass flux range of 200–600 kg m−2 s−1, saturation temperatures of 10, 0, −5, and −10 °C and quality ranges of up to 1.0. Nucleate boiling heat transfer contribution was predominant, especially at low quality region. The reduction of heat transfer coefficient occurred at a lower vapor quality with a rise of heat flux, mass flux and saturation temperature, and with a smaller inner tube diameter. The experimental heat transfer coefficient of CO2 is about three times higher than that of R-134a. Laminar flow appears in the minichannel flows. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation that is based on the superposition model for CO2 was developed with 8.41% mean deviation.  相似文献

Thermal characteristics of ammonia flow boiling in a microfin plate evaporator are experimentally investigated. Titanium microfin heat transfer surface is manufactured to enhance boiling heat transfer. Longitudinally- and laterally-microfined surfaces are used and those performances are compared. Heat transfer coefficient of microfin plate evaporator is also compared with that of plain-surface plate evaporator. The effects of mass flux, heat flux, channel height, and saturation pressure on heat transfer coefficient are presented and discussed. The experiments are conducted for the range of mass flux (5 and 7.5 kg m−2 s−1), heat flux (10, 15, and 20 kW m−2), channel height (1, 2, and 5 mm), and saturation pressure (0.7 and 0.9 MPa). Heat transfer coefficient is compared with that predicted by available empirical correlations proposed by other researchers. Modified correlations using Lockhart-Martinelli parameter to predict heat transfer coefficient are developed and they cover more than 87% of the experimental data.  相似文献

In this study, condensation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops of R-410A are obtained in flattened microfin tubes made from 7.0 mm O.D. round microfin tubes. The test range covers saturation temperature 45 °C, mass flux 100–400 kg m−2 s−1 and quality 0.2–0.8. Results show that the effect of aspect ratio on condensation heat transfer coefficient is dependent on the flow pattern. For annular flow, the heat transfer coefficient increases as aspect ratio increases. For stratified flow, however, the heat transfer coefficient decreases as aspect ratio increases. The pressure drop always increases as aspect ratio increases. Possible reasoning is provided based on the estimated flow pattern in flat microfin tubes. Comparison with existing round microfin tube correlations is made.

Experimental results of local heat transfer coefficients for the boiling of working fluids (solutions of R600a with mineral naphthenic oil ISO VG 15) in a smooth tube with a small diameter (5.4 mm) are presented. The experiments have been performed in the following ranges: for the inlet pressure from 65.7 kPa to 82.2 kPa, for the heat flux from 2500 to 3300 W m−2, and for the mass velocity of the working fluid from 11.90 to 15.99 kg m−2 s−1). The quantitative estimation in reduction of the heat transfer coefficient of the wetted surface in the evaporator at a high oil concentration in the mixture is examined. The influence of heat flux and mass velocities on the values of the local heat transfer coefficients is analyzed. The equation for the modelling of the local heat transfer coefficient for boiling of an isobutane/compressor oil solution flow in the tube is suggested.  相似文献

A generalized correlation for heat transfer with forced flow boiling of cryogenic liquids (nitrogen, hydrogen and neon) in tubes is presented. The correlation describes, with a ± 35% accuracy, all known experimental data for vertical and horizontal channels (without stratified regimes) in the pressure range 0.9 – 22 bar, mass flow rates from 20 to 2200 kg m?2 S?1, and heat fluxes from 400 to 210 000 W m?2. The boundary line between channels of a large and a small diameter has been established; a simple method of taking into account the higher heat transfer intensity in capillaries has been suggested.  相似文献

A general correlation for heat transfer during dispersed flow film boiling is presented which is applicable to horizontal and vertical tubes. It is based on the two-step model. It has been verified with data for 10 fluids in horizontal and vertical upflow. The fluids include refrigerants, hydrocarbons, cryogens, CO2 and water. The range of data included diameters from 0.98 to 25.0 mm, reduced pressures from 0.0046 to 0.99, mass flux from 3.7 to 5176 kg m−2 s−1, and qualities from 0.1 to 2.96. The 1481 data points from 38 sources are predicted with mean absolute deviation of 19.4%. Several other correlations are also compared to the same data and found to have much larger deviations.  相似文献

This study examined the two-phase flow boiling pressure drop and heat transfer for propane, as a long term alternative refrigerant, in horizontal minichannels. The pressure drop and local heat transfer coefficients were obtained for heat fluxes ranging from 5–20 kW m?2, mass fluxes ranging from 50–400 kg m?2 s?1, saturation temperatures of 10, 5 and 0 °C, and quality up to 1.0. The test section was made of stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm, and lengths of 1000 mm and 2000 mm, respectively. The present study showed the effect of mass flux, heat flux, inner tube diameter and saturation temperature on pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient. The experimental results were compared against several existing pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient prediction methods. Because the study on evaporation with propane in minichannels was limited, new correlations of pressure drop and boiling heat transfer coefficient were developed in this present study.  相似文献

A correlation is presented for predicting heat transfer coefficients during saturated boiling prior to critical heat flux in mini/micro channels as well as channels of conventional sizes in horizontal and vertical upward flow. The correlation is verified with a database that includes channels of various shapes (round, rectangle, triangle), fully or partially heated, horizontal and vertical downflow, diameters 0.38 to 27.1 mm, 30 fluids (water, CO2, ammonia, halocarbon refrigerants, organics, cryogens), reduced pressure 0.0046 to 0.787, and mass flux 15 to 2437 kg m−2s−1. The new correlation predicts the 4852 data points from 137 data sets from 81 sources with a mean absolute deviation of 18.6 %. Several other correlations were also compared with the same database; all had significantly higher deviations.  相似文献
