Commentary regarding what should be done about reprints especially when costs are a factor. Suggestions are provided by the author, such as, (a) Give or send reprints to those persons who will almost certainly be interested in the paper because of their general expertness, or their special activity, or their being mentioned in the paper. (b) Give or send also to those professional friends who will be interested in the paper simply because of its author, not because of its content. The lists for a and b can be broad or narrowly limited according as the author does or does not get pleasure from this kind of giving. This is his pleasure; let him decide how much he wishes to spend on it. Then (c) let the author meet requests by letter and postcard as they come in as long as he feels he can afford to. Argues that cutting out free reprints or reasonable charges on reprints drives scholars to mimeograph their papers for private distribution. The costs of mimeographing are hidden, but the waste to society and the scholarly community is fantastic. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) 相似文献

These minutes constitute the official record of actions of the Association taken during the year, both by the Council of Representatives and by the Board of Directors. The Special Meeting of Council was called in accordance with Article III, Section 2, of the APA Bylaws. The stated objects in the notice for the meeting were as follows: "to consider the phaseout and termination of federal support of training, research, and service; steps to meet this crisis; and the general nonresponsiveness of the APA toward urgent matters of this kind." Items included by vote of Council on the agenda of this meeting are reported as part of these annual proceedings. The roll of Representatives was called at each meeting, and more than a quorum answered to their names. Reference is made to various reports, some of which will be published elsewhere. Copies of these reports were distributed to Council members and are on file in the Central Office. As long as the supply lasts, extra copies of many of the reports are available from the Central Office. The Board of Directors met seven times during this Association year. All substantive actions of the Board were reported to Council and are included in these minutes. Further details of the Board's actions are to be found in the minutes of each meeting. As in previous years, these minutes are organized in topical rather than chronological order. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) 相似文献

Boring asked for comment on his "new ethic," and Morgan's letter (American Psychologist, 1956, 11, 206-208) merits it. Morgan is objecting to a mannerly abuse of courtesy which becomes a lack of consideration. At the risk of being thought a stuffed shirt, shouldn't the "education of eager, aggressive graduate students" include a bit of graciousness? In this "tense, competitive America" a few moments of real courtesy and graciousness, not its empty, abused form, might help to make living a little more pleasant for all of us. The American Psychological Foundation was established in 1953 to receive gifts from psychologists who wish to contribute to the advancement of psychology as a science and a profession in the service of knowledge and the welfare of man. Through its awards program the Foundation honors annually a senior psychologist who in his whole career has made distinguished contributions to research and scholarship (the Gold Medal Award), and it also recognizes outstanding achievements in teaching and in interpreting psychology in public media (books, newspapers, television.) Through its small grants program it supports activities of importance to psychology that would otherwise go unfunded. For example, it provides APA journals to libraries in developing nations. In addition, in appropriate cases the Foundation contributes funds to support programs of other organizations which are consistent with the purposes of the Foundation. In accordance with the Bylaws, the Foundation is placed in the hands of a Board of Trustees, consisting of the seven most recent past presidents of the APA and other members of the Association elected by the Trustees then in office. The Foundation's program depends on the concern and generosity of psychologists. Some contribute in the form of specific cash contributions. Others assign all or part of their royalties from books, particularly books that draw heavily on the work of other psychologists. Others routinely assign income from reprinting of their papers in books of readings or other collections. Some have designated the Foundation a beneficiary in their wills. Contributions are tax deductible. This article includes a list of the names of all whose contributions to the APF were received in 1973. The author informs that a note in the Comment section of the December 1953 issue of this journal described how the Eastern Psychological Association recorded much of the material that was presented at its 1953 meeting and broadcast part of it over an educational FM station. The author feels that any activity that brings to the public a true picture of what a psychologist is, and does, is a commendable activity, but all these activities should be properly evaluated. The author poses a suggestion to help speed up the dissemination of research findings, etc., from professional journals to interested readers. He suggests that journals in psychology consider presenting the abstracts of recently accepted articles in addition to the information being presently reported (e.g., title, author, and institutional affiliation). Introduces the current issue of Professional Psychology: Research and Practice. The editor discusses his appointment of four associate editors, to serve as action editors for individual submissions and assemble groups of articles on special themes, and notes that the intent of the new editorial team is to make the journal a forum for the discussion of how evidence-based practice is fulfilled. He also notes that the journal will be a forum for providing a fair and balanced presentation of any and all controversial issues relevant to professional psychology, and discusses the types of articles that will and will not be published. The NIMH-sponsored Visiting Psychologist Program has completed its seventh year of operation. This program is designed to facilitate the dissemination of current knowledge generated in recent research findings and to provide for the demonstration of innovations in psychological research to mental health professionals. The program attempts to reach practitioners in service settings by offering consultation, lectures, and demonstrations by psychologists who are themselves significantly involved in research, training, and delivery of services. During the 1973-1974 program year, 49 agencies were visited, of which 38 were newly selected agencies and 11 were return visits to agencies visited the previous year. Forty-eight psychologists participated as visitors in the program. Agencies that received initial visits are listed, with their Visiting Psychologists, in Table 1. Agencies and Visiting Psychologists involved in return visits are listed in Table 2. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) 相似文献

2 conferences, one in August 1955 and the other in August 1957, on "The Identification of Creative Scientific Talent" were supported financially by the National Science Foundation. Titles of research reports and authors are presented. Reports of special committees at each conference are summarized. "A multiplicity of hypotheses and problems needing research… emerged throughout both conferences. It is hoped that concurrent attacks on problems of creativity will be undertaken by researchers in industry, government, universities, and school systems."
