A Statistical Analysis of the Grades of B.S.E.E. Recipients

A statistical analysis is performed on 11 course grades for over 200 B.S.E.E. students. These students graduated from the California State University, Long Beach (C.S.U.L.B.) over a four-year period. The resulting means and correlations along with certain other data provide an interesting insight into academic tendencies. Some conclusions are drawn from these tendencies as to future industrial success and as to effective course development.

本文以一个典型二维涡流场问题作为计算实例,分析了■有限元法求解线性涡流场时产生离散误差的主要因素.为了得到较高的磁密计算精度,文内分析比较了几种计算方法,得出精度较高而无需增加计算机内存的一种混合解法.     

C.A.E. Software for Transmission Protection System: Puget Power Experience

One major concern of a protection engineer is to achieve successful coordination of all relays in a transmission network. This tedious and laborious process is usually accomplished manually at present. In this paper we present the results of a Computer-Aided Protection System based on our experimentation with the entire 115 kV transmission network of Puget Sound Power and Light Company (Puget Power), which consists of 38 buses and 61 lines. The protection package entails algorithms for both overcurrent and distance relays. Effective man-machine interaction is provided by means of computer-graphics. Such interaction is invaluable in providing the protection engineer with both the details of coordination process and the control over this process. A novel feature of the package is the performance and analysis feature for overcurrent relays. The results for the above system are provided and the execution times for different test cases using an IBM 4341 computer system are also presented.

The effect of transition-metal addition on the non-equilibrium E.M.F.-type gas sensor

In this study, we made single chamber gas sensor which had two SnO₂ electrodes pasted onto either side of zirconia electrolyte. Transition metal (TM) was added in one of two SnO₂ electrodes to induce and thus confirm the catalytic effect of transition-metal. Since 1 mol% TM-doped SnO₂ showed the negligible change in microstructure, the effect of microstructure change could be ignored. The Co addition increased the e.m.f. of working electrode (TM-added SnO₂) in air, implying the enhanced oxygen adsorption. The addition of TM to SnO₂ was also effective in changing the e.m.f. values in H₂ balanced by air. Fe and Ni addition exhibited decreased e.m.f. in H₂ from that in air. Thus, Fe and Ni addition improved the catalytic activity for H₂ oxidation. Cu addition slightly improved the catalytic activity for CO oxidation. The results show that Co is expected to be a good additive for the cathode of solid-oxide-fuel-cell (SOFC) at low temperature. On the other hand, Fe, Cu, or Ni is good additives for anode.
