Competitive field tests with -fluorinated analogs of compounds III and IV (III--F and IV--F, respectively) of the boll weevil,Anthonomus grandis Boh., aggregation pheromone showed these compounds, when combined with the other pheromone components [(±)-I and II], to be as attractive as grandlure [(+)-I, II, and III+IV]. Dose-response curves constructed from electroantennograms of male boll weevils to serial stimulus loads of III, IV, III--F, IV--F, and the corresponding acyl fluorinated analogs (III-acyl-F and IV-acyl-F) showed the -fiuorinated analogs to be as active as the pheromone components (threshold=0.1 g), while the acyl fluorinated analogs had a 10-100 x higher threshold (=1-10 g). Single-neuron recordings showed that IV neurons and II neurons (Dickens, 1990) responded to IV--F and III--F, respectively, while IV-acyl-F and III-acyl-F were inactive. Since a previous study showed compounds I, II, and IV to be essential for behavioral responses in the field, it seems likely that the activity of the -fluorinated analogs observed here is due to the stimulation of IV neurons by IV--F as indicated in single neuron recordings.  相似文献

Aldehyde components of lepidopterous pheromones are converted to carboxylic acids by aldehyde oxidizing enzymes (AOEs) that are present at high levels in antennal tissues of adult moths. The AOEs may include O2-requiring aldehyde oxidases as well as nucleotide-cofactor-requiring aldehyde dehydrogenases. Three classes of inhibitors were synthesized and examined in vitro for AOE inhibition usingHeliothis virescens antennae: (1) cyclopropanols, (2) -fluorinated aldehydes, and (3) ,-unsaturated carbonyls. First, cyclopropanated analogs of (Z)-11-hexadecenal (Z11–16A1), a common unsaturated aldehyde component of many species' pheromone blends, were synthesized as isosteric pheromone analogs and as potential inhibitors of the moth AOEs. NMR assignments are reported for thecis- andtrans-cyclopropanols. Cyclopropanols appear to act as oxidase-activated AOE inhibitors, perhaps via the unstable cyclopropanones. Second, -fluoro and ,-difluoro substituted analogs ofZ9–14A1 were synthesized and shown to be modest inhibitors of both the alcohol oxidase and AOE activities. Finally, the most potent inhibitors were ,-unsaturated carbonyl mimics of theZ11–16A1. The -methylene aldehyde was 1000-fold less effective than the vinyl ketoneZ1,11–163-oxo. This inhibition appears irreversible and is postulated to involve electrophilic modification of an active site sulfur nucleophile.Presented at a symposium in honor of Dr. James H. Two plant-derived allelochemicals, berberine and -terthienyl (- T), were tested for their effects on the European corn borer,Ostrinia nubilalis, and its endoparasitoidDiadegma terebrans. The compounds were administered to the host insect in meridic diets, and the responses of the host larvae and parasitoids reared from treated hosts were measured in terms of growth parameters and survival. InO. nubilalis, survival to pupation and adult emergence were reduced significantly by the inclusion of berberine and -T in larval diets at a concentration of 100 g/g. However, in the parasitoid, adverse effects were much more apparent with the -T treatment than with the berberine treatment. -T and one of its metabolites were found in host larvae and in emerged adult parasitoids and their cocoons. Berberine residues were not detected. The implications of these responses to compounds of widely differing physiological properties are discussed with reference to host-plant resistance and biological control.  相似文献

The relative amounts and enantiomeric compositions of monoterpene hydrocarbons in branch and trunk xylem, in needles, and in resin from apical buds in 18 Pinus sylvestris trees have been determined and compared with the terpene content in branch xylem and needles of Picea abies. Besides the high amount of (+)-3-carene, an excess of (+)--pinene has been found in P. sylvestris, whereas in P. abies (–)--pinene dominates over (+)--pinene. In P. sylvestris, clear positive correlations were found between (+)--pinene and (+)-camphene in the four tissues analyzed. Good positive correlations were also observed between (–)--pinene and (–)-camphene in the two types of xylem, between (+)--pinene and (+)--pinene in the resin, and between tricyclene and (–)-camphene in resin and needles. In P. abies, positive correlations were found between (+)--pinene and (+)-camphene in the branch xylem and between tricyclene and (–)-camphene as well as between (–)--pinene and (–)-camphene in the needles. Complex relationships between (–)--pinene and (–)--pinene were found both in the P. abies and in the P. sylvestris tissues. The importance of the enantiomeric composition of -pinene for the host selection of Ips typographus, Tomicus piniperda, and Hylobius abietis is discussed.  相似文献

The intertidal pulmonate limpetTrimusculus reticulatus, which is found in caves or crevices along the California coast, was previously reported to contain two novel diterpenoids, 6-isovaleroxylabda-8,13-dien-7,15-diol (1) and 2,7-diacetoxy-6-isovaleroxylabda-8,13-dien-15-ol (2). Dissection of the animals prior to extraction revealed that the diterpenoids were concentrated in the mantle, foot, and mucus, but not in the viscera. The presence ofT. reticulatus or its mucus was toxic to veliger larvae of the sabellariid reef-building tube wormPhragmatopoma californica. The major diterpenoid1 was responsible for the observed larvicidal activity. Protection against overgrowth by settling invertebrate larvae is important for the survival of this sessile filter-feeding pulmonate. A related pulmonate,T. conica, which was found in similar intertidal habitats in New Zealand, contained 6-acetoxy-7-isovaleroxylabda-8,13-dien-15-oic acid (3) and 1,7,12,18-tetraacetoxy-cholest-5-en-3-ol (4). The diterpene3 was also localized in the foot, mantle, and mucus ofT. conica but was not larvicidal toP. californica.  相似文献

The qualitative and quantitative composition of the principal lipid constituents of Siberian musk deer (Moschus moschiferus) preputial gland secretion, main odor carriers and potential precursors of odorous substances, was investigated by means of high-performance liquid chromatography. Free fatty acids and phenols (10%), waxes (38%), and steroids (38%) were found to be the main groups of the secretion lipids. Cholestanol (I), cholesterol (II), androsterone (III), 4-3-hydroxy-17-ketoandrostene (IV), 5, 3-hydroxy-17-ketoandrostane (V), 5, 3, 17-dihydroxyandrostane (VI), 5, 3, 17-dihydroxyandrostane (VII), and 5, 3, 17-dihydroxyandrostane (VIII) were isolated from the steroid fraction and their structures confirmed by IR, PMR, and mass spectra. 3-Methylpentadecanone (muscone) was not identified among the secretion lipids. Preputial gland secretion stimulated sex behavior of musk deer females.  相似文献

Summary This paper reports a novel ruthenium catalyzed regioselective copolymerization reaction between anthrone, fluorenone or xanthone and ,-dienes such as 1,3-divinyltetramethyldisiloxane and 3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-3,6-disila-1,7-octadiene. This reaction involves the ruthenium catalyzed regioselective Anti-Markovnikov insertion of the carbon-carbon double bonds of the ,-dienes into the aromatic carbon-hydrogen bonds which are ortho to the carbonyl group of anthrone, fluorenone or xanthone. Similar ruthenium catalyzed copolymerization reactions between acetophenone and ,-dienes [1] have been recently reported as have reactions between acetophenone and alkenes to yield monomeric ortho-alkyl substituted acetophenones [2].  相似文献

The conventional deduction procedure of computation of soil () and fertilizer () nutrient efficiencies for the amount of fertilizer required for specified yield targets does not make provision of the amount of soil nutrient derived by crops from the available pool of soil nutrients not accounted for in the amount extracted by a soil test procedure. The derivation of two mathematical models, viz., Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Model I [TNAU Model I] and Model II [TNAU Model II] is reported in this paper which aim at computing the soil () and fertilizer () nutrient efficiencies not accounted for by the conventional method.In the case of TNAU Model I, the relationship between the nutrient uptake (U) and the soil (S) and the fertilizer (F) nutrients was established by assuming a functional relationship of the type U =S +F such that 0 1 and 0 1. In TNAU Model II the same relationship was established as U =S +F + such that 0 1, 0 1 and > 0. The term in the latter model is a measure of the amount of soil nutrient the crop absorbs from a slowly available pool of nutrients not accounted for in the amounts extracted by the soil test procedure employed or applied through fertilizer.The field verification of these models is reported elsewhere.  相似文献

Isolation and characterization of B,D-seco limonoids from Swietenia mahogani have been described. Seven limonoids from S. mahogani and five limonoids from Khaya senegalensis were tested for antifungal activity against the groundnut rust Puccinia arachidis. Mexicanolide, 3-acetoxy-mexicanolide, 3-hydroxymexicanolide, 2,3-dihydroxymexicanolide from K. senegalensis, and 6-acetylswietenine and 6-acetyl-3-tigloylswietenolide from S. mahogani effectively reduced the number of rust pustules on detached groundnut leaves. Possible correlation of structure to antifungal activity is discussed.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the prothoracic defensive secretion of the water beetles Graphoderus cinereus and Laccophilus minutus was examined by gas chromatographic–mass spectrometric analysis of trimethylsilylated gland extracts. The main components are 3,11-dihydroxy-5-pregnan-20-one in G. cinereus and 3,12-dihydroxy-5-pregnan20-one in L. minutus. Fully saturated pregnanes have not been found in the prothoracic defensive glands of dytiscids before. Based on tests with synthetic compounds, their biological role was examined in a feeding assay with the minnow Phoxinus phoxinus. Silphinene sesquiterpenes are established chrysomelid antifeedants. In this work, nine silphinene analogs, 11-acetoxy-5-angeloyloxysilphinen-3-one (1), 11-acetoxy-5-tigloyloxysilphinen-3-one (2), 11-acetoxy-5-iso- butyryloxysilphinen-3-one (3), 11-hydroxy-5-angeloyloxysilphinen-3-one (4), 11,5-dihydroxysilphinen-3-one (5), 11,5-diacetoxysilphinen-3-one (6), 5,11-diisobutyryloxysilphinen-3-one (7), silphinen-3,5,11-trione (8), and O-methyl-5-epicantabrenolic acid methyl ester (10), and a presilphiperfolane sesquiterpene (9) were tested against several divergent insect species, including the lepidopteran Spodoptera littoralis, the chrysomelid Leptinotarsa decemlineata, and five aphid species, and their antifeedant effects were compared with those of picrotoxinin, a GABA-antagonist, and thymol, an allosteric modulator for insect GABA receptors. All insects tested responded to at least one silphinene analog and/or GABA antagonist. Compound 3 and thymol were effective antifeedants against all species tested except S. littoralis, with varying potencies according to their feeding ecologies. The toxicity of these compounds was species-dependent and did not correlate with their antifeedant effect.  相似文献

In order to compare the metabolism of 1,8-cineole in the pyrgo beetle, Paropsisterna tigrina, three other herbivorous insect species, Faex nigroconspersa, Chrysophtharta bimaculata, and Oxyops vitiosa, were fed 1,8-cineole leaf diets. F. nigroconspersa adults excreted predominantly 9-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (36.2% of the volatile constituents) with some 2-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (11.4%). In contrast, larvae excreted predominantly 2-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (27.4%) and smaller proportions of 9-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (5.2%) and 3-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (4.3%). C. bimaculata adults excreted predominantly 3-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (16.5%). Oxyops vitiosa adults, on a lower 1,8-cineole diet, excreted predominantly 2,9-dihydroxy-1,8-cineole (4.2%) and 2-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (3.5%), with smaller proportions of 3-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (1.1%) and 9-hydroxy-1,8-cineole (0.5%). This is the first reported occurrence of a dihydroxycineole as an insect metabolite. Gas chromatographic and mass spectral data for hydroxycineoles are recorded and interspecific metabolite variation discussed.  相似文献

The solitary, endoparasitic ichneumonid,Hyposoter exiguae (Viereck) is a parasitoid of the tomato fruitworm,Heliothis zea (Boddie). However, the parasitoid is deleteriously affected by the tomato glycoalkaloid, -tomatine, ingested from hosts (H. zea) fed on artificial diets or semipurified extracts of tomato plants that contained -tomatine. -Tomatine causes prolonged larval development; disruption or prevention of pupal eclosion; deformation of antennal, abdominal, and genital structures; and reduction in adult weight and longevity of the parasitoid. These toxic effects are exacerbated when the dietary dose of -tomatine is increased from 12 mol to 20 mol/g dry wt of diet. However, the toxicity of -tomatine is attenuated in parasitoids reared from hosts fed on artificial diets that contain equimolar or supramolar amounts of 3-OH-sterols admixed with -tomatine. Further, the toxicity of extracts from the foliage of different cultivars of tomatoes toH. exiguae is contingent upon the composite levels of -tomatine and total phytosterol (free and esterified). Cultivars with a low total sterol-tomatine ratio are more toxic toH. exiguae. The possible mode of action of -tomatine toxicity toH. exiguae by disruption of sterol metabolism is discussed.  相似文献

Laboratory bioassays and field tests demonstrated that a Swiss population ofS. multistriatus responded much more strongly to - than to -miltistriatin in combination with 4-methyl-3-heptanol and -cubebene. High concentrations of brevicomin appeared to replace -multistriatin in evoking a response byScolytus species, but this effect can be explained by the fact that the brevicomin was contiminated with small amounts of -multistriatin. Frontalin, another bicyclic ketal, showed no biological activity. Field tests indicated thatS. pygmaeus aggregates to the same attractant mixture asS. multistriatus. S. scolytus also responded preferentially to this mixture, but the relative amounts of -multistriatin to 4-methyl-3-heptanol do not appear to be as important as forS. multistriatus.  相似文献

-Pinene and ethanol were released in the approximate proportions 1:0.1, 1:0.9 and 1:9 (at 21°C). Ethanol, released in the range of 3–279 mg/day, generally synergized the attraction of T. piniperda to -pinene (30 mg/day at 21°C), although attraction to the mixtures varied within and between years. The low release rate of ethanol together with -pinene attracted a significantly higher number of beetles than -pinene alone in 1995, April of 1996, and in 1997. Lures with the medium release rate of ethanol were the most attractive only in March of 1996. The high dose of ethanol significantly synergized attraction to -pinene in 1995 and 1997. The variable attraction of T. pinipeda to ethanol and -pinene at various release rates and proportions may be due to the temperature dependent nature of beetle antennal sensitivity. At ambient temperatures of 10–13°C. T. piniperda was most attracted to the lures with -pinene and high release rates of ethanol, at 14–17°C it was most attracted to those with medium release rates of ethanol, and at 18°C and higher it was most attraacted to those with low release rates of ethanol.  相似文献

The field responses ofHylobius abietis (L.) andH. pinastri (Gyllenhal) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) to various combinations of two host monoterpenes and ethanol were studied using baited pitfall traps. Both species were attracted to -pinene, and when ethanol was added the attraction increased by 5–16 times. Limonene completely inhibited the attraction to -pinene, even when the release rate of limonene was only about 1/50 that of -pinene. The catches in traps with -pinene and limonene as well as with limonene alone were similar in size to catches in empty control traps, i.e., no true repellent effect was demonstrated. When limonene was added to the combination of -pinene and ethanol on old clear-cuttings, the catch ofH. pinastri was completely inhibited while that ofH. abietis was reduced by two thirds. On fresh clear-cuttings the inhibitory effect of limonene on the attraction to the -pinene-ethanol combination was small or absent. Some aspects of host interactions are discussed as are practical implications regarding the choice of seedling material for planting and prospects of finding deterrents for protecting seedlings from pine weevil damage.  相似文献

The effects of host tree monoterpenes on primary and secondary attraction of the bark beetles, Ips pini and Ips grandicollis, and their associated phloeophagous insects were investigated. Monoterpenes alone were not attractive to I. pini. However, monoterpenes mediated the attraction of I. pini to its aggregation pheromones. With the exception of 3–carene, the effect of monoterpenes on I. pini's response to its pheromone, ipsdienol plus lanierone, was inhibitory. In contrast, (–)--pinene both attracted I. grandicollis and enhanced the attraction of I. grandicollis to its pheromone, ipsenol. No monoterpene inhibited the response of I. grandicollis to its pheromone. The inhibitory effect of host monoterpenes on I. pini response to its aggregation pheromone differs from previous work, in which monoterpenes either synergized responses or had no effect. In addition to possible geographic differences, the concentrations used in our study simulated trees that had begun to respond to attack, whereas previous studies deployed lower concentrations, which simulated constitutive phloem from unattacked trees. These results support the view that trees that undergo induced responses to bark beetles sometimes inhibit attraction of additional beetles, despite the beetles' production of aggregation pheromones. Neither species displayed cross-attraction to the pheromone of the other. The red turpentine beetle, Dendroctonus valens, showed weak and consistent attraction to (+)--pinene and in some cases to (–)--pinene. Attraction to (–)--pinene was usually enhanced by Ips spp. pheromones. The absence of strong attraction to (+)--pinene and partial attraction to (–)--pinene suggest that the effects of different stereoisomers of -pinene on D. valens vary throughout its geographical range. Hylastes porculus was also attracted to some monoterpenes, particularly (–)--pinene. An additional 10 species of phloeophagous insects were caught in response to monoterpenes and/or pheromones, including the pine root weevils, Hylobius pales and Pachylobius picivorus, and the longhorned beetle, Monochamus carolinensis.  相似文献

Male cockroaches of the genus Blattella secrete courtshippheromones from abdominal tergal glands. Conspecific females mount courting males and feed on their tergal exudates. In the German cockroach, B. germanica, a complex mixture of oligosaccharides was previously identified as the major phagostimulants in the male tergal secretion. We compared the oligosaccharide compositions of three Blattella species from different habitats, B. germanica (house), B. lituricollis (field), and B. nipponica (forest), by gas chromatographic (GC) analysis of their trifluoroacetylated derivatives. The three possessed a series of maltooligosaccharides and oligoglucosyl trehaloses with 14 and 11 linkages in common. However, B. germanica was conspicuous for its accumulation of a oligoglucosyl trehalose with a 16 linkage [O--D-glucopyranosyl-(16)--D-glucopyranosyl -D-glucopyranoside] as the most prominent component of the secretion. Such diversification of the male pheromonal compositions within the genus might be reflected by biosynthetic systems in males and chemosensory properties in females suited for their natural habitat.  相似文献
