Easy state tables for compound statement sequence detectors

A very simple divide-and-conquer method for a class of word statements which breaks down a statement to obtain several simple state tables is presented. By following rules for combining the tables, a correct final state table can be constructed. The method has additional bonuses in that what if changes can be explored, and logically impossible word statements can be detected. The method is easy to apply and it provides students with a way of solving difficult problems correctly

They then analyze magnetizing inrush, overexcitation and current transformer (CT) saturation phenomena as possible causes of relay misoperation. Finally, they summarize the existing methods for discriminating internal faults from inrush and overexcitation conditions

We call attention to an incorrect use of the slip of an asynchronous electric motor as a means for adjusting its speed. A correct approach to the construction of models of a variable-speed electric motor (in particular, in the Matlab-Simulink computational environment) is proposed.

Some call it a “take-away,” while others call it a “trailer” or “theme statement.” It's a technique that drives home the message of each slide in a briefing. Whether it's a proposal or an informative briefing, the take-away leaves the listener with a single emphasis for each focal point. Briefings have been technically enhanced with Power Point presentations and computer graphics. But we need to stay in tune with the basics regarding content and purpose. The take-away focus is an enhancing skill for helping the engineer, or technical communicator, produce professional presentations. Equally as important as the effect on the listener is the effect on the author in preparing the briefing. The author must answer the question, “What is the message that I want to leave with the audience?” This forces the briefer to examine whether each bullet leading up to the take-away is supportive and each slide congruent with the overall theme. The author discusses strategy for giving a presentation involving the use of take-aways. The author discusses how to overcome distractions, how to structure a briefing, and how to support the central theme     

Peculiarities connected with determining the dynamic component of full pressure in hydraulic calculations of flow in channels in a 1D statement

Motion of incompressible fluid in a channel is analyzed in a 1D statement, and formulas for calculating the dynamic component of full pressure drop are presented that take into account variations of flow density and velocity over the channel length. It is shown that application of Bernoulli’s formula for calculating this component is incorrect in certain cases.
