This work aims to produce poly(ethylene terephthalate)/multilayer graphene oxide (mGO) nanocomposites via continuous melt mixing in twin-screw extrusion, and to study the changes in crystallization and melt flow behavior. Three mGO contents (0.05, 0.1, and 0.3 wt%) were used. Differential scanning calorimetry analyses showed that at 0.1 wt%, mGO acted best as nucleating agent, increasing the crystallization kinetics as well as the melt crystallization temperature (Tmc) by more than 20%. It was also observed that mGO increases the crystals perfection. The nucleating behavior was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and small angle X-ray scattering analyses, which showed a decrease in the composites' crystalline lamella thickness (lc) and long period. X-ray microtomography data confirms that this behavior is significantly affected by the mGO agglomerates distribution and specific surface area inside the polymer matrix. The rheological behavior was studied under two different conditions. It was noticed that under lower shear stresses the mGO particles hinder the polymer flow, increasing the composites viscosity and the pseudo-solid character. However, under higher shear stresses, for example, when flowing through a die, the nanomaterial enters its “superlubricity state,” acting as a lubricant to the flow. This is industrially interesting, because it may allow the use of less severe processing parameters to produce the nanocomposites.  相似文献

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/clay nanocomposites (PCNs) with N‐methyl diethanol amine (MDEA)‐based organoclays are synthesized by using in situ polymerization. Four kinds of MDEA‐based materials are prepared and used as organifiers of pristine montmorillonite. The clay treated with the organifiers has a d‐spacing range that is about 14–21 Å. The PCNs with these organoclays are characterized by using wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, capillary rheometry, and tensile and barrier testing. The PCNs form an intercalated and delaminated structure. The well‐stacked nanoclays are broken down into small pieces in the PET matrix and the thickness of the clay bundle decreases to 20 nm. The melt viscosity and tensile strength of these PCNs increases with only 0.5 wt % clay. In oxygen barrier testing, the PCN with 1 wt % well‐dispersed organoclay shows a twofold higher barrier property than pure PET. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The present study demonstrates the use of a simple and versatile melt-compounding route to prepare NaClO4-containing poly(ethylene oxide) PEO/clay nanocomposites combining excellent mechanical properties with a competitive level of the ionic conductivity. The nanostructure and the resulting thermal, mechanical and conductive properties of the salt-containing PEO/clay nanocomposites were found to be highly sensitive to the clay type, i.e. aspect ratio of the clay, to the presence of an organic modifier in the intergallery spacing, and to the salt concentration. The highest increase of the shear storage modulus is obtained in the presence of single silicate layers, thus an exfoliated nanostructure, having a high aspect ratio. These structures are only obtained with an (polar) organically modified clay (Cloisite 30B), regardless of the presence of salt. The use of non-organically modified clays (Cloisite Na+ and Laponite) resulted in intercalated nanocomposites, with only a minor improvement in stiffness. A strong interaction between the Na+ from NaClO4 and the Cloisite 30B silicate layers might be responsible for an increased PEO crystallinity and resultant additional increase in stiffness. A mechanism is proposed whereby the Na+ ions are drawn away from the PEO phase, to be complexed by the silicate layers, or even ion-exchanged with modifier cations. The addition of clay did not greatly affect the ion conductivity below the melt temperature of PEO. At higher temperatures, the nanocomposites displayed only slightly lower conductivities compared to the PEO/NaClO4 complex, due to the presence of the clay platelets.  相似文献

The influence of montmorillonite (MMT) silicate layers on the semicrystalline morphology development of the poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) matrix of PEO/MMT nanocomposites has been investigated by using X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, light microscopy and time-resolved simultaneous small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering. The silicate layers act as nucleating agents for the crystallization of PEO, but at high contents also have a retarding effect on the crystal growth. In that case they are non-crystallisable barriers in the crystallization of the PEO matrix. The lamellar semicrystalline structures of pure PEO and the PEO/MMT nanocomposites are, however, identical.  相似文献

We report a systematic study of the crystallization and rheological behavior of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-clay nanocomposites. To that end a series of nanocomposites based on PEOs of different molecular weight (103 < MW < 105 g/mol) and clay surface modifier was synthesized and characterized. Incorporation of organoclays with polar (MMT-OH) or aromatic groups (MMT-Ar) suppresses the crystallization of polymer chains in low MW PEO, but does not significantly affect the crystallization of high MW matrices. In addition, the relative complex viscosity of the nanocomposites based on low MW PEO increases significantly, but the effect is less pronounced at higher MWs. The viscosity increases in the series MMT-Alk < MMT-OH < MMT-Ar. In contrast to the neat PEO which exhibits a monotonic decrease of viscosity with temperature, all nanocomposites show an increase after a certain temperature. This is the first report of such dramatic enhancements in the viscoelasticity of nanocomposites, which are reversible, are based on a simple polymer matrix and are true in a wide temperature range.  相似文献

Poly(methyl methacrylate)/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites were prepared by in situ bulk polymerization. The results showed that the silicone coupling agent affected the structure and properties of hybrid materials. XRD analysis showed that the dispersion of clay in nanocomposites with silicone‐modified organophilic MMT was more ordered than that in nanocomposites with unmodified organophilic MMT. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the nanocomposites was 6–15°C higher and the thermal decomposition temperature (Td) was 100–120°C higher than those of pure PMMA. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nanofibrous biocomposite scaffolds of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and graphene oxide (GO) were prepared by using electrospinning method. The microstructure, crystallinity, and morphology of the scaffolds were characterized through X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The mechanical properties were investigated by tensile testing. Moreover, Mouse Osteoblastic Cells (MC3T3‐E1) attachment and proliferation on the nanofibrous scaffolds were investigated by MTT [3‐(4,5‐dimeth‐ylthiazol‐2‐yl)‐2,5‐diphenyl tetrazolium bromide] assay, SEM observation and fluorescence staining. XRD and FTIR results verify the presence of GO in the scaffolds. SEM images show the three‐dimensional porous fibrous morphology, and the average diameter of the composite fibers decreases with increasing the content of GO. The mechanical properties of the scaffolds are altered by changing the content of GO as well. The tensile strength and elasticity modulus increase when the content of GO is lower than 1 wt %, but decrease when GO is up to 3 and 5 wt %. MC3T3‐E1 cells attach and grow on the surfaces of the scaffolds, and the adding of GO do not affect the cells' viability. Also, MC3T3‐E1 cells are likely to spread on the PVA/GO composite scaffolds. Above all, these unique features of the PVA/GO nanofibrous scaffolds prepared by electrospinning would open up a wide variety of future applications in bone tissue engineering and drug delivery systems. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We investigated the interfacial tension γ between poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and polystyrene (PS) focusing our attention on the dependence of γ on the molecular weight (M) of PEO and the surfactant effect of poly(ethylene oxide-b-styrene) diblock copolymer [P(EO-b-S)]. Measurements of γ were carried out by observing electric deformation of droplets of PEO suspended in bulk PS or in a concentrated solution of PS in dioctylphthalate (DOP). The results indicate that γ between PEO and PS is almost independent of M of PEO in the high molecular weight region, but exhibits a minimum around M = 500. Addition of 1 wt% of P(EO-b-S) to the PEO/PS system causes a decrease of γ due to the surfactant effect of the copolymer, but γ is almost independent of further addition of the copolymer. The decrement of the interfacial tension Δγ increases with increasing molecular weight of P(EO-b-S).  相似文献

The study focuses on the structure and viscoelasticity of poly(ethylene oxide)/carbon black fluids. The hybrids when subjected to extreme thermal annealing (at temperatures far above the melting point of the matrix) exhibit a 3–4 orders of magnitude increase in viscosity. Surprisingly, the effect is reversible and the viscosity reverts back to its initial value upon subsequent cooling. This rather unique sol–gel transition in terms of strength, steepness and thermal reversibility points to major structural rearrangements via extensive particle clustering, in agreement with microscopy observations. In related systems it was found that when matrix-particle electrostatic interactions are present the gelation is essentially diminished.  相似文献

Amorphous poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PEO/PMMA) blend films in extremely constrained states are meta-stable and phase separation of fractal-like branched patterns happens in them due to heterogeneously nucleated PEO crystallization by diffusion-limited aggregation. The crystalline branches are viewed flat-on with PEO chains oriented normal to the substrate surface, upon increasing PMMA content the branch width remains invariant but thickness increases. It is revealed that PMMA imposes different effects on PEO crystallization, i.e. the length and thickness of branches, depending on the film composition.  相似文献

Six arm poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) stars carrying either 6 pyridyl or 12 hydroxyl groups at their periphery were synthesized using an arm-first approach. To this end, two novel α,ω-heterodifunctional PEO's, namely α-ketal,ω-hydroxy and α-pyridyl,ω-hydroxy PEO's were synthesized and, after the deprotonation of their hydroxyls, deactivated onto hexachlorocyclophosphazene which served to build the core. Quaternization of the stars containing six outer pyridyl groups created positive charges at their periphery while the acidic treatment of stars carrying terminal ketal rings afforded six arm PEO stars with 12 peripheral hydroxyls. The latter compound was subsequently deprotonated and used to polymerize ethylene oxide by a classical core-first approach. This resulted in the formation of highly branched PEO's also referred to as dendrimer-like PEO stars which consisted of a first generation of six PEO arms and a second generation of 12 hydroxy-ended PEO branches.  相似文献

Laponite or graphene oxide (GO) is usually used as a multifunctional crosslinker or a nanofiller to improve the nanocomposite gel strength. To explore the strengthening mechanism of GO/Laponite‐based dual nanocomposite hydrogels, we synthesized a dual nanocomposite hydrogel through in situ polymerization of acrylamide (AM) in the dispersion of GO and Laponite. The interactions between GO and Laponite were confirmed by rheological test. GO and Laponite nanosheets were exfoliated well and dispersed uniformly in the hydrogels at low concentration of GO. Crosslinking network and thermal behaviors were investigated with respect to the concentration of GO and Laponite. The gel exhibited a high mechanical strength of 391 kPa with extensibility of 1420% and a high toughness of 2.58 MJ/m3, which was expected to be applied in biological engineering field. GO is not a much more effective agent than Laponite due to formation of GO aggregates in high concentration of GO. This work provides a guidance for the synthesis of tough dual nanocomposite hydrogels. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2017 , 134, 44963.  相似文献

Poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposites were prepared through in situ reduction of graphene oxide in the presence of P3HT. The nonisothermal crystallization behaviors of P3HT and P3HT/rGO nanocomposites were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. The Avrami, Ozawa, and Mo models were used to analyze the nonisothermal kinetics. The addition of rGO remarkably increased the crystallization peak temperature and crystallinity of P3HT, but the crystallization half‐time revealed little variation. The crystallization activation energies were calculated by the Kissinger equation. The results suggested that rGO plays a twofold role in the nonisothermal crystallization of P3HT, that is, rGO promotes the crystallization of P3HT as nucleating agent, and meanwhile, it also restricts the motion of P3HT chains. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A kind of clay with fibrous morphology, attapulgite (AT), was used to prepare poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/AT nanocomposites via in situ polymerization. Attapulgite was modified with Hexadecyltriphenylphosphonium bromide and silane coupling agent (3‐glycidoxypropltrimethoxysilane) to increase the dispersion of clay particles in polymer matrix and the interaction between clay particles and polymer matrix. FTIR and TGA test of the organic‐AT particles investigated the thermal stability and the loading quantity of organic reagents. XRD patterns and SEM micrographs showed that the organic modification was processed on the surface of rod‐like crystals and did not shift the crystal structure of silicate. For PET/AT nanocomposites, it was revealed in TEM that the fibrous clay can be well dispersed in polymer matrix with the rod‐like crystals in the range of nanometer scale. The diameter of rod‐like crystal is about 20 nm and the length is near to 500 nm. The addition of the clay particles can enhance the thermal stability and crystallization rate of PET. With the addition of AT in PET matrix, the flexural modulus of those composites was also increased markedly. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 1279–1286, 2007  相似文献

The miscibility of a triblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(dimethylsiloxane)-poly(ethylene oxide) with syndiotactic and isotactic poly(methylmethacrylate) wasstudied. Although isotactic poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was miscible with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) in the pure state, it was immiscible with the PEO end blocks in the copolymer. In comparison, the syndiotactic poly(methyl methacrylate) (sPMMA) was miscible with the PEO blocks as indicated by melting point depression, decrease in crystallinity, and slower rate of spherulite growth of PEO. When blends of the triblock copolymer were cooled to low temperatures, the poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) middle block which resided in the interlamellar region of PEO spherulites also crystallized; the development of PDMS crystals was clearly suppressed at high sPMMA contents. On leave from Union Chemical Laboratories, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Hsinchu, Taiwan  相似文献

In this study, poly(ethylene succinate)(PES)/graphene nanocomposites were facilely prepared by in situ melt polycondensation of succinic acid and ethylene glycol in which contained well dispersed graphene oxide (GO). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), GPC, TGA, and XRD were used to characterize the composites. The FTIR spectra and TGA measurement confirmed that PES chains had been successfully grafted onto GO sheets along with the thermal reduction of GO to graphene during the polymerization. GPC results indicated that increasing amounts of graphene caused a slight decrease in number average molecular weight of PES matrix when polymerization time was kept constant. The content of grafted PES chains on graphene sheets was also determined by TGA and was to be about 60%, which made the graphene sheets homogeneously dispersed in the PES matrix, as demonstrated by SEM and XRD investigations. Furthermore, the incorporation of thermally reduced graphene improved the thermal stability and mechanical properties of the composites significantly. With the addition of 0.5 wt % graphene, onset decomposition temperature of the composite was increased by 12°C, and a 45% improvement in tensile strength and 60% in elongation at break were also achieved. The enhanced performance of the composites is mainly attributed to the uniform dispersion of graphene in the polymer matrix and the improved interfacial interactions between both components. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reverse selective membranes comprising poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) containing copolyimides (PEO-PI) with variations of acid dianhydrides and diamines have been synthesized for hydrogen purification. The reverse selectivity of the membranes decimate the energy required for hydrogen recompression process. Factors including PEO content, PEO molecular weight, and fractional free volume (FFV) that would affect the gas transport performance have been investigated and elucidated in terms of degree of crystallinity, phase separation in the PEO domain as well as inter-penetration between the hard and soft segments. In mixed gas tests of CO2 and H2 mixtures, a highly condensable CO2 out compete H2 for the sorption sites in hard segment and diminishes H2 permeability. Thus the CO2/H2 selectivity in the mixed gas tests is much higher than that in pure gas tests. Mixed gas permeation tests at 35 °C and 2atm show that the best reverse selective membranes have a CO2 permeability of 179.3 Barrers and a CO2/H2 permselectivity of 22.7. The physical properties of PEO-PIs have also been characterized by FTIR, DSC, GPC, WAXS, AFM and tensile strain tests.  相似文献

A novel well-defined amphiphilic graft copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide) as main chain and poly(methyl acrylate) as graft chains is successfully prepared by combination of anionic copolymerization with atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The glycidol is protected by ethyl vinyl ether first, then obtained 2,3-epoxypropyl-1-ethoxyethyl ether (EPEE) is copolymerized with EO by initiation of mixture of diphenylmethyl potassium and triethylene glycol to give the well-defined poly(EO-co-EPEE), the latter is deprotected in the acidic conditions, then the recovered copolymer [(poly(EO-co-Gly)] with multi-pending hydroxyls is esterified with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide to produce the ATRP macroinitiator with multi-pending activated bromides [poly(EO-co-Gly)(ATRP)] to initiate the polymerization of methyl acrylate (MA). The object products and intermediates are characterized by NMR, MALDI-TOF-MS, FT-IR, and SEC in detail. In solution polymerization, the molecular weight distribution of the graft copolymers is rather narrow (Mw/Mn < 1.2), and the linear dependence of Ln [M0]/[M] on time demonstrates that the MA polymerization is well controlled.  相似文献

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/chitosan (CS)/graphene oxide (GO) biocomposite nanofibers have been successfully prepared using aqueous solution by electrospinning. CS colloidal gel in 1% acetic acid can be changed to homogeneous solution by using electron beam irradiation (EBI). The uniform distributions of GO sheets in the nanofibers were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and Raman spectroscopy. FESEM images illustrated that the spread single GO sheet embedding into nanofibers was formed via self-assembly of GO sheet and PVA/CS chains. And the average diameters of the biocomposite nanofibers decreased (200, 173, 160 and 123 nm) with increasing the contents of GO (0.05, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 wt%). Raman spectra verified the presence of GO in the biocomposite nanofibrous mats. The mechanical properties of as-prepared materials related with GO contents. It revealed that the highest tensile strength was 2.78 MPa, which was 25% higher than that of neat PVA/CS nanofibers. Antibacterial test demonstrated that the addition of GO to PVA/CS nanofiber had great ability to increase inhibition zone till 8.6 mm. Overall, these features of PVA/CS/GO nanofibers which were prepared by eco-friendly solvent can be a promising candidate material in tissue engineering, wound healing and drug delivery system.  相似文献
