Tutorial and simulation electrooptic and acoustooptic software as innovative methodology to improve the quality of electronic and computer engineering formation

In this paper, an introduction to the main design features of a computer-aided educational package addressed to students of the final years of Electronic and Computer Engineering is presented. The software includes interrelated tutorial, computer simulations, and test questions in which graphical outputs, hypertexts, and animations are widely used. The package is devoted to the simulation study of electrooptic and acoustooptic theory and devices. It provides instant numerical evaluation and a graphical display of different studies. The software presented in this paper has all the following features: an integrative character, self-evaluation tests, a personalized and active learning process, adaptability to teacher's aims, versatility as a teaching tool, multimedia resources, and simplicity. This study has been completed with final-year students at the Superior Polytechnic School of Cordoba, Spain, with highly favorable results when compared with students who did not use the software.     

Workstation-based logic animation and microarchitecture emulationfor teaching introduction to computer engineering

The authors describe two software tools used for teaching logic design and analysis and basic computer organization in the introductory course on computer engineering at the authors' department. The first computer-aided instruction tool described is a schematic capture, simulation, and logic animation package targeted for teaching combinational and sequential logic concepts. The tool incorporates logic animation capability rather than waveform displays, which allows students to view and control logic values propagating throughout the entire network. The second tool teaches computer organization, including microprogramming concepts, by means of the graphical display of an instructional microprocessor architecture in which users are allowed to view and control internal registers, memory locations, and microcontrol store. Both of the computer-aided instructional tools run on UNIX workstations, with graphics displays, local hard-disk mass storage, and mouse input     

Underground cable magnetic field simulation and management using new design configurations

This paper addresses one of the most important sources of magnetic fields: underground power cables. New design configurations for one, two, three and four cables per phase are presented from a magnetic field perspective. Different management techniques are studied in detail. Judicious placement of cable phases in multiconductor lines to reduce the field effect is implemented by computer modeling and simulations. The state-of-the-art magnetic field simulation package PCFIELD developed by EPRI is used to quantify and present the tool used to manage the field values. The new design configuration cases are very useful from a magnetic field point of view and have low cost schemes that can be easily implemented.     

CACHE: An Interactive Control System Analysis and Design Package

CACHE is an interactive control engineering educational software package implemented on a personal computer workstation. The objective of this paper is to highlight the features of CACHE. CACHE provides undergraduate and graduate control engineering students with a comprehensive set of computational and graphics tools incorporating both classical and modern control engineering methodologies. The paper describes the menu-driven hierarchical command structure and the functions of the three CACHE subsystems: database manager, calculator, and plotter. The database manager maintains both state-space and frequency-domain transfer function models of linear time-invariant physical systems. CACHE includes analysis and design tools for both continuous-time and discrete-time systems. The application of CACHE is illustrated through the design of a position servomechanism.

本文简要介绍了地区电网调度员潮流及无功综合优化的在线化应用软件包的设计思想、数学模型、功能及应用情况。在具备ＳＣＡＤＡ功能的地区调度部门开发使用调度员潮流及无功综合优化软件包，能高效经济地提高电网自动化水平，使调度员从经验上升为分析型调度。     

A PC-based workstation for processing and analysis of MRI data

The present work demonstrates that a low cost, flexible and user-friendly workstation for the MRI laboratory can be implemented by using a personal computer and public-domain software. The workstation is based on a Pentium^® personal computer, operating under the Linux operative system, and uses the software Khoros^® (Khoral Research, Albuquerque, NM). This software is a general purpose package for handling signals and we here report its suitability for MR images analysis. Khoros^® allows to create workspaces where different procedures (also written by the users) can be combined for implementing more complex procedures. We created workspaces for obtaining 2D and 3D images from time domain data which also allow for apodization and zero-filling. The time required for a 3D-FFT (matrix size 128×128×128) is about 12 min with the presently used microprocessor. We have also created workspaces for calculating apparent diffusion coefficient maps and for segmentation of MR images. Our results demonstrate that a personal computer equipped with public-domain software can represent a powerful tool to fulfil the MRI laboratory common needs.     

Analyzing the dynamic characteristics of the beam-deflection channel in an electron-beam unit

The design principle of a system for magnetic-beam-deflection control in an electron-beam unit is analyzed. The frequency characteristics of the magnetic-beam-deflection channel in an electron-beam unit are calculated based on a computer model constructed using the Matlab/Simulink software package.     

`EDCON': an educational control system analysis and design program

A PC-based software package called EDCON which is a useful tool for teaching basic control system theory is discussed. It provides a user friendly environment that allows students to vary system parameters and design requirements to see the effects on system response. The package is designed around the root locus plot of a unity feedback control system. It uses a second order approximation technique to calculate and graph the unit step response of the system for any value of gain, and gives all the time and frequency parameters of the system. The package was developed to be used as a complement to an undergraduate course in control systems analysis and design     

DMET: a computer package for the design of digital microwaveline-of-sight communication routes

The computer-aided design software package DMET (Digital Microwave Engineering Tool), which has been developed to meet the needs of the telecommunication engineering community involved in the design of line-of-sight digital microwave communication routes, is described. DMET can be used either by professionals or engineering students in such a way that efforts can be concentrated on the design objectives of the link rather than on cumbersome and tedious computations. This software package is particularly useful as a tool in teaching communication engineering students the basic practical steps involved in the design of line-of-sight radio communication links. Examples of antenna height computation and radio link budget computation using DMET are presented

Accurate modeling of interelectrode resistance and powerdissipation in electric glass melters

An accurate technique for modeling the interelectrode resistances as well as the potential and power density distributions in electric glass melters is presented. The model also provides necessary data for sizing the supply transformers associated with such melters. The solution technique involves only algebraic equations, and therefore can be implemented by simple computer software. An example melter with a two-phase supply and eight electrodes was simulated using the proposed three-dimensional modeling technique. Because of the general nature of the proposed model, this technique provides a valuable as well as reliable and easily implemented design tool for melters with multiphase power supplies and general electrode configurations     

A Computer-Aided Design Toolkit For Continuous/Discrete Systems Based On Continued Fractions

This paper presents new algorithms (1) to generate complete mathematical symbolic expressions of continued fraction expansion coefficients in the s-domain, (2) to determine their numeric values and (3) to perform continued fraction inversion in the s-domain. A software package in PASCAL and LISP to implement these algorithms is developed. In addition, a simple z-domain inversion algorithm used in the computer implementation of bilinear s-z transformation is also included in the software package. These algorithms play an important role in the analysis and synthesis of complex electrical networks and control systems. Especially, the s-domain expansion and inversion algorithms have potential applications in model simplification and system order reductions. the paper also shows that the package, as such, serves as a comprehensive computer-aided analysis and design (CAD) toolkit for both continuous and discrete systems. the software is interactive and runs on computers equipped with a PASCAL or LISP compiler. It is noted that the iterative implementation of these methods using the new continued fraction algorithms saves considerable memory space and processing time. Numerical examples and computer data are given to demonstrate the development of the new algorithms and the usefulness of the software toolkit in the CAD design of continuous and discrete systems.     

DF-PAK: a digital filter design software package

An introduction to a computer-aided design package called DF-PAK is presented. DF-PAK contains software modules for the design and analysis of digital filters and runs on the IBM personal computer (PC). These modules are based on established classical theories and can be integrated to serve a variety of educational needs

Software tools for computer-aided lecturing

This paper describes the concepts used to design a computer-aided lecturing software package and presents its functionalities. It does not present another authoring system used to create didactic materials, but rather a set of tools to increase the efficiency of the professor. This software package, called EOP (Editor-Outliner-Projector), allows professors to effectively structure concepts found in lectures and draw their associated transparencies. In classrooms equipped with a personal computer and a projection system, EOP allows professors to present topics, explain difficulties, emphasize details, and illustrate contents of lessons. This software package has been in use for five years in different course topics     

Object-oriented CEM programming

The essence of object-oriented software technology and its application to CEM have been discussed. OOP is a promising technology for implementing a unified simulation framework for CEM. A well-designed object-oriented CEM package can encapsulate features common to all CEM techniques and support development of new modeling algorithms via object inheritance and polymorphism. Such a package would be a useful modeling tool for the CEM community. As of the writing of this article, there is no coordinated open-source initiative for creating a unified object-oriented CEM package. Availability of such a package would foster new channels of collaboration in the EM community. This would enable future students, engineers, and researchers to better focus their efforts in engineering design and algorithm innovation. The IEEE MTT Society could play an important role in realizing this proposed object-oriented CEM package.

本文介绍了监控系统的总体设计、软硬件平台的选择和软件的设计。利用组态软件平台设计上位机监控界面,利用驱动程序开发包实现RS-485异步串行通信,并以单片机为核心的通信板实现上位机与调光器的通信,以及用实时数据库的点组态方式实现对底层助航灯的实时监控。     

“Cloud” functions and templates of engineering calculations for nuclear power plants

The article deals with an important problem of setting up computer-aided design calculations of various circuit configurations and power equipment carried out using the templates and standard computer programs available in the Internet. Information about the developed Internet-based technology for carrying out such calculations using the templates accessible in the Mathcad Prime software package is given. The technology is considered taking as an example the solution of two problems relating to the field of nuclear power engineering.
