针对Ti-6Al-4V钛合金燕尾榫连接结构在不同载荷下的微动疲劳现象,采用榫形微动疲劳试验进行研究,并对裂纹萌生扩展、微动磨损及断口进行分析。结果表明,微动疲劳使构件疲劳寿命显著降低约70%;疲劳载荷对微动裂纹扩展的影响比对裂纹萌生的影响更大;微动疲劳裂纹起始于接触面边缘,与接触表面约成45°角,裂纹扩展到60~150μm后转向与接触表面垂直;微动疲劳断口形貌表面在微动磨损区具有多个裂纹源点,但只有一个主裂纹形成。  相似文献

Fractographic studies have been conducted on fretting fatigue test specimens made of 7075-T7351 aluminum alloy. Growth rates of fretting fatigue cracks as determined from striation spacings were much higher than would be expected for this alloy based on the cyclic stresses alone. The results indicate that in the early stages of crack growth fretting acts to increase the effective stress intensity factor range, thus greatly accelerating crack propagation rates. However, a full understanding of the early stages of fretting crack growth will also depend upon knowledge of the behavior of short (about 100 μm) fatigue cracks in general.  相似文献

钢丝微动疲劳过程中,钢丝裂纹萌生特性直接影响其裂纹扩展特性,进而制约钢丝微动疲劳寿命,因此开展钢丝微动疲劳裂纹萌生寿命预测研究具有重要意义。基于有限元法、摩擦学理论和断裂力学理论,运用Smith-Watson-Topper(SWT)多轴疲劳寿命准则建立考虑磨损的钢丝微动疲劳裂纹萌生寿命预测模型,基于多种不同的钢丝疲劳参数估算方法对钢丝的微动疲劳裂纹萌生寿命进行了预测,并探究接触载荷、疲劳载荷、交叉角度及钢丝直径等微动疲劳参数对钢丝微动疲劳裂纹萌生寿命的影响规律。结果表明:基于中值法的预测结果最接近实际值;在微动疲劳过程中,钢丝微动疲劳裂纹萌生寿命主要与接触载荷和疲劳载荷相关。通过引入微动损伤参数建立简化的适用于钢丝绳的钢丝微动疲劳裂纹萌生寿命预测模型,通过与考虑磨损的预测模型计算结果进行对比验证了该模型的准确性。  相似文献

Fretting fatigue tests of a carbon steel and an aluminum alloy were carried out in various environments and the effects of oxygen and water vapor were investigated by tangential force measurements, the initiation and propagation of cracks and hardness and structural changes of the damaged surface layer. With carbon steel the effect of water vapor is negligible but oxygen has a deleterious effect on the initiation and propagation of fretting fatigue cracks. However, with an aluminum alloy the effect of oxygen is small but water vapor accelerates the initiation and propagation of cracks. Environmental effects are more dominant than the stress conditions with an aluminum alloy; material softening and structural change of the surface layer occur.  相似文献

This work presents a method for assessing the fretting fatigue life by estimating the fatigue crack growth rate from the regime of microcracks to the final failure, which is achieved using a two-threshold small fatigue crack growth model. The propagation thresholds are associated with the interaction of the "monotonic plastic zone" and the "cyclic plastic zone" with the microstructure of the material. The predicted fatigue life and the estimated non-propagating cracks agree very well with the experimental fretting fatigue tests with spherical contact in 7075-T6 aluminium alloy.  相似文献

The crack initiation mechanisms under fretting fatigue conditions are investigated. Fretting fatigue tests have been conducted on an aluminium alloy. Two major crack initiation mechanisms are experimentally observed. They are theoretically identified by employing a simple dislocation dipole model and taking into consideration the reverse sliding along dislocation layers and the influence of the distance between these layers. It is shown that cracks may initiate either by an extrusion-intrusion mechanism or a fatigue tensile process. Two parameters respectively linked to each of these initiation mechanisms are proposed to predict crack location. The theoretical crack initial growth directions and locations are shown to correlate very well with the experimental ones. With regards to these initiation processes, a spall detachment mechanism is proposed considering the interaction of microcracks.  相似文献

The fretting fatigue damage of mechanical joints is studied experimentally by considering the following scenario: first, the crack nucleation in the joint is investigated via fretting tests. Second, the propagation of the fretting cracks under cyclic uniaxial tensile loading is carried out and analysed. Synchrotron radiation X-ray micro-tomography is used to image for the very first time the three-dimensional shape of the initial fretting cracks as well as that of the propagating cracks at different stages of the fatigue life, thanks to a dedicated set-up. This technique brings new experimental data on the influence of the local microstructure on fretting fatigue damage, initiation and growth.  相似文献

Fretting fatigue tests for Ti–6Al–4 V alloy were conducted by use of the plate fatigue specimen with bolt-tightened shoe on both sides of the plate. It was clarified that the repeated bending stress at the contact area where fretting fatigue failure starts linearly decreased as stress over the contact area increased. Fretting fatigue crack starts from the pit where stress concentrate. The pit initiates when fretting debris were removed from the surface striation formed due to the contact slip movement. The fretting fatigue crack initiation mode was transgranular, while the fretting fatigue crack propagation mode was striation.  相似文献

在自制的微动磨损试验机上进行钢丝的微动磨损试验,将微动磨损后的钢丝试样在液压伺服疲劳试验机上进行不同应力比和不同应力幅下的疲劳试验。结果表明,钢丝的微动磨损深度随微动时间和接触载荷的增加而增加,磨损缺口处的应力集中使其成为了裂纹萌生源,也使钢丝试样的疲劳寿命大大降低,微动磨损后钢丝试样的疲劳寿命和磨损深度呈反比关系。通过钢丝疲劳断口的SEM形貌分析了其疲劳断裂机制,断口对应不同的疲劳阶段,可分为裂纹萌生区、裂纹扩展区和裂纹瞬断区。  相似文献

This research investigated the effects of microstructural characteristics on the fretting response in 2XXX series aerospace aluminium alloys. Fretting fatigue tests were conducted to determine the influence of slip character, alloy purity, grain structure and yield strength on fretting crack nucleation and growth. Crack length measurements and micrographs of the specimens indicated there was no significant difference in the fretting response of these alloys based on their microstructural characteristics. Results also showed that fretting caused cracks to nucleate in the first 1–5% of total life which resulted in much shorter fatigue lives. Additionally, fretting normalized the nucleation time in all alloys, eliminating the differences in intrinsic fatigue nucleation resistance. This resulted in the alloys with the highest stress-life (S–N) fatigue properties exhibiting a greater reduction in fatigue strength under fretting conditions. The total fretting fatigue life appeared to be primarily determined by the fatigue crack propagation resistance of the alloys.  相似文献

Suitability of different multi-axial parameters in predicting fretting fatigue life of Ti-6Al-4V specimens has been investigated. Ameliorating effect of surface treatments on fretting fatigue has been studied. In simple uni-axial/multi-axial fatigue tests, nucleation as well as propagation of cracks occur under the influence of identical stresses. Hence nucleation accounts for most of the total life. Fretting fatigue crack nucleation occurs due to very large contact stresses, effect of which is felt only close to the surface (due to steep gradients). Propagation mostly occurs due to lower stresses in the bulk of the material (negligible influence of contact tractions) and forms a significant portion of total life. Total life has to be taken as sum of initiation life calculated from different multi-axial fatigue parameters and propagation life from conventional fracture mechanics approach. Steep stress gradients necessitate the adoption of a statistics based approach to predict the crack initiation life, based on an assumed distribution of flaws. The quality of comparison between predicted and experimentally observed failure lives provides confidence in the notion that conventional fatigue life prediction tools can be used to assess fretting fatigue failure. Effect of surface treatments like shot-peening with or without additional surface coatings on total life of the specimen and on friction coefficient has been studied.  相似文献

Inconel 690 alloy is used in nuclear power plant steam generator tubes. Fretting fatigue experiments were performed on Inconel 690 specimens at room temperature and at the nuclear power plant operating temperature of 320 °C. By comparing the fretting fatigue test data at room temperature and 320 °C, this study analyzed the change in characteristics related to the fatigue limit at 107 cycles. In addition, this study attempted to measure changes in the friction force for repetitive cycles in fretting fatigue tests, and analyzed the mechanism of fretting fatigue by observing the fracture surfaces and performing spectrum analysis.  相似文献

Fretting fatigue is a combination of two complex mechanical phenomena. Fretting appears between components that are subjected to small relative oscillatory motions. Once these connected components undergo cyclic fatigue load, fretting fatigue occurs. In general, fretting fatigue failure process can be divided into two main portions, namely crack initiation and crack propagation. Fretting fatigue crack initiation characteristics are very difficult to detect because damages such as micro-cracks are always hidden between two contact surfaces.In this paper Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM) approach in conjunction with Finite Element Analyses (FEA) is used to find a predictor tool for fretting fatigue crack initiation lifetime. For this purpose an uncoupled damage evolution law is developed to model fretting fatigue crack initiation lifetime at various fretting condition such as contact geometry, axial stress, normal load and tangential load. The mechanical behavior and microstructural changes in Ti–6Al–4V were determined in fretting tests, followed by axial fatigue tests. Prior to fatigue testing, specimens were subjected to fretting conditions over a range of contact stresses and fretting displacements. Fretting frequency was 100 Hz. High cycle fatigue (HCF) tests were run at 1000 Hz. The fretting test involved a flat-on-flat, bare Ti–6Al–4V/bare Ti–6Al–4V fretting system. The fretting process typically generated very shallow surface cracks at the ends of the wear scar. Subsequently, these shallow cracks were observed to propagate in axial fatigue tests, reducing the fatigue life significantly. Evidence of frictional heating during fretting was observed in the formation of scale-like oxide in the wear scar. Formation of oxides appeared to increase with increasing contact stress. Increased oxygen content was detected in the near surface regions of specimens. Large near surface deformation was typically observed within the wear scar. The contact geometry and slight tilting of the stationary fretting pad influenced the character of the fretting scar and the fretting-induced cracking. Fracture surfaces exhibited featureless, battered surfaces at the crack origins followed by (a) cleavage-type crack propagation, (b) formation of fatigue striations, and (c) final ductile tearing.  相似文献

A large number of research works have been devoted to fretting fatigue from both mechanical and metallurgical viewpoints. In the present paper, fracture mechanical approaches for evaluating fretting fatigue life and strength have been briefly reviewed. Furthermore, a new approach based on a singular stress field near the contact edge and on fracture mechanics has been proposed. The directions of crack initiation and propagation as well as fretting fatigue life, which have coincided with the experimental results, could be estimated according to the new approach, in which singular stress near the contact edge and mixed mode crack growth have been taken into consideration. In the application of the new method to predict the fretting fatigue behavior, there are still several problems to be clarified, which have also been discussed in detail.  相似文献

利用扫描电镜对多轴比例和非比例加载下的疲劳试样的断口面和外表面进行扫描观测分析。根据薄壁管拉一扭复合加载试件断口附近表面观测结果,统计其裂纹扩展的位向,研究多轴疲劳裂纹萌生及扩展机理。研究表明,多轴疲劳裂纹主要是沿最大剪切平面或垂直于管形试样的轴线方向扩展。在多轴比例加载条件下,裂纹分布的分散性较小。在非比例加载条件下,随着相位差的增大,分散性增大。  相似文献

This paper analyses the growth of cracks in fretting fatigue from an initial flaw at the surface. Different crack growth laws are used in order to take into consideration the particular behaviour of short cracks. This methodology is applied to estimate life in various fretting fatigue tests with spherical contact characterized by two different geometries. The material used in the experiments is Al7075. The two geometries present significant differences in the evolution of the stresses, crack growth, etc. which are discussed. The approaches used to model short crack growth give different results, some of them being in good agreement with the experiments.  相似文献

An experimental setup has been developed to conduct fretting fatigue tests at 610 °C and fretting fatigue lives are characterized for the contacting pair of IN100 and single crystal nickel subjected to a range of loading conditions. A well characterized set of experiments have been conducted to obtain the friction coefficient in the slip zone. A robust quasi-analytical approach, based on solution to singular integral equations, has been used to analyze the contact stresses. Different multi-axial fatigue parameters have been investigated for their ability to predict the initiation life of the specimens. An estimation of crack propagation life was made using conventional fracture mechanics approaches, after making certain assumptions to simplify the problem. Total life was predicted using nucleation life from different parameters and propagation life from conventional fracture mechanics approach. These predicted lives were compared with experimentally observed failure lives. The quality of the comparison provides confidence in the notion that conventional life prediction tools can be used to assess fretting fatigue at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

High temperature fatigue tests under fluctuating axial tension were carried out on the alloy in the fully heat treated condition, the microstructure consisting of a β matrix containing colonies of aligned α-platelets. Fatigue cracks were initiated by fretting at temperatures of 400°C and 600°C. A detailed metallographic examination has been made of the fretted region and the resulting fatigue crack and these characteristics have been related to the microstructure of the alloy. At test temperatures of 400°C the fatigue cracks initially propagated at right angles to the α-platelets but where their orientation was unfavourable, propagation also occurred parallel to the α-platelets. At test temperatures of 600°C the initial direction of crack propagation was independent of the microstructure.  相似文献

This paper describes testing of Ti-6Al-4V coupons in fretting fatigue and compares the effects of mechanical surface treatments on performance. Fretting fatigue tests were performed using a proving ring for fretting load, bridge-type fretting pads, and applied tension-tension cyclic fatigue stress. As-machined (AM), shot peened (SP), and laser peened (LP) coupons were evaluated, and data generated to compare residual stress, surface condition, lifetime, and fractographic detail encountered for each. Near-surface residual stress in SP and LP coupons was similar. The layer of compressive residual stress was far deeper in LP coupons than in SP coupons and, consequently, subsurface tensile residual stress was significantly greater in LP coupons than in SP coupons. SP coupons exhibited a rough surface and had the greatest volume of fretting-induced wear. LP coupons exhibited a wavy surface and had a small volume of wear localized at wave peaks. SP coupons had the greatest fretting fatigue lifetime, with significant improvement over AM coupons. Lifetimes of LP coupons were similar to those for SP coupons at high fatigue stress, but fell between AM and SP coupons at lower fatigue stress. Fractographic evaluation showed that fractures of AM samples were preceded by initiation of fretting-induced cracks, transition of a lead fretting crack to mode-I fatigue crack growth, and crack growth to failure. SP and LP samples exhibited behavior similar to AM samples at high fatigue stress, but in coupons tested at low stress the lead crack initiated subsurface, near the measured depth of maximum tensile residual stress, despite the presence of fretting-induced cracks. The level of fatigue stress above which lead cracks were initiated by fretting was higher for LP than for SP, and was predicted with good accuracy using an analysis based on linear elastic fracture mechanics, the fatigue crack growth threshold stress intensity factor range, and superposition of measured residual stress and applied fatigue stress.  相似文献
