Tower cranes are major construction equipment that is highly demanded in construction projects. The planning process for tower cranes utilization starts in early stages of the construction projects. Poor selection could incur extra costs on the construction projects or cause delays in project duration. The planning procedures for tower cranes include selection, allocation and operation. This paper presents a framework for the selection of tower cranes types and locations at construction sites. The framework considers three main models: 1) decision making model to select the tower crane type, 2) optimization model for the selection of the ideal number and location of tower cranes, and 3) 4D simulation model to simulate tower crane operations. Several clash detection scenarios are presented to assure the safety operation of the tower crane group. A case study is shown herein to demonstrate the capabilities of the developed framework.  相似文献

Concrete formwork is a labor-intensive and time-consuming operation. Many modular formwork systems have been developed to automate the process. Such systems improve the productivity as well as the cost-effectiveness of the operation. However, proper planning for the form reuse schemes in the design as well as the construction phases of a building, including resource allocations (modular form sets, cranes, workers, etc.), and the construction sequence, is vital for ensuring a successful use of modular formwork systems. Computer process simulation techniques are employed in this research for the study of different form reuse schemes to use gang forming systems in building construction. Five form reuse schemes are identified. The CYCLONE modeling methodology is employed to develop computer models for each of them. MicroCYCLONE simulations and sensitivity analyses of the schemes, using different numbers of form sets, cranes, and labor crews, are then conducted for a real case to assess their impact on the productivity as well as the cost-effectiveness of the operation. The objective is to better understand the characteristics of different form reuse schemes and, in turn, to produce better plans for gang forming construction. Thus, the application of modular formwork systems in building construction can be facilitated.  相似文献

The growing need for improved construction procurement and managerial systems, point to the usefulness of a knowledge-based advisory system to help optimise such decisions, amidst the multiplicity of project variables. This new system would harness lessons learnt from past and present research and practice. A Hong Kong based study on a sample of different building projects and professionals, has yielded ‘knowledge’ that has been analysed and structured into pilot/sample core modules of a proposed knowledge-based decision support system. Results from statistical analysis of the data and an Artificial Neural Network model confirmed the value of the proposed system. An extended study to gather more data/knowledge is recommended to further develop the proposed system, using the methodology presented in this paper.  相似文献

The special conditions to be considered in the project management of modernizing existing buildings is discussed. Using the flow line principle for the time scheduling of this process, the traditional methods used in new building projects are not, in themselves, sufficient. One needs to consider minimizing the disruption of the use of the building, the spatial and temporal concentration of modernization tasks, the continuity of modernizaation process in each functional section, the nonrhythmical sequence of some partial processes, the discontinuous resource allocution and the uncertainty of the duration of several activities.  相似文献

Lately the construction industry has become more interested in designing and constructing environmentally friendly buildings (e.g. sustainable buildings) that can provide both high performance and monetary savings. In general, sustainability integrates the following three related components: (1) environmental, (2) economic, (3) social well-being. Incorporating these components at the conceptual stage is achieved by using sustainable design, through which designers must identify associated materials and systems based on any selected certification (rating) system. The use of building information modelling (BIM) concepts helps engineers design digital models that allow owners to visualize the building before the physical implementation takes place. To apply BIM concepts, designers use tools to create 3D models of buildings where the design materials and systems are selected from the built-in database of these tools. Designers will not be able to quantify the environmental impacts of these materials to support the decisions needed to design sustainable buildings due to the following reasons: (1) a lack of information about the sustainable materials that are stored in the database, (2) a lack of interoperability between the design and analysis tools that enable full life cycle assessments (LCAs) of buildings. This paper presents a methodology that integrates BIM and LCA tools with a database for designing sustainable building projects. The methodology describes the development and implementation of a model that incorporates a database in which information about sustainable materials is stored and linked to a BIM (3D) module along with an LCA module and a certification and cost module. The goal of this model is to simplify the process of creating sustainable designs and to evaluate the environmental impacts (EI) of newly designed buildings at the conceptual stage of their life. Especially in large, complex projects, various aspects of process (activity network) information reside in separate models and diagrams that can become unsynchronized over time. Prior research has introduced the concept of a process architecture framework (PAF), which provides a solution by tying all the models and diagrams together in a single, rich process model with many views, where each view presents a subset of model information. This paper advances that work by (1) proposing an expandable PAF structure that organizes 27 + new and existing views, (2) suggesting examples of three new views that align well with specific concerns of users, and (3) presenting insights to guide the development of new views. Thus, this paper takes further steps towards the development of a PAF that provides at once both simplicity and completeness for project managers and other users of process models and project management information systems.  相似文献

This paper brings together the visions for information and communications technologies (ICT) in construction and the changing requirements of the construction industry. Drawing on case studies, previous research and future scenarios outlined by research road mapping projects, it illustrates how the areas identified as having potential for improvement can be addressed through the use of mobile IT. This vision is then developed into a scenario for communicating to industry professionals the construction site of the future. Their feedback on this scenario is used to assess the viability of the research propositions within mainstream construction. Finally, the paper examines the implications for the construction industry should the vision for the future be adopted; the potential for new islands of automation; the effects on our human resources; and the potential impact on knowledge management initiatives.  相似文献
