Transmission characteristics of a CPFSK differential detection system with LD direct modulation are studied by computer simulation. Simulation results show that the optimum wavelength for LD direct modulation CPFSK transmission shifts to a wavelength longer than zero dispersion wavelength because of the phase difference between the intensity and frequency modulation components. A precise investigation of the dependence of optimum total dispersion on several parameters reveals the essential role of the phase difference between intensity and frequency modulation induced by LD direct modulation. The transmission distance allowing a 1-dB power penalty at 10 Gb/s is 117 km for a wavelength 30 nm shorter than the zero dispersion wavelength, while the distance is 183 km for a wavelength 30 nm longer. Fractal modulation schemes have been under investigation for signal transmission over time-varying channels because of their advantages in data transmission at different frequency bands. This also allows efficient reception when channel conditions are varying by selecting the optimal frequency/time resolution based on the current channel condition. We present a performance analysis of fractal modulation transmission over Rician fast-fading channels in the presence of AWGN. A quadrature transmission scheme is simulated and compared, in terms of error robustness, to a QAM transmission system. Other papers analysing fractal modulation system performance do not consider time-varying channels, which are important as they represent the main configuration for communication systems based on this modulation technique. The novelty of our paper lies in the comparison of a fractal modulation system to a QAM one (core of the OFDM modulation technology, extensively used in broadcasting) using a testbed simulation environment where additive noise and fast fading are considered as typical error sources for transmission over wireless channels. Several wavelet families for a fractal modulation scheme have been considered and performance for each one measured; results reported show the effectiveness of the fractal modulation paradigm and confirm its effective utilization in data broadcasting.  相似文献

A supervisory (SV) signal transmission scheme for long haul optical amplifier systems is described. The scheme is based on subcarrier overmodulation of the line signal and features simple configuration; due to the use of EDFA gain modulation, no additive optical components are required in a submarine repeater to transmit a response signal. This paper discusses the subcarrier modulation index and frequency used for the SV signaling, the most significant design parameters. The dependence of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on the modulation index in SV signal transmission is analyzed to clarify the modulation index value required for reliable SV signaling. In addition, the line signal impairment caused by subcarrier overmodulation is also analyzed to show the system's in-service feasibility. The subcarrier frequencies used for command and response signal transmission are discussed from the experimental results on the frequency response of an optical amplifier system and EDFA gain modulation efficiency  相似文献

针对全球移动通信系统 (GSM) 的安全机制不能实现端到端安全通信问题,提出了一种低复杂度基于脉冲调制的数据传输方案及优化方法。分别设计了基于脉冲位置调制及脉位结合极性调制的类语音信号,给出了基于跳时脉冲的帧同步方法。搭建了基于脉冲调制的GSM语音信道数据传输仿真平台,分析比较了不同调制阶数和不同自适应多速率编码 (AMR) 码率下系统的性能。为了提高系统可靠性,引入卷积码进一步降低了系统误码率。仿真结果表明,4阶脉冲调制最适用于语音信道,所提脉冲调制方法与传统低复杂度频移键控 (FSK) 调制方式误码率近似,但传输速率高,且提出的脉位结合极性调制进一步提高了传输速率,总提高比例达到36%。  相似文献

A low-complexity protocol is described and evaluated for adaptation of the modulation and coding for multicast transmission in half-duplex packet radio networks. The adaptive multicast transmission protocol is designed to compensate for changes in propagation conditions that occur from packet to packet during a session with one sender and multiple receivers. The protocol relies on simple receiver statistics to obtain the control information for adapting the modulation and coding, and it also provides scheduling to avoid collisions among acknowledgments from the receivers. The throughput provided by the protocol is compared with performance results for hypothetical ideal adaptive multicast transmission protocols that are given perfect channel state information. We illustrate the importance of adaptive modulation and channel coding in systems that employ fountain coding for packet erasure correction.  相似文献

Investigations are carried out on the performance of video transmission systems employing square wave frequency modulation (SWFM). A simple formula for the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the SWFM video transmission systems is derived. The SNR performance is compared to that of frequency modulation (FM) and pulse frequency modulation (PFM). SWFM is shown to display the greatest receiver sensitivity when the fiber 6 dB bandwidth is less than 100 MHz. Video transmission experiments demonstrate the advantages of the SWFM, including 1) degree of simplicity in modulation/demodulation circuits as well as in optical transmitter and receiver circuits, 2) tolerance to nonlinearities in the system, and 3) insensitivity to the fiber baseband frequency-phase characteristics. Both the theoretical and experimental results have made clear the superiority of SWFM optical video transmission systems in application to CATV distribution systems and subscriber loop systems.  相似文献

FM-FDM (frequency division multiplexing) optical transmission equipment has been developed for 34-channel MUSE HDTV (high-definition television) signals to realize optical CATV (cable television) systems. The equipment uses an LD (laser diode) with a 1.3 μm wavelength, a single-mode optical fiber, and an avalanche photodiode (APD). A good picture is received after a 42 km transmission. A part of the multiplexed signals is distorted near or below the threshold of an LD. When the number of transmission channels is small and the total optical modulation depth is large, this nonlinearity governs the power ratio of an FM signal to one distortion component-the DU ratio. However, when the number of transmission channels is large, the DU ratio is determined by the effective optical modulation depth rather than the total optical modulation depth. Furthermore, the method of system design is clarified for an optical trunk line CATV system. If no restriction on the transmission bandwidth of optical devices exists, approximately 30 km transmission of 100-channel MUSE HDTV signals is available with a received CN ratio of 17.5 dB  相似文献

A comparison between external phase modulation and phase modulation obtained through direct current modulation of a multiquantum-well distributed feedback (DFB) transmitter is reported for a sensitive 565 Mb/s differential-phase-shift-keying (DPSK) heterodyne transmission experiment. A limited sensitivity penalty for direct phase modulation is expected from the driving current pulse shape, the transmitter FM response and the receiver characteristics. The experimentally observed 0.5 dB penalty is in agreement with theory and highlights the potential of direct DPSK modulation as compared to both standard DPSK and continuous-phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK) schemes.<>  相似文献

This paper considers bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) for bandwidth-efficient transmission using software radios. A simple iterative decoding (ID) method with hard-decision feedback is suggested to achieve better performance. The paper shows that convolutional codes with good Hamming-distance property can provide both high diversity order and large free Euclidean distance for BICM-ID. The method offers a common framework for coded modulation over channels with a variety of fading statistics. In addition, BICM-ID allows an efficient combination of punctured convolutional codes and multiphase/level modulation, and therefore provides a simple mechanism for variable-rate transmission  相似文献
