The body mass is one of the major indicators which determine the clinical condition of newborns, influence the rate of neonatal mortality and further development of newborns. In order to prevent malformations it is necessary to identify factors which impair the fetus development and cause fetal hypotrophy. The main objective of the study was to find out whether mothers' occupational work affected the body mass of infants born at term. The study covered a group of 1015 women randomly sampled among those who had delivered their babies in the Polish Mother Memorial Hospital in Lód?, during the years 1992-94. In this group the percentage of working women accounted for 69%. The comparison of the body mass in infants born to women employed and not employed during pregnancy did not indicate differences. However, it was found that male infants born to employed mothers showed a lower body mass than those born to not employed mothers. The effect of some factors modifying infants' body mass was different in the case of not employed women than in those employed. In the group of not employed women a significantly lower body mass in infants was observed in the following subgroups: mothers under 24 years of age, spontaneous abortion of one of previous pregnancies, consumption of large quantity of caffeine (equivalent of > two cups of coffee), and poor economic status. Smoking during pregnancy decreased the body mass of infants in both groups of women. In the group of working women, chronic diseases before pregnancy and diseases involving fever during pregnancy proved to be factors affecting the body mass of infants. The indicators of perinatal medical care (the beginning of medical care and the number of visits during pregnancy) in working women were better than in those not working. None of factors characterizing occupational work affected significantly the body mass of infants. Slightly lower infants' body mass was observed only in those born to mothers working overtime (> 9 hrs daily), involved in hard physical work or working in the environment with harmful chemical and physical factors. According to the data obtained, a negative effect of occupational work on the fetus development should not be overestimated. Nevertheless, the performance of occupational work may aggravate a negative effect of woman's bad health condition on the fetus development.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Reduced options for fertility control over the past decade have increased the rates of unwanted pregnancy. We evaluated whether a woman's negative attitude toward her pregnancy increased the risk of perinatal mortality, in a large, prospective cohort study. METHODS: The association between attitude toward the pregnancy and perinatal mortality was evaluated in a longitudinal cohort study of 8823 married, pregnant patients enrolled from 1959 to 1966 in the Child Health and Development Studies. RESULTS: Women who reported during the first trimester of prenatal care that the pregnancy was unwanted were more than two times more likely to deliver infants who died within the first 28 days of life than were women reporting accepted pregnancies. A positive attitude toward pregnancy was not associated with fetal death or post-neonatal death. CONCLUSIONS: These data, collected when induced abortions were illegal, may have important implications for the 1990s. If maternal attitude toward the pregnancy is associated with neonatal mortality and abortion laws change such that access is restricted, infant mortality may increase because a greater proportion of births will be unwanted.  相似文献

AIM: To determine the outcome of preterm infants born to mothers with hypertension during pregnancy, and preterm controls. METHODS: 107 infants of 24-32 weeks gestation, born to hypertensive mothers, and 107 controls matched for gestational age, sex, and multiple pregnancy, born to normotensive mothers, were prospectively enrolled over 2 years. Information on maternal complications and medication was obtained and neonatal mortality and morbidities recorded. Survivors were followed up to at least 2 years, corrected for prematurity. RESULTS: One third of the hypertensive mothers were treated with antihypertensive drugs, while 18% received convulsion prophylaxis with phenytoin. Magnesium sulphate was not prescribed. Both groups had a mean gestational age of 29.9 weeks, with the study infants having a significantly lower birthweight than the controls. Four study and three control infants died in the neonatal period. Cerebral palsy was not diagnosed in any infant of a hypertensive mother compared with five of the controls. The mean general quotient for the two groups was very similar and no difference in the incidence of minor neuromotor developmental problems was shown. CONCLUSIONS: Maternal hypertension seems to protect against cerebral palsy in preterm infants without increasing the risk of cognitive impairment. This was independent of the use of maternally administered magnesium sulphate.  相似文献

Results of clinical and epidemiologic studies have shown an increased risk for neural tube defects (NTD) in infants whose mothers were exposed to heat during pregnancy. However, the risk for NTD in infants whose mothers had influenza during pregnancy has not been well studied. This population-based case-control study of infants born in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, from 1968 through 1980 included 385 infants with NTD, 3,647 infants with other birth defects, and 2,676 infants without birth defects. Of the 385 mothers of case infants, 31 reported having a 2-day or longer episode of flu with fever from 1 month before through 3 months after conception (odds ratio (OR) = 3.0; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.9-4.7). Infants of mothers who took medications for their episodes of flu with fever had an even higher risk for NTD (OR = 4.3, 95% CI 2.6-7.1). When mothers of infants with birth defects other than NTD were used as controls, an increased risk of NTD remained for flu with fever (OR = 1.7, 95% CI 1.1-2.5). There was no increased risk for NTD among the infants of mothers who reported fever from causes other than flu. Because of the heterogeneity of maternal flu, the individual contributions of infection, fever, and medications remain difficult to disentangle.  相似文献

An analysis of birthweights of 337 neonates in relation to history of maternal narcotic usage was undertaken. Mean birthweight of infants born to mothers abusing heroin during the pregnancy was 2,490 gm, an effect primarily of intrauterine growth retardation. Low mean birthweight (2,615 gm) was also seen in infants born to mothers who had abused heroin only prior to this pregnancy, and mothers who had used both heroin and methadone during the pregnancy (2,535 gm). Infants born to mothers on methadone maintenance during the pregnancy had significantly higher mean birthweights (2.961 gm), but lower than the control group (3,176 gm). A highly significant relationship was observed between maternal methadone dosage in the first trimester and birthweight, i.e., the higher the dosage, the larger the infant. Heroin causes fetal growth retardation, an effect which may persist beyond the period of addiction. Methadone may promote fetal growth in a dose-related fashion after maternal use of heroin.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Some French pregnant women with phenylketonuria (PKU), born before 1978, have not been tested with the Guthrie method during the neonatal period. They have a risk of spontaneous abortion and their infants are often mentally retarded with microcephaly and/or congenital heart anomaly. CASE REPORT: A woman with a moderate mental retardation became pregnant at the age of 31 years. Her newborn had a severe intrauterine growth retardation with microcephaly and developed mental retardation. This mother became pregnant again 4 years later. Repeated fetal ultrasonography showed progressive growth retardation. Maternal blood phenylalanine concentration was 18 mg/100 mL. Therapeutic abortion at 27 weeks of gestational age showed a fetus with several abnormalities, particularly cardiovascular and cerebral. CONCLUSION: It is still possible to meet women with unrecognized atypical PKU. Fetus or infant born with unexplained growth retardation and microcephaly requires search for maternal PKU.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To study the kinetics of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)-specific antibody in infants born to mothers immunized with an Hib polysaccharide or one of two Hib conjugate vaccines. STUDY DESIGN: Serum antibody to the polyribosylribitol (PRP) moiety of Hib was measured by radioimmunoassay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay at birth and at 2 and 6 months of age in infants born to women immunized with Hib polysaccharide or conjugate vaccine (PRP-D and HbOC). A subset of infants > or = 6 months of age was immunized with Hib conjugate vaccine after licensure of this vaccine for infants. A comparison group of 18 infants born to unimmunized women received the same Hib conjugate vaccine on a similar schedule. RESULTS: Total PRP antibody concentrations were 1.50, 14.4 and 20.4 microg/ml in 2-month-old infants born to mothers immunized with polysaccharide, PRP-D and HbOC vaccines, respectively, and 2.54, 1.35 and 2.46 microg/ml in 6-month-old infants. Infants born to mothers immunized with polysaccharide vaccine had significantly less PRP antibody at 2 months of age but similar antibody concentrations at 6 months of age. Persistence or increases in total PRP antibody during 6 months were noted in 21 of 47 (44.6%) study infants. A subset of study and comparison infants was immunized with a mean of 2.6 doses of Hib vaccines between 6 months and 2 years of age, and all infants had total PRP antibody concentrations > or = 0.15 microg/ml. CONCLUSION: Conjugate Hib vaccines administered during the last trimester of pregnancy resulted in significantly higher PRP antibody titers in infants at birth and 2 months of age than did polysaccharide vaccine. A subset of infants born to immunized mothers was subsequently immunized with Hib conjugate vaccine and had antibody concentrations similar to those in infants born to nonimmunized women.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Neonates with severe thrombocytopenia can have bleeding leading to death or lifelong residual defects. The predictors, frequency, and consequences of fetal thrombocytopenia are not known, nor is it known if there are maternal clinical features that could predict fetal thrombocytopenia. METHODS: We conducted a seven-year cross-sectional study in which platelet counts were determined in newborns' umbilical-cord blood and blood obtained from their mothers at consecutive deliveries in one obstetrical unit. The relations of the umbilical-cord platelet count to maternal risk factors were determined. RESULTS: Platelet counts were determined in blood samples from 15,471 mothers and 15,932 newborn infants. The cord-blood platelet count was less than 50,000 per cubic millimeter in 19 infants (0.12 percent; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.07 to 0.19 percent), whereas the platelet count was less than 150,000 per cubic millimeter in 6.6 percent of the mothers (95 percent confidence interval, 6.2 to 7.0 percent). One infant among those born to 756 mothers with incidental thrombocytopenia, 5 infants among those born to 1414 mothers with hypertension, and 4 infants among those born to 46 mothers with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura had cord-blood platelet counts between 20,000 and 50,000 per cubic millimeter. Only 6 infants (0.04 percent; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.01 to 0.08 percent) had cord-blood platelet counts of less than 20,000 per cubic millimeter; all their mothers were among the 18 whose 19 fetuses were at risk for neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. Two of these infants had in utero intracranial hemorrhage. In addition, 3 infants born to these 18 women had cord-blood platelet counts between 20,000 and 50,000 per cubic millimeter; there was 1 stillbirth due to intracranial hemorrhage. CONCLUSIONS: Moderate-to-severe fetal thrombocytopenia is a rare event. The only severely affected neonates with morbidity or mortality due to this condition are those born to mothers with antiplatelet alloantibodies.  相似文献

Synthetic 1-deamino-8-D-arginine-vasopressin (DDAVP) is used in the management of diabetes insipidus (DI). We conducted a systematic literature review of DDAVP use during pregnancy, with particular attention to its safety for both mother and infant. Studies were identified through Ovid MEDLINE from 1976 to July 1997 using the combined terms "desmopressin," "DDAVP," and "pregnancy". Review articles and published letters were also explored. One hundred one articles were retrieved, of which 20 met all the inclusion criteria. Included in the 20 articles were 53 cases with the use of DDAVP for the management of DI. The therapeutic daily dose of DDAVP was approximately 29 micrograms intranasally (range 7.5-100 micrograms), with adequate DI control observed. Three of 14 women with sufficient information developed preeclampsia, a nonsignificant difference from the expected rate of 5 percent (the Fisher exact test, 2-P = .08). The mode of delivery was defined for 22 cases, with 16 uneventful vaginal births, and six cesarean delivery. There was no evidence of a drug interaction among the five women who received both DDAVP and intravenous oxytocin. Information was available on 49 live births born to DI mothers on DDAVP. The mean gestational age at delivery was 37.4 weeks (SD 1.3 weeks), with an estimated mean birth weight of 2963.8 gm (range 2000-4420 gm). Forty-three offspring were reported as healthy (event rate 87.8 percent; 95 percent CI 77.2-95.3 percent). Of the remaining six infants, one developed DI at 18 months of age; a second was under 2500 gm at birth, but survived; the third developed hypotonia and failure to thrive at 21 months, two others had Down syndrome; and the sixth died of severe cardiac anomalies. Similar data were seen among the 41 infants whose mothers had used DDAVP throughout pregnancy. In conclusion, DDAVP use during pregnancy seems to be safe for both mother and child. Delivery does not seem to be augmented by its use, nor are there likely any associated adverse neonatal effects. A large database of DDAVP use during pregnancy is needed to confirm these findings.  相似文献

Although physical, psychological, and social problems for children born to women denied abortion have been identified, little attention has been paid to the role that close childspacing might play in contributing to those problems. Small childspacing intervals (less than two years) have been linked to numerous physical, psychological, and social problems for mother and child. Using secondary analysis, this study examines the characteristics of 596 mothers who sought abortions in 1987 by race and age. Nearly 25% of these mothers had at least one child under two years of age. Abortion patients with such young children were more likely to be Black and have low incomes than abortion patients with older children. More than half of the mothers studied had more than two children. The findings suggest that a substantial number of children born to women denied access to abortion would be closely spaced, with the resulting adverse health consequences falling more heavily on subpopulations of abortion patients already at higher risk for negative perinatal and neonatal outcomes.  相似文献

This longitudinal study examined predictors of rates of growth in dyadic interaction quality in children born preterm who did not experience significant neurological findings during neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) hospitalization. Multiple methods were used to collect data from 120 preterm infants (48% girls, 52% boys) and their mothers. Infant heart rate variability (HRV), gestational age, neonatal health, feeding route, and maternal socioeconomic (SES) risks were assessed at NICU discharge (mean of 36 weeks postconception). Mother–child interactions were observed at 4, 9, 16, and 24 months postterm and analyzed with hierarchical linear modeling. On average, children's quality of play, interest, and attention increased over time while their dysregulation and irritability decreased, whereas average maternal positive affect and involvement declined in quality (ps  相似文献

24 women (mean age 24 yrs) who had received ultrasound examinations and psychological interviews during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy were subsequently divided into a group of 12 Ss who had reported pregnancy problems (marital difficulties and ambivalence about the child) and another group of 12 Ss who had not. Ss were then observed at 3–5 mo postpartum in interactions with their infants and were given the Beck Depression Inventory, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Nowicki-Strickland Internal–External Control Scale for Adults, measures of mothers' and infants' temperament, and a maternal developmental expectations and childrearing attitudes scale. The mothers who had experienced pregnancy problems were more depressed, anxious, and externalizing postpartum and expressed more punitive childrearing attitudes. These depressed mothers and their infants showed less optimal interaction behaviors. Results suggest that postpartum depression can be predicted from a simple set of questions regarding the mother's negative feelings about her marriage and her expectant child during the prenatal period. Pre-eclampsia is pregnancy induced hypertension of unknown aetiology. There is a paucity of maternal data on the disease from this region and this study was undertaken to identify maternal and possible aetiologic factors associated with the disease in the north western region of Saudi Arabia. Seven hundred and five consecutive maternities which delivered from October 1990 till January 1991 at the Armed Forces Hospital were analysed. 2.8% of women in this community study developed pre-eclampsia. Women at extremes of maternal age, the nulliparous and high parity women; women with high body mass index, blood group O and those with no antenatal care or late booking in this study were at greater risk of developing pre-eclampsia when compared with controls who delivered in the same period. Of the babies born to mothers with pre-eclampsia, 46.7% were of low birthweight (< 2500g) while only 10.4% of controls were low birthweight. It is concluded that mothers with pre-eclampsia have to be identified early. Potential modifiable factors include reducing pregnancies at extremes of maternal age, among high parity women and encouraging early booking as well as regular attendance at the antenatal clinic.  相似文献

Neonatal group B streptococcal infection is the primary cause of neonatal morbidity related to infection. It can often be prevented by identifying and treating pregnant women who carry group B streptococci or who are at highest risk of transmitting the bacteria to newborns. Increasing evidence and expert opinion support intrapartum treatment of women at relatively high risk of delivering an infant with group B streptococcal infection. Such women can be identified through the use of an anogenital culture for group B streptococci obtained at 35 to 37 weeks of gestation and by the presence of at least one of many risk factors associated with neonatal infection. These risk factors include preterm labor or rupture of the membranes at less than 37 weeks of gestation, previous delivery of an infant with invasive group B streptococcal disease, group B streptococcal bacteriuria during the present pregnancy, maternal intrapartum fever of 38 degrees C (100.4 degrees F) or higher and rupture of the fetal membranes for 18 hours or more. The recommended agent for intrapartum chemoprophylaxis is intravenous penicillin G; clindamycin is used in penicillin-allergic women. The use of risk markers alone to guide the administration of intrapartum antibiotics is much more cost-effective than other preventive strategies, but it exposes more women and infants to antibiotic-associated risks. Management of the infants of treated mothers is empiric and is currently guided by expert opinion.  相似文献

Diphtheria antitoxin was determined in serum from 44 pregnant women, of whom 26 had received one injection of diphtheria toxoid during pregnancy. Their infants were vaccinated with a combined diphtheria-tetanus vaccine at 3, 5 and 12 months of age. This vaccination schedule has been used in Sweden since 1986, replacing the old schedule of vaccination at 3, 4.5 and 6 months of age originally designed for diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, which had not been used after cessation of general vaccination against pertussis in 1979. Serum samples from the infants were obtained at 3, 7 and 18 months of age. After 2 injections infants of mothers with high antitoxin titers, > or = 0.1 IU/ml, tended to have lower antitoxin titers than infants of mothers with low antitoxin concentrations (P = 0.067). All children had, however, antitoxin above the minimum protective level of 0.01 IU/ml. Median antitoxin titers were 1.6 IU/ml in both groups after the third booster injection. Four infants of mothers who had been vaccinated during pregnancy and who had titers of > or = 0.4 IU/ml did not reach the 0.1 IU/ml level after 2 injections: all 4 responded with high antitoxin titers after the third dose. Thus all infants were primed by 2 doses of vaccine, irrespective of maternal antibody concentration. The repressive effect of maternal antibody on titers noted after 2 doses was no longer observed after the third, booster dose.  相似文献

The data of a study conducted in 1966 of 120 children born to women denied abortion were reexamined. Forssman and Thuwe compared 120 children born to women denied abortions in Sweden and 120 controls on a number of variables on which, with but 1 exception, the group of children born to the mothers denied abortion compared unfavorably to the control group. If the control group had been equivalent in major respects to the group denied abortion, these comparisons would lead to the Forssman and Thuwe conclusion that the prospective child runs the risk of having to surmount greater social and mental handicaps than his/her peers. But the groups differed on 2 important dimensions: the group denied abortion was of lower socioeconomic status than the controls; and the mothers more frequently sought psychiatric assistances. Such differeances appear to account for the differences in social outcome for the progeny of the 2 groups. Post hoc comparisons indicate that the mothers denied abortion had lower status than the general population but did not have a lower occupational status than the control mothers. Of progeny of the women denied abortion, 66% (versus 28% of the control progeny) met a least 1 of the criteria of what Forssman and Thuwe termed "circumstances pointing to an insecure childhood." These circumstances included: report to children's aid bureaus about unsatisfactory conditions at home; child removed from home by authorities; placement in foster home; placement in children's home; parents divorced before child was 15; parent(s) died before child was 15; and born out of wedlock and never legitimized. 48% of the mothers who were denied abortion and who maintained residence in Goteborg had sought psychiatric assistance at municipal facilities after denial of the abortion versus 16% of the control mothers. 10 of the progeny of women denied abortions and none of the controls' progeny visited municipal psychiatric centers. Of the 7 "circumstances pointing to an insecure childhood," the first 4 circumstances were most likely affected by the more frequent psychiatric consultation at municipal facilities of the mothers denied abortion. Forssman and Thuwe's occupational Group 3 includes practically all of the nonprofessional members of the working class ranging from skilled to semiskilled to unskilled to unemployed to unemployable workers. If Group 3 had been partitioned by kind of nonprofessional, the group denied abortion would almost certainly have disproportionately occupied the lower categories than the control group.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To study the incidence of chronic oxygen dependency (COD) among ventilated survivors born at 24-32 weeks gestation from 1986 to 1994 and to identify antenatal and neonatal factors that may have changed with time; and to identify antenatal and neonatal factors that could contribute to the development of COD in infants born at 24-32 weeks gestation using a case control model. METHODOLOGY: Infants born at 24-32 weeks gestation in one tertiary referral centre between 1986 and 1994 and admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit for respiratory support were studied. Data accumulated prospectively since 1986 in survivors of ventilation were analyzed to identify antenatal and neonatal factors that could have changed with time. The cohort of infants who developed COD were matched for gestation and time of birth with a control group of infants who did not have COD. Significant factors that could have contributed to the development of COD were identified using forward logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: The number of mothers admitted for threatened premature labour (TPL), and pregnancy induced hypertension decreased with time while the use of antenatal steroids and maternal antibiotics increased. More infants were delivered by Caesarean section during the later years. There was an increase in neonatal septicaemia with time while there were decreases in hyaline membrane disease, pneumothorax, pulmonary interstitial emphysema, use of high peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) and high inspired oxygen. The incidence of COD decreased. The case controlled study revealed a significant positive association between COD and male gender, birthweight less than the 10th percentile for gestation, PIP over 30 cm H2O, septicaemia and significant patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) requiring indomethacin. There was a negative association with TPL. CONCLUSIONS: Further decrease in COD can be achieved only if septicaemia, PDA and the use of high PIP can be avoided. The most effective way of reducing the incidence of COD is by reducing the incidence of prematurity.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION: Infants of mothers who smoke have reduced respiratory function and are more likely to develop wheezing. Little evidence is available on the effect of in-utero cigarette-smoke exposure as opposed to postnatal exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. We used a previously validated non-invasive method to measure the time to peak tidal expiratory flow (tPTEF) as a proportion of expiratory time (tE) in newborn infants soon after birth to examine the effects of a family history of asthma and in-utero cigarette-smoke exposure on the infants' respiratory function. METHODS: We collected respiratory-function data from 500 healthy infants of mothers taking part in the Western Australia Pregnancy Cohort Study. During behaviourally defined quiet sleep, measurements were obtained a median of 58 h (range 26-159) after the infants were born. We used uncalibrated inductance plethysmography. The uncalibrated volume signal was differentiated to flow and used to calculate respiratory rate, total inspiratory time, tE, and tPTEF. Mothers answered questionnaires on demographic, medical, and pregnancy characteristics, including smoking history. Serum cotinine measurements were available to validate self-reported smoking history in a subset of mothers (238). RESULTS: Data suitable for analysis were obtained from 461 infants. In multivariate regression analysis, lower values of tPTEF/tE were independently associated with respiratory rate (beta coefficient per 10 breaths/min 0.018 [SE 0.005], p < 0.01), age (beta coefficient per 10 h -0.008 [0.003], p < 0.01), maternal smoking during pregnancy (> 10 cigarettes daily; beta coefficient -0.049 [0.022], p < 0.05), maternal hypertension during pregnancy (-0.037 [0.015], p < 0.02), and a family history of asthma (-0.028[0.014], p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In-utero smoke exposure, a family history of asthma, and maternal hypertension during pregnancy are associated with reduced respiratory function after birth. We speculate that these factors adversely affect lung development in utero.  相似文献

We recruited 111 patients who were considered to be at significantly increased risk of preeclampsia on the basis of previous obstetric history or preexisting medical disorders. All patients were treated with low dose aspirin (75 mg/day) from the first occasion the patient attended the antenatal clinic, regardless of gestational age. If the maternal mean platelet volume (MPV) increased significantly (by > 0.8 fl) from the baseline, antiplatelet treatment was increased. Five pregnancies were lost during the second trimester and 106 of the treated patients had live infants. The incidence of neonatal death (3/106 infants) was much lower than in the previous pregnancies in these patients (32/134 infants). Patients who were treated from the first trimester of pregnancy (group A, 89 patients) did substantially better than those treated from the second trimester (group B, 17 patients) as assessed by the incidence of pre-eclampsia or intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), gestational age and birthweight at delivery. These data suggest that longitudinal monitoring of the MPV may identify the women who could benefit from increased antiplatelet treatment, and that antiplatelet treatment may be more effective when initiated in the first trimester rather than later in pregnancy.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine rates of suicide associated with pregnancy by the type of pregnancy. DESIGN: Register linkage study. Information on suicides in women of reproductive age was linked with the Finnish birth, abortion, and hospital discharge registers to find out how many women who committed suicide had had a completed pregnancy during her last year of life. SETTING: Nationwide data from Finland. SUBJECTS: Women who committed suicide in 1987-94. RESULTS: There were 73 suicides associated with pregnancy, representing 5.4% of all suicides in women in this age group. The mean annual suicide rate was 11.3 per 100,000. The suicide rate associated with birth was significantly lower (5.9) and the rates associated with miscarriage (18.1) and induced abortion (34.7) were significantly higher than in the population. The risk associated with birth was higher among teenagers and that associated with abortion was increased in all age groups. Women who had committed a suicide tended to come from lower social classes and were more likely to be unmarried than other women who had had a completed pregnancy. CONCLUSIONS: The increased risk of suicide after an induced abortion indicates either common risk factors for both or harmful effects of induced abortion on mental health.  相似文献
