The output spectra of an A+ laser in its λ 4879.90 Å transition has been observed at various levels above threshold, in a ring resonator, a two-mirror resonator of the same longitudinal mode spacing (107 Mc/s), and another two-mirror resonator of about three times that mode spacing. Oscillations were restricted to the fundamental (Gaussian) mode. The A+ laser spectra display three novel features, hitherto unobserved in the oscillation spectra of neutral-gas lasers [17], which appear to stem, at least in part, from its large natural line width: 1) At moderate levels above threshold, the spectra are extraordinarily stable, and usually characterized by gaps of many mode spacings between oscillations. 2) Above a critical level, oscillations occur in random sequence at all resonances, with violent amplitude fluctuations at each frequency. 3) The time-average envelope of the unstable "multimode" oscillations exhibits three well-defined maxima, which give way to a single maximum at a higher excitation level. The line shift of the laser transition has been measured to within about 10 percent, by comparing oscillation frequencies at the center of symmetrical spectra in the two counter-circulating waves of the ring laser.  相似文献

Single-frequency oscillation has been obtained from an Ar laser of increased power level with the help of a three-mirror Smith reflector (power in the 4880-Å line was 2 watts). Equations and plots that permit the choice of optimum parameters of the three-mirror reflector are given. It is shown that for effective frequency selection in a high-power laser of great length it is necessary to use beam splitter reflectivities exceeding 0.5. Single-frequency lasers of this type may be used in holography.  相似文献

The output power of an erbium-doped fiber ring laser has been measured as a function of pump power, emission wavelength, doped-fiber length, and reflectivity of the output coupler. A theoretical model for the calculation of the output power is introduced that is based on a previously derived gain equation for erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. The calculated values are in good agreement with the experimental data, confirming the applicability of the theory to a reliable modeling of the output power of erbium fiber ring lasers  相似文献

基于端面泵浦掺镱双包层光纤激光器的速率方程,应用MATLAB语言编程,分别数值模拟了功率为60瓦前端泵浦、后端泵浦和双端都为30瓦泵浦时掺镱双包层光纤激光器对应的功率输出特性和粒子数密度值特性,增大不同端面输入功率观察输出功率特性,研究得到后端泵浦上能级粒子数分布平坦,输出功率较大,为50.4705瓦。并且增大输入功率时得到双端泵浦输出功率较大。研究结论为提高掺镱双包层光纤激光器功率输出提供理论和实验参考。  相似文献

Experiments on the pulsed mercury-helium laser have revealed a new line at 7418 Å. The laser was examined specifically with regard to operation at 7945 Å, and it was found that the optimum He pressure is 30 torr. We have built a single-frequency argon ion ring laser using a coupled-cavity mode selector. Utilizing the gain asymmetry caused by the drift velocity imparted to the argon ions by the dc field used to excite the discharge, we have obtained a narrow discriminant centered on the argon laser line. This discriminant could be used to stabilize the laser to the center of the atomic line. We have measured discriminant widths of less than 200 MHz for the argon 4880-Å resonance line. The sensitivity of this discriminant is compared with other laser stabilization systems described in the literature, and it is shown that our system appears to be the most sensitive of the systems currently available for stabilizing the argon ion laser.  相似文献

Output power saturation of BH lasers under high current operation is analysed and it is concluded that such saturation is due to increase of leakage current through the burying layers. The problems associated with the construction of continuous-duty dc excited ion lasers are indicated. Two solutions to the thermal dissipation and ion bombardment problem which have been experimentally tested and appear promising are described. These involve the use of axial magnetic fields with high current, low pressure, constricted arcs in large bore tubing and the use of metal-walled discharge vessels. The influence of an axial magnetic field on the properties of an ion laser is discussed, and the optical power levels which have been obtained are given.  相似文献
