In this paper, we analyze the two-machine flowshop problem with the makespan minimization and the learning effect, which computational complexity was not determined yet. First, we show that an optimal solution of this problem does not have to be the ‘permutation’ schedule if the learning effect is taken into consideration. Furthermore, it is proved that the permutation and non-permutation versions of this problem are NP-hard even if the learning effect, in a form of a step learning curve, characterizes only one machine. However, if both machines have learning ability and the learning curves are stepwise then the permutation version of this problem is strongly NP-hard. Furthermore, we prove the makespan minimization problem in m-machine permutation proportional flowshop environment remains polynomially solvable with identical job processing times on each machine even if they are described by arbitrary functions (learning curves) dependent on a job position in a sequence. Finally, approximation algorithms for the general problem are proposed and analyzed. 相似文献

In this paper, we apply a genetic algorithm to flowshop scheduling problems and examine two hybridizations of the genetic algorithm with other search algorithms. First we examine various genetic operators to design a genetic algorithm for the flowshop scheduling problem with an objective of minimizing the makespan. By computer simulations, we show that the two-point crossover and the shift change mutation are effective for this problem. Next we compare the genetic algorithm with other search algorithms such as local search, taboo search and simulated annealing. Computer simulations show that the genetic algorithm is a bit inferior to the others. In order to improve the performance of the genetic algorithm, we examine the hybridization of the genetic algorithms. We show two hybrid genetic algorithms: genetic local search and genetic simulated annealing. Their high performance is demonstrated by computer simulations. 相似文献

In this paper, we focus on the design of an exact exponential time algorithm with a proved worst-case running time for 3-machine flowshop scheduling problems considering worst-case scenarios. For the minimization of the makespan criterion, a Dynamic Programming algorithm running in \({\mathcal {O}}^*(3^n)\) is proposed, which improves the current best-known time complexity \(2^{{\mathcal {O}}(n)}\times \Vert I\Vert ^{{\mathcal {O}}(1)}\) in the literature. The idea is based on a dominance condition and the consideration of the Pareto Front in the criteria space. The algorithm can be easily generalized to other problems that have similar structures. The generalization on two problems, namely the \(F3\Vert f_\mathrm{max}\) and \(F3\Vert \sum f_i\) problems, is discussed. 相似文献

Learning effects in scheduling problems have received growing attention recently. Biskup [Biskup, D. (2008). A state-of-the-art review on scheduling with learning effect. European Journal of Operational Research, 188, 315–329] classified the learning effect scheduling models into two diverse approaches. The position-based learning model seems to be a realistic assumption for the case that the actual processing of the job is mainly machine driven, while the sum-of-processing-time-based learning model takes into account the experience the workers gain from producing the jobs. In this paper, we propose a learning model which considers both the machine and human learning effects simultaneously. We first show that the position-based learning and the sum-of-processing-time-based learning models in the literature are special cases of the proposed model. In many realistic situations, the more time you practice, the better learning effect you obtain. Thus, we propose a time-dependent learning effect and introduce it into the single-machine group scheduling problems. The paper addresses the problem of flowshop scheduling in order to minimize the makespan objective. Three probabilistic hybrid heuristics are presented for solving permutation flowshop scheduling problem. The proposed methodology combines elements from both constructive heuristic search and a stochastic improvement technique. The stochastic method used in this paper is simulated annealing (SA). Experiments have been run on a large number of randomly generated test problems of varying jobs and machine sizes. Our approach is shown to outperform best-known existing heuristics, including the classical NEH technique (OMEGA, 1983) and the SA based on (OMEGA, 1989) of Osman and Potts . Statistical tests of significance are performed to substantiate the claims of improvement. 相似文献

This paper develops a set of new simple constructive heuristic algorithms to minimize total flow-time for an -jobs×-machines permutation flowshop scheduling problem. We first propose a new iterative algorithm based on the best existing simple heuristic algorithm, and then integrate new indicator variables for weighting jobs into this algorithm. We also propose new decision criteria to select the best partial sequence in each iteration of our algorithm. A comprehensive numerical experiment reveals that our modifications and extensions improve the effectiveness of the best existing simple heuristic without affecting its computational efficiency. 相似文献

In scheduling problems with learning effects, most of the research is based on specific learning functions. In this paper, we develop a general model with learning effects where the actual processing time of a job is not only a function of the total normal processing times of the jobs already processed, but also a function of the job’s scheduled position. In particular, it is shown that some single machine scheduling problems and m-machine permutation flowshop problems are still polynomially solvable under the proposed model. Scheduling with learning effect has drawn many researchers’ attention since Biskup [D. Biskup, Single-machine scheduling with learning considerations, European Journal of Opterational Research 115 (1999) 173-178] introduced the concept of learning into the scheduling field. Biskup [D. Biskup, A state-of-the-art review on scheduling with learning effect, European Journal of Opterational Research 188 (2008) 315-329] classified the learning approaches in the literature into two main streams. He claimed that the position-based learning seems to be a realistic model for machine learning, while the sum-of-processing-time-based learning is a model for human learning. In some realistic situations, both the machine and human learning might exist simultaneously. For example, robots with neural networks are used in computers, motor vehicles, and many assembly lines. The actions of a robot are constantly modified through self-learning in processing the jobs. On the other hand, the operators in the control center learn how to give the commands efficiently through working experience. In this paper, we propose a new learning model that unifies the two main approaches. We show that some single-machine problems and some specified flowshop problems are polynomially solvable. 相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of preemptive scheduling in a two-stage flowshop with parallel unrelated machines at the first stage and a single machine at the second stage. At the first stage, jobs use some additional resources which are available in limited quantities at any time. The resource requirements are of 0–1 type. The objective is the minimization of makespan. The problem is NP-hard. Heuristic algorithms are proposed which solve to optimality the resource constrained scheduling problem at the first stage of the flowshop, and at the same time, minimize the makespan in the flowshop by selecting appropriate jobs for simultaneous processing. Several rules of job selection are considered. The performance of the proposed heuristic algorithms is analyzed by comparing solutions with the lower bound on the optimal makespan. The extensive computational experiment shows that the proposed heuristic algorithms are able to produce near-optimal solutions in short computational time. 相似文献

Scheduling with learning effects has received growing attention nowadays. A well-known learning model is called “sum-of processing-times-based learning” in which the actual processing time of a job is a non-increasing function of the jobs already processed. However, the actual processing time of a given job drops to zero precipitously when the normal job processing times are large. Motivated by this observation, we propose a truncation learning model where the actual job processing time is a function which depends not only on the processing times of the jobs already processed but also on a control parameter. The use of the truncated function is to model the phenomenon that the learning of a human activity is limited. Under the proposed learning model, we show that some single-machine scheduling problems can be solved in polynomial time. In addition, we further provide the worst-case error bounds for the problems to minimize the maximum lateness and total weighted completion time. 相似文献

This paper investigates the hybrid flowshop scheduling with finite intermediate buffers, whose objective is to minimize the sum of weighted completion time of all jobs. Since this problem is very complex and has been proven strongly NP-hard, a tabu search heuristic is proposed. In this heuristic there are two main features. One is that a scatter search mechanism is incorporated to improve the diversity of the search procedure. And the other is that a permutation of N jobs representing their processing order in the first stage instead of a complex complete schedule is used to denote a solution. Computational experiments on randomly generated instances with different structures show that the proposed tabu search heuristic can provide good solutions compared to both the lower bounds and the algorithm proposed for this problem in a lately published literature. 相似文献

The deteriorating job scheduling problems have received increasing attention recently. However, most researchers assume that the actual job processing time is a linear function of its starting time. In fact, in some situations, the deterioration rate might increase or decrease as time passes. For example, the temperature of the ingot in the rolling machine might drop at a slower pace as the surface cools down. Thus, the drop of the ingot temperature might have a decreasing rate. On the other hand, the time to control a fire might go dramatically as time passes, and the time to cease a fire might have an increasing rate. In this paper, we propose a new deteriorating model where the deterioration rate might be increasing or decreasing as time passes. In this paper, we consider a flowshop scheduling problem with a special blocking RCb (Release when Completing Blocking). This flexible production system is prevalent in some industrial environments. Genetic algorithms are first proposed for solving these flowshop problems and different initial populations have been tested to find which is best adapted. Then, a method is proposed for further improving genetic algorithm found solutions, which consists in marking out recurrent genes association occurrences in an already genetic algorithm optimized population. This idea directly follows Holland’s first statement about nature observations. Here, proposed idea is that populations well adapted to a problem have an adapted genetic code with common properties. We propose to mark out these properties in available genetic code to further improve genetic algorithm efficiency.
